I'm entering my last semester before graduation. While academically I havent had too many issues, I attribute it primarily to the fact I go over and over everything several times, and always, ALWAYS apply for financial aid early! If you wait, chances are you wont have it in time for the semester. The academic advisors are essentially useless. If you know what you want (just an associates or certificate, or transfer to a 4-year) then research the exact degree requirements. If you don't do it, no one will help you and you'll end up a perma-student trying to get everything you need. As for academics, it is up to YOU to make sure your stuff is in order, that you are attending class and doing the work, because neither the professors or your classmates will do it for you. DCC is not a bad college, but you have to put in the effort. The faculty literally will not...do your research for everything and always have more information than required when dealing with advisors or office staff.

Very helpful with helping you sort out things you need to help you with application, financial aid, and other general questions you have. If you have more specific questions, they'll direct you to a person who can help you out more in depth.

Worst school ever. Ever! Don't waste your time thinking this will be a convinient community college-it's anything but. Also not military friendly, at all. Will happily collect military money but if you go on orders they won't give you an incomplete and they won't work with you in any way. Both of the VA counsellors say "don't take classes that semester if you think it's a possibility for you to go on orders". In addition to all of this, all of the administration is trash. You can tell that there is clearly no training. No one knows what they are doing. Financial aid is regularly disbursed weeks/months into class start date. How are you supposed to pay for high priced books?

I'm not saying the school is horrible, its not. I'm not going to lie and say it couldn't use some improvement. The teachers at this school range from some being excellence and some being rude mannered and impolite. Despite maybe the best effort, having faculty that treats the students in a rude manner is unacceptable. Considering the students are the on that pay for their tuition which may also go towards the teacher's salaries, I find it necessary for some of the faculty to work on just being more humane(for lack of a better word).

I’m in the process of registering here, but when I asked a question via email, I was told to fill out a form and email it back to a given address. I did exactly what I was told and the person who received my email completely disregarded the form I filled out and told me to come in person. I went there today and the person who I was supposed to see wasn’t there so I was told I’ll get a call telling me when to come back. One of the ladies there was so confused, like it was her first day working there. I took the initiative in sending all the information they asked for. Do they want me to stand over their shoulder and make them do their job? Classic New Orleans bureaucratic incompetence.

Delgado Community College offers a big variety of classes and programs. They also have alot of awesome instructors. The issue I have is with the administrator's. It's like pulling teeth and nails trying to get paperwork to them. The communication and customer service skills are the worst. It's always difficult getting in touch with someone over the phone. You can speak with someone in person but again, the customer service skills are awful and you might have to wait there for hours. I'm currently having issues with the Accounts Receivable Department. Andrea Gibbs seems very sweet when I spoke to her on the phone, but she refuses to process my AmeriCorps educational award! It's very frustrating and preventing me from registering for future classes. I've been trying to fix this issue for months and still no resolution. I've been very patient and have no choice but to report this to the BOE.

Though I know the school has its hidden gems, it is hard for anyone to see it if you cant get pass the admissions dept/financial aid--who is testing the staff, because it is obvious they do not know what they are doing--upon their own laziness they sign full time students up for part time status, and refuse to fix things when THEY break them...what school is OK with Losing a student? DELGADO- the admissions/financial aid STAFF-they don't give a Damn at the end of the day...they should consider registering for classes to be educated on their jobs.

alana

The teachers are great. The only problem is the financial aid office. It feels like they hired students to work in there. Also, no one answers the phone when you call them. Fall 2016 will start my 3rd year attending here.

I have been attending this good old place for wayyy too long now. They have the worst administrative staff, and not one person in the administrative process can properly assist you with anything. Do not depend on these people to tell you what you need to graduate because they will never be correct I promise you. They will come up with many ways to steal your money, screw you over, and leave you stuck in that hell-hole forever. The only person you can depend on is yourself. You have to use your own two eyes, understanding, and reading skills. Because the staff here doesn't have the sense of a two year old. If I could give this place zero stars because of their incapability to improve the school enrollment, and exit process I would. Leave it to Beaver and pick another school.

I really love this school, except the math department. They don’t really cater to the working class the only time you can take the math exam is during the week and the hours are very limited if you work a 9-5, no at home exam which I think is stupid since some of us are taking online class for a reason (we work M-F). If your late to an exam it’s a big issue. Everything with the math department has been a problem for me. Even the rude receptionist. My suggestion and what I’m doing is finishing up at another college that’s more accommodating to a workers schedule.

