Great program to take, I highly recommend it
I'm afraid I have to rate this course/school one star. I attended this course when I was unemployed and desperate to upgrade my resume, so I suppose it helped keep me busy. But the entrance "exam" was a joke (anyone who's passed grade 6 can pass it), and the level of instruction/administration was questionable. The course costs $5400 a person, and when you do the math, the facility should be a hell of a lot nicer than it is. A tiny, cramped classroom jam-packed with 50+ students with a heating system that barely worked in the middle of winter, two bathroom stalls (that a homeless person broke into at one point), and nothing but a tiny IKEA cupboard to put your coats and shoes into. Have fun wandering out into the -30 weather on your forced, mandatory hour long lunch break! I was surprised when we weren't given any print materials whatsoever, and instead told to write everything by hand. I paid more money for that course than I did for my certificate from NAIT, yet I wasn't even given a welcome package. Then there was the day the instructor had a literal meltdown in front of the class because of a couple of people. Instead of pulling them aside like a professional would do, she yelled at the whole class and disrupted everything for nearly an hour. In fact, on a weekly basis we wondered if she would melt down again. It was extremely unprofessional. The practicum was OK, except it was a 30 minute drive from home, when one of my classmates was assigned a clinic literally next to my house. I was basically ignored during my practicum and only allowed to do the most basic of chores, such as wiping down the exam table. I was not offered a job afterwards, and the experience soured me so much that I only applied to a handful of MOA jobs before giving up. I should point out I maintained a professional, positive attitude and tried my best to be helpful. The clinic just made it feel like it was a burden to take on students from this course. And as it turns out the market is not as "hot" for MOAs as the school claims. I now work in an entirely different industry. I love my job, but I don't accredit it to my experience at the Medical Reception College. This course has put me $5400 in debt and all I have to show for it is a bunch of scrubs I will never wear. This class 100% felt like a money grab, and the instructor often complained about how understaffed they are. Do yourselves a favor and attend a course at NAIT or Grant MacEwan instead.
This course surpassed all my expectations, after graduating from it I would highly recommend the medical reception college to anyone interested in the medical office assistant field the people that I met while I was in this course we're top notch they are very smart but most importantly they care about the students I was hired at my practicum and I'm very happy that I took this course. I guess the main reason I would recommend this course is the price and the length of time as a single parent I didn't have time to take a one year course this course taught me everything I needed to know in three short months and most importantly it doesn't cost an arm and a leg actually it's very reasonably priced. This school really helped me get back on my feet after my divorce from my ex I didn't know how I was going to make everything work now that Ive graduated and im working things are a whole lot better all I can say is this school really knows what there doing especially when it comes to making you feel important and special which is how I felt after graduating.
Good course I graduated fast and most important I found a job at a clinic five minutes away from my house.
One of the best courses I've taken in my entire life and here's why first of all at the end of the course you graduate with a diploma and not a certificate like other medical office assistant schools in Edmonton which may not sound important but it is when your out looking for a job employers prefer people with diplomas. Second the course is only three months long so you know that in three months you will be out hitting the pavement and looking for work which is excellent especially if your a single mom like me a bunch of girls in my class found jobs before even graduating because they put medical reception college on their resume. Third the cost is much lower than most moa courses in Edmonton so you don't end up with a mountain of student loans that is impossible to pay off, my loan was very manageable and I was able to pay it back within one year. Fourth your in class with the instructor every day so if you don't understand something you can ask for clarification and the instructor has thirty minute tutoring sessions available every day after class which is amazing. Fifth the people that you meet in this program, I made more friends throughout this program than when I was in high school the class is full of people who are so inspiring and fun to talk to which makes the time fly which it does the three months goes by so fast and then one day I was receiving my diploma and ready for my new career which I love now that I'm working in a doctor's office. I can't say enough good things about the program it is definitely a go for my friends if they ask me.
I'm now working my dream job because of this course, the course is only three months long so it goes by very fast, the people at the school really care about the students I'm so happy with my new job and it's all thanks to the people at the medical reception college. I met so many amazing people at my practicum this course has opened a whole new world of people to me my social life and professional life has changed dramatically for the better because of it.
This college is a cheap hole in the wall on the second floor of a tiny building. There's one classroom only and one teacher. The bathroom is small with only 2 stalls to accomodate 50+ students which requires a key to access. The school doesn't even have a lunch room or a place foe the students to go, so the students are forced outside, which would be worse in the winter. The classroom is awkwardly laid out and is as big, if not smaller than the waiting area, so the students are cramped with no room to move. The program is $5400 per student and the students are forced to use old, out dated computers and half of them don't even work or start glitching out. There are no pens, no welcom package, nothing. We are given "pamphlets" that have countless spelling errors and a binder that misses pages we go over. The teacher tells us that we cannot take a pictures of or send ourselves the slides because that's "copyright" but tells us to write it out word for word. If we want a more in depth definition, we were told to buy a text book or medical dictionary for $10. Then she proceeds to claim this school is the best and degrades other colleges/universities by claiming they don't have social skills. The teacher is rude and doesn't bother to get names right. She also makes students feel stupid if they don't know the answer and makes blatantly racist remarks and is very misleading. Head office is just as bad if not worse to deal with. The practical itself makes absolutely no sense. Some students are on the busses for 1-2 hours or longer which is not ideal for the employee nor the potential employers. They do no research on who they're sending their students to. This class is not worth being $5400 in debt.
