I cannot say enough good things about David & Iris at On the Spot Computer Repairs! Go to them first before giving big chains your business. I spilled beer on my laptop (MacBook Air), and took it in to the Apple store. The "Geniuses" at the Apple store said nothing could be done for my computer and that I would have to pay around $800 to repair my it. And that was without guaranteeing that they could recover my information. And they tried to up sell me on a new MacBook Air computer that cost the same as the repair. After refusing to buy a new computer, I decided not to give up on my MacBook Air and started to look around for reputable computer repair stores in the area. After reading the reviews on On The Spot Computer Repairs I decided to give them a shot. David (The Owner) is the coolest guy I ever met. He explained to me the details of the inspection, repair, and pointed out the risk that might occur when dealing with liquids inside computers. After he explained the details, I felt super comfortable letting David work on my Mac. David cleaned as much as he could of the liquid and replaced the battery that got fried and HALLELUJAH!!! my computer started back up and I DID NOT lose any of my information! With labor and a new battery my cost was much less than at the Apple Store. And David never tried to up sell me. THANK YOU DAVID & IRIS.

I applied for a make your own computer service or whatever and put in every part that I know for a fact work together, and not only did they never respond unlike what they said on their website (24-48 hours) I sent it twice with no response. VERY BAD SERVICE

I had a very old MacBook Pro laptop whose logic board gave up one fine day. I had gone to the Apple Service center and they couldn't help me out in recovering the data. But I went here and Iris was very informative and hospitable. She assured me that it can get recovered even though I had tried reinstalling the OS on the laptop which could potentially cause data loss. She and David explained how they recovered my data and gave it to me on a separate hard drive. They did not charge me extra for the hard drive and their price are very reasonable. I cannot thank them enough for saving my time and data :)

Didn't even get anything fixed but still got great service. There was a problem with my hard drive and I went in to see if it was fixable. It was an old computer and I had a new one coming in a couple weeks so was going to see if this was an easy fix because I didn't want to invest too much money into a computer I needed for such a short time. They could have charged me for a diagnostic test only to tell me I needed a new hard drive but they understood my situation so they game me an estimate based on what I told them happened and recommended I just get a rental until my new one comes. Very friendly and understanding. If I ever need a repair I will be coming here!

As a potential customer coming over the first time, I would expect that a new shop (and definitely not a premium shop) would understand the market. Thus my experience here was negative since the shop did not address my issues, which was their pricing. I came here to get some work done on my computer. Disregarding the fact that the operation is out of a second floor apartment, the labor prices are extreme. The work needed to be done on my computer should take not more than 30 minutes AT MOST. On the Spot quote = $120 @ 4-5 hour wait time Microcenter = $80 @ 2-3 day wait time Professional Geeks = $75 @ 1 hour wait time Needless to say, I chose one of the other Cambridge options. It's important to make sure customers know when a place is excessively charging. $120 excluding parts is a RIDICULOUS rate.

In short, I can't really think of any way my experiences at On The Spot could've been better. What sticks out is their (genuine) friendliness and of course the effectiveness of their work. I brought in a Dell laptop that wouldn't turn on and an MacBook that was excruciatingly slow. As a computer novice, I was essentially at the mercy of their advice. In both case, the solutions that OTS found exceeded my expectations both in terms of effectiveness (the computers are as fast if not faster than ever) and cost. Highly recommended.

Very professional, personalized and most ethical repair shop! Iris and David did their best to help us with my daughters laptop which unfortunately got horribly liquid-damaged. They were so good at setting expectations and keeping me posted on what they learned as they did their troubleshooting. Turns out the laptop was too far gone that it was not cost-effective worth repairing/replacing internal components e.g. mother board. Will definitely come back to this shop and highly recommend all to check them out!

I brought my old custom built PC in to On The Spot about two weeks ago for a clean up to get it ready to sell. The staff was professional, polite, and clearly very knowledgable. The owner cleaned up my computer to a like-new state, and also went out of his way to rewire all my cables through the back of the case and make other improvements to it as well to make it look and function better than it ever has. And he did all of this in under an hour! They did a phenomenal job getting my old MacBook running smoothly again. It was really slow and it was painful to use. I didn't have the funds to go out a buy a new MacBook and didn't think it was possible to fix mine. I brought it in to at least get my important stuff off it and expected the worst. David explained to me what would make my MacBook work faster and told me it was definitely workable. Excellent service - David and Iris are great! I had an issue with my Thinkpad overheating (at full CPU load, the temperature would shoot up to >95 degrees). I initially spoke to David over the phone, and he was very clear and patient in explaining the different possible causes of this issue. I brought it in to have them work on it, and they correctly diagnosed and solved the issue (the fan was clogged with dust). It now runs much cooler. While there was initially some confusion regarding the cost of service, they were very professional and courteous, giving me full benefit of the doubt. Specifically, I thought, based on a phone conversation, that I would be billed $65 ($45 diagnostic + $20 cleaning) but, in fact, they billed me for $90 ($45 diagnostic + $45 cleaning). When I inquired about this, they ended up only charging me the $45 for the initial diagnostic and gave me the cleaning for free. I was surprised and impressed by the generous way they handled this and would definitely go back there again!