Terrible service, hidden fees. They charged me 22.50+ take midterms(apparently not included in tuition ), some of the publisher websites for homework cost extra money(100$ extra), online classes are basically readbook do problems in book, my registration did not clear till a week+ in and did not know tba means immediate start for some classes, and ugh. Just do not go to this outhouse. the only good part is the 3 teachers that i talked to were good.

I changed my major to Phlebotomy and had the worst experience (pre-pandemic). I was pretty much a straight A student. Did really really good in class. Then come the clinical and it went down hill fast (was sick first day then got yelled at second day due to me being a student and my speech impediment) Hopstial kicked me out Delgado made me drop- “saftey hazard to patients” I went home because I was really sick . School told me I owed no money. A year and half later got a letter said I owed $800 and was extremely late. Don’t go here.

Catina Piper

THE WORST EXPERIANCE I HAVE EVER HAD TRYING TO PICK MY CLASSES, and I have deployed twice. On top off that the staff is worst than Walmart, they won't tell you we're to go or what you need. They will send you from building to building without telling you what to do or what you need. You will have 0 help to guide you through this amazing inhuman runaround. And no one here seems to care at all about the students. THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY.

I have only come for special events and have never taken a class here. But the buildings seem nice, people seem friendly enough.

To think its actually somewhat improved in the enrollment process since the early 90's.. the facility leaves so much to be desired my ELET instructor is the only member of the faculty that DEMANDS you learn.. and I do. but with other instructors that are openly hatefully, racist, and for some reason (no matter how many people go to the Dean to report her horrid attitude towards those that ask questions), the school will not find a replacement. Don't get me started about Security and their inability to GET OUT OF THE CARTS (unless they are flirting with the female students) they so happily drive on the walking path making me have to step in a puddle to continue (several times). I'm a returning student.. and I have no idea where to find the person to talk too about the remaining classes I need to take.. all of the faculty seems to be hiding someplace away from the students.

A Stevens

This school is horrible. The financial aid staff is inept. I ended up having to drop my classes at midterm because my loans still hadn't been processed and I was't able to get my books for class. The enrollment run around should have been a clue. Stood in line for days just to get enrolled in the first place. If you want to be agitated and frustrated, this is the school to choose.

Sherell Moneak

Crappy college! This school will suck the crap out of ur money. I paid thousand $ for tuition fee but the services and the facilities are horrible. There are so many broken fountains water that have never been fixed. Parking lot is super small but they charge $50 for it. Additional charge fee will added into ur bank account if you pay classes by card. Moreover, pay 12$ for an official transcript. My previous school gave it for free for 3 copies. Dont study here unless you want to get broke before graduate.

I graduated in 2014. My experience at this school was great. The teachers care and the campus is nice. They offer a lot of classes for pretty much any subject. Plenty of places to study outside on a nice day or have lunch. Also they have a nice selection at their library.

Their financial aid office is absolutely HORRIBLE! I was first approved for aid that I apparently don't qualify for. Once approved, it later disappeared, and I was never notified that I wasn't qualified for it. After learning my classes weren't secured, I only was able to get in touch with the financial aid office through their live chat online, and I'd been trying to get in touch via email and phone for days beforehand. They do not answer phone calls or emails, which I find extremely unprofessional. After finally getting in touch with them, I learn I qualify for a different financial aid package, approve it, then it disappears again. Turns out, Im not qualified for that either and was again never notified. If you have to deal with their financial aid office, good luck!

Jalen Duplessis

If you are here as a visitor stay in/near your car. You will receive $35 parking ticket and have only 10 days to appeal and must wait 30 days for response. The only upside is City Park is across the street but be cautious if you have excessive tickets and park along the street. Some vehicles have boots on the tires.

Laura Holly (Kissalude)

I have lived in New Orleans for 16 years and decided to go back to school at age 38 and do not regret it one bit. I really enjoyed going to Delgado and found the teachers do range from great to horrible; but so do the teachers at any school. Also, since the enrollment has grown 150% since Katrina, you can expect there to be some waiting for services (i.e. finical, enrollment, etc.). However, I would still not trade the experience of getting my degree there. I would definitely recommend Delgado Community College (City Park campus)

Delgado is a roller coaster. One day, you’re in the office for hours and still nothing gets done, and the next day you’ve graduated and you’re life is better. The prices are ridiculous, the staff is terrible and undersized and the classes are very underfunded for what they charge. But the campus is pretty and conveniently located across from City Park. Overall, I dislike the school more than I liked it.

