PLEASE READ. Serious issues! Don't send your kids here if you actually care about them!
I went here a few years ago. This place needs some serious changes.
Issue #1: The IT department is rediculous. All of your student log in and password info is stored in PLAIN TEXT on an Excel sheet. It is not encrypted in any way shape or form. The librarian literally opened the sheet in front of us by accident. This is a serious security issue.
Issue #2: While I was at the school, a computer monitoring system known as "LANSchool" was used. This is simplying a terrible system. Anyone can find an admin copy of the software on the internet for free if they want it, and they can get full access to this system. This means that ANYONE can easily access a software that is on every single school computer which has: keylogging, remote monitoring, internet history, etc. I know many of you might not understand what this means, so I'll put it in simpler terms: anyone can see your passwords and anything you type on a school computer (which includes credit card info if you decided to purchase something online). This is a serious risk for everyone that goes to this school, and it's a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Issue #3: The teachers that teach IT classes do not know anything about computers. In my IT classes, we were told to learn from online websites such as W3Schools. The teacher just sat there every class dead silent while we had to figure things out for ourselves. I thought teachers were supposed to actually teach?
Issue #4: Money is not spent very well. Again, I'm going to pick on the IT department here. Thousands of dollars were spend on drones and iPads that no one use. What a terrible waste of the school's resources.
Issue #5: Ok, let's step away from the IT department now. This school has a drug problem. It's not uncommon to see kids vaping in the bathrooms or smoking cigs at the pit. There is also a ton of weed and drinking. The staff is well aware of this, but they don't do much about it.
Issue #6: The people in charge do not care about you. I have always tried my best to make this school a better place for the students, but time and time again my ideas were put down. I have literally been told by staff that the opinions of students do not matter, and what matters to them is what the parents think of the school. This is a good transition to the next issue.
Issue #7: It seems like everyone in this school has depression or some sort of mental health issues. It's really not surprising when the staff doesn't care about the students because they believe the opinions of parents are more important. This issue might also be because this school has zero school spirit. Other schools have tons of community engagement and students are proud to be a part of the school. No one is really proud to be a Sentinel student because there isn't much to be proud of.
TL;DR the school has some serious security issues with their computers. Students should change their school login passwords asap, and be very careful about what they type on the computers. The school spends money very poorly, the IT teachers don't know anything about IT (which is a huge issue considering IT is a massive industry with tons of career opportunity and lots of money), the higher-ups don't care about students at all, there are issues with vaping and drug use, and half the students are depressed out of their minds.
