They where clean and organized and seem to care about what they where doing. The machine they brought seem to be spraying the insulation for more than an hour. Now I don't know about r values but I think that that was a lot of insulation that was added. I will see how it helps in the winter with keeping my home warmer. We chose Great Northern Insulation based on a trusted friend's recommendation. Of course, we did due diligence by getting another estimate from another company. GNI wasn't cheaper but their flexibility, communication, the work they did and the reasons for it seemed more in tune with our preference. Chris, Ron, and Sean arrived on time (early, actually), were courteous, professional, and unobtrusive (as much as you can be in this situation). They estimated it would take them under 4 hours and they were correct. They laid plastic sheeting before and vacuumed up after themselves. Their goal was to have our house looking the same after their visit as it had before, and they pretty much succeeded (nobody can vacuum to my wife's standard). They encouraged honesty in this review. We have no regrets choosing GNI and sincerely recommend them.

I had cellulose blown in my attic with Great Northern, and they did the work as quoted. They did a good job keeping their work space reasonably clean and even brought in a vacuum at the end of the job. The house still needed dusting, but that is to be expected. 2nd Edit - I have to upgarde my rating to 4 stars. Great Northern inspected my deficiencies promptly and returned within just a few days to redo all of the under sprayed areas. There was no argument or hassle, they just determined what needed to be done and made the corrections. I appreciate that they made the adjustments so quickly. I am not sure why this happened. I think perhaps they assumed that there was more height in the roof purloin area. I really think they should add some guide marks on the roof joists before they start spraying so that they can see where they need to be but perhaps there is a good reason why this is not done. In the end, there was no argument or hassle, they just determined what needed to be done and made the corrections. EDIT - My drywaller pointed out how poor the cleanup was in several areas and how this woudl slow down the drywall installation as there was excess sprayfoam in multiple locations past the studs. Another huge issue is the fact that the sprayfoam was under applied across both roofs and in multiple locations on the walls. What shoudl have been a consistent 5+ inches depth was often at 4" or less. Now my drywall crew has to leave the site for an entire day so this can be corrected. I am extremely disappointed that I mention 2x to the crew about my concerns for the roof and no one from Great Northern bothered to check. I had to email pictures of multiple locations before they agreed to come out and look. The homeowner really should not have to get up on a ladder and poke around to see if the work was done properly. Am trying to re-schedule the repair work with them, will update once this has been done but so far...pretty disappointed.

I have to admit that the entirely new insulation which was completed by GNI made a big difference in our heating bill. So they came in and stage one was for them to remove all the old insulation and then a crew goes back in to vacuum up all debris and dust. Second stage they go in with a spray foam which hardens overnight and this foam forms the vapour barrier. This was spread over the entire floor of the attic and although the explained that they would cover around electrical switches and fan housing so that this items do not get covered with a vapour foam barrier. In our case they apparently covered up our bathroom housing fan unit plus the ducting which lies on the floor. Lo and behold in the beginning of November 2021 our bathroom fan packed in and with the result had to replace. So I thought of replacing it with one of the quieter ones in the market. Therefore had to replace the housing unit and after a visit I realized what had occurred and called up GNI to help to fix because if I would replace the housing I will compromise the benefit of the vapour barrier. GNI did come in after many phone calls and the gentleman explained that he would go into the attic and cut around the bathroom fan housing and around the ducting to free it but confirmed that it sacrifice the integrity of the vapour barrier plus if I needed to get it done properly then they would charge me for it. I was in disagreement with this because we had paid them just over 5K and they had actually messed up and are expecting me to pay for their mistake. I have now to deal with a louder bathroom fan.

Installation crew was pleasant and did a good. Not so happy with the scheduler who 1/2 hour after arrival of the spray form crew sent them a text telling them they could not start the job until I gave them $3500. The sales rep I booked the job with told me no deposit was required and I only paid when the entire job was complete. The scheduler sent me an e-mail a few minutes after she told the crew with the same demand for money or the crew could not start the job. I contacted her and expressed my displeasure at the apparent change in the terms agreed upon with the sales staff. Her response was that the money had to be provided. I told her to fix the issue and If she couldn’t do it, she needed to find someone who could. The installers also texted their office asking the office staff to fix things before the job was cancelled. I received a call from the Woodstock manager who assured me that the terms I was given by the sales staff would be adhered to and the job would get completed. The spray foam crew went ahead and the job was well done. Strangely enough after all the promises by the manager I still got a call from accounts receivable around 10:30 am inquiring about when I was paying the outstanding bill. Communication in the Woodstock office between staff is poor and leaves one about customer service from there. Blown in insulation was scheduled for Friday but I had no start time for the crew. I got a reminder e-mail Thursday afternoon from the scheduler (who had given me grief) saying the crew was booked for Friday, but no time given. I replied to her e-mail asking for an arrival time for the crew. She did not reply. I sent a stand alone e-mail again asking when the crew would arrive. She did not reply. I called the Woodstock office Friday morning at 8am and left a message on her voice mail. Again I got no response. The installation crews are good at their jobs, but the level of customer service from the office staff is rather poor.

