Not a good company to go with. Maybe they are good at doing homes but definitely not condos. What was a simple straight forward renovation project turned out to be a nightmare. They were over budget, they had estimated 2-3 months and it took 6, I was billed an extra $2500 management fee when I did most of the on site managing, the person who did my doors didn't finish the bottoms properly so they all look warped now, the electrical wasn't properly laid out and had to be re-done.. I can go on. The only good thing is Jamie (the manager) was friendly for the most part and lent me a table and chop saw so I could do the flooring myself. Overall they didn't have their stuff together. Maybe that was becuase I wasn't a priority and the houses were. But if the case was they had a high work load then they shouldn't have taken me on in the first place.

Alair Edmonton replaced the roof for our house, it was going to be a tricky job. Alair not only took great care of job at hand with Quality craftsmanship they did the work with such great care that our newly renovated and furnished house wasn't harmed in anyway. They are extremely professional and responsive the quote for the roof was fair too...100% recommended!

Our addition renovation was not without bumps and hiccups but when they were encountered. Alair was responsive to our concerns and did what should be done. With a change in Project Managers at the framing stage, Cory Symes seamlessly stepped in and got things going. The majority of the trades were great and did quality work. Appropriate measures were taken by Alair when Covid 19 hit to ensure that we as well as workers were safe. The end result is an open concept living room/beautiful kitchen, dining area and mudroom that makes me smile every time I walk into the area. Alair completed a major renovation on our home last August, essentially changing everything on our 2 story house. The project was completed on time (to the date we established months prior, which was essential for us), on budget and with quality. Paul and his team, Grant as our Project Manager and Even as a carpenter, are absolutely unreal to work with. I am demanding and specific in my wants and needs and they are always willing to work with me and get me what I want. Another t is open book where nothing is hidden and so simple to get through choosing products, trades, etc. They also have great relationships with trades that seem to get them, and thereby us, very competitive pricing! After extensive research, we eventually chose Alair Homes to manage or home renovation. Jamie Affleck visited our home and from the first interview, we felt reasonably confident that Alair were the best choice in the Edmonton area. We had originally wanted to renovate just our kitchen and master bathroom but Jamie persuaded us that it would be worth considering renovating our whole house at one time. He made several suggestions (non of which our other prospective builders had suggested) that included raising the sunken floor in our family room, replacing, enlarging and moving all the windows at the back of our home, replacing our dated golden oak staircase, removing walls and much more. We had certain reservations; Jamie told us that the renovation would take approximately three to four months but there were no guarantees that it would be completed in that time. Although we didn’t particularly like it, we could understand the argument that unforeseen circumstances might prevent the project from completing on time and on budget. Against Jamie’s advice, we decided to live in our basement while the renovations were carried out. As it turned out, the project did overrun both time and budget but it was through no fault of Alair. On demolition of one of the bathrooms, Alair discovered extensive mold behind the drywall that was caused by the roof that had been poorly installed two years previously. Alair called mold specialists in to remove the mold and then we needed the roof replaced. Because our stucco was damaged by the previous poor roof installation and by moving some windows, as well as stucco repair, we also chose to have our stucco reconditioned with a liquid vinyl product. We fully understood why Jamie advised us not to live in the home while it was being renovated. It was very scary when the demolition contractors came in and demolished the inside of our home in just two or three days. But from then on, things began to get put back together. Within a couple of weeks or so, all our windows had been replaced, boarded up or enlarged. There were a few other unexpected costs; after removal of some of the drywall, it was discovered that a wall couldn’t be easily removed without an engineered steel beam to support the stairs. Alair handled everything extremely well and were always sympathetic to our wishes. We always felt they were working for us and were always ready to have the sub-contractors change something if we weren’t one hundred percent happy. Overall, I think it was good that we lived in our basement during the renovations although I wouldn’t recommend it for the feint of heart. We were able to monitor the progress and ask Alair any questions during the project. One incident worth mentioning is that a few months after the renovations were complete, we started to notice slight delamination in the engineered hardwood floor. It turned out there was a fault in the materials and Alair coordinated with the flooring company to have the manufacturers remove the whole floor, upstairs and downstairs and replace it with a completely new floor at no expense to ourselves even though the new material turned out to be slightly more expensive than our original choice. After the renovation, Alair have been responsive to our needs and have touched up minor defects and damage etc. Of course there were problems and frustrations and if we have any criticism at all, it would be that sub-contractors didn’t always respect work already carried out by other sub-contractors. Overall, we have absolutely no doubt that we made the right decision in choosing Alair to manage our renovation project. We went from a living in a home that was dated and showing definite signs of wear and tear to being a home that we are both proud of and confident in.
