Our home has a flat roof that was desperately in need of attention. The drainage system was poorly designed and water was ponding starting to cause problems indoors. We called M&R after receiving a referral and looking at Homestars reviews. The same evening we had a meeting scheduled with an estimator the next business day and received a detailed quote within 3 days along with inspection photos loaded into a shared document repository for collaboration during the project. We provided the go ahead to commence work and had significant rain delays. Marcin and Mark were responsive and proactive in setting and resetting our expectations as the days went by and we eventually had good weather to start the project. We had a few surprises during the roof teardown which were dealt with swiftly and processionally by Marcin & Mark. The roofing crew, had additional work to and worked diligently from early morning to sunset on a few days to ensure our roof was waterproof prior to the next phase of bad weather. They returned to complete the job when they said they would and in some cases earlier than we had expected. We usually approach new contractors cautiously since we have had some previous experiences that were not favourable. Not the case with M&R. We found their crew friendly, knowledgeable and there was nothing they we asked for that couldn't be done. In short, they were very customer focused and probably the reason they have very good ratings on this service. They took adequate precaution to prevent damage during the construction and attended to all damages without question. During the project they had good ideas for solutions and listened patiently as we worked through our questions (there were many). We now have a roof that gives us piece of mind and will not hesitate recommending them to anyone. Thanks to the M&R team for a great job.

We called Marcin on Thursday at M&R Roofing, after getting a referral from a friend at work. We needed a vent added for our new kitchen Reno for the Microwave vent - and since it needed to go through the attic we needed a roofer. Marcin had me send photos, then he went and picked up the supplies that would match our roof - and his partner Richard came on Saturday morning to finish the job. We are so happy they were able to accommodate us so quickly, and to get it done. Richard also replaced a broken shingle on the roof when he was up installing the new vent. We got five estimates from various roofers before going ahead with M&R. They were the only ones that spent the time actually on our roof to give us a detailed quote. Our roof has a very steep slope and had previously been redone very poorly (three layers of shingles layered on top of each other). The crew showed up right on time each morning (took about three and a half days given the amount of work and the sweltering August heat). The crew was incredibly professional, very thorough and polite. We had all of the old cedar and asphalt shingles removed and replaced and new eaves trough put in. Very satisfied with the work. Would highly recommend them.

I'm so pleased to have chosen M&R. They are efficient, honest, reliable and hard-working! Mark came by promptly to give me a very reasonable quote and was quick to respond to any questions/concerns that I had. Marcin & his crew of four shingled both my garage and house roofs in one day! He made sure everything was done properly & safely, with safety signage in place to warn pedestrians. Marcin provided guidance and supervision to his crew during and towards the completion of the job, to ensure the job was done to spec. They did leave quite a few roofing nails behind in the garage eaves troughs though, so that was the only negative point for this job. Any minor details that could not be completed that day was completed the next day. They did a professional installation, cleaned up my property thoroughly, and worked efficiently, which made me a very happy customer. A technician from Gates' Animal Control saw the roof and remarked at how nicely the job had been done (he was there to deal with a wildlife issue). The technician has seen a lot of roofs in his line of work and knows what good and bad roofing jobs are like. He was impressed and stated that he would spread the word to anyone who needs a new roof. I got an email from Emmanuel shorty after and he arranged for his guys to come over pretty fast and on the exact day we agreed upon. Emmanuel even upgraded me to better shingles after the contract was signed using lower quality. Overall I would recommend M&R. They resonded promptly, were able to arrange work fast, and were very professional.