I was interviewing 5 companies for my house for the insulation job. The person that came over to provide the quote was extremely unprofessional. Our appointment was set for 11am, he called me around 1030am and asked me if I was able to make the appointment earlier, when I said that unfortunately I was still on the road and could not make the appointment, his tone changed right away. I reached home around 1050am and called him right away, he didn't pick up, but he did show up to my place at 11am. From the moment he walked in, he had a very cocky ton to him. When I was asking questions, he was like "you should know this already". He also made a mess on my floors, and his response to the mess was "Oh cant help that, this stuff happens", not any type of apology was given. Every single company that provided me with quotes took the time to clean up after themselves

We had Bill Sawyer come in to do the work in our home. As we couldn't be here ourselves, my mother-in-law (MIL) offered to help us. Bill and Sawyer were the guys for the job and my MIL couldn't stop saying positive things about these two. They were very courteous, polite and personable. She enjoyed her conversations with them and they made sure to inform her of the steps in the process. She was really thrilled to have these two in our home. The work space was cleaned after they left, which is very important. They took care in ensuring they didn't make a mess and cleaned up once the job was done. As I said, all my MIL could say about these two was nothing but positive and she'd definitely recommend them to anyone. As for the quote and the rest of the process before the job, it was easy and things were clearly outlined. Response times are very quick and the customer service is great.

Had gni in to blow additional insulation into artic and add channel vents. The Woodstock crew was on time and very efficient and friendly. They were done the job quickly. Only issue I had was it thought would have used the whole channel w vent in large spaces but they only installed half of the vent as they come from store. Now my quote did not say to fill entire space with whole vent so if you want this write it in quote. They used plastic to cover my floors and others wosw an excellent job done.

They offered a better product and service than the local competitors. They thoroughly completed a large job unsupervised in just a couple hours and took great care in the finishing details. Last fall I had GNI top up my attic insulation with blown in fibreglass. One of their associates, Bernie answered any questions I had and seemed very knowledgeable about the mechanics behind proper air sealing and ventilation. He then proceeded to air seal my attic and spent a lot of time up there so he must have been busy. The crew was neat and timely and wanted me to go up and take a quick look. After winter I noticed a small issue and they came back no questions asked. DO NOT use this company! I am a realtor and decided to use this company for my own home because of the good reviews I saw on Google. I had one small cold cellar I wanted insulated because there was moisture and humidity getting in. I asked the gentleman doing the quote if this would stop the moisture because if not, I did not want the work done. He assured me it would, we spent 1600.00 to get a 4x10 room done (which I have discovered is a ridiculous price!). What was promised was not delivered. Work was done, the cold seller still had moisture in it. I called the company multiple times. In fact every day for the following week. I was told to call the regional manager Jason and did and continue to call him and get his answering machine for probably 5 days. I tried to go above the regional manager and it has been a month-and-a-half later and I still have not spoken to Jason. I'm sure all the good comments on here are because these clients have not had an issue, but if you do have an issue, this company is impossible to deal with!

I signed up with the Greensaver and Great Northern Insulation came to do a inspection of the property and found out that I was living in the house with minimum insulation and huge job was recommended and which got approved later. On the day of job Aron, Tiffany and Gabe came and to my surprise they were so professional that it literally blew my mind. They were so meticulous with the job that in my opinion it can't be better than that. Whole basement was done, main floor walls were drilled and insulation pumped and attic was done. It took two days to complete the job and the amount of patience exhibited by the team was amazing. I was so impressed by the job carried out by specially Tiffany. I thanked her many times. I'm really thankful to Aron for supervising and executing himself the job to perfection. Can I give 6 stars? We went through the Costco program, so were not familiar with this company prior to them coming to quote and then coming back to do the job. Chris L and his partner showed up on time (5 min early, actually!) and got right to work. When a detached bathroom vent was found in the attic, Chris took the time to repair it for me to save my husband the effort later. They were in and out in under 2 hours and cleaned up after themselves. You'd never know they were here! Really pleased and happy to share my experience.

