Here you will be able to see the reviews of people who buy the products and services of K&J Fencing (Contractor) in the area of Courtenay (Canada).
As of day this firm receives a score of 3.6 over 5 and this score was based on 23 reviews.
You may have noticed that its rating is quite high, and it is based on a very large number of opinions, so we may say that the valuation is quite reliable. If many people have bothered to leave their score when they are happy with the business, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to give evaluations when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Contractor belongs to the category of Fence contractor.
I may be a little biased as I am also one of the installers, but yeah, great fences and great quality (especially if I did it :P)
I bought a new house in Courtenay while living in the lower mainland and had to book a fence install before even seeing my property and Kurt was beyond helpful and professional over the phone & email and we made our booking. Closer to the date he was very available to answer any questions I had and when it came time to build my fence, him and his crew were there first thing in the morning, very considerate and professional and got the job done right. They came back a few times to adjust my fence after I got my landscaping done too which was very nice. Overall a wonderful experience and a wonderful crew. Thanks guys!
Worst experience I have ever had in dealing with a contractor. Majority of work was completed on July 27th and company was paid in full the balance of the contract. Remaining work was to be tied into a new quote we were going to get concerning building another section of fence. After asking, and not receiving a written quote by August 8th, we decided to cancel the quote request and asked for the outstanding work to be completed. On August 18th, the company's was advised our gate needed to be fixed as well due to some warranty issues. Yesterday, September 30th everything was finally done. Biggest complaint is the company does not return calls or emails, and several times they said they were going to show up to do the work and then neither showed up or let us know they couldn't make it. Several times we sat around all day due to no shows and not being advised. Very frustrating experience!
This is a long review, but if you plan on using K & J fencing you should take the time to read. We’d seen the work K&J had done on new installs and decided we would contact them for an estimate to replace our tired fence. Kurt showed up when he said he would, and we discussed our requirements. Once we received the estimate we agreed on a date and paid half down for materials. They were a few weeks past the agreed upon date, but we put that off the COVID. The tear down of the old fence went well. Except for the damage done to our garden where the workers trundled through. Some plants were destroyed. Most of the old fence and concrete was hauled away. During the installation of the new fence the workers had to be reminded of panel locations and to minimize the gaps at the bottom of the fence etc. This was a daily occurrence throughout the install. After approximately one week the fence appeared to be mostly complete. The workers did a quick cleanup and left without saying a word. At no time during this whole process was Kurt seen attending the site. Within an hour of the workers leaving, we received an invoice for the balance owing. Before sending the money, my wife did a walkaround and this is what she found. Photo #1, gate opening from right hand instead of left-hand side. Photo #2, dirt pile left in the garden. Photo #3, old fence post concrete left in garden. Photo #4, damaged retaining wall. Photo #5 undermined retaining wall. Photo #6, fence post cut too short. Photos #7 & 8, walkway pavers removed and unable to install due to over abundance of concrete. Photo #9, undermined city sidewalk. Photos #10 & 11, gate post hole and gap. Photo #12, back yard fence gap. Photo #13, backyard fence gap. Photo #14, front fence gap. Photo #15, us repairing the retaining wall. So, it was apparent that Kurt did not do a final quality walkaround of the site prior to sending the final invoice. We contacted him and I met him the next day to show him the shoddy work. The first thing he said is “We are not landscapers”. No, they’re not that and that is obvious, but they should not leave a job site in worse condition than when they arrived. We asked that they return and remediate the deficiencies after the BC day long weekend, but he had his job site foreman return to work the next day. Most of the shortcomings were repaired adequately except for the fence post that was cut too short but would be repaired later and the retaining wall. This was completed in late September. And we paid the balance owing. Had we been seniors or physically challenged in any way, we would have been in a position n where we’d have to hire landscapers to come in and repair the damages caused by K & J fencing. So, are we happy with the end result? Mostly. Would we use K & J Fencing again? Never. Would I recommend K & J Fencing? Also, a no. Perhaps their work on a first install is good but not in our established yard.
We were very pleased with both the fence quality and the timely and professional manner of the installation. We would recommend K&J to others.
Great experience with K&J, friendly crew & they had some good ideas for our space! Use them!
Working with K&J Fencing was an excellent experience and opportunity for me. I learned lots and developed some real world skills. The quality of work is excellent and they strive for timely work to keep your yard secure!
