A Focus on Environmental Protection
Veresen Inc. employed Sunshine Contracting as a substitute for a contractor that was terminated from a very difficult project. The project had been left in disarray and we had some serious environmental issues in a highly sensitive area of the Skeena water shed and Dasque Clusters including Middle Creek on two run of river projects.
At the time of the general contractor demobilizing, the Environmental Monitor was threatening the project with a “Stop Work Order.” We decided that Sunshine Contracting could step in and take care of the issues at site with the large spoil areas, fish habitats, working near water courses, frog salvage, catch basins and all water management issues. The scope of work in an eight week period was over 1.5 million dollars and Mike and Robert Sindia and their team performed these tasks over and above all expectations.
In a short period, they went from an earthworks and excavation company to a company that understood environmental issues and were proactive in switching their equipment’s’ oil to biodegradable oils without being asked. They understood the geologist assessment and were able to participate with our site geologist in order to pass this information onto their operators.
Their safety record was impeccable and the fact that they did their equipment inspections in the morning before start-up reduced the incident rates down to minimal and was recognized by Veresen as the “Best in Class” of all contractors that we have dealt with in the earthworks business.
I not only would recommend Sunshine Contracting led by Mike and Robert Sindia for works on any project, but would be willing to go a step further in my endorsement of them as the best little contractor that we have had the pleasure of dealing with and expect them to be growing in the future to a respectable size in any environmental works.