We hired them to do attic few months ago, the guys did a really good job and they cleaned up the floor. Couple months later we hired them again for spray foam insulation all around the house, and that’s how the frustration begins. The guys showed up really late, they came in and asked us to stay away from the house for 24 hours. I asked them to clean up after they done because we have two little ones, and I don’t want them to touch the spray foam. When we came back to the house, little purple foams were everywhere on the floor, hanging on the wall. After couple weeks, we noticed the front door is always freezing, then we found out there was a big whole all along the front wall. We called back and they said they will come back to fix it. We asked if we need to stay out of the for 24 hours, the guys said “YES”. But when we asked if we can reimburse the money for hotel? He said that we don’t have to stay out of the house as long as we don’t go near it (it’s the front door by the way) We stayed in hotel anyway on our own expenses. When we left, I asked the guys to clean up after they done because the kids put anything in their mouth. He said “ of course, will do” . When we came back to the house, guess what happened, tiny purple foam is everywhere on the floor. What frustrates me the most is “they don’t care about the job they do, they don’t care about the customers, they just don’t care as long as they get money” If you want to make your life miserable, this is the company for you! I don’t understand how they got all five stars with this work attitude . Here are some pictures!

All Great Northern staff from the estimator, office staff and installers were easy to deal with and helpful. The lead time for getting an estimator out for quote was a little longer than I would have liked, because they are busy, but when they came out they were thorough and answered all my questions. The folks that completed the insulation left the house in good condition and fixed the bathroom fan exhaust as well as added venting where required. Happy with the service received!

After discussing and quoting spray foam with three companies, I selected Great Northern, and am so glad I did, as they met every expectation I had. Right from the initial contact with Nicole, the quoting process with Bill, the scheduling with Amy, the payment with Lisa, and the installation with Kyle, Michael, and Kevin - everything went extremely well. The team was very open to discussing the product and service they offer, and their work was ideal. They managed to leave the basement cleaner than it was when they arrived, and there was no over spray left behind. They also sprayed the skylight in my attic as part of the job, and it was also completed with the same level of care. Great quality work, and I would highly recommend Great Northern to anyone!

We had our heritage home insulated by Great Northern Insulation and we were so impressed by their level of professionalism and kindness towards our family. My son is 3 and has severe asthma and sensory issues. Our sales Rep was Randy, and was fantastic with my son. I told my son that Bob the Builder was coming to look at our house (so he would understand we were having construction done). Randy clued in on this and went to his truck and came in with his construction hat on and said "Hi, I am Bob the Builder". Just fabulous. Thanks Randy! Next was insulation day. We had Brendan and Ron. Both guys were fantastic and worked in 36c weather and were clean and efficient in their work. I was super-impressed that they vacuumed very thoroughly after the work was complete. What impressed me most, was how respectful and kind they both were, something that is unheard of in the Reno / improvement industry. What I liked, was that they took pictures for me to look at the work following completion and explained what they did so I could understand it. Thanks Great Northern!

We had a leak in our roof due to ice damming even after new shingles were installed. Turns out it was caused by lack of insulation. The existing insulation was checked for water damage and brought up to R50. Tom and Derek were great. They were fast, efficient and friendly even when I kept popping my head into the attic to see how they were making out. Hot messy work but they kept the house clean and when they left you would never know they were here. I would recommend Great Northern Insulation to anyone looking to install new or upgrade their existing insulation.

They had to cancel the first appointment because their truck broke down. I stayed around the house waiting for them for a fair bit before Angelo finally called to let me know. That was a bit of an inconvenience - it would have been better to know they weren't coming sooner so I wasn't tied to the house. But these things happen, I suppose, and Angelo did contact me to let me know in the end. The second visit went OK. They arrived a little later than they had said they, would once they were here the guys were all great, the job was done swiftly and professionally and the place was cleaned up nicely afterwards. The work was top notch as far as insulating goes, they took care not to fill the moore vents (I know of another company that did that) and they cleaned up after. The installers (Alex B. & Alex L.) that came were respectful and really friendly. The price was fair but right now it's 33 celsius (feels like 37) at 3:00 in the afternoon and my air hasn't come on yet (Stat is set for 23 at night 25 in the day, house is at 24 right now) I think I'm going to get my money back. Give you air conditioner a break... have these guys give you a free quote!

