For the price I pay, I had the right to a teacher who made us read almost 200 pages per week without ever coming back to it and who did not even show up at the labs, a teacher who read these slides 1 by 1 for 3 hours and two American teachers who did not know how to speak French well. These same teachers then give you so much reading that I am lost. The university relies mainly on these infrastructures which are really incredible for the time being but behind, there is nothing. I also find that the university does not help the students at all, I am a foreigner and life is expensive here: each book costs between $ 30 and $ 50 and there is not even a reduction if we go to the university bookstore, What interest? You have to pay $ 11 to have a registration certificate (2 examples among several). I really thought I arrived in an establishment that wants to see its students succeed but it is not the case and it looks a lot more like a big slot machine :( Except the SAFIRE which is for the time a practical and useful service. The administration is really horrible on the other hand: you have to wait 1 whole afternoon to receive a paper and there are so many different services that to have information is very complicated! in short maybe my integration into the Quebec system is difficult and that's why I'm putting it on the back of the university, whatever it is I think you really have to hang on if you want to come and study here and not only for lessons! (Original) Je trouve que en soit les cours les sont très mauvais, les profs ne savent pas faire comprendre et apprendre et n'ont aucune pédagogie. Pour le prix que je paye, j'ai eu le droit à une prof qui nous faisait lire presque 200 pages par semaine sans jamais revenir dessus et qui ne se présentait même pas aux TP, une prof qui lisait ces diapositives 1 par 1 pendant 3h et deux profs américains qui ne savait pas bien parler français. Ces même profs te donnent ensuite tellement de lecture que je suis perdu. L'université mise surtout sur ces infrastructures qui sont vraiment incroyables pour le coup mais derrière, il n'y a rien. Je trouve aussi que l'université n'aide pas du tout les élèves, je suis étranger et la vie coûte chère ici : chaque livre coûte entre 30 et 50$ et il n'y a même pas de réduction si l'on va à la librairie universitaire, Quel intérêt ? Il faut payer 11$ pour avoir une attestation d’inscription ( 2 exemples parmi plusieurs). Je pensais vraiment arrivé dans un établissement qui veut voir ses étudiants réussir mais ce n'est pas la cas et ça ressemble beaucoup plus à une grande machine à sous :( Hormis le SAFIRE qui est pour le coup un service pratique et utile. L'administration est vraiment horrible par contre : tu dois attendre 1 après-midi entière pour recevoir un papier et il y a tellement de services différents que pour avoir une information c'est très compliqué ! bref peut être que mon intégration au système québécois est difficile et c'est pourquoi je remets ça sur le dos de l'université, quoi qu'il en soit je trouve qu'il faut VRAIMENT s'accrocher si tu veux venir étudier ici et pas que pour les cours !

L' Université de Montreal is a nice looking University and here is my review for it. Firstly, the Campus is beautiful. The buildings look and feel old which is nice although they do need a lot of renovation for their older buildings. École polytecjnique is a nice engineering school as well and the building feels old and again renovation is key here. A lot of Green spaces, parks and quiet since you a little further from downtown. This University is fully french so just be aware when you are getting your services but there are some who speak English and may help you out if need be. This university should be sustainable and environmentally adaptable to future climate change. They should do better for the environment and I hope to see those changes in the near future. All in all a nice building to visit and I pass by from time to time.

4.5 stars. I chose this place because the website is very comprehensive and it's easier to navigate than McGill's or Concordia's. That was very useful in choosing my curriculum. The application process was very smooth, only a few question marks. This being said as any application process you need to provide this and that, so be ready and start early. In terms of the main campus the buildings are a bit old (some are being renovated) and it's less pretty than McGill. However the hillside and the view are very nice.

You pay to learn by yourself. Zero help from professors and administration. You read like 500-1000 pages a week and you have to choose by yourself what is important. In addition, a lot of team work, and you never can choose your team. The most of the evaluations are writing works ( most of them is a research of scientific sources). Most of your learning time will not be spent for a specific material, but for the reading of explanations and trying to understand how to do the works. In case if you need some accommodations, the answer is always no. Zero flexibility. You feel yourself as a number. In one word, their programs are not done for human, but for a machine who doesn't need to think about it's mental health and about having a life. In addition, it's boring as hell. The most stressful experience ever :(

En tout cas, j'y ai passé les plus beaux moments de ma vie sur tous les plans : académique, scientifique, culturel, sportif et ....affectif ! Ce fut vraiment passionnant cette décennie glorieuse (1980-1990) ..... mais trop dur d'y obtenir, comme moi, un M.Sc. et Ph.D. en sciences économiques ! Les professeurs sont extrêmement compétents, sympathiques et disponibles mais très exigeants. Le personnel administratif et technique aimable et coopératif. Et, nous autres étudiants étrangers (je suis Nigérien) étions accueillis à bras ouverts, bien encadrés et respectés à l'Université et dans toute la ville de Montréal.

Horrible Administration and not supportive towards international students. Biggest issue in my opinion is their health insurance. McGill insurance covers international graduate students, their spouse and children completely. UdeM insurance only covers the graduate student. So an additional private cover is needed to cover one s family (even pregnancy), leading to much higher insurance costs. Considering the fact that graduate students have already restricted or even no income, it makes it very difficult to have a family life. THIS DOESN T APPLY TO ALL FRENCH STUDENT AS THEY ARE COVERED BY THE RAMQ! So basically they don t care at all about the other nationalities since the french students make up for the highest part of international students. They should look at McGills international student policies and learn from them. I am ashamed to be part of this university. Absolutely unacceptable and strong discrimination!

Admission office. They are asking so many documents for nothing. They refused my admission because they asked me each document pdfs everyday, that document is not relevant for admission. and limitless document requests everyday made my application refused not meeting deadline, and finally I was admitted 3 months ago. and now they ask me to send my original documents due to 'Control of Documents' or something just 1 month before term starts.
