A "Big Thank You" to Mike and his crew at A Laptop Shoppe! These folks truly exceeded all my expectations and did so for a very reasonable price just as they said they would. I had huge registry problems and was stuck in safe mode with no way to back up and save anything to a flash drive or an external hard drive. I had lost my internet drivers and had no way to reconnect to the internet. I was looking at ten years of genealogy research being lost and truly felt it would be unlikely that anyone would be able to help me recover it all. I had tons of research at risk in the form of email clues gathered over the years, family pictures both old and new, copies of official birth, marriage and death certificates, newspaper articles, family journals, my favorites list with the sites that backed up facts related to my family history and my email contact list. I can honestly say I was broken. I sent out an S.O.S. and a very good friend of mine referred me to Mike. That referral is why I am posting this testimonial today. She was right; these folks are the best ! They recovered it ALL, reinstalled windows, all my programs and "Presto" just like magic I am totally in awe! Can't say enough good things about this place and the people who work there. I was referred to SOS Computer Services (A Laptop Repair Shoppe) by Kevin @ Alberta Toner. I called and spoke with Mike Chartrand, who was my 'go to' guy for my entire experience. I explained that I'd taken my computer in to another Calgary MAC repair place and had spent $150 only to take home a computer which no longer connected to my printer. The previous place told me I was basically out of luck. However, Mike and his staff did a quick analysis, quickly spotted the cause of my troubles, and just as quickly got me up and running, all for less than I'd spent at the previous place. All in all, a great experience. Good people and even better service.

I love my laptop, I use it every day, but over the years it started to overheat when I played almost ANYTHING on it, games, youtube videos, etc. I even bought a cooling fan for it, though it didn't help much. So I went to 'A Laptop Shoppe' and asked how long it would take for them to fix it, they told me it would be fixed by tomorrow surprisingly, they sent it in, had it fixed, and BAM! Just wanted to send a thank you note regarding the ASUS refurbished laptop I just purchased from A Laptop Shoppe. The hardware specs that I had demanded were implemented as requested and the Windows 10 O/S was properly installed and up-to-date. A few months ago, we cancelled our cable service preferring to stream on Roku and online apps. This was a leap of faith to change the way we normally watch news and entertainment. Now we no longer have to follow a schedule. We watch what we want when we want. Movies, podcasts, news articles were no trouble at all but trying to stream live events and sports was miserable. Keep in mind that not all streaming services are available on Roku so I had to stream some things through my laptop. Thought it was the internet bandwidth at first. Then I upgraded my laptop memory which made it faster but still didn't correct the live streaming problem. The last straw was when I tried to record some screencasting. Clearly my laptop was not configured for this kind of video management. So I checked in with Joel to see if a refurbished power laptop might be available. We reasoned through the hardware specs and I was fortunate that Laptop Shoppe had an ASUS with the hardware specs I needed. It did not disappoint! The ASUS does everything I need it to do and more. It live streams effortlessly - it records videos - and has horsepower to spare. The 1TB disk drive will take me a very long time to fill up. Thank you again and Happy Holidays!

Mike as a leader is very open minded to do also jobs that are not standard and utilizing his employees where some of them are older gentlemen doing technical stuff in the way of "old era" when things were being fixed instead of thrown away and you can see the tons of experience in their eyes. They fixed my $1200 laptop which had broken hinges on the screen. I thought it is totaled, even the Geeks from the Squad in the famous chain of electronic stores where you can Buy the Best told me there is no way to fix this. I also contracted them for some IT jobs and man, they work and the ability to keep the budget down is a kind of an art. Highly recommended!

The people at A Laptop Repair Shoppe are fast, friendly, and helpful. I had a broken shift key on my laptop. They ordered a new keyboard (about $80). When it arrived a couple of days later, they called and I scheduled an appointment for the keyboard to be installed. Immediately after the installation, we discovered a minor manufacturing flaw was causing problems with the "A" key. Because the only key I actually needed to replace was the shift key, the shop removed that key from the new keyboard, installed it into my old keyboard, and installed my old keyboard back onto my laptop. What did they charge me? Nothing! I won't forget this. A Laptop Repair Shoppe is my new go-to source for computer repairs!

I brought my Laptop in on a Tuesday, to get a Power port changed. The staff were very nice and I was quoted between $150-175 for the repair and was told it would be completed by that Thursday, which I emphasized on since I was leaving to do out of town work for TWO WEEKS and it would be my main source of communication with my family while I would be away working long days. So I asked the staff to contact me if any changes or delays were to happen.. Thursday came and no word, so I contacted the shop and I was told that my Laptop was still being repaired and that a technician would call me back. I was not told or made aware of any issues and was left wondering why it hadn't been fixed already. Over the next two days I got no call back, and when I called the shop, no one answered. I then had to contact the owner, to which I was told that it would not be fixed before I was scheduled to work outside of town.. So I then went two weeks working 11 hour days and no computer to stay in contact with my family. When my partner picked up the Laptop after it was finally fixed, she got home to realize that the Power port is working great.. but the Speakers were not plugged back in... So she had to bring it back in... So a few days pass.. and She goes and brings the laptop home for the second time.. Only to find that now the Network receiver isn't working! I contacted 'Mike' again where he tells me that everything should be fine and implies its an "Operator Error".. So I tell him I'll be at the shop first thing in the morning. I arrive at 9:00 am and the doors to the Shop are locked! I wait outside for 10 mins until his "employees" show up late for work with no excuses. I then get told three times that its a software issue..when I am fully aware it is not. After persistence, They recheck the connections and find that the wires ARE loose.. All in all, I had to bring my Laptop in three times.. Once to get fixed, and twice for them to fix their own mistakes. I was not told Sorry or apologized by the staff or by the owner, for THEIR OWN MISTAKES. I was charged $65 more than the original quote and when I asked why they hadn't contacted me with issues, they said "there was nothing written on the original form to contact".. so now my word means nothing? For a business owner who has more than two dozen books near the front of his shop, with tag lines all with the loose description of how to run a successful business, its clear he lacks the focus to run an efficient business that manages employee's in a timed manner or an adequate approach. I will not use their services again. I went to this Shop because of all the great reviews I read here on Google. What a disappointment.