Found out about On The Spot via Google. I had recently returned a custom game/work PC to the company that made it because it was dead on arrival. I discussed with David what I wanted, bought the parts I was particular about (Video card, motherboard, power supply) and left the rest to him. After the frustrating experience with another company, this was a walk in the park. After dropping off the parts, I had a working PC in a couple hours! I've been using it now for the past week and its great! Works flawlessly just like a new PC should! If you're interested in custom builds, but don't want to build it yourself, this place is perfect.

My monitor (pixels) on my laptop broke, probably from me accidentally sitting on it from one drunk evening! I called On The Spot Computers and I brought it in. I told them that I wasn't in a rush because I had a backup laptop. They turned it around in a week and I was very pleased that they were able to order the part quickly to fix my HP laptop. They had a reasonable labor price and my monitor cost me about $116 with taxes included. Prices may vary based on what type of monitor it is. Mine was just a simple, non-touch screen. I was really happy with their work. The next time I accidentally sit on my laptop, I'm definitely calling them to repair it! They are super friendly. I highly recommend them.

I don't usually write reviews but this one is worth it. Had the left hinge of my laptop broken and went to On The Spot to check what could be done about it. Iris was very friendly from the moment I walked in and Dave gave me the two options to have it fixed. It was about 4pm (they close at 5pm on Fridays), and we had agreed that I would bring it early in the morning in the following week, but before I left the store Dave suggested that he could manage to do it by that time and would be done in about an hour and there it was. Great service and reasonable fee. Keep it up, guys!!

I found out about On the Spot Computer Repairs by reading a bunch of stellar reviews of the business, and all of the 5-star reviews are definitely well-earned. My Dell laptop display started to have contrast problems to the point where I could barely see what was on the screen. I panicked because I'm a student and rely on the computer for research and classwork, and I brought it in to OTSCR expecting a grim, expensive prognosis. OTSCR is run out of the owner's house, but the place itself is very easy to find and is a short walk from Central Square. We talked about the problem and what was likely causing it (the converter box in the screen), and I kid you not, he literally started pressing the bottom of the screen and my display reverted back to normal. The man literally has the magic touch! Instead of charging me to replace the LCD screen, he showed me a viable workaround and even spent the time to show me videos of how to remove the bezel from the screen so that I can go in and play with the bad connection myself. He was incredibly nice, patient, and above all honest - other computer repair shops would have just charged me an arm and a leg to run diagnostics and replace the screen. He is a bona fide computer whisperer that is a godsend for poor grad students with computer problems in the area, and I am definitely going to recommend him to anybody I know having computer problems.

World's best computer repair place! I once took a desktop to the Geek Squad at Best Buy in Watertown, which made me pay shipping charges to their distant repair centre....which then returned it as unfixable! Then I brought it here....where they fixed it overnight, for a very nominal charge! A few years later, they replaced my now-old-fashioned desktop hard drive with the faster 'solid-state' (rather than disk-spinning) type. That small investment has greatly increased both speed and reliability (since there are no moving parts). There's a very pleasant atmosphoshere here, created by charming husband/wife owners, brimfull of integrity and happiness.

Not only did he recommend a workaround to the motherboard issue he went further by suggesting a different and more effective hard drive storage architecture based on a Solid State hard drive a layout that he has setup on one of his systems. Originally, I went to a big box store to see if they could diagnose the problem with my MSI laptop, but the technician was dismissive and he assumed that it was a motherboard failure. After doing some research, I found OTSCR and decided to get a second opinion here. From the get-go, Iris assured me that they would try and figure out what the issue was and give me a timely update. It's a two-person outfit, so they can get a bit swamped, and their hours are limited, but I found them friendly and competent and didn't get the impression that they were trying to squeeze as much money out of me as possible, the way a lot of computer repair places do.

When I tried to charge and turn it back on, I heard a scary sizzling sound :( Obviously, I assumed my laptop was done for, but a friend recommended On the Spot, and they ended up COMPLETELY fixing my laptop. David and Iris were incredibly pleasant and patient and they consistently called or emailed me with new information. They removed the damaged battery, installed a new one, and prevented the soda inside from corroding my computer. They even worked on my laptop when the store was supposed to be closed for the holidays! And when my Mac took a little longer than expected to fix, they took $30 off of my total. I got the impression they weren't trying to scam/rob their customers, but genuinely want to give you the best experience possible. I have gone to this company a few times, and was generally happy. But today, I got hung up on by the owner. That's not acceptable. I had called earlier last week about a replacement laptop battery. Spoke to his wife. I was assured I would get a call back. I did not. Today when I called again, while I was told he would reimburse me for the faulty battery, I was also told for the first time that it was only warranteed for 4 and 1/2 months. News to me. And with no receipt, little recourse. Surprise. I'm sure I can get this resolved. But hanging up on me for a legit call is unprofessional. I simply wanted to resolve something in good faith. While not exactly a true Luddite, I possess more than passing knowledge of their core beliefs. I sheepishly admit to owning a computer laptop, but no cellular phone, television, car, etc., so when my machine stopped functioning just prior to Thanksgiving, I decided to take it as a heavenly mandate, and do without.
