We ate lunch at Deer View and will be back at any chance we’re in the area and will be sure to tell people to check it out. We commented to our waiter that in a place that is that beautiful they don’t normally need to serve good food…we were mind blown. Amazing food and views and top notch service. The server made us a specialty Jalapeño berry mojito that was so delicious. Thank you for an awesome experience!
Great location. Unfortunately not well maintained. The most disappointing point was when we entered i smelled a bad odour that i figured out was for lack of exhaust fan in the room. There were some black mold in our bathroom. Also the hallway and rooms were dark .
The room is small and empty, like my wallet after staying in this hotel. Too expensive as compared to the room features. Bed is comfortable though. Disappointing.
It's not rustic, it's just old. The only thing going for this hotel is the location. The rooms are old and unrenovated, the bathrooms are slightly renovated. The photos on the website Do NOT represent the actual rooms in this hotel. The furniture seems like it's from the 50s, weird decorations. There's carpet everywhere. The stairs to the hottub is all carpet. The wet stairs must contribute to the moldy smell of the hotel. For one night, it is fine but I would not go beyond that. There is no coffee maker in the rooms. I have never been to a hotel without coffee or tea. Don't forget, don't use hot and cold water at the same time. The temperature of the water in the shower also fluctuates on its own, one second you're fine, the next you're either burning yourself or in a freezer. They should also invest in some better WiFi as they don't have a tv. There is only one outlet in the entire room. You would think with the price they're charging for the hotel, they could buy some new furniture or fix up the place.
A pretty rundown place which charges a bomb for what they provide. The front desk is however great.... Those folks are really good
The food was excellent. Games room has a moldy smell. King room was ok. Proximity to Lake Louise is excellent. Gotta hike.
After not able to go for a hike due the smoke, my friend and I decided to try their breakfast. IT WAS DELICIOUS(sorry didn’t take photo, was hungry lol). The staff is amazing, especially Sandra. She is very nice person and very friendly. Talking to her felt like taking to a friend. Thank you Sandra.
If you're looking for a LODGE style place to stay then this is a great place for you. It's simple... No tvs or fridges in your room... But how much time so you ready spend on your room? Go take advantage of their rooftop hot tub. Remember the Bachelor Canada (Sean's season?!)... There's a sauna as well. Staff are extremely extremely friendly from front desk to the bar. Some rooms are quite tiny and rustic. Renovated rooms are more up to date. Niall at front desk was very knowledgeable and Rob was very helpful with bags and helping me get my things to my accommodations
Nice old lodge. The atmosphere is rustic and antique. it seems a bit over priced for what you get. Bed was comfy but room over all felt slightly dirty.
Kinda shocked the rooms didn’t have televisions. Definitely an older building that needs upgrades and some renovations. Staff was extremely friendly and the dinning hall has authentic mountain breakfast.
The room is very basic, but a great location and price.
While the rooms are indeed a bit outdated, they were more than adequate for our needs. Everything was clean and comfortable and the location cannot be beat. Being able to walk to Lake Louise without dealing with its parking lot is bonus enough to make up for the lack of amenities. And also, who cares if the rooms don't have a tv? The balconies have an incredible view and the sound of the river near by to entertain you. (However a fridge would have been nice. (though, to address the reviews stating there is no ice, they simply don't allow guests to access it themselves. If you ask or call they desk they'll have it sent to your room. I personally thought it was good forward thinking given the pandemic.)) Also, the food and service at the restaurant was wonderful. We had a late reservation and our server Louis insisted that we not feel rushed, and not to take our dessert to go (which we asked for so he could close up), and instead told us ghost stories and made us feel like friends he was happy to chat with rather than pesky guests over staying their visit. Overall it was a very pleasant stay, and I will definitely return!
elegant dining space, sunny by the window. good selection of interesting menu items.
It was okay. The restaurant and server Christian was the best part. The food is really tasty and the patio is nice. The room, on the other hand, was dingey and outdated, however, I hear they are renovating so I will look forward to seeing the improvements in the future.
Run down premises, uncomfortable rooms. We stayed in lodge room, only one electrical outlet in the room, it's located by the side of one of the beds, another bed has no lamp or place where to charge electronics. The room is not equipped with coffee machine, it's available upon request on first come first served basis, but impossible to use because there is no outlet to plug it in near the table where it stands. The room is gloomy and dark. The bathroom is huge, but has no counter space whatsoever. The sink has two separate faucets, cold and hot, and no plug, impossible even to wash hands in warm water, has to be done using either ice cold or scorching hot water. The location is awesome though, and it's the reason for ridiculous price, I guess.