After the insane wind storm in the GTA, I scrambled to find a reputable roofing company that could complete emergency repairs. My roof sustained damage on one side and had a gaping hole as one of the vents had been ripped off along with several shingles. It was forecasted to rain in the upcoming days and I was terrified of adding water damage to my list of problems. I called around and got quotes ranging from $1000 to $6000(!) for a 1-2 hour job. M&R Roofing was recommended to me by an associate at Home Depot and I visited their office minutes before they closed. I brought a sample of my shingle and the kind gentleman not only went out of his way to find the exact match, but gave them to me for free. I also got a replacement vent. I explained my difficult situation to him and he booked me an appointment for emergency repairs that week despite being very busy. The crew came to my house and did an amazing job! I miscalculated the number of shingles missing, and noticed they had driven back to their office to get more mid-way through the job, but never even mentioned the inconvenience to me. The price was more than reasonable and I truly appreciate Marcin and his crew going out of their way to help me during this difficult time. I feel reassured because they installed underlayment prior to nailing the shingles. Thank you so much! I would 100% recommend M&R to all my friends. :)

We contacted M&R Roofing and a half-dozen others to remove our roof completely, reinsulate our cathedral ceiling, and replace the plywood and shingles. M&R's quote wasn't the lowest, but they were the only ones that completely addressed all our wishes. Their communication was fantastic, as was the photo documentation of the existing roof's problems. The work was completed promptly and to my satisfaction. I would definitely recommend you go with them.

Needed our flat roof completely replaced due to previously done poor job. Got FIVE quotes and M&R were the second highest but had the most comprehensive quote with pictures and details instead of just a carbon copy checklist with scribbles. Gave a strict deadline and despite weather had the job completed before the drop dead date. Consultant was friendly and answered all my email and phone questions. Very happy with the work done and hopefully will stand up the test of winter and time. Foreman was great and informative, crew was fast and respectful of my property. Here's where things went wrong: 1) discovered that despite their website stating so they do NOT accept credit card, which we would have preferred but conceded to pay by cheque; 2) discovered first mistaken change on the invoice that differed from the contract where they installed a lower thickness of insulation while charged me for the higher thickness I originally requested. When I discovered this error their consolation was to only charge me for what I got done but no amends were offered since the job was done wrong and was too late to rectify; 3) second change on invoice was to pay upon receipt while contract stated to pay within 30 days of completion. You can't legally change payment terms after the fact and when I informed their accounting person they ignored the discrepancy and demanded to be paid immediately; 4) when I mentioned the previous mistakes to the consultant and accounting person and asked for amends, the owner personally called me to let me know his company is too busy, mistakes happen (where they would have overcharged me should I not have reviewed the invoice), and is annoyed at doing residential work and would prefer to work commercial, can't find enough good people to work roofs, and have been turning down referrals all summer long. Sounded like he didn't even want my business or a referral. If you need quality work done in a timely manner for a decent enough price, albeit they were more expensive but work is higher quality as I saw my neighbours' roofs, go with M&R, just mind the details of the contract, the invoice, and have the cash on hand in your account to pay them.

M&R replaced the shingles on our house with a new asphalt roof. They did an excellent job! The evaluation and explanation of alternatives, the quote, and the patience in answering numerous questions before the work commenced was all done flawlessly. On the scheduled day the crew came on time, worked hard, were polite, covered up the ground around the house and windows, and cleaned up at the end of each day. During the installation they answered all our questions. We especially appreciated that the quotes and all written material were provided via e-mail, and that phone calls were answered promptly. My partner and I have been restoring a 130 year old Victorian in Toronto's South Annex for the past four years and we ran into our share of good and bad contractors along the way; thankfully we found a superb roofing company that went above and beyond our expectations. My partner and I met with half a dozen companies before deciding to go with Marcin at M&R Roofing. Marcin was the only contractor to physically go up onto our roof and inspect what needed to be done when he came out for the initial meeting. He spent a good amount of time helping us decide what was the best approach to construct a new front roof on our home. The quote he provided us was detailed, thorough, and like no other we have ever seen in the industry. If contractors provided quotes half as good as M&R, we would all be in a lot better shape. Upon installation, his staff were friendly and very knowledgable. The work they did was truly outstanding. Marcin helped us find the right materials, helped us match the colours of both the metal roof and eaves/downspouts, and worked closely with us and Toronto Heritage Preservation Services to design something that worked well with the aesthetic of the home. We had requested some minor adjustments after the majority of work was completed. M&R had one of their most experienced guys sent out right away to meet me at the home and adjust a few small details. M&R followed up with my partner and I to make sure we were 100% satisfied with the entire job. Suffice to say, we are very pleased with the work and service from this company! Marcin is quick to respond to emails and phone calls and takes his time with clients to ensure everything gets addressed. M&R sent us photos of the completed work in the end. You know a company has an investment in their work when they send someone out to photograph it in the end. Needed shingle replacement on my rental property so I sought out a few estimates to get a feel for the differences in the market place. M&R were priced on the higher end of the spectrum but also offered a bit more. One of the quotes was less than half the price but nothing is in writing and they want cash. Can't trust that. What swayed my decision finally was the amount of detail in their written quote which far surpassed the others. One recommendation to improve it even better is to add line items to show exactly how they arrive at the quoted price. In other words, how much will the shingles cost, the nails, the vents, the labor, etc. That would provide complete transparency. When the job was finally completed, some minor disagreements aside, the workmanship was top notch. They took pictures, before and after completion, and provided them to me. The site was spotless- not a wayward shingle or roofing paper to be found. I would certainly recommend them. At minimum, get them in to quote. Franc

