Back in July, with a very dry spring/summer, my dug well went dry and we had absolutely no water. I called several companies that offered services to drill an artesian. I settled on Martin B Hammond services after reading good google reviews. I had made arrangements for a water delivery services company to fill an 1100L water tote so we could use it for dishes and toilet flushing. I spoke directly to Martin on the phone and he explained that even though he had his drill crew just 15 minutes away from my home, he was unable to put me ahead of already scheduled work that he had on Bell Island, but he said there was only 2 days work on Bell Island and he would be at my place immediately after.
I scheduled a date and time with Martin for a visit to my home, and had to take a day off work to meet with him. He never did show up. I called him that night to ask why he never showed, to which he replied he was "busy in the yard". He then said he would be here the following day to go over the plan/area to put the well. Again, he never showed. I claled him again approx 6pm to ask where he was, and he said he was just leaving Bay Roberts and he would be here in about 90 minutes. When he arrived, I was upset. I had told him that I had now lost 2 days' wages waiting for him to show up. Martin assured me he would compenaste me on the charges. He said he would deduct 2 days of my wage from his cost. I accepted those terms.
The crew was supposed to be here the following Monday to start work at 8am. When no one showed up, I waitied until 10am and called Martin. He told me that while on Bell Island, his crew had picked up 2-3 more jobs. I was irate. He had put convienent/readily accessible work ahead of me, when just a few days prior he told me that he couldn't break schedule due to having a 2 day job booked on Bell Island. I was disgusted with his disregard for my situation, and blatent hypocritical decision to keep his crew on Bell Island for jobs that they only picked u because they were there. While I understand costs associated with mobing equipment to and from Bell Island...thats not my problem. He made a committment, and has broken it...now for the 3rd time.
I called around to other drilling companies to see if anyone could be here sooner, but it wasn't possible unfortunately. The day before Martin's crew were to arrive, he then called saying that he couldn't find anyone to dig the trench needed to go from the well head to the house, and that I'd have to find someone. Again, I was astounded. I called around and was able to borrow a friend's small backhoe to dig the ditch myself. The next morning the crew arrived, and I was then told by them that I needed to find an electrician to wire/install a piggy back panel for the power for the pump. This was not known to me, and I called a friend who is an electrician, and he came the following day to install the box. The install after that went fine, and I have yet to hear a single word from Martin. The bill arrived, with no deduction of 2 days' wage, and when I called Martin 3-4 times to discuss, there was no answer. Martin came to my street a few weeks later to do an install to which he said he would call me and have a chat...which to date hasn't happened, and now it's 3 months later.
While the end result was quality work, I would not recommend Martin B Hammond to anyone based on his dishonesty, poor scheduling, and poor customer service.
