I don't normally leave reviews, but my interaction here has left me so frustrated I thought it warranted an exception. I brought in an external hard drive that my computer could still recognize and view the folders of, but froze up every time you tried to access any of the files. I thought it would be a simple data recovery problem. They proceeded to then keep my device for four and a half months (not even exaggerating) while providing me zero updates. I had to call multiple times to ask for a status update, and each time I was given next to no information.
Eventually, after my persistence, I was given a final update - they've done everything they can and the only option is to send the drive off to a third party that would charge minimum $800. I decided to cut my losses and take my drive home. They wanted to charge me about $60 for the labour involved, which was apparently already a discount. I pointed out that it was pretty steep considering I was getting nothing out of their services, so the price dropped to $45. Annoyed, but understanding that labour costs money, I thought that was it.
Then I looked at the invoice. The only attempts they made to recover the data were to try copy and pasting the files, as if I hadn't thought of that stellar idea before bringing it in, and running a recovery software once. I paid $45 for them to try things I could, and did, try myself. Except I had to wait nearly 5 months for them to do it while never once calling to update me. I'm pretty convinced that I was either forgotten about or sent to the bottom of a very long queue, because there's no way that those services take more than a few days.
It's also worth noting that when I called at one point about getting a new hard drive to transfer the files onto, I was quoted that a 1TB drive would cost somewhere around $130 (I don't remember the exact figure). This is pretty absurd when you can buy a drive of the same size for under $80 from Amazon, Staples, etc. Absolute robbery.