Having used this company before to replace both our own roof as well as that of a rental property we expected great things. Unfortunately this time, they broke our fence while delivering materials, did not complete the work and left a bunch of their supplies in our backyard, including a used propane tank. Wish I could do NO stars. Company has disconnected its phone line and does not return email. Unfortunate and very deceitful in how they dealt with us.

I contacted M&R Roofing due to a roof leak into a room that is a single storey addition to the house. The leak was at the point where the addition meets the 2 storey house and only occurred when there was heavy rain hitting the house at a particular angle. After describing the problem to the owner of M&R, he indicated the roofing job was not done properly and that a new roof was in order to address the problem. I told him that the problem seemed to be with the flashing or near the join but he said the new roof was the way to go even though the roof was less than ten years old. To my knowledge he did no testing such as a water test that would have uncovered the problem. In November, 2013 a new roof was installed one day when the owner indicated it was too windy for his crew to work at a job that required climbing to a higher roof. There was a guarantee for the shingles provided. We never had a leak during any previous winter and there was no leak during the winter of 2014 but in June, after a heavy downpour, my tenant informed me that the roof is leaking again. I contacted M&R and the owner indicated that there's no way the roof would have withstood the winter if it is faulty. I then contacted a reputable roofer who did a water test and found the leak immediately - around the window on the second storey. He installed a water barrier under the siding and sealed the window etc. Our water tests and subsequent heavy rains indicate the leak problem is finally resolved. When I spoke to the brother who did the roofing job, he said that these older homes have no water sealing under the siding and, sure, water could go behind the siding and under his roof. I am extremely annoyed over this entire experience as I contacted this roofer to stop the leak and ended up with a new roof that cost me over $2000 while the leak remained. It's obvious from the point of entry etc. that the leak was always behind the window. Based on recent conversation, this roofer certainly understood the issues that could cause a leak and I did consult him as a roofing professional to address the leak, even asking whether these leaks were among the jobs he did. Instead of investigating and applying common sense and the knowledge he was commending himself on to the problem, he immediately proceeded to recommend something I did not need. Furthermore, I found him then and now too self assured and boastful. If you commend yourself as an expert, you should know if your services are what will solve the problem, when to refer elsewhere and when to decline a job. M&R told me to get another roofer to send a photo and report re the problem with the job and, if this is correct, the roofer will be paid $100 but if incorrect, the other roofer must pay them $100. The roofer who did the siding etc, (he does both - a complete high quality service) indicated that he does not have time for this and the problem was not the roof M&R installed other than some flashing near the join to the neighbour's that could have been extended. However, I'm pleased that the roofer took the time to uncover and repair the real problem.