Had GNI quote for top-up and fill of the attic above our garage as well as drill and fill the 2 exterior walls of the garage. Also top-up our main house attic as it had settled over the years. The salesman was courteous and on time and even promptly answered many many questions that arose in the time between quotation and final blow in day. When the crew arrived on time they started with the garage attic prep as well at the same time the main house attic prep. During the house attic prep it was noticed and brought to my attention that there was a large amount of moisture in the insulation throughout. It was damp to the touch and the install was halted until I could find out the root cause. They continued to complete the garage attic. Several suggestions were made by the installers and the salesman which were quite helpful during my back and forth with the roof installers and my insurance company. GNI patiently waited and didn't charge anything for splitting the job in half while waiting on the outcome. Once the moisture problem was taken care of, they sent the crew back out to finish the job which was very quick and efficient. Plastic was laid down on all walking and working surfaces before starting and removed and vacuumed when complete. The only very minor suggestion I may offer is that they come up with some sort of protection for the baseboards particularly the corner trim with something to avoid paint chips and scratches from the plastic tubing being dragged into and out of the house that is used to blow in the insulation. We are in desperate need of a freshening up the paint on our trim anyway so there were no worries and the crew was very careful and mindful but it's very hard to avoid rubbing. GNI will likely be my first and only call in the future should the need arise. Looking forward to the energy savings in the summer and winter! Thanks very much!

You asked for a review: The cottage is warmer now. The truck broke down. The workers on day one were not the workers on day 2 or 3, and there was no communication between them. They did work that I specifically asked them not to do, and vice versa. Someone stole, yes, stole, a work light belonging to a friend, and I had to purchase a new one for him ($29). The sales rep refused to return my call. It was very difficult getting head office to return my call. The price was exorbitant. The workers littered the driveway with cigarette butts. Not a pleasant experience.

I contracted GNI to apply spray foam insulation to a basement renovation. During the installation a washing machine valve box was pushed into the wall (likely accidentally) by one of the installers, and the spray foam was installed effectively cementing the valve box in place so that the trim ring would no longer cover the exposed edge of the drywall once installed. I contacted Geri at GNI and reported this. She assured me that a supervisor would attend and address this. No one reached out to contact me, so with drywall scheduled to be installed I again contacted GNI. Again no response. It seems that once GNI has your money there is no service. Other than this, the product was thoroughly applied and I was satisfied with the job. It is unfortunate that this issue was not addressed.

My insulation work was done on 12th feb, 2018. The work was normal not that great. The filling height was not consistent. At places it was low and at places it was right. The expectation I had was they do a great and perfect job. Also, their insulation material is in-house manufactured and is not Owens Corning. I don't think this white insulation material is as good as the the pink one from Owens Corning. Worst thing was the rebate application is not even submitted at the time of me writing this review on 2nd of April as the person who did the job failed to get a form filled by me on the date of the job. They are acting only when I call. This is very poor. I suggest you explore some other companies who can do the insulation.

My experience started with Aaron Armstrong, the GNI rep, who was extremely personable and knowledgable, instilling a sense of confidence. He took the time and covered all bases. The actual installation was timely and well carried out. Unfortunately I don't recall the names of the three installers, but can say they were all very pleasant and professional. As far as the outcome, I am extremely pleased and noticed a difference immediately that evening when the temperature dipped. I am looking forward to the difference this will make in the summer. Horrible after sales service. We went with them because they were recommended by a family member. Upto the insulation everything went smoothly. After insulation we noticed that some lights started to flicker. This may have been caused by one of their people unintentionally messing with a pot light when they were insulating. Called up after sales and they sent over Aaron who took some pictures and 10 days later arrogantly tells me that the fault is mine and they are done with their services. The least a customer who spent $2000 insulating their attic would expect is that recommend the right person to fix the issue and then come fix all the insulation that they moved around to click pictures. Tried calling them multiple times to no response from the branch manager too. Now I don't feel confident in the way they have left the attic in bits and pieces insulated Update: Emailed the CEO and CFO. CFO was great to respond within 30 mins and had the branch manager call back within the next hour.

The work was completed quickly with no issues arising during installation. Items along the wall such as my sump pump and electrical panel were not damaged or sprayed over in any way and they did a good job protecting materials I had stored in the basement.