Deer Lodge is an “experience” hotel, it has the old rustic style, with a kick of modernity, and a really cool history to add to this aesthetic and it really is beautiful. But where “experience” hotels succeed, there are also areas that get… less attention. The rooms for example, are lacking the price tag shine of 200$ a night. (A steal for this place I believe.) Rooms are quite small, but understandable for a building this age. Bathrooms are small, but again, understandable for the age of the building. Beds were a little low quality, and getting control of the temperature was a struggle, windows do not have any screens so getting cold air in felt difficult to do so it wasn’t the best experience there. But it’s an experience hotel so location makes up for that at least. Wifi was also spotty at times, but not too awful. Staff were amazing, and were extremely flexible and understanding, more so than the usual hotel staff, so that is definitely a huge plus. The staff here clearly love the building which is always an added plus. Overall, know what you’re buying, this isn’t luxury, but the views will make you forget the parts that aren’t too ideal.
The staff was okay, good place for social distancing. However the food was a joke, tasty but way over priced for what you're getting. For 40$ you can get half a steak and 3 carrots and a sad crusty sponge. You'd think a place down the road from a busy tourist site would accommodate to hungry visitors. The beer was gross and exspensive and the vodka soda was more soda then vodka. The best thing about the meal was the bug I inhaled. 10/10 would not recommend.
There's a huge line between charming and just downright antiquated, and Deer Lodge has crossed it. Our visit was met with unclean rooms that lacked basics like temperature controlled water, and clean linens. There's no A/C, so if you're feeling warm, you have to open the window to get a cool burst of mountain air--no complaints here. But in our original room, there were bugs dead and alive on the windowsill because of a gap between the wall and the window. We did contact the front desk who offered us another room, uttering the words, "it's an upgrade." The room we moved into is about 3m x 4m, so I must be missing the added value. I do appreciate their professionalism and the swift decision making to accommodate us. Now, some people may think, you're in the woods, its better than camping, but here me out. After driving from Jasper to Lake Louise and spending a few hours hiking, the last thing you want to deal with at bedtime is unclean rooms and more bugs. Besides that, if you're making a decision about where to stay for an important event, like a honeymoon or a getaway, heed warning. Overall, I think Deer Lodge that serves a National Park with more than five million visitors annually is overdue for an upgrade in guest services and renovations.
The food is off the chain good. Very surprised. The Irish host was extremely on point and some of the best service i have ever had. The bison elk burger was very good. The atmosphere is excellent and the service is even better. I had two dinners in one evening the food and scene was so good. I will definitely go back next time I am in lake louise.
My husband and I visited Deer Lodge for dinner and we were very satisfied. We ordered the rib-eye and the salmon, and both were excellent. We both loved the rustic atmosphere of the restaurant, and our server Alana was both very professional and personable. I would definitely recommend Deer Lodge and we will be coming again, and will be asking for Alana.
Beautiful place with a trademark hot bath tub especially in winters! Lovely Caribou lounge and amazing staff.. so friendly that you would love to come back. Just one star lesser because you should not choose standard room if you are with a partner as it is really small (which may not be a problem) but the noise passes through walls, ceilings and roof very very clearly and gets disturbing in the night (you got it if you are thinking of the same sounds and noises that i am hinting here ????). If you happen to still choose it, use the ear plugs!!!
What else would you ask for? Reasonable priced hotel room which is walking distance to one of the most popular Lake Louise.. The outside might look old, but for sure they have renovated the rooms so it is comfortable..
The room was quite charming and we enjoyed the vintage feel of our room. Was a little disappointed that there was no kettle or similar in the room. Would have only improved our stay. We loved the roof top hot tub. Definitely the highlight of our stay. We ate one dinner in the dining room and it was the best meal we ate all week. I'm still taking about it with everyone I know.
Staff went above an beyond to make our stay memorable. At dinner we forgot to mention a dairy allergy and the re-cooked the meal and brought an appetizer to tide my wife over until the food arrived. Ignore the negative reviews. Those people had unrealistic expectations.. Deer lodge will be a memorable stay.
