I met with Dylan from Freehold Construction late last summer to get a quote on a new concrete driveway, sidewalks, and patio. Dylan impressed me immediately with his warm, friendly, personable manner. He listened carefully to all my requirements and provided a quote within 48 hours of our meeting. I had already had two other quotes from other companies and Freehold was right in the ballpark. However, the other companies did not even come close to impressing me as much as Freehold Construction. Dylan assured me that Freehold was a family owned and run business and that customer service was his utmost priority. He promised that the job would be completed in three days, and that once the company was on site, they would work straight through until the job was finished. We planned to do the work first thing this spring. Well, the job has just been completed, and I couldn't be more pleased. Dylan delivered exactly what he promised. Again, his friendly, professional demeanor made for a wonderful experience overall. His crew were also friendly, knowledgable, on time, and great to have on site. I noticed some neighbors asking them some questions, so the neighborhood was also obviously impressed. The job is now complete, and everything looks fantastic. They left the yard neat and tidy. I have nothing but good things to say about our experience with the people at Freehold Concrete. During the consultation leading to the estimate, we got a good feeling about the level of expertise of the project manager and his desire to meet our specific needs. We got a second quote from another company and did not get the same impression (and their estimate was quite a bit higher). The cribbing crew showed up on time and worked a full 12 hour day to complete the job. Throughout the day, the crew master called us out to offer design options, all of which turned out to be better than what we had envisioned. The crew was courteous and polite and worked hard and efficiently. The pouring/finishing crew arrived 2 days later and also did a great job. It only took them 2 hours. I have no reservations about recommending Freehold Concrete to family and friends.

No other company would do our project because they said it was too small, Freehold was happy to do it so we hired them to replace a cement slab in front of our front door and to add a sidewalk. We were originally booked for beginning of August but they notified us that we would be getting it completed 6 weeks earlier which was perfect so we can complete the rest of our landscaping later this summer. The prep crew were awesome, they discussed how we wanted the work done and they were able to make it even better. After forms were removed there was a bit of a underflow left on our main sidewalk, we contacted them and they were out the next day to make it perfect. We are very happy with all the staff we were in contact with everyone seemed to know what they were talking about. We love our new slab & sidewalk.

We did significant preliminary online research before narrowing down to a short list of several possible contractors for the project we had in mind - replacing old concrete pavers on the front walkway and around the house perimeter to the backyard gate. In every step of this process, Dylan's Freehold Concrete was a strong contender, and he was particularly notable for his prompt, clear, and detailed responses to questions and requests for options and clarifications. He listened carefully to our ideas, offered his own ideas without insisting on them, and generated a variety of alternative approaches with a non-judgemental awareness of our budgetary and aesthetic considerations. The work was executed with excellent attention to detail, a high degree of proficiency, and a final outcome that we were absolutely delighted with. The agreed price was not the lowest estimate of those contractors we initially considered, but a rough tally of the material and labour costs convinced us that we got a bargain... and that is without reckoning on the quality of the final product, which was exceptional. Short version, WOW!! I was more than happy to hand over payment, HIRE Freehold… Keep reading for the long story. I had a very large landscape project to do, I needed to make the entire yard wheelchair accessible, this included the following. Rip out old wooden deck, ramp and replace with concreate patio and ramp, pave the entire backyard, pave side of the house, add in a new front walkway, poor pad for wheelchair lift, remove part of old paved sidewalk, remove old paved wheelchair pad. It was a lot and I was very worried due to the scope and cost. I had a few quotes done, with ideas ranging from paving stones for everything, stamped concreate, aggregate concrete, with various costs associated. I had used Freehold before about 8 years ago and they did a great job, to be honest I didn’t have them on my first round of quotes as I was also going to do some fence work and was looking at getting everything done at once, due to the price of wood skyrocketing I decided to focus on just the paving, as such I dug up an old email and gave them a call. Daniel came out, I showed him what I wanted to do, what I needed for access, my concerns with slope, not wanting it to look like a parking lot, along with other concerns that came up in the other quotes. He was great, very straight forward and made excellent suggestions. He wrote up a quote, I was able to make changes easily and get a very quick response. The project was huge and so was the quote, but I needed it done and based on the other quotes it was very reasonable Having used them before and reading some reviews of the other contractors, I picked FreeHold. Due to the size of the project I had to wait about 2 months for the work to start, it was going to take 3 days plus drying time. About 2 weeks before the start date Daniel came by to review the project, this was great as it was reassurance for the work that would be taking place, timelines and a better idea of the process. The magical day arrived, Daniel and the crew arrived just after 7am and started to do their thing, Dylan the owner also came by which was also reassuring, I was very nervous, I was able go over one last time with both Daniel and Dylan, made a few small changes and away they went. I was only able to stay in the house for the morning on the first day as both entrances would be removed. So many great things that I saw and the amount of work was huge, these are some of the highlights out of so many. 1) The Crew was professional, fast and cleared out a lot of yard, it was a sight to see 2) They kept the area and road clean, sweeping up as needed 3) I received updates and pictures to finalize some key areas for access, this was important due to the wheelchair and access. 4) I came by to watch the second day, as they were putting forms in, again a sight to see, at this point I was able to see things come together, again crew was professional and friendly. 5) They were careful as they poured, I watched them wipe down the doors and clean up splashes, as they went along. 6) They have a person come by and clean up after, removing the forms, sweeping all the poured area and more, fixing and cleaning anything they can see. I didn’t expect this at all, they also fixed some grading in the ally that connected to the pad, again above and beyond 7) Walk through with Dylan on the following Monday, I had a few areas of concern all addressed right away and had the general fixit person (Sorry I don’t recall his name) come by to take care of a few items. The best way to sum up this project is that I was very happy to hand over the payment, I feel I got more than what I paid for with the amount of work that was done along with items that are hard to apply a monitory value such as the service, professionalism and the little extras that I never expected, above and beyond everyday, and giving me something that I have been waiting 8 years for. Being able to finally use and access my whole property from my wheelchair, is emotional and a huge game changer for me!! They nailed the whole project. Some Before and After pics