I was looking for companies that can improve my attic insulation in Richmond Hill. They had someone to come take a look at my attic the next day, took measurement and was told my quote will be sent by email. I followed up with them the next day and received the quote. GNI is not the cheapest but does quote me a reasonable price. I decided to go with them based on the great reviews on the Internet. Emailed them and booked an appointment that happens to be available for me in the same week. I asked to call one hour prior before coming and they did. They arrived very on time and did a good job to make sure there will be protection and no damage done to the house. They put the hose through my bathroom window, as it's the shortest and most convenient path. I had no problem with it as they did know what to do to protect the window and the floor. They spent quite some time to get things setup and prepared. Meanwhile they had lunch in the truck for about half hour too. That's not a problem. They continued and finished the job in a couple hours. Derek and Nate were the ones that worked on the job and they were friendly and updated me the progress for 1-2 times. At the end, I see my attic insulation got topped up and they insulated the hatch door as well (as written on the quote). Although it's written to top up to R60, but I wish they have a ruler put up in the attic to show me that. They let me to climb up and took a look at the result. They cleaned up after finishing the job. Of course I still had to do vacuum cleaning after. Overall I am happy with their job and would recommend them to others.

We had GNI install blown-in insulation at our addition. They were able to fit us into a tight schedule and arrived on time. Shortly after the installation it became clear that some corners were not properly insulated. Following a review with a thermal camera, carried out by the owner, I contacted GNI to request remediation of some form. This was 4 days ago and I have still heard nothing. While I was glad to have the work completed on time, I am disappointed that the issue has not been remedied. I am planning to fix it myself as they have not responded to requests for service.

I had my garage attic and walls filled by GNI. I requested they drill the holes in the walls all on the same level so I could cover the holes with trim from one end to the other. The walls are textured and would be difficult to repair. They drilled the holes with a 10 inch difference from one end to the other. I suppose they don't carry a tape measure. Another issue I have is they emptied the hopper of fiberglass into the attic before refilling with cellulose. I ordered cellulose for a reason and didn't particularly appreciate having fiberglass blown in. I read after the fact that you shouldn't put cellulose on top of fiberglass because it is heavier. They explained it is ok because they top it with extra to ensure the r value but they can't tell me how much they topped it to ensure the appropriate r value. One 2 foot section of wall had 4 holes drilled and left open without filling. They can't explain why. I had to spray some foam in to fill the holes to stop the wind from blowing in. I last spoke to Bernie who said he would call midweek (last week) to setup a time to come and look at the walls. He never called. I left him 2 messages at the end of the week and he never called back. I called yesterday and he didn't answer but sent me a text saying "please text me". I did but he never responded. I called the office and expressed my dismay and requested someone call me but no one has called. I hired GNI because I had another house entirely insulated (drill and fill and attic) years ago with good results. I will never recommend or hire GNI again.

We're so glad we chose GNI to upgrade the insulation in our older home. We had a bit of water intrusion and initially were going to have them treat for possible mould, however, when they came out to complete the job they were honest and noted that there was no mould and thus no need to spend the extra money on treatment for it. The actual work itself was good, but the experience unfortunately was horrible. We were repeatedly told by the office that they would arrive on the day of the work around 0730/0800 including when we confirmed the afternoon before. We wanted to know the arrival time so we could be prepared to leave and be out of the house while the work was done, as they requested. We couldn't stay with family or friends because of the pandemic so we arranged a hotel. We also have a dog, so there was a lot of things for us to organize, hence wanting to know the rough arrival time. However, by 0930 they still hadn't arrived so we called the office and were told they had to finish work elsewhere from the day prior and would be there shortly (by 11 the latest and someone would call to confirm the time). As a courtesy, why did no one think to call us to let us know they would be delayed? When asked about this, Tamara sort of apologized, and said she had a lot going on. No one called back to give us an updated ETA, so we called again at 1130 and were told they'd be there momentarily. After 4 hours of waiting, the workers finally arrived at noon and overall they did a good job. However, they left dirty mud foot prints all over our stairs to the basement, which had just been freshly carpeted. When I asked the lead about it, he apologized and stated he told the other workers to be careful and to cover the stairs, but that wasn't done. He told me to contact Matt Reesor, the sales rep to get some reimbursement for that and the inconvenience we'd experienced and that Matt could call him as well to corroborate what happened. I immediately sent Matt an email after the work was completed on December 30 requesting a call back, but I didn't hear back from him. I just called him this morning because he never returned my call and upon telling him of my experience, I was told "We don't randomly give out credits, but I'll be sure to let management know about your experience." Absolutely atrocious customer service. It's clear this place is a factory, so my advice would be to go elsewhere.

