This place was the best part of grad school for me. A wonderful community that promotes scholarship and public service, and can have poke fun at the pomp and circumstance of the traditions we have. Wish more people knew about it.

Terrible they don’t answer their phones and don’t let you view the building. Waste of time bothering to visit. Terrible customer service as well with no consideration!

Massey College is a graduate students’ residential community affiliated with, but independent from, the University of Toronto. The College offers much more than a residence; it provides a unique, congenial and intellectual environment for graduate students of distinguished ability in all disciplines to share in a rich and stimulating community

Until today's experience I would have given this place a 5 star review but not so much now. I have worked at U of T for 6 years now and on occassion have dropped by Massey to quietly enjoy my breakfast or lunch in their peaceful courtyard. Instead today some busy body scrooge porter told me that I wasn't allowed to unless I was part of Massey college and specifically highlighted that they are independent of U of T. I have been to their library numerous times and visited the printing press a few times over the years. I have even recommended visitors to U of T to visit Massey but not anymore. If you don't want people from the U of T community coming to explored and enjoy your peaceful courtyard then close your medieval iron gates and force everybody to ring a doorbell to be let in. Shameful that you are nitpicking who can enjoy the space and who can not. Must be under new management.

I was a resident in the 1970s, when Robertson Davies was master. It was a wonderful and transformative experience for me -- so many bright young scholars with such wide intellectual interests. An architecturally beautiful space imbued with a joyful spirit of learning and debate -- the dining hall frieze quoted George Santayana: "You must have taken the measure of your powers, tasted the fruits of your passion ... To be happy, you must be wise." Robertson Davies' flair for the dramatic always made "high table" stimulating and fun.
