This refurbished computer came in what seems like mind condition. The PC Room's taken the body of a Elitebook Touch HP Laptop and souped this baby up with 16DDR(that's a 200% increase from stock models). I've barely had it long but it's easily my new favorite laptop I've ever owned. It would've been great fresh out of the box, but The PC Room made is infinitely better than any stock model I'd ever seen while pricing less than entry level. If I could shake their hands, I'd get to know them each personally and shake their hands. In the future I'll only consider The PC Room first to see what was available. Great hardware pricing but doesn't listen to what the customer wants. I requested Windows 10 Pro installed on the off-lease Dell I bought and they installed a trial version instead. Also requested internal Wifi card,. They called and said it's all ready, when I arrived they handed me a USB dongle. I didn't want a dongle. Lastly, I requested NO SOFTWARE installed on the computer. I got a computer with bloatware, including horrible AVG, which I cannot remove as Windows 10 trial won't let me do a thing! Not even going to bother bringing back, no time to drive out. Hardware worth the price, I'll sort out the Windows and software issue myself.

As a student I was looking for an affordable yet potent laptop to replace my Chromebook that had recently toasted its battery. I was shocked to find a tricked out 3rd gen Lenovo on thepcroom.ca for only $350. SSD, 8 GB ram, and an i5 processor that is still relevant. I called them up to make sure the deal was real, and received great service and advice regarding local shipping. Not only was there a spring deal for free shipping and a laptop messenger bag, I got another 5% off as a student. The laptop arrived within a few days, and was all I had hoped for, except that I noticed the battery tanked from 100 to 0% in a few minutes unplugged. I called up thepcroom guys again, and they were very responsive to this issue, immediately shipping a brand new battery for free, which now allows me to post up at coffee shops all day and do the work that I need this laptop for. I've bought 3 laptops over the years from them and they have been good machines. The latest however, ended up having a password set BIOS that can't be removed. They would only offer to change to motherboard, but I didn't want a reassembled machine like that so kept it as is. They are used products... the prices are a little high for that, but they do make a bit of effort to keep their clients happy. If they tell you that the laptop can be upgraded to Windows 10 for free, remember that it doesn't necessarily mean it is supported by the manufacturer to do so, as I also found out.

Their website says they offer PC rentals, they have a form to request a quote and I had to call in a week later to find out no, in fact they don't actually do rentals.

They did the job well but the pricing process was very disappointing. Not transparent. Please set price before taking service. Service was not proactive. I needed to replace my power supply and apply thermal paste to the motherboard and set the cooling unit. The repair person was busy so the other person asked him and said it will cost $45 for the first task. I asked about the second task, they said to bring back my CPU so they can estimate. I called another company, who said the job will take 1 hour and cost about $80. I imagined PC room would be about 60 or 70 for the two tasks. So, I chose PC room. When I took CPU and all the parts they said that they are busy. So, they asked me to keep the parts and everything there and said they will call me. I asked again about price, they said they will confirm it over the phone on Monday. They didn't inform anything. When I called back after two days, it seemed like they had forgotten and then I was told that they'll call me tomorrow. Again I asked about price they said they'll tell me tomorrow. Next day, they call me to say that the job is done and it will cost me $100! When I went to their store they had my CPU ready and asked to pay me $113 total, with taxes. Again the repair person wasn't there, I was told that he was at his doctor's place and he will call me about the pricing issue when he returns. I didn't get any calls. I said that they were supposed to call me before starting the work to fix the price. Why did they do it without confirming? But they gave a blank look and said thge fee was actually $130, I was given a student discount. That's what the boss said who is now at the doctor's office. I had no more energy or time to argue and fuss over this so I paid and came back with my CPU. This is my first PC service experience in Canada. And I don't know what to say. It took 6 days to do a less than 1 hour task and after hearing $45 (which made me choose them) I had to pay $113. Not to mention I had to go there 3 times. The store person was nice and gentle. But the process wasn't good. They fixed the PC but as I said, it was a disappointing service. The price isn't the issue, if they said 100 at the first meeting I could make a decision then. And also save a lot of time from the back and forth. I hope they will be more transparent with their pricing and value the commitments they make. If you're considering them, I remind you again - be sure to set the price.

I would not bring my laptop here again. I brought in my laptop for repair - the hard drive was fried. They were able to replace it quite quickly and return my laptop but then continued to "scan" my old hard drive to see if they could easily access the data. After days of "scanning", they stated it would need to be sent off to a forensic lab for a cost of $250-350. I took the "fried" hard drive to a friend, who took 30 minutes and a $22 part to access the data and retrieve it. I wouldn't be bringing my laptop here again. Total scam.

Updated: Good shop for used PC gear. I have purchased a laptop and desktop here and arranged a couple family members to purchase their laptops from the store. My advice is to pick out the specific laptop or desktop you want. Note the serial numbers and buy that specific unit from them. Given it's used equipment you may end up with issues but the staff have been very good about any issues I have had with the equipment and resolved them free of charge.