Quality product reasonably priced. Great install
The owner of this company needs to learn what professionalism is. He completely took advance of an 87 yr old man (our neighbour) who just wanted his fence rebuilt as his previous fence (even, with no gaps at the bottom so our pets , a cat and a medium sized dog, couldn't get thru). We are the neighbours who share this fence and were appalled not only at how the owner treated our elderly neighbour and us , but also what a terrible job was done. We have a fence that wasn't the same height all the way along the top, HUGE spaces all the way along the bottom where my neighbours pet and mine could get thru easily (even though they were reminded several times over several days to make it even and lower to the ground and we were reassured that it would be done.) PLUS piles dirt and rocks piles all over our gardens, pole holes left unfilled, broken branches from our mature shrubs, and trampled plants no where near the fence line AND 3 large/ main branches from our 15 year old apple tree cut right back to the trunk and HUGE humps of cement piled onto of the soil in the flower beds. When we spoke to the owner after workers called him to speak to us, he indicated that he thought the job was done. We pointed out that the fence panels were not level and the spaces at ground levels were HUGE He indicated that "the ground was not level". we indicated it never was but that the fence that they had been removed was level and without huge spaces at the bottom. We just wanted the fence to be the same as it had been. His response was ' now you want landscape ties too", and that "it was too late as the posts had already been cut" , that "we had agreed to it (the top of the fence) being stepped" , (WE HAD NOT, and neither had our neighbour) and "the panels were lowered". Indeed 3 were low enough but the remainder of the fence panels were moved up not lowered. His parting remark was, "I will take you to small claims court"!!! By this point it was getting dark and we really couldn't see the mess left behind, nor the damage done. We began to talk to our neighbour thru the fence. He couldn't see nor hear well. The next day after speaking with his wife he indicated that indeed the fence had been level all along and no holes were at the bottom, that a mess was left on his side, that a MASSIVE opening had been left in the back corner he hadn't seen. That no one had mentioned to him that plants, shrubs or trees were in the way of building the fence. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! NOT ONLY DOES HE DO A TERRIBLE JOB, HE IS A BULLY AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF TWO SENIORS. R and B
Really happy with the new fence K&J just put in for us. It looks great! They were quick and left our yard looking better than when they had showed up!
Fast quality work very. Left the job site neat and tidy would most definitely use again
Very nice cedar fencing. Workers were very friendly and polite.
They just completed a wonderful fence for us and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome...
This company did work in my neighborhood. And left a huge mess of rocks all over the road. And dumped a bunch into our storm drain. It is not very hard to be respectable and clean up public areas you have made a mess of. And you shouldn’t be using the storm drain as a place to dump anything. Maybe if the owner did a face plant after hitting a pile of rocks on the road. They would be a bit more respectful. I will make sure to stay clear of this company.
I hired K & J fencing on August 27th from a quote I received from them earlier that week for a fencing job to commence on October 19th. I paid 50% deposit upon agreement of the job. They did not end up starting the job until November 1st. The job was completed on November 16th. When we discussed the job it included an arbor which the “owner “ says he did not include in his verbal quote and we never ended up with one on either side of the yard. One thing we added after the initial quote was a 2nd gate, this was an extra fee which I included in my deposit. When the first crew of fencers arrived they were hand digging holes for a single gate. We had to inform them of the second gate mid job because miscommunication between the boss and employees seemed to be a common issue throughout the job. We had several different people show up to do the work, one guy told us the last guy who was here quit and we were also told by one he had only been with the company for 5 days. The most disheartening thing about this company was listening to them trash talk each other! “_____ is wasting your time, money and energy, get rid of him!” Many F bombs, even the owner participated in complaining about which employees need to “pull their Ef’ing weight”. There were several discussions mid project, one including fixing an over sized gap (the owner wanted to put a bandaid on it, I ended up asking him to just re-do the panel correctly). They left all the dirt they dug up in piles on our newly laid sod because he “wasn’t under the impression he was a landscaper too”. Well, as a customer I didn’t know I would be left with their mess to clean up. When they took the old concrete and panels, why wouldn’t they just clean up all of their mess? He did end up coming back to remove it when he fixed screws that were left sticking out and put up some boards they had forgotten on the backside of the fence etc. They also used moldy wood and it will remain unsightly until spring when I’ll have to hire someone to pressure wash it away or sand it off myself before I can paint it. Some of the boards are split already, this is not the quality I was expecting. The worst thing about working with this company was the pressure for final payment. It was asked of me before the deficiencies were completed. The night the job was finally complete it was a random snow storm and before I even was out to check the work he had sent me a past due notice and hounded me on messenger. I told him I didn’t like his aggressive approach as it was very off-putting. Within 24 hours of the job being done I mailed him a cheque. He was mad I didn’t respond to his Facebook messages fast enough (within a few hours) I ended up asking the office person who phoned that same day to ask about payment to have him no longer message me as the cheque was in the mail and they would have it as soon as Canada Post got it to them. He proceeded to message me saying he “is not into playing games and what leads him to believe we have mailed him a cheque” This rude and pushy attitude is completely uncalled for. I would never recommend this company.