I chose M&R roofing to solve a big problem on a flat roof that had been an ongoing leaking roof problem for many years.They suggested a presloped insulated roof system and after this being installed has solved the problem now.Their workers were neat and worked in very hot conditions as well. the site was cleaned up daily.M&R is a very professional firm.their work is excellent and i would recommend them to anyone needing a roof,they do it all,very plesed with the workmanship.I have recommended them to another friend who has now had his roof done similarly and he is also pleased with the workmanship.

Towards the end of 2015 I bought a commercial property in cottage country (Bobcaygeon). I'm from Toronto but jumped on a good opportunity to get a rental property where I have my cottage. The property was vacant for over 3 years so the roof was in poor condition and developed a leak. I got quotes from a few different local roofers however none of them provided me with a sense of comfort (that's cottage country contractors for you!). I knew of M&R as they are based near my Toronto home and have seen their vans throughout the city so I decided to get in touch with them. Although M&R's quote was not the cheapest it was quite competitive, but what I was most impressed with was Marcin's highly detailed and informative quote and explanations. This gave me the comfort I wanted as I knew exactly what I was going to get upfront. The best part was they were willing to come to Bobcaygeon to help me out. I do believe you get what you pay for and cheapening out on a roof is not a wise move (especially with harsh winters in cottage country). M&R showed up when they said and the job took 4 days overall, one day longer then expected but to me that meant they did not rush (the guys came back on the Friday to handle finishing touches). I really appreciate Peter's (metal worker) job as he took his time working some intricate details - the metal work and flashing throughout and new eaves trough system look spectacular. I appreciate that Mark called me immediately to discuss a potential issue after the old roof was torn off and offered up solutions. Jordan and the rest of the crew (forgot their names) did a great job keeping the site clean and worked quickly and efficiently. Yes, I checked up on them regularly and they were always working. They even replaced an old chimney stack/hot pipe without me even asking for it so that was a nice surprise. Overall, the job went smoothly without any issues and the new roof not only looks fantastic, but the leak is gone and it is warmer inside partly because of the extra insulation added. The way my roof ties into the neighbour's roof required a lot of detail-oriented work and finesse which the guys executed well. I do not hesitate to recommend M&R and thank you for the great work and coming up to Bobcaygeon!

Hired them for two services. The first was to address a leak from a flat roof balcony. The second was for a leak through a fan in the bathroom. The flat roof balcony was diagnosed to have needed a replacement of the roof under the balcony. We had them replace the roof and lift it on Styrofoam. The roofers did the job within a week. During the process, they hit a neighbour's tree which prompted the neighbour to complain. As well, they put down pink Styrofoam on the roof but this pink Styrofoam was still visible as they didn't put all of the wood back on the balcony deck. When I asked them to finish this, there was no issue with it. The roofer came back as soon as he could to cover up the Styrofoam. Unfortunately, after the roof and deck were replaced, it still leaked. I called M&R again who said the issue was with the doors and windows and not the roof. So I had the doors and windows replaced. It still leaked. When I called the roofers again, they said that it was the doors and windows (not the roof), when I called the doors and windows guys, they blamed it on the roof. It was very frustrating. M&R came and tore up my ceiling to see if they can assess the leak from inside. It was finally determined that the leak was due to the roofer failing to caulk several drill holes in the outside of the wall where the balcony railings were drilled in. There were 4 gaping holes left totally open. I asked them to caulk the holes. They said they would but nobody came so I eventually had to get a neighbour to do it for me. At the end of the day, there is no more leak, but the process was very frustrating and difficult. I'm not sure if there is no more leak because of M&R roofing or because the windows and doors were replaced. I do think that M&R failed to complete the job of caulking the holes in the wall which caused a lot of additional leaking. The second smaller job they did for me was good and there is no leaking anymore at that spot. The company are friendly and easy to deal with but I'm not sure if they actually fixed the problem (as it may have been the doors/windows that caused the leak and not the roof) but I do believe they caused some additional leak and damage.

M&R distinguished themselves by offering amazing customer service. They demonstrated their knowledge of the trade, clearly documented what the problem was and how they intended to fix it, and accommodated for my payment schedule. The job was done in time and within budget, except for a minor unexpected detail but they took care of it in a professional way. Our roof is now completely sealed and the house feels a lot better with the added insulation.