We had GNI blow in fibreglass insulation at two separate properties on separate dates in March 2016. This review reflects our experience with GNI for property B. Please also read our review for property A. For property B, we had a positive experience. Because we had already gone through the contractor down-selection on property A, we just went straight back to GNI for property B. The job was about half the size of property A. Like with our previous experience, we found GNI to be friendly, responsive and prompt. The salesman was on time for the quote, and the crew showed up right at the start of the 1.5 hr window provided. (TIP: Book the first appointment of the day!) The job was done sooner than expected. The price for the job was very reasonable, and they even offered a discount (on property A) because we were doing two properties around the same time. We probably received the same "U" shaped baffles vs the larger "W" shaped ones (read our review of property A for more info), and the attic hatch was probably only insulated to R-30 (the rest of the attic was topped up to R-50), but it didn't matter to us as much for property B. To be fair, there was enough time between the installations that we could have cancelled B after A was completed if we really wanted to, but we were happy enough and the job at B was expected to be simpler, so we proceeded (which aligns with our bottom line comment on both reviews). There was no damage observed to property B (vs. minor paint damaged to A). Of course there was a bunch of blown-in insulation that needed to be vacuumed up afterwards, but we think that that's more likely to do with the nature of the job than with the specific contractor hired. TIP: Cover anything in the rooms that you don't want to get dusty. BOTTOM LINE: Would we use GNI again? That depends. For a complicated or detail-oriented job, no. But for a simple, in-and-out basic insulation upgrade where price is a factor, yes.

My home is 130 years old and has never had insulation. I contacted GNI for a quote. The sales rep, Matt, was very friendly and knowledgeable. We opted to get spray foam insulation as it would give us the R value in the walls and work best with our home's construction. The installation team, Reinier and Christian, arrived on time the day of installation and did an absolutely fantastic job. Our home is actually warm now and there's no more drafts. We never imagined that a house this age could be retrofitted to be so warm, comfortable, and energy efficient. Our furnace is running a lot less now to keep the house warmer than it was prior to insulating. I can't wait to see how this translates into heating bill savings.

We have had G.N. at our house for 3 different jobs, one major and 2 smaller ones. We had spray foam and blown in done. Each time the guys were awesome. Very professional and they do a fantastic job. At least twice they were actually early for the appt. My only complaint. This last time we contacted them for a basement job, I talked to at least 3 or 4 different people before the job was complete. One was scheduling, one for payment and one for the quote. It would be a much more comfortable experience dealing with one person. There people were very nice though and very easy to get a hold of.

We had a back room insulated a few months ago. Prior to agreeing to the service, we had someone from the company assess whether re-insulation would result in improved warmth compared to existing insulation. They assured us that there would be a significant benefit and to go ahead with the project. We spent hours removing existing insulation ourselves, and spent 900 dollars on this company's services, and the room is just as cold (if not colder) than before. They came and assessed, and offered a partial refund. It has now been one month, and our emails to this company regarding the refund have gone unanswered. We are tremendously disappointed with this company.

Had a smaller job to spray, which they were able to schedule in within a week. The crew that showed up sprayed thicker, and more areas than were expected. They did a great job! One major benefit to the spray foam(besides being the most efficient, and being it's own air barrier)is that it locks your studs securely. We had one area where there was no choice but to use 2x2 studs. Once it was sprayed this wall was as sturdy as the 2x4 studs. Would be incredible at stiffening the metal studs as well.

John Plumstead came to give me an estimate for adding insulation to the attic. The house is over 100 years old and only had about 4 inches of insulation in the attic. John discovered that one type of insulation was vermiculite and advised me that it should be analyzed for asbestos content before moving forward. He stressed the importance of keeping GNI employees safe as well as the homeowners. He gathered samples for me and I sent it to an independent laboratory in London, which showed that the samples were lower than their reporting limit. The next week I met Phil and Tom who insulated the attic quickly and efficiently. Phil was courteous and good at explaining things. Tom who was situated in the attic, was reserved. The attic has gone from approximately an R10/12 to R60. I notice that the temperature seems balanced coming from downstairs to the upstairs bedrooms. No more noticeable cold temperature as you climb the stairs. I had 3 estimates altogether and Great Northern was the only one that picked up on the vermiculite insulation and they were also the most economical.

