I was laid due to shortage of work with no notice, with more seniority than two other drivers who are still working full-time. I am also not able to contact my i.u.o.e.115 union rep James knowles about the matter at hand. I believe my number is blocked aswell.

There is a reason Chew is still digging holes in Victoria. They're good! Really good!

This company is made up of a great and dynamic group of supportive, fun, respectful people, and I will miss them dearly. As someone who didn't even originally want to work in construction, and didn't know the first thing about it when I started, I was still welcomed with open arms and taught everything I needed to know, judgement free. The dispatcher at Chew has been nothing but kind as well, going so far as to make sure I was comfortable with whatever jobs she gave me to do, and telling me she would be just a call away if I need anything. She always puts others first, going well above and beyond what she ever truly had to do for us. She takes no BS, she just doesn't have time for it, but she will always be in your corner. I felt there was a comfortable work/life balance with Chew, as well as fair distribution of work. Some days were long, that is just the nature of the industry, but doing the 'not so fun' jobs meant you also got to do the 'fun jobs' later on. And even when I had a family emergency come up, I was encouraged to take all the time I needed to deal with it. I've had employers in the past who didn't give a second thought about the personal lives of their workers, but Chew hasn't been one of them. They're still running a business, first and foremost, but they don't forget that they have people working for them, not numbers or drones, and that speaks volumes. If you choose to work here, you really only need to have an open mind for learning (and a good sense of humour) and you will fight right in. Thanks for everything, it's been a wild ride.

Stay away, seriously. This company is about to go under. They have had so many people quit in 2021 they had to give every person a $3 raise. The dispatch is absolutely brutal. The lady who runs it is literally a bully. The hydro department is in shambles. They have a turn over rate of 95%. If you are lucky to get into the civil division you will be good. This company also has some of the most injuries for a civil company in Victoria. The safety lady told us herself. Stay the hell away. These guys want to ruin your life. They don't care if they maim you, or kill you in the process.

Why don't you make it safer for pedestrians while construction is being done on the corner of McKenzie Ave & Shelbourne St? People cannot walk nor push buggies, carts, etc over the stones. Why don't you put boarding over to make a smooth path? This an accident waiting to happen.
