I first met Russell of Thrift Computers just before Christmas. I had a very old external hard drive for doing MacBook Air backups. My photo gallery was getting close to 20,000 and I kept getting Storage Shortage messages. The Back up system was no longer up to the job. Russell cleaned up storage issues and got me into nifty new SP Armor external drive. I now have more than half of my storage back. Two weeks ago I dragged in my old HP 6100 printer which was refusing to connect to my Mac. Russell noted that it was an antique! I just so happened that another customer had dropped off a newer Epson ET-4550 with all new ink bottles and said she was done with it. Russell made an unexpected, generous decision od the spot. " John you can have this for what it cost me...zero!" Wow! and then he even set it all up and I walked out with a new functioning printer. Last week I went back because I had read that Mac OS had been hacked by a new Malware. Russell did not seem concerned but he ran a MalwareBytes scan and sure enough he had been right. I have complete confidence in Russell to fairly diagnose any issues I bring to him and be extremely fair in his fees.

I received top-notch service from the owner, Russell, at Thrift Computers and will happily recommend his shop to anyone requiring repairs or service to their computers! I recently decided to upgrade my older laptop from Windows 7 to 10. I first checked at London Drugs in the computer department and then phoned the Geek Squad. Both quoted prices that were far higher than I wanted to pay for an aging laptop. Then I discovered there was a computer shop on Johnston Road in White Rock, close to my home. I dropped in to get a quote and was thrilled when Russell told me he could install Windows 10 for a much more reasonable price — and he suggested an SSD upgrade as well, to make my computer much faster than it was. I came back the next day and, not only had he installed Windows 10 and the new SSD, he had also cleaned up my computer and removed all the malware and unnecessary files. My old laptop is like new now! And, even with the new drive installed, it still cost $100 less than what the other computer repair shops had quoted me!! Russell also took the time to answer all my questions, with professionalism and patience. I am thrilled that this excellent family-run business is in my neighborhood, and I will be going to Thrift Computers for all my computer needs in the future!

I got the dreaded black screen of death on my laptop this past Saturday. I reached out to Thrift Computers via their website and though it was late in the day (after hours), I heard back from Russell. I brought my laptop in on Sunday and after running diagnostics, it could not be salvaged. I wound up getting a great deal on a refurbished Lenovo (a business model) and my data copied over from my old laptop onto my newer one (before Russell recycled it). He took the time to explain my options and was incredibly patient with my questions. Russell and his wife, Shirin, are just what White Rock needs. Brought in a 27in iMac from 2015 that Apple claimed was essentially broken and quoted $400 to attempt to fix it with no guarantees. The owner/ operators were incredibly polite, friendly and welcoming to their shop. They really took the time to explain all issues with the device, the service required to fix it and broke down all the costs associated with the fix. There was no smoke and mirrors, no upselling into a new laptop, just honest to goodness good service. What was once a bogged down and badly lagging laptop now runs easily and lightning fast! Truly next level personal customer support that you just don't get in the big chain outlets. Almost made me wish I had more items that needed to be fixed, as they are the type of people you want to support in the community by supporting their business. I actually found Thrift Computers by accident. I was looking for a computer shop that was more established and ended following the wrong address. Boy am I happy that I made such a silly mistake. I brought my mother's prebuilt pc in to replace a faulty fan, of which I wasn't sure which fan it was. I also had quite an old custom pc that needed rebuilding. Russel was a delight to deal with. He quickly identified which fan needed replacing in my mother's computer and even went as far as installing additional fans upon seeing how cramped and hot her case ran. The older computer rebuild was only $50! I also discussed with Russel about my search for a 30 Series GPU and how they cost just as much if not more than an entire prebuilt gaming rig, he proceeded to show me a couple of options he had prebuilt that were far better spec'd and of better quality and price than most everything I found online. So impressed with his professionalism, expertise, and friendliness (he remembered my name each time I entered the store), that I returned a week after the repairs and purchased a high end gaming rig. Impressive more was the fact that he let me test every component that he was selling me before I had to pay. (PC, monitor, key board). I highly recommend Thrift Computers to everyone of any level knowledge and know-how. In fact I have already been spreading the word to all my gaming buddies.

I had such a great experience with Russell and Thrift Computers! Apple Retailers and other stores were telling me I would need to give them my computer for up to 10 business days, which I don't think is realistic for a professional in 2021. Russell assured me that he could have it fixed in an hour, I didn't need to give him my computer until the part came in, and the price was comparable to Apple retailers. Everything was done quickly, effectively, and with great communication. Absolutely will be coming back here for all computer needs!

Decided to try out the new computer store in my favorite old Angelic teashop location. I brought my 10-year-old laptop to Russell for help with its slow speed, and he said "Why is this laptop on Windows7, why not Windows 10"/ I explained that three other service people had tried to update and told me it was impossible. Well, Russell said he would be the fourth and he would succeed, and he DID!! As long as Russell is working in our area, we will never go to a different shop. The owner Russel had the tools needed to fix my problem. The problem I had was not a computer fix but was a very fine gauge of wire on a broken solar panel patio umbrella. Russel had the welding tools to repair what made the lights on the umbrella non-operative.
