Staff was very knowledgeable and were willing to share it by explaining the reasons and solutions to the problem. You don't get that at most places. Usually it's drop out of and I'll take care of it. Price was reasonable and the work was done properly and in a timely fashion. Overall I would highly recommend this shop for all computer repairs, I know I will continue to return.

Great, helpful and friendly service! It did take rather a long time to get the parts in to fix two things on my laptop, but still, the cost was reasonable, and it's now running like a charm. I also found Allen more helpful and knowledgeable than employees at Geebo who I've brought the laptop to before.

This place is fast and affordable. I took my laptop here years ago and within 2 days had all my issues on my comp fixed without any problems for years. Friendly, dependable and affordable computer diagnostics and repair in Dartmouth's North End area. If you support local small businesses, then you should come here to get all of your computer repair needs taken care of in a jiffy.

Its a small shop with rather confrontational staff and unreasonable prices. Examples include $20 for a VGA to DVI cord, $60 for a laptop charging cable, and $100 for labour for switching out a hard drive in a laptop. It seems like each time I go in the service gets worse --- A majority of reviews on here appear to be fake as they are done by people with no previous reviews or even a profile photo. Instead of responding to the reviews like most businesses the store seems to be responding with 5 star reviews addressing low reviews to raise their score.

I had my laptop's power jack get bent internally so I couldn't charge my laptop. Took it in 4pm on a Thursday and got it the next day at 4pm. Cost me half of what I was expecting to pay and it was done fast. Allan is friendly and knowledgeable. I'd definitely recommend A1 and will bring my laptop back here next time it needs work.

I always have excellent service from Alan and the guys at A1 Laptops. About a year ago I purchased a previously owned HP professional model from A1. It works incredible and was very reasoably priced. I was buying new ones from Best Buy that were basically disposable junk with no after the sale service. Save your time and money and buy local. A1 gets it done!

I've purchased whole units from here as well as repairs and parts, the owner is fantastic, honest and very very fair. The owner is eager to fix any issues that arise from the rebuilds he does, even years later, at a reasonably low price and beats out any McWarranty. He throws in parts at no cost when he sees you might need them, and worked very well with my mother in law who is older and doesn't understand computers. It might not be a place to get the next screaming gaming rig, but the prices are good (great in a lot of cases - you can get the equivalent functionally of a new $600 unit for half price - it might not be this generation of processor, but it works the same) for mid range. Some of the extras like thumb drives and such might cost more for convenience but he's not a multi-corp operation like Walmart, staples, etc and can't do bulk deals. As for the "mess" upcycling pcs usually takes a lot of room, due to having to cannibalize good parts and the store front itself is quite small. He does a damn good job of managing in the space that he has operating a PC refurbishing operation with razor thin overhead. I've never had a unit that has been repaired or purchased suffer from damage while in the shop due to cleanliness or negligence. I rather enjoy any purchases I've made with this store, i enjoy dealing with the staff, and will continue to put my money into this local business, as I expect to continue to have excellent returns years to come.

Excellent shop with pleasant staff. Al and Mark are friendly and effective. One of the keys popped off my laptop and I couldn't get it to stay on. A couple of minutes later it was in place and I wasn't charged for the service. Lots of parking in the Dartmouth Shopping Centre lot as well. While I was waiting, a couple of customers stopped in and were treated very well. I highly recommend this establishment.

I was looking for an adapter for an old laptop hard drive, a laptop from early 2000's, to extract file from. I tried calling, emailing several times but never got a response. The store is open the same hours I work M-F 10-6 and not open on sat or sun. I was willing to take a cab on my lunch to get the adapter but I just gave up and searched amazon, as much as I love supporting small businesses I felt they don't want any of my business. in response to 360Edub about unprofessional and messy, there are a few shops I frequent that are cluttered, messy to the point it looks like the place hasn't been clean since 1962. The vacuum shop I frequent in Dartmouth gives great service, it's repaired when he says it'll be, most of the time he does the little extras. Same with a shoe maker I visit often, I ask to replace a sole and when I return he tells me an eyelet was replaced or replace my laces with leather laces for work shoes at no extra charge. Yes Walmart is bright and clean and professional looking but absolutely no f'n service, you have to do everything your self, shopping, checkout bagging pretty much.

Both times that I've used A1 I've gotten great service. The first time I was having an issue with the AC adapter on my laptop, which needed to be re-soldered to the motherboard I believe. A1 was the only place in town that could do it - they did a great job and at a fair price. More recently I was having an issue with a very new laptop. They did a great job advising me, and making sure I wasn't jeopardizing my manufacturer's warranty, while still helping me diagnose where the issue was. This saved me a lot of headaches. I wouldn't hesitate recommending these guys for any laptop related issue.

Stopped by to look for a replacement laptop fan and heat-sink to replace a severely broken fan. Owner kindly advised that a new heat-sink was not necessary. Paid a fair price for a new fan, and received good service. Will go back if I need more parts! I wouldn't describe the shop as dirty. Cluttered, perhaps, but looks better than my work area. :)

I don't normally take time for reviews like this, and not all of us in general online want profile pics of ourselves. Maybe you're ok with corporations, etc., knowing your every detail, but not all of us are. It's important to recognize the difference. I gave it 5 in part to indeed shift the balance in that regard, but also because this shop recognized a problem that another shop didn't for example. I have paperwork from the shop and two laptops in question. I have to return shortly, and would be fine with meeting you there at your convenience as proof that I am a real customer and that my review is real. I would also be happy to explain to you what the shop found that another could not, which saved us an entire laptop. Of course I don't expect you to take me up on my offer, but will try to keep the paperwork for a few months, and have both laptops just in case.

Great repair service, I was so worried about my laptop as it wouldn't charge and was dead. The problem was urgent since I had a work deadline to finish that evening and and the info was on my laptop. They fixed it in two hours and it only cost me $60, which is huge. Repairing anything is usually way more and takes days.

would like to reply to Andrew that said he left after seeing mess through door and walked away. If he walked away how is it he can say high prices about a used harddrive for over a 100 dollars. As ower we have not sold 320 gig harddrives for over a year when we did it was 69 dollars for a New one. We never did and still DO NOT sell used harddrives. As we do computer and electronic recycle for people and we have a small shop it does get bit clutter at times.

I've being a customer of this business for eight years. They are very knowledgeable and their prices are very fair. I highly recommend them. As for the busy space, this why they are still in business and competitive. They haven't grown beyond what the market will support, keep up the great service A-1 and don't re-locate to a larger space, you will have to charge more to cover increased expenses. Other small business owners could learn from these guys. Small locally owned and operated, its clear they enjoy their chosen field, that's who i want to business with.....
