I decided to give Gizmo's a try after using various competitors in town over the years. Best computer decision I ever made. These guys took the guts of my custom PC and transferred it seamlessly into a new case and motherboard, even swapping out my old SSD drive. They did it quickly, they did it for an astonishingly low price and they were fair and straightforward with me the whole time. I strongly recommend Gizmo's Computers to anyone in the Greater Victoria area. Easy to find, lots of parking and centrally located. A not-so hidden gem of a shop! Yeah this place is the top shelf of the victoria options. Ive spent sad amounts of time in just about every computer/tech shop in victoria, and these guys are the best (my smarter friends agree as well, we all never hesitate to bring a sensitive task to gizmos, they won't screw it up) If needed I'll go to Soho which I also love, but Gizmos is more familiar to me. They're always SUPER patient and nice with answering my rookie questions. The labor costs are the cheapest (per job instead of per hour which other places don't mention usually). They're fast too! To top it off, during my recent visit they charged me for a certain hard drive but gave me a more expensive (and faster, more specialized to my work) hard drive (not saying you should expect this service always) which totallly moved me to write this review. Super good service, funny guys, v.e.r.y. reliable. Again, i would never worry about the them screwing up a certain fragile job/mod. It's because theyre pros. According to other pros.

Had a major issue with my PC , found a gentleman on Used Victoria after about an hour and told me he was confident he could fix the issue . So the following day he took time out of his day after he finished work to head over to my place via BC transit and fix my PC which took about 45 minutes . He proceeded to say it was free of charge and recommended Gizmos as he worked there part time . So if this is the type of staff Gizmos hires than they got to be some of the best genuine people . I did pay the gentleman as I could not let him leave without something . But what he did was phenomenal and every person I have spoken to has told me Gizmos is the best PC shop in lower Vancouver Island .

Please please do not go here for any repair.. brought my computer here last week because my computer froze.. they said they can handle it. They call me back 30 min later to tell me they cracked the glass on my monitor. I asked so what are we gonna do about it. They said it's not there fault and not responsible for breaking it. After that they said my computer is old anyways and it's better to just buy a new computer because my mother board is busted and its gonna cost me 500 bucks for a new one..checked on line and it's only $173 brand new. My computer is only a year and a half old....

They examined my computer, told me I didn't need the expensive repair I had in mind, solved the problem with a different, more permanent solution (which incidentally did themselves out of a $90 additional charge for labour), and cleaned the darn thing. Problem solved in fifteen minutes, for less than $60. You can't beat it. But guys, that website. Please, you deserve better. Wordpress; it's a thing.

I bought a computer used, I clarified that in not sure if it was what I needed, so they told me that "so long you don't overload it with a bunch of crap" that I wouldn't be charged their fee to wipe the machine when I brought it back. Was charged the $30 fee. The computer only cost $160 and I brought it back only a few days later with a single program on it. Not super happy because what they told me when I bought the computer conflicted with what they told me when I returned it.

I brought my computer in to them on my reading break from school (on the mainland) and paid $100 for them to restart my windows (making it so I have to redownlaod Microsoft office, chrome, and all of that) and for the problem to be STILL there. On top of that I only realized that they didn't bother to thoroughly fix my computer (& the problem THAT I TOLD THEM ABOUT) after I got back on the mainland & have no access to computer fixers anymore. So that was $100 down the drain and a complete waste of time. Would have gone anywhere else if I knew they wouldn't help & that my computer would still not be working when school started again. I didn't hold out much hope for getting my laptop to start charging again, but hoped I could at least salvage my hard drive. I stopped by Gizmos, without an appointment, and the young man immediately got to work on my laptop. A piece had broken off inside and the laptop was pretty much toast. Until the young man came up with a creative solution to give me a temporary fix by gluing the connector back on. It was chancy but it worked. Both staff were approachable and friendly. The fellow fixing my computer explained what happened in a way that I could understand. I really appreciated that. And demonstrating their integrity - they only charged me a nominal amount because ,as the fix was temporary, he couldn't guaranty the it. Temporary or not, it's a great fix and I'm thrilled. My experience at this store was beyond my expectations. They really knew their stuff and were more than reasonable in their price!!! And so quick - he fixed it while I waited! When this temporary fix breaks down, I'll be back to Gizmos to buy one of their rebuilt laptops. I can't go wrong.