Elevated Craftsmanship! We asked Dylan to come out in the winter and take a look at our property and give us an estimate for an exposed aggregate patio - the work was done as early as we could have hoped for in the spring and was exactly the amount of the estimate. Dylan communicated with us in a timely, friendly, patient way - answering all our questions, letting us know what the next steps would be and when the crew would be out working. They cleaned up each day they were on site. The quality of their craftsmanship is outstanding: from the prep work (the amount of gravel, the rebar spacing, making sure that the rebar “floated” in the concrete rather than sitting on the gravel pad...help me with the correct language here Dylan :) to the final sealing. Based on the positive reviews I contacted Freehold Concrete for a quote. They responded promptly and sent one of their guys to the property to take measurements. After measuring out the area I was told a quote would be coming shortly. Five days later I hadn’t heard anything so I followed up. No response. After another week I sent a second follow up asking if they could let me know if they were interested or not. Again no response. It takes 30 seconds to respond to an email and write, “Sorry for the delay. I’ll have the quote to you by... Or, sorry we’re unable to take on this project because...” This has not been a positive experience.

I had spent roughly two months contacting contractors to provide a quote to have a backyard sidewalk poured, (3' x 31') all I seemed to get was no response back or they would quote ridiculous high hoping I would bite. After calling Dylan, I received a quote within two days that was just the amount I was expecting this should cost and within a week the work was done. I am very pleased with the service they have provided, and not to mention they went above and beyond of what I expected. I had a large mound of dirt resting against my garage in the ally that was clearly not being used that they had removed for free. Also I don't have an apron going into my garage, just gravel and they had re graded for me, again for free. Our experience working with Dylan, Daniel and team was excellent from start to finish on our patio project. We originally met in October to discuss our ideas and received our original quote. Daniel was so helpful with offering ideas/suggestions and we actually ended up going a slightly different way then we had originally planned. I like how the only negative review is from a non customer that has no idea what running a small business is like. I too run a small business and refer Dylan and his crews often. Most small businesses owners learn to differentiate between a quality lead and a poor lead. What most customers don't understand is the difference between quality of trades people and what is required to get the job done 20 or 30% better and maintain an excellent reputation. Customers needs to be friendly and understanding. Trades people aren't machines that spit out quality products for low prices. Attitude of the customer is huge when quoting. Poor attitude, increase price by 10% on bid. Pain in the butt, we become too busy to quote you. Thanks Freehold for doing good work to the customers we refer.