I love the school and everything, but there are teachers who don't deserve to be here, just like vernell Briscoe, always making excuses to not show up to work, she have been abstent 60% of the class and is almost midterm, I have to Google my class because I don't have a teacher, also she's rude and she gets mad and treat you like stupid when you ask a question.... I work my *** trying to pay for my school and I guess that I'm just giving her free money for not doing anything...

I would like to start by saying that I have absolutely no interest in pursuing education at this school, but that did not stop them from charging me $25.00 simply because I inquired about it! This was 2013. Flash forward to 2016, and I have completely FINISHED my education. They, however, said that I owe fees and registered for classes for the Jan 2016 semester.-Impossible since I've already finished with another school. I called this school several times a day for a week before finally getting someone to actually answer the phone. After being on hold for 20 minutes, after being transferred to 3 separate departments, the consensus was, "They don't fix fees, so you'll have to pay it or it will go to the attorney generals office". I was FORCED to pay this fee since I am wary about what goes on my credit. The business office was so rude. If they will rip off a "potential" student, imagine what they do to current students. I would NEVER recommend this school. There are much better options out there. Shame on you, Delgado.

The faculty and staff are rude and extremely incompetent. I've dealt with so many department errors in my short time here and I'm extremely frustrated with everyone's ineptitude. When you try to resolve issues that are cause by Delgado's incompetence, the faculty and staff refuse to help and act like you are causing a massive inconvenience to them because you want their errors corrected. I've attended several higher education institutions and I've never dealt with one so unprofessional.

Casey Groves

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS COLLEGE! THE PROFESSOR ARE BAD AND BARELY RESPOND THIS YOUR EMAILS AND FAIL YOU! AND THE STAFF IS JUST HORRIBLE AND NEVER PICK UP THERE PHONES! PLEASE GO TO A BETTER SCHOOL THAN THIS ! YOU WON"T LEARN ANYTHING HERE!!!

This place offers affordable classes, some of which are hard to come by with any other local establishment. They also offer a good selection of online or web classes, which helps. This is about all the good from here. The administrative staff are mostly terrible. By and large they do no seem to care at all about student problems unless they personally know the student. Getting a phone answered, and answered by the correct person takes an act of congress. Going to the administration building to fix your problem is a matter of being issued an automated ticket, going to the wrong line because the ticket prompt was not specific, having to get another ticket, waiting and repeating for several hours until you figure out the algorithm. This process is terrible, to the point I knew exactly who I needed to talk to as I was directed to this person BY NAME from a DEAN of another section and denied direct access without the ticket from the machine. The Allied Health department and building have been, despite all other shortcomings of DCC, awesome and do a great job for what they are given.

geosutube

I have had the most horrible experience with Delgado. The only reason they got one star is because I couldn't give them a negative 92. I registered as a first time student with Delgado for the Summer 2016 semester. Since I began the registration process since May (2 months ago) I've been to that campus at least 30 times and have made an upwards of 15 phone calls all to catch mistakes that Delgado has made. The admissions office is a mess, the financial aid office should fire everyone, restructure and start and all over, my academic advisor has ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE what she's doing. How is she going to advise me? And not to mention we're coming up on the closing of the Summer semester and I still haven't received my financial aid. Will be filing a formal complaint and looking into a new school ASAP. All the horror stories you hear are true.

Kadin Robichaux

Great place for learning. Often overlooked. Nursing, Allied Health ect. I highly recommend this school. Excellent price. Preparing you for a solid career.

Kimberly Wieneke

You can get a good education depending on which class, professor, and director. Unfortunately, the staff have a tendency to be unorganized and unprofessional when it comes to admissions, advising, and financial aid. I've had several issues with classes being dropped which negatively affected my financial aid, due to mistakes after being told everything was in order. Communication is poor to nonexistent, during registration unless you visit in person. They do not return calls or emails during this time. However, you definitely get more efficient service if you visit in person and speak with department heads. The more experienced the staff member is that is handling your files and documents, the more helpful and efficient they are. Basically it depends on who personally provides your service.

Connie Fry

Good place ,good teachers beautiful place

Wakisha Washington

I'm an alumni and I must say Delgado will always have a soft spot in my heart. I strongly recommend them!

Lauren Faucheux

The professors are great and always have been really helpful in areas that I struggle in. Aside from that, the administrative staff and dean have been nothing short of disrespectful and condescending when I approach them with questions. Also, it seems like when you go from department to department, everyone has different answers for the same simple questions. It is extremely frustrating to wait hours in line to only deal with bad attitudes from the staff and virtually no help to begin with. They need to hire better staff or better train the current staff because they're a nightmare to deal with.