George and his staff have always been the ones to see in Ottawa when in need of a good desktop or laptop computer. They sell refurbished computers, but only high-end business/government-grade systems like Lenovo ThinkCentre & ThinkPad, and HP Compaq Elite, and they always do a complete refurbishment (cleaning, maintenance and testing), so every system I've gotten has always been like new. In fact, I just purchased a nice HP Compaq Elite 8000 for $99! They even come with a D.O.A.warranty. Best of all, he buys them in huge quantities, I think from government surplus liquidations, and so he buys them at a great discount, which he passes to his customers. George and his staff are a great group of guys who are knowledgeable and a great pleasure to talk to. They sell high end business grade computers, which have been completely tested and professionally refurbished, and their prices are unbelievable. I highly recommend you check them out!

Had my MacBook screen replaced here in 2018/2019. They did a really poor job. The screen still wobbles and doesn't stay in place. I brought it back in 2020 and asked them to fix the problem. They tried to charge me an additional fee to have the problem fixed, and had to call another shop because they didn't actually know how to fix the issue themselves. They also forgot to properly reattach the screws of surrounding components that had to be removed to replace the screen, along with one of the screws that opens the back of the laptop. The whole experience was a waste of time and money. I would not go back and unfortunately would not say this computer shop is operated by trained, reliable, or even trustworthy technicians.

Games and Play

The PC Room really delivered. I was hesitant to buy a refurbished laptop as this was my 1st time going this route. A gentleman named Fouad helped me very efficiently when I called and explained what I was looking for. He helped me select the right laptops for my purpose. I needed to have the laptops shipped to Nova Scotia and after only six days they arrived in perfect condition; very well packaged and included all the specifications as promised. Overall excellent experience!

The owner/manager was quick to apologize and offer an exchange or partial refund with warranty still the same as he agreed that I shouldn't of received this model. Glad to know that his customer service is great as nowadays no one has this anymore. Will do business in the future if/when needed hopefully I get 4 years out of this Yoga 12.

Excellent deals on off-lease Lenovo, HP, Dell laptops. These are business class machines, so they're built more solidly than consumer-grade laptops. And the owner is honest and fair. Don't be afraid to buy used, these are solid machines in good condition with plenty of life in them. They almost all come with SSD storage, which makes them plenty fast. Bought a T420s here back in 2015 and its still going strong!

This store has the best selection of old computers and laptops. The prices are a bit lower than other stores in town. They do bargain a bit on price so always ask for a discount. If you're buying a laptop, check the internal specifications carefully (run something like dxdiag) because they tend to list models with different configurations at the same price so you can sometimes find a real bargain.

When my old desktop stopped working for an unknown reason and they couldn't find a fix, they provided me with a brand new desktop with my old hard drive, software, files, etc. already loaded and didn't charge me for any labour. Highly recommend without hesitation to anyone looking for a new or refurbished PC, or has any issues with their computer that a simple restart won't fix.

I brought my laptop in to get the keyboard replaced. They said they would take it in and look at it, giving me a quote for free, and then we could move on, taking no longer than 3 days start to finish. They didn't call me about the quote after two days so I called and they said they had already done work and that I had to pay for the work I hadn't ordered. Then, they informed me the part would be arriving late (not their fault), but for the next week, I had to call every other day because while they had updates, they would not keep me informed, even though they said they would (specifically, they said they would let me know when the part was on route, at the shop, and ready to repair, of which I didn't receive any calls). After the repair, the keyboard works great but now the mouse pad doesn't work super great, probably from the opening and closing of the case. Not happy overall, would not recommend. I don't think that this is a universal experience, but I speaks to how they are in less-ideal circumstances. If you are looking for repairs, go for someone more reliable.

Computer broke after 45 days. I Will drive up To Ottawa To get it fixed as they won't cover shipping even after the owner told me about their mistake. I didn't use no bad langage but i was pretty upset about computer that had so many problems in a month and a half. It's the second time i call you about those problem, first time Windows wasn't properly installed nor was the graphic card. I spent a few minutes with a technician wich was really helpfull. This explain the 4 star review. He explained me there was another issue that might or hot affect the capacity of the cpu To run. Came here a few months ago to bring in a computer my boyfriend and I tried to put together (after ordering all the parts online). We put it all together, but it would not boot up! George, the owner, gave us an estimate, thinking the job wouldn't be too hard to figure out. It turned out it took a little more effort than he expected but he still kept true to the quote, where other places would probably ask for more. He was a delightful gentleman and you can tell, he really loves what he is doing and is great at it! EDIT: Went for a second time to get my computer fixed. This time it was dealt in a quick and effective manner. Increased the score of my review + Nice enough people - Poor communication - Took a long time to get computer fixed Went to get my laptop screen fixed. Was told that it'd be 4 days to order the part + to assemble. After 1 week of not hearing anything I called them and they said they hadn't recieved the part. But that they would call me to update about the shipping process. They didn't. At least they gave me 1/2 price off for the 2nd repair I needed (broken USB). However, I will not be returning to them again. My advice would be to them to 1) make no promises about when parts that need to be shipped from outside Canada will come & 2) to communicate with the customer more, especially when the customer asks to be updated about the status of the shipment & repair

The staff were incredible. The prices were a steal. I bought a Lenovo T430 for $329.99 + tax, which is usually priced there at $749.99. It works like new and I am very happy with it.