Re-edit at bottom: Horrible customer service! After reading such positive reviews on Homestars, I wanted them to do work for me this year. I tried to contact them several times with no returned calls. I even went as far as to attend the Home and Garden show where I knew they would be and talked to them in person for them to come out and get a quote. They said they would come out but I never heard from them after the show. I can't speak for their quality of work, but if its anything like their customer service and communication skills, it can't be that good. If the review had the option of giving no stars, I would. ***** Dear Freehold Construction, I appreciate your reply to my review. I understand that you only do a limited number of jobs per season. I'm sure you do not want to compromise quality for quantity. I also know that you cannot simply provide a quote to all 700 requests in a given year. It would simply be just too time-consuming since many will use it as comparative quotes to other companies and may not consider you at all for their project which ultimately costs your business time and money to provide a quote in the first place. But the fact that you have made appearances to the Home & Garden Show for years indicates that you are willing to have foot traffic pass by your booth to inquire about your services. How you choose to select who you want to provide quotes to is your own business. You have your reasons on how to conduct that. What does it say about your company when I have tried to contact you several times months in advance before the Home & Garden Show with no response? And to top it off, I physically came to see your booth and let you know I have tried to contact you. I followed up with a courtesy call after the show and no response. I see that it is a Google review that works to get your attention. I feel that if you are unable to provide a quote, the courteous thing to do is to at least let potential clients know you are no longer providing quotes for the season. This shows that you acknowledged that they tried to contact you. As with online reviews, I imagine referrals plays a significant part in your industry. Perhaps you needed somebody to fault you to let you know that your customer service level is not at a level you believe it to be at. Young or old, family or single, small or large company does not give an excuse for not replying to people. I know several companies that are local, smaller in size and are family oriented, but they try harder to compete for business and ensure customer service is consistently high. The claim that you are always near your phones hardly justifies why calls are not answered and voicemails are not returned. I stand by my one-star.

In May I hired Freehold concrete to remove the concrete pad in my backyard and pour a new one . At first look the pad looked great, Unfortunately due to human error the pad was actually poured incorrectly and the grading was wrong, Extent of which we didn't realize till after we had forms had been torn out and we had already paid so I have say I was quite nervous. I phoned Dylan and asked him to come look at the pad he was at my house within a couple hours he did the appropriate examination of the pad and made the decision to take out the pad and repour at no cost to us. I'd like to thank Dylan for having the integrity to do what's right. I will definitely be using Freehold when I need to do my driveway and front pathway in a couple years

For my REAL REVIEW, please continue to read. I originally called 3 different contractors for this work. I chose Freehold based on reviews I read & the quote they gave me. Dylan came out onsite to discuss the work and I got a good vibe talking to him. I am very happy with Dylan and his crew. He poured a sidewalk connecting to another walkway I have in my back yard approx 26 feet long & 3 feet wide. I would recommend using this company in the future and I would use them again myself. 5 stars is appropriate for this company.

We had our standard concrete driveway torn down and replaced by Freehold Concrete. The process with Freehold was easy from the beginning with Dylan popping by to do an estimate the very next day after my request for a quote and they were very competitive on pricing and flexible with scheduling the work from there out. Each of the various crews to come by (demo, prep, pour, final cleanup) were incredibly courteous and professional. I'd definitely use Freehold again for any other concrete needs that I have.

Very happy with the new garage pad Freehold poured for me (35'x23' with 2' walls). I appreciated Dylan's responsiveness, attention to detail, and professionalism. He was always happy to answer any questions I had and he was right there working with the rest of the crew. He also caught that our survey pin in the alley way was out by a couple inches and adjusted the location of our pad accordingly (this was later confirmed by a survey crew). The final price was fair and consistent with our initial quote and our project was completed on schedule. I'd recommend Freehold to anybody looking for a concrete contractor, even just on the basis of the customer service alone.

Freehold replaced a patio pad off my walkout basement. They were very flexible as I chose to do the demolition and removal myself which my body regretted for a while. When I was ready they were on site promptly and did an excellent job. Something to prevent excess under the forms would have been nice but a little landscaping will fix that.