Impressively fast and simple. My hard drive died in the middle of a project. As soon as I described the problem on the phone Kelly told me it would be one of two issues and gave me a flat rate quote for each. The other two stores I called refused to even give me a ballpark figure, saying it could range from $50-$500.. I brought the laptop in and within an hour Kelly phoned to tell me what the issue was. He ported over the pertinent info/docs to an external hard drive so that I could complete my project, free of charge! The next day I got my laptop back with a brand new (bigger!) hard drive, complete with all of my recovered data. Thanks guys!

My laptop was on it's way out, and I rushed in to Gizmo's to salvage my data. Jeff quickly diagnosed my failing hard drive and gave me a few options to save my work. I chose to install a new SSD and he was able to transfer all my data to the new drive. All within 24 hours!! Really disappointing experience here. I took my laptop in because it was sometimes shutting down randomly or refusing to start, usually after moving it or picking it up. They called me back the next day and said they had checked it out and re-seated the hardware, so it should be fine now. I picked it up and they charged me $100 for the work. Then they tried to tell me I didn't leave them my AC charger (I did). The guy argued with me for a while and actually tried to sell me a used charger for $20. Finally he let me take a charger (not my original one) and told me the 30-day warranty on the labour was void. At this point there's no way I'd consider bringing anything back to them anyway. I got home, and 1) the plastic casing was not properly clipped back on, 2) all of the casing screws were loose, and 3) the original problem was not diagnosed nor fixed, as my computer has continued to randomly shut down. It was a waste of money, time and energy going to these guys.

Went this store to repair and find out a problem on my laptop. I actually went Bestbuy 1st, but they didn't find out my problem and suggested to return my brand new one even it's purchased just 2 wks ago cuz they assumed there must be a hardware problem. After that I tried to resolve this problem for the last and visited Compugen. Surprisingly they fixed in a minute and it's working very well So appreciated them and recommend this place for everyone when you have a problem with your devices

I got my laptop fixed , they reformatted it then I had same issue then was told it needed a new hard drive which they were great about they did not charge additional fee for replacing hard drive only added the cost of the drive not added labor cost. I had to take it back for several reasons over several visits all because it continued having issues from the original problem. It has never actually been restored to a completely workable laptop that doesn't blue screen on me as of yet but I have not taken it back because I have given up on using them,

I had a problem with an external hard drive. I walked into a “street entry computer repair shop” in downtown Victoria and told the ‘salesperson’ I had a problem. He asked me if it made any noise. I did my best imitation of ‘click, click’. His response was too bad, so sad we can’t help you. Might as well throw it away. I happened to mention my problem to one of my friends who told me of his hard drive problem being fixed at Gizmo’s in Langford. I then decided to drop into the Gizmo store at Blanshard Centre, told my tale of woe and rather than say ‘too bad, so sad’ the counter person plugged it in, confirmed it wasn’t working, disassembled it [to the point of no return] and using some other wiring & connections made it come alive. I left my old drive with them and returned a couple of hours later and not only did he have a new drive with all my data on it, he gave me back my old drive as a backup in case I needed it in the future. I highly recommend Gizmo for any work you need done. They have become my place of first choice for computer repair. Jim

Brought a Desktop PC in that would turn on, but would show no signal on my monitor. After 5 minutes, I was told that my motherboard is gone and to buy a new computer. It seemed rather quick for a diagnosis. When I arrived home, I noticed none of the screws were put back that hold my video card and door to the desktop in place as well. After a google search, I tried resetting my CMOS and re-seating each of the main components in the PC. Viola, my PC works and going strong! I'm sure these guys are great, but unfortunately for my experience it was rather disappointing.