Are you looking for someone to fix your computer but are worried about strangers fixing it. This was how I felt because I run a small business. I wanted the person fixing my computer to be honest, reliable and could do it in a day or two. My wife said there was guy from her church who could fix it. I was having blue screen of death issues and malware slowing the computer down . We called Laptop Repair Shoppe and set up a day they could come and get our computer and take it to their repair shop to be fixed. They had it a couple of days and when they returned it and installed I was blown away how fast and how well it runs. The service was excellent and professional and they helped us set up our new printers while they were here. I am going to get him to update our other computer in a couple of weeks as well. If you are worried about just anyone looking inside you computer then give these guys a call. They are licensed, insured and very honest .

Not impressed- I took my laptop to them for repairs as I could not get it to start even when plugged in overnight. I got a call back letting me know the adaptor was not working properly. I requested they go ahead with the repairs and was told they would check wiring in my laptop.I went in the next day to pick up my laptop. I brought my laptop home and 2 days later the laptop freezes when I opened 3 tabs on chrome while attempting to run another program on my laptop. I shut the computer off and upon starting it takes me to the Bios Screen which takes me a while to exit out off and get my laptop to work again.I get my computer to work about 2 more days and the same thing happens...this time I get a message that Windows is trying ro diagnose and fix my PC- I get a message that the computer cannot be fixed. I have had this laptop for 5 years and have never had any issues minus the adaptor. I bring a laptop that works fine to you and come back home to a laptop that will not function at all. I spent $175 for a power adaptor only to walk out with a broken laptop. I will not be coming back

I brought my laptop in because the screen was blinking and needed to be replaced. They told me that I had a custom screen and they would have to order it from China and it would cost $350.00. I didn't want to spend that much money to fix a 550 dollar laptop so I declined and did some research myself. Turns out this "custom screen" was available on amazon for $65.00. It was HD, touch, everything my old screen was and more! I had it in 4 days and watched a quick youtube video on how to replace it(super easy by the way) and within 15min my computer was as good as new! Moral of the story: It pays to do your homework. Don't let the "experts" con you out of your hard earned cash.

I have an old work laptop which I use in order to work remotely when away from the office. An issue occurred with the battery a week before I went to leave out of town. I purchased a new battery myself and tried to fix it, but still had no luck. I phoned around and decided to bring the laptop to A Laptop Shoppe because they seemed knowledgable and told me they would only charge for a diagnosis if it wasn't something easily fixed. I took in my laptop which had fallen on the floor and unfortunately was no longer working. The staff took it to the back, made some adjustments, and returned the laptop to me in working condition in under 5 minutes. Not to mention-they did not charge me!! This is unheard of nowadays; I believe any other laptop shop would have, at bare minimum, charged me a consulting fee. Instead, I was met with patience (as they kindly described to me, someone not so tech-savvy, what the issues were), generosity, and respect. Went into the Laptop Repair Shoppe with a laptop that had spilt liquid damage from several days earlier. Was received promptly and professionally by Joan (after an earlier chat with owner Mike Chartrand over the phone). Post diagnostics, Joan called me up and explained in great detail the options for repair. Treated me as if I were a corporate customer. Everything was very reasonable. Mike had previously mentioned that another option might be to look at some lease back laptops. He came up with an used HP Probook MT41 option with 8GB Memory and 250 GB SSD at very reasonable price that will meet all my personal home use needs. I have plenty of other laptop computing power for work related needs. And they offered a very reasonable trade-in allowance on my ACER that had a Nvidia GPU and a larger screen. Laptop Repair Shoppe installed and Activated my MS Office for me, and even gave me a DP to HDMI connector. And I am set. Posting this review as I think that very few businesses today truly walk the talk. Their service, promptness, value and professionalism wowed me. I am positive that any business or individual consumer client will be thrilled by Mike and his team. In my experience, there is nothing better than cultivating great business and service relationships in one's own backyard instead of dealing with people and businesses that you never meet with. ps: Laptop Repair Shoppe's proposed repair option on my liquids damaged Acer was also very reasonable, but I liked the idea of exchanging it for a more robust HP machine (even if it is older, and with smaller screen than the 17" Acer) as it will be a better companion for personal travel, when it's best not to risk carrying workplace laptops. Mike, thank you for presenting a great solution. There is peace of mind in automotive matters when one has a trusted garage on speed call, similarly, for computer matters, I am glad to be able to add Laptop Repair Shoppe to my list of trusted service providers in Calgary. Next time, I have a computer problem, I won't sweat it :).

My desktop computer with all my research files was forcefully updated to Windows 10 which failed to load properly and put computer out of action (would not boot up). My neighbour recommended contacting Mike Chartrand at A Laptop Shoppe to sort out the problem. I contacted Mike who set up a house call for the following day. Mike reassured me that he could sort things out and took the computer to his shop. Whilst on the call he also cleaned up my laptop making it more efficient. Two days later my desktop was delivered back to the house fully restored and functional, even though the fix was somewhat involved and needed some expert innovation to find the solution. Couldn't be happier with my experience here. Mike spoke to my husband and me for a long time to determine our needs and help us choose the best refurbished laptop for us.