M&R did a great job on replacing two flat roofs and deck. Very professional work, good value and they came and talked us through every part of the job, including some unexpected problems along the way. Best of all, they definitely went the extra mile when we still had a leak after they had replaced one of the roofs, even though it wasn't their fault. They ended up taking out our glass door and re-installing it with a roofing material extended to go underneath it since it was the door that was leaking, not the roof. So basically a whole day extra spent here with a team of guys after they thought they had finished just so we could be sure of no leaks. The only downside is they are super busy so they are not always easy to get hold of, but that's not unusual with roofing companies and M&R will always get back to you eventually. I would definitely recommend.

I checked initially for quotes and the price offered was quite good. The work was scheduled to start on what was perhaps the hottest day in the summer and I was surprised that the guys went ahead given the oppressive heat. They worked a full day and were very careful taking off the old shingles so as not to damage my foundation planting at the front of the house and my veggie patch close to the back of the house. The guys worked consistently for the 2 days and did a nice job. The roof looks great! Would definitely recommend this company.

Came out same day after wind storm to put up temporary cover to prevent rain damage. Took some time sort out the details for the actual repair (due to unexpected circumstances out of people's control), but once figured out, they brought the materials and finished the actual repair in a timely manner. They were also able to take a look at another part of the house and were able to repair the flashing. After all of the work was completed, they were great about cleaning up.

M&R was great from start to finish. A very pleasant initial chat with Marcin (one of the owners) gave me confidence in the Company. Then Mark came over to inspect the roof and provide us with an estimate. He was on time, extremely professional and very diligent. His report which came a few days later was very detailed with photos, full list of materials, itemized costs, expected timelines, etc. was amazing. These guys take their work seriously! When work time came, the crew was ontime and very polite and professional. They removed and replaced all our shingles and replaced a leaky flat roof over our front porch. I highly recommend using M&R for roofing needs and you can definitely have a lot of confidence in them.

These people are great. Roofing is a tough job - work up high, lots of debris and mess to get rid of, schedules prone to decimation by bad weather, etc. It's also pretty competitive. I got 3 quotes from well-reviewed companies and chose this one based on reasonable price and their highly professional detailed electronic quote. They were very responsive to my follow-up questions before signing the quote (which you can do electronically). They also agreed to a time window to get my job done and they completed the job in that window, despite having to shuffle a bit in that window due to rain. I have close neighbours and a tiny backyard, in which they had to toss down a huge amount of old roofing (3 layers on both the flat and peaked roof). I was worried a lot of the garden would be destroyed, but only one plant got whacked and it will likely survive! The cleanup crew did a great job - the company uses big trailers which are quickly filled and hauled away. Neighbours were happy. The new roofing looks great. Oh, and the eavestrough was damaged a bit with their heavy ladder leaning against it. Still functional, but cosmetic damage. The company owner came by to have a look and decided to have that section replaced at no cost to us. All in all, very satisfied.

A group of freehold townhome owners got together to reface the existing window dormers on our townhomes. We hired M and R roofing to do the task as they had the most competitive price. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because of their timeframes. We were told the project would start in 4 weeks, and it did not being until 10 weeks later, with no communication between the client unless the client called. The work completed was however, very well done. We are very satisfied. Just work on your timeframes, and it would be 5 stars.

M&R Roofing just completed a flat membrane roof for me and I couldn't be more satisfied. It was tricky work as the roof is used as a terrace and there is considerable outdoor furniture and flower planters that had to be shuffled to enable the work to be done. As well, a number of technical issues arose and M&R explained each situation and provided expert advice. The staff was courteous and the job site was clean at the end of each day. The quoted price was what they billed. All in all, I appreciated their effort and know the roof is now water-tight. I have no hesitation in recommending them for roof work.