Natalie Valentin

Good everything

Marcio Coronho

The admission’s staff concerns me at this school. Each time I speak to someone I have to prepare myself to not be helped and that’s not easy. It’s such a dread to go to admissions. I was never apologized to for not receiving my degree. I was told weeks ago that I would get it by the end of that week. Is that the school’s fault? No, it’s not but when I am asking for help and the staff is so defensive, it makes you feel bad to ask about the necessary steps to solve the issue. The staff is unapproachable and not easy to talk to. I’ve had great teachers here but I have had forms lost and now dealing with attitudes because I’m only trying to get my degree that I’ve worked very hard for.

Shirley Bibbins

There are good professors but every single person in the Financial aid office I’ve talked to is so rude and gives so much attitude. I just stay calm and collected but I’ve cried so many times after phone calls. They really don’t want to help at all. Every office there I’ve had to go to has just had rude people. Don’t go to Delgado, like any location.

Tanvir Inam

Had a wonderful experience today.

Delgado used to be a trade school, one of the few in the area, mainly for boys and men, it has become a community college. When I attended in the early 70’s its instruction in most trades and crafts was thorough and efficient. As far as I know, Delgado in the beginning never pretended to any academic criteria, but now that it has become part of a larger educational movement, it must improve its performance. It is, apparently, a good starter college. When I was growing up in New Orleans back in the Fifties, it was where young men needing training in the industrial arts and sciences would go for their high school education.

Christopher Martin

Zachary Ledet

I have been a student here for 2 years and I have no idea how they have any students. No matter how early you submit financial aid they process at the last minute. At least twice I have had to contact the department of education to explain changes on my student aid that they could not justify or explain. As of today it has been 1 solid month trying to get someone on the phone to ask questions about my financial aid which has been submitted 2 months ago but still not processed. When you do manage to get someone on the phone they are rude and often give conflicting information from one department to the next. The excuse is always that they are swamped with calls, which to me is an invalid excuse! If that many calls coming in they should use the money collected from tuition to hire more people to answer the call of the students paying their salary. This will be my last semester at this school! Completely unacceptable!

I selected poor to fair because there isn't a "horrible" option. I went to the New Orleans Campus my Freshman year then the Covington Campus my sophomore year before transferring to LSU. The teachers range from exceptional to terrible. The rest of the staff either doesn't know what is going on most of the time or they're just rude and don't care about you. The 2 years I spent at Delgado Community were 2 of the most frustrating years of my life. Don't even give this school a shot. They'll take your money and send you on your way. A pitiful excuse for an institution of higher learning.

It's a great school in a nice area of New Orleans. I attended Delgado for a year and I loved it.

Natanya Bolden

The courses they offer are a great bargain, in regard to how much you save by attending their school.

This college is a joke. Do you have anyone competent working for you? I need my transcripts from another college and some how you have a hold on my account. I was NEVER even a student there! The person in your admissions claims it’s from an application in 2011! You want me to pay $50 for an application that was never processed. Since I desperately need my transcripts I agree to this ridiculous blackmail. I get transferred from person to person. Finally I’m told that the balance is so old that I have to speak to accounts receivable. I call over and over and the phone rings! Can I please pay this black mail fee and get my transcripts?

Kevin Johnson

It was a great experience, the only thing is that school is huge and there isn't really anybody to help you unless you know exactly where u going for the help.

THIS SCHOOL SUCKS!!! FINANCIAL AID OFFICE ESPECIALLY.....EVERYONE TAKES THEIR TIME TO PROCESS PAPERWORK. ONE PERSON TELL YOU SOMETHING AND THEN THE NEXT DAY YOU ARE TOLD SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!! Delgado has the potential to provide a good education to many but I've never been to a more unprofessional, unorganized school. Staff overall don't seem to want to help, if anything they make the process of applying to college very discouraging. I've attended other universities so I know this is not the norm, had I come to Delgado out of high school I probably would of gave up on trying to go to college. Documents get lost, they send you from person to person and turn what ends up being a simple task into a 3hr process. It has potential to be a good school but currently needs ALOT of work. Staff REALLY need to communicate between departments.

ToyaZetar8

I've been going here for a year and a half and I'm transferring out asap. I've had some really wonderful teachers(Mrs.Dawes) but the admistrative staff is a disgrace. I've had to find $2000 to pay out of pocket for the last two semesters because the financial aid department is so inept. I couldn't even get in touch with them besides vague email responses. good thing i could scrounge up the money or else i wouldn't have been able to attend! DO NOT GO HERE if you can help it. if there were any other options they wouldn't have any students at all.

Depends on what you are going for, I don't consider this to be a good school to prepare you for university level classes.