These guys fixed my laptop, and seemed genuinely embarrassed when the part they ordered arrived damaged (they ordered another which arrived shortly). In addition, when I was retrieving my laptop, they gave me a new charger when they couldn't find the one I brought in (I believe 99% I brought in a charger, but I think they felt the same way that I didn't bring one in). Gizmos is very professional and helpful. I had a problem where my HDMI port was not working on my computer so I took it to Mothers Computers... big mistake. I told them the problem I was having, It cost me $70 just for them to run some stress programs on my computer, completely ignoring the actual problem, they then handed it back to me saying everything was good to go which was BS. They also left these files on my computer when I got it back. They were completely incompetent and lazy. I know a lot about computers but my weakness is the BIOS (boot system). My system was bricked by a Windows update and because it is a solid state drive I couldn’t start in safe mode because it executed the loop created by the Windows update too fast. After much flailing I had altered the BIOS in such a way that little could be done any more. I got myself into a corner. So we went to Gizmos and they took care of it. They were super patient with some complications (like losing the BIOS password), etc. and they STILL got everything working again flawlessly in a couple of hours. Really, it was unbelievable. You’ll like these guys!

Laptop off this guy's for about 250 and it stopped working 32 days after I purchased it. I called to see if they would repair it and then told me that they would not. My feeling is if they're selling computers which breakdown in 32 days then it's defective. When I was in several times looking at the computers before my purchase I was privy to a lot of their nonsense and how they talk to customers a lot of what they say to answer customers questions on the phone and in person is always geared to justifying their ridiculous bills. Unfortunately people in Victoria so polite they don't challenge being ripped off. You can go get a refurbished computer from Best Buy or Staples or Walmart for the same price that the guys are selling theirs and then you won't have to worry is that if it is defective you can return it with no questions asked. It amazes me that these guys have been around for 20 years their modus operandi is they think that say can be awfully polite, do whatever they can to make an extra buck somehow convinced people don't know any better that there vital, when the truth is they're out of shape ugly guys whose days are numbered as computer repairers and sellers of dodgy computer equipment. Update to the reply I assure you with several University degrees I'm not confused about who I'm dealing with I bought a laptop from you, called you after it stop working 32 days later and you told me I was out of luck. So everything I've said above stands. With regards to selling dodgy equipment the whole point of the review is not to buy from you because you sell dodgy equipment and people would be better off buying from other places. Also you reminded me of what I did mentioned above what you try to get people to do as you did with me is to sign a waiver at point of purchase. And that quintessential practice you've used two so-called protect yourself over the years won't work anymore after we are done with you.

I waited 3 weeks for the repair on my computer ( as I was told it would be) They had to order a special part and when it was "fixed" I was charged $250 (also as I was told and agreed to) It worked great for 1 day and then it quit and started smoking. I brought it back, I was told it was not the work that they did. The "computer expert" did not even bother or offer to check it out! Goodbye $250,Thanks for nothing Gismos, Don't bother with this fly by night operation!!

Update: Still impressed, my fan came in, I dropped it off and they swapped out the hard drive while replacing the fan, cloned the hard drive so it is exactly the same. One day turn around, computer performs like new for 270 taxes in. Just a good customer experience. Came in with a laptop problem, they addressed a faulty fan by blowing it out and recommended that I order the part myself if the problem persisted needed and they would do the work . They tested my hard drive, told me that it will eventually fail but no real rush. And they didn't charge me a dime.

They did a good job finding the problem quickly and repairing the computer, but they downloaded a different version of OS then I had previously which I did not prefer and did acknowledge beforehand. They also downloaded AVAST (virus protection software) which is not very useful. You are much better off just using Windows Defender, the virus protection software that comes with windows operating systems.