Our condo building (MTCC1412) hired M&R Roofing to replace the roof on our three buildings in downtown Toronto. This was an especially challenging assignment because the building is five stories tall, the roofs are sharply peaked, and there is very limited access due to the properties adjacent to the buildings. We tendered the job to a number of roofing companies, all with good credentials from our managing engineering firm. Most declined to response and we received only a handful of bids. Of these, M&R had by far the best price (well below that of all other bids) and a sound plan for getting the work done. The job indeed was very challenging, but was done on time and on budget, and the workmanship was excellent. The crew were very mindful of the property and cleaning up at the end of each work day. The new roof is excellent, and they promised to come back and fix any subsquent problems. They made good on this promise about nine months later when a small leak was found by a skylight - they came the next day and fixed the problem. These guys are great and we would highly recommend them.

The M and R flat roof crew led by Matt worked very hard in the hot sun until after 8:00 pm. They had to rebuild the unsafe roof structure built by my previous contractor. This delayed the job by 1 day and resulted in Matt coming back to complete the parapet installation by himself. He worked very meticulously and did an excellent job. It was obvious that high quality work was more important than cutting a few corners and rushing off to the next job which had been delayed by my job. The roof now has a proper grade, the trusses can easily withstand even high snow loads and the roof looks great. Even the sheet metal contractor who is not related to M and R commented on how well installed and neat the roof looked. M and R are the best roofers I have used in the 30 yrs I have owned this house.

Our roof shingling, previously installed 14 years ago by another company, needed redoing (shingles worn and beginning to curl up at the edges). We had M&R recommended by friends and called them to get an inspection and quote for replacement. They came promptly, did a detailed inspection, and provided photos of the existing problems (though we in fact already knew about these problems, it was good to have a company that shows the details of why the work needed doing). An estimate was then provided within a few days, after actual detailed consideration. We were able to sign the contract electronically (very convenient since we were travelling) and the work was then scheduled quickly, and taking into account other upcoming travel. The crew arrived on time and, even though there were only 2 of them (3 had originally been indicated) they got the job done in close to the originally estimated 8 hours. This even though there was a bit of a hiccup in communicating to the crew that they needed to come with a generator (no external outlet at our house) and hence that they arrived without one and had to call for the generator, delaying their start on the job. When they didn't finish the whole job Friday, they also arrived first thing Saturday morning to get it finished. The cleanup after the job was really excellent, vastly better than our past experiences with other companies. They also provided detailed pictures of the whole finihsed job (11 photos in all), which is very useful since we don't have a ladder tall enough to get up onto the roof to look at it ourselves. Definitely a superior experience to our past experiences with other companies. We've already recommended M&R to other friends who are planning to get their existing roof replaced.

Within the past couple months, M&R completed not one, but two jobs for us: a balcony roof replacement in April and an aluminum fascia trim replacement just this week. We have to thank Marcin and his team for the job well done. They serve their customers with the highest quality of workmanship, and carry out their work with extreme precision, proficiency, and passion. Our balcony roof was badly damaged due to its poor drainage system. Even after light rainfall, the flat roof would pond with water, and in winter, it collected a substantial amount of ice and snow. We approached several contractors to repair our roof, but all were unwilling to do the job, thinking that they would damage the rest of our house. Finally, we were lucky enough to find M&R through Homestars. Unlike other contractors, arrangements were made right away despite the job’s difficulty. Just a few days after first contacting them, Mark gave us a detailed quote, and in just a week, Marcin managed to fit the job into the company’s busy schedule. Marcin’s team redesigned the drainage system, as well as installed a new flat roof, eavestrough, and metal flashing. They even repaired our cracked stucco coping and repainted our balcony. Our balcony is now beautiful and we have not had a problem with water drainage since. Due to the strong winds last weekend, our aluminum fascia trim was blown down from our top roof. Like the first job, arrangements were made immediately, and Ryszard came out to replace it on Monday. The job was extremely dangerous, as there are two stories above our garage, but Ryszard completed the job independently and with confidence. We were so impressed by his bravery. M&R is a great company that we would highly recommend. They are highly skilled and experienced professionals who care about their customers.
