I gave them a call weeks ago in regards to having someone come over and provide me with an estimate for a renovation I wanted to have done to my home. I was told it would take 2-3 business days to have someone call me to schedule an appointment. I thought this was a bit odd, nevertheless, I waited. I had 2 other reputable contractors come over during the same week I called Ackard, and both have provided me with estimates since. Again, it has been weeks and no one from this establishment has given me a call. Ackard has soo many great reviews and it was quite surprising that I have slipped through the cracks of their administration. I acknowledge that this poor review is NOT based on the fact that I hired them or on their workmanship, however, I believe the initial call is just as important (if not more) to a business as the end product. Just as a fyi, the initial call was to remove supporting walls (not a massive job) but has since turned into a job just over 150K which has been awarded to your competitor.

Ackard did a whole house renovation for us in 2019 and we couldn’t have been happier – especially since we’ve been stuck in the house for the past two-years because of COVID! We chose Ackard because of their stellar reputation and they didn’t disappoint. From design to completion, they made the process easy and stress-free. They kept us informed at every stage of construction even when some jobs were delayed for various reasons. There were a couple of minor hiccups along the way (inevitable with major construction), but they were resolved quickly and without any hassle. Before starting our renovation, we’d heard so many horror stories, but choosing Ackard eliminated any apprehensions we had about updating our home. We would highly recommend Ackard to anyone considering a home project.

Ackard Contractors did a full reno/rebuild of our 70+ year old 2 story home and it came with many challenges, some pretty significant. But with Ackard’s superior design and trades team along with their experience in predicting potential issues with older homes they tackled those challenges easily. We recently purchased a (non-Ackard) home and shortly after moving in, discovered pests and other potential problems with the integrity of the build. Knowing Ackard’s reputation, we contacted them for a consultation and were extremely impressed by their service. Richard first spent time on the phone with me, asking (and answering) all sorts of questions to get a better sense of what we were dealing with and then offered to come visit in-person to take a better look. During the in-person consultation, he inspected the problem areas and gave us detailed recommendations for moving forward. After the visit, he and Nicole followed up via email and phone to make sure all of our questions had been answered. Most impressively, ALL of this was free of charge. In my experience, they have gone above and beyond, and I would without a doubt contact them for any kind of consultation or renovation project in the future.

Early this Summer we noticed a leak in our basement and I called Richard, one of the owners of Ackard for his advice. Richard discussed the possible causes with me and sent a crew out to cut some drywall and have a closer look. The quote was reasonable and thorough and the work was done in the time stated. What really impressed me was the care taken to keep the remainder of the basement clean and neat. All workers were respectful our home with plastic laid out on the carpet as well as plastic from the ceiling, keeping most of the dust to the working area. When we arrived back from holidays all the work was very professionally completed. The whole process was totally hands-off for Angela and myself. What a pleasure it was to not have to supervise all the steps along the way. Thank you Richard!

I don't know what kind of rating you give when you request a consultation, they send you an email telling you when they will call you to discuss your project ( like an appointment, they will call you at a certain time )...you re-arrange your day to take the call...and they NEVER call and NEVER follow up. This is worrisome if you are planning to spend $100,000 plus and they do not bother to call back...and THEY were the ones who set up the call. Going to buy now instead of renovating. Maybe they are good, maybe they are not. Maybe they are too busy to call back. Maybe the person handling the call dropped the ball. Who knows? I don't.

Ackard completed an addition/exterior renovation for us in 2020. It was a complicated job with structural changes, foundation work, exterior stairs/driveway and a large retaining wall. They did a fantastic job from start to finish. Everyone at Ackard was professional and a pleasure to work with. They were always available to answer any questions we had and the whole process was very transparent and straightforward. The quality of Ackard's work is extremely high. This includes both their immediate team *and* the subcontractors they bring in to do specialized tasks. The latter is very important. The Ackard team and subcontractors were always willing to engage in problem solving when the need arose, and were always both patient and responsive when we made changes or re-thought our decisions as we went along. Our renovation was done in a very old house, and as expected, there were always "surprises." In some cases, the Ackard team member simply fixed it when he saw the problem. Other "surprises" were dealt with by the extremely competent subcontractors. They have a lot of experience in renovating older houses and that experience shows. For me as a client, the primary consideration is that fundamental renovation work -- electrical, plumbing, new or modified walls -- will be done the right way -- especially in older homes. Our work with them was on a smaller scale than their full-fledged rebuilds-- a smorgasbord of updates in different rooms-- so potential clients with similar needs can be aware that they do take on such work.

Seeing all the renovation activity in our area, we decided to take the plunge and update our home aesthetically, and for climate resilience. After we interviewed a few builders we were very impressed with Ackard’s portfolio. More so by their sense of excitement of bringing out the best in our home. Finally, it turned out some of the home renovations around the neighborhood we found most appealed were Ackard! One deluxe reno please! The designers offered helpful, tasteful advice. The site foreman Noel is a real superhero, paying attention to every detail. The Ackard process is fast, well documented, and orderly. All those old drafts, and cold spots have been eliminated. Our house now has lovely illumination, and upgraded electrical. As a final fun note, before our big reveal party I ruined a switch by accident- Remi, the electrical manager saved the day, rushing over to install a replacement. Our house looks better than we ever imagined, and we are very happy.

My experience with Ackard has far exceeded any expectations I had going through the process of designing/building a home. As this is likely the biggest purchase a person can make in their lifetime it was a huge undertaking. Ackard made it not only comfortable, but exciting and incredibly enjoyable.