I had them closed-cell spray-foam my entire basement, main floor and second floor bathroom + put a layer in my attic and blow the required amount in on top. The company was, overall, a pleasure to work with. I identified a few areas that needed a bit more attention so they came back and resolved my concerns. The spraying was likely a bit more expensive than if it were to be insulated with the typical batt insulation, but I have no regrets! The house is fully sealed and comfortable. No drafts. No cold. Shopped around a bit for before deciding to go ahead with GNI... Since the other guys were a smaller operation, they were less responsive due to doing it all. Right from the initial quote/sale visit from Mike C. - clarifying my concerns to the install itself with John and Noah - who did a good job with the entire basement header perimeter and cold room - they were thorough and did it in 2 sweeps. Was particularly impressed with the accommodation of Jason and Nick from the East office to schedule a crew from the West office and prompt follow up due to the December rush. Failed to catch some spots the first time after the crew already left. They did come the following day since they were in the neighborhood again from the West office - Tyrone and John touched up all the cold spots. Thanks GNI, you will be on my callback list for my next project.

I wanted extra insulation in the attic . I called the company and was asked a few questions as to what ,I exactly needed, and was given a price and date over the phone.The installer called me the day before at which point I had a few questions for him. First, I asked what they had in mind in order to seal the light fixture boxes which had never been done. I was informed that they weren't prepared to do that , but if I wished they could place tape on the boxes , which they did. The next thing I asked was what type of dam would be installed around the access hatch in order to stop the insulation from falling into the room when being opened. They told me that what they normally do is place cardboard around the opening. I couldn't accept this as it seemed very unprofessional so they offered to built a box out of a stronger material for $60.00. I had some spare plywood lying around so I built one myself. Worked out really well. I would have expected to be asked , by the salesperson ,various questions with regards to the state of the attic to begin with ,and informed of the cost of any additions required. Except for these minor issues all worked out ok as the workers did a good job and the price was right.

We had a great experience with GNI, they were knowledgeable and friendly and provided us with service and advice in a timely manner with exceptional customer service. Kelly Sloan came in to give us and estimate and even tell us that now was a good time to get the job done as they had free time in their schedule before they got busy for the season. The only thing that I didn't like was that the front door had to be left open in order to have the hose from the truck come into the house so they could "spray" in the insulation so I'd suggest picking a decently warm day for install or be prepared with your winter jacket on. I can't recall the names of the installers but the two young gentlemen were friendly and quick at their job making sure they cleaned up along the way and out down drop sheets so their work boots didn't mess up my floors either. The installers were later than the agreed upon time as the last job ran late but after calling the customer service line they assured me that they would still have time for my job which was great and kind of unexpected as I assumed they would have said they would want to reschedule so they didn't have to work later into the evening. Overall I would use them again for future jobs and would recommend them to friends.

When we had a problem It was looked into right away by one of the installers. It seems the sales man was incorrect in his assessment. He discussed eave vents but did not go up into the attic to see if the sealing of the eaves was done. That was not on the work order so it took the installers longer to do the work. This could have been done by my husband before hand if we had known it was not part of the work order.

Did an online request form to receive a call a day later and we played phone tag for a day until I left a very detailed message. Did not hear back when I emailed a week later finally got a call and was able to talk with someone. I was offered a quote over the phone (without coming to the house to see what needed to be done) and was told that the insulation had to be taken out by us and all the company would do is come and spray foam and leave (not sure if this is standard but we are looking for more) I just looked on their website and see a whole section on removal of insulation. Confused on why I wasn’t told about this on the phone and given a quote for removal. Not too impressed with the service thus far and will be look elsewhere for other quotes.

When we purchased our home, we knew it would offer many unique challenges for our contractors. First, we want to thank Tamara for keeping everything organized and on track to meet our timelines throughout our changing needs. Due to COVID, we understand that response times maybe slower as people are still working from home. this was not the case, she was wonderful to deal with. Timing was right to schedule. The most challenging areas of the home improvements were handled professionally and knowledgeable with every worker from Great Northern. Our crawlspaces were spray foamed by Dave and Dave. All I can say is wow!.... what a terrific job and evenly distributed for the confined areas they had to access on their belly. Great attitude about the company and life in general. They were very patient with all our questions and knew their stuff. We had Joel and Mike suck out the insulation from the attic. The temperature hit 38 degrees, maybe higher and they had to maneuver into 5 different areas with a low roof line. Again wow! The knowledge, expertise, and professionalism, was outstanding. They addressed all our issues with a solution based on their knowledge and experience. Terrific! Bill and Phil completed the blowing in for the new insulation and it was very hot again. Phil took the extra precautions to wrap himself in plastic when accessing the smaller attic around our kitchen area so dust and insulation would not be all over our home and then came in with a vacuum to clean the extras. Great, great work guys! All workers came with the right equipment and proper PPE for each job. They all took the correct precautions necessary to protect when handling the different materials they were working with. There was a few issues with the equipment due to the amount of garbage that was sucked through the tubes but Joel knew how to repair the hoses on site and carried on with little disruption. We learned so much from all of the workers on the why and hows with regards to the proper ventilation and proper protection for the life of our home and the safety of our family. The company should be proud to have dedicated and knowledgeable workers like the crew that handled our account. Great team work!!!! Thank you so much for everything.

Great Northern added insulation to our attic on May 31, bringing it to R60 from R30. Tom and Phil did a great job blowing in the insulation, adding baffles and insulating the access door. They were very professional. After one month, I'm glad I made the investment. Our upstairs is much cooler and I'm sure it will be warmer in the winter. We didn't need to use our air conditioner until the end of June, much later than normal.

After experiencing some water stains on the ceiling of my ensuite bathroom I contacted 3 companies to come and take a look. GNI was easily the best choice. Aaron came to assess and quote. He was extremely knowledgeable and confirmed with confidence that lack of insulation in that area was the issue. At 17 years old, my attic was also no longer to code for insulation so I contracted GNI to add the additional 12 inches of insulation needed to get to code, and address the condensation issue. The quote was very competitive and in the end slightly less than the other 2 I received. The day of install the 2 man team were courteous, efficient and no mess was left. The original installation was done on Oct 29, 2018.Early this year we noticed an issue with dampness in an upstairs bedroom ceiling. I contacted their office and an inspector named Eric, came to visit on June 2th. He noticed right away that the original installation was not done correctly as they had failed to fill to the eaves completely. He took a number of photos and although he could not determine the cause for the dampness he issued a repair order to be done about the eaves No Charge. I received a follow-up call shortly there after and the appointment was booked for June 17th. Installers Chris & Mark arrived on time and completed the task to a R70 value. Chris discovered a full batt of insulation laying unopen directly over the area the dampness was noticed. We were completely puzzled as to its origin. Chris said he spread it out on the existing insulation. He speculated that because the plastic cover could cause condensation which would lead to the dampness. We still aren't convinced but have decided to have the roof re-shingled. We were very pleased that Great Northern stood behind their workmanship and would recommend them to anyone. We called Great Northern Insulation for two insulation jobs we required. Blown in insulation for the attic and spray foam for the sunroom. Both teams did an awesome work within a the expected time frame and more importantly they did not leave anything behind them. We had an issue with our ceiling and during our investigation of the problem we called Great Northern Insulation Woodstock to check our attic for moisture and insulation levels. The representative that came to the house was very knowledgeable and pleasant. He helped us identify what we needed to do to combat our problem. We hired them to have insulation blown into the attic to bring the R-value up to code and remove damaged insulation from water. They corrected a previous install error from another company of the baffles from the venting in the soffits. The install team worked quickly and we're also pleasant. The only issue I have is the install team forgot their vacuum and so the cleanup wasn't as great as I had read in previous reviews. Overall though I would recommend this company.

Had 2 guys come to put spray insulation in my attic and kick attics. One guy went through my ceiling causing a massive hole, and they did not finish insulating a kick attic door that was part of the estimate. They had someone come out and fix the ceiling which took longer than expected, but did a job well done. When calling the manager with concerns about the time period of getting my ceiling done, no call was returned at all. No follow up call to see how things were going either, lack of customer service for sure. I believe with this huge inconvenience and stress to me some kind of discount should of been offered but nothing given, just a small refund for the job that was not completed that was part of my estimate and down payment. Being a first time home owner I went with a trusted company, but sorry I will not recommend you or use you ever again.

Everyone I spoke with was very professional and the job was done very well. I would have given five stars except for two small issues, which didn't affect the job done at all. The confirmation letter was very strongly worded regarding payment which I felt should have been reserved for customers who are defaulting on their payments. The other issue was that the installers showed up three hours early. This was fine with me because I was up early and I had the space cleared for the job but it could have been a difficulty for the installers if I had chosen to be out for the morning, not realizing that they would be there early, Otherwise, I was very pleased with everyone I dealt with at Great Northern Insulation.

Deficiencies in the existing “builders standard” were corrected, insulation blown in to specifications and they even added 6 inches of rigid insulation to the attic hatch! This is our second time using Great Northern Insulation, we had our basement completely spray foamed a couple of years ago and our heating bills were drastically reduced. We have now just had them come back and spray our garage as my husband uses our garage all winter so having it spray foamed will definitely help keep the heat contained. Great people, great service, fast and efficient!