Excellent course, excellent instructors...
The Medical Reception College course was an expensive joke and I advise you to look into a real school. Once you're in the program you will feel regret on such poor education received. Be warned. Also the last 3+ weeks you are not learning anything. The "teacher" just hands out papers (that you don't even need and are not useful) and makes you sit around to study (shouldn't we study at home on our own time and in class get the education that we paid for??) and send resumes out even though you still have 3 weeks to go plus practicum that can span over 3 weeks just to get 42 hours completed. It was all ridiculous. Watch out people!
Excellent course, excellent people I definitely recommend it, I completed it three years ago and I'm working as a medical office assistant thanks to this course.
I really enjoyed this program, the instructor was always there to help students if we needed. The work experience part of the program takes place in a real doctors office, you can't get more hands on training than this course. I got a job two weeks after graduating and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to become a medical office assistant in only three months.
I found out about the medical reception college from my family doctors office, one day I was visiting my doctor for a routine checkup and I randomly told her I was going to take a medical office assistant course, she told me that it was very important to research each program in Edmonton as most only give certificates. My doctor then told me about the medical reception college, she said they give a diploma for their MOA course, she also said the medical reception college is the most respected and recognized medical office assistant school by doctors, general practitioners and specialists in Alberta. She also told me that her clinic and all the clinics she knows who hire MOA'S will hire someone immediately if their resume says they went to the medical reception college. Well four months later and I'm now working in a specialist office making great money I got hired three weeks after I graduated from the medical reception college I now work in a busy clinic with five doctors and it's all thanks to this school. They trained me in a way that turned me into an asset for doctors offices now when I hand out resumes I get call backs immediately and it's all because medical reception college is on my resume. This course is a life changer and the medical community in Edmonton all know about this school and they even recommend it just like my family doctor recommended it to me and I'm so thankful she did. Its a great school.and the people are amazing taking this course was one of the best decisions I ever made
This is an amazing course I recently completed it, the instructor was more than I could ask for! She was always available after class to help me with anything I didn't understand, my practicum went very well and the clinic staff were so welcoming I learnt so much, if you want to get your diploma as a medical office assistant in only three months I would definitely recommend this course. I think it's important for people to understand if you want to complete this course successfully you will have to show up to class everyday and study for your exams. If you don't you will not pass, there were a few ladies in my class who didn't pass and I'm guessing they're the ones posting negative comments . If you show up to class everyday, study for your exams and complete your practicum you will do just fine, the instructor is always available after class for an hour to help students who need extra one on one help and guidance with studying to be successful and complete the course with a passing grade. This course had a huge positive impact on me and I'm very happy with my outcome I now have direction in my life!
The instructor is so resist !!! I have never expriance this kind of negativity ????????????
I would definitely recommend this course the instructor is awesome I almost didn't register for it but i decided to take a leap of faith and I'm so happy I did I'm now working in a field that is so rewarding I get to help people on a daily basis and I get paid for it. It literally doesn't get any better than that.
Instructors are awesome, I took this course way back in 2010 my sister took it in 2012 after I told her how it helped me start a new career fast.
What's amazing about the medical reception college is the price of their MOA course I know other schools in Edmonton that charge five times the cost that the medical reception college charges I'm working at the hospital now, this is how every school should operate fast track programs that are fairly priced a huge bonuse was the instructor is with the students all day making sure we're doing good on our quizzes and exams this course is a huge step up
Perfect length of time everyone I talk to who has taking this course says good things about it, I loved taking this course it's the best way to become an MOA in Edmonton
This is a great course I completed it in 2014, i told my cousin about it and she took it also, most clinics in Edmonton will hire you when they find out you have a diploma from the medical reception college.
My class had over forty students and a lot of them found jobs at the clinics they were sent to for their job shadowing / practicum. This course definitely taught me everything I needed to know about being a medical office assistant and I received a recognized diploma and full MOA certification which is amazing for a three month course. The instructor is very strict so I would suggest students listen to everything she says as she knows what she's talking about. At my job shadowing / practicum clinic there was nine doctors and seven medical office assistants and they all knew my instructor and said really good things about her, she's very well respected in the medical field. I'm really happy with the outcome of this course and to think I almost didn't take it I was going to register at a different school I'm so glad I chose the medical reception college it was definitely the right choice for me.
This course was amazing it helped me out big time, I'm now working as a Medical Office Assistant. The course took only three months to complete, I've read a few negative comments on this page, here's the thing if you show up to class everyday and do the assignments on time and pass your exams you will pass with flying colours. However if you skip class, miss days and slack off on your assignments and quizzes you're not going to pass. The course is very fast paced and the instructors don't mess around with students who slack off. I have a felling the negative comments are coming from previous students who slacked off and skipped class and ultimately ended up failing. My class had one of those slackers in it and from what I know she failed and she posted a negative comment here. I'm not going to mention her name but just goes to show if you think you're just going to walk into this course and pass with flying colours you're wrong, you need to be prepared to study and show up to class everyday. For me this was one of the best courses I've taken in my life and the end result surpassed my expectations.
I really enjoyed taking this course, the instructor was amazing and I made some amazing new friends at the school. I would definitely recommend this course to anybody looking to become a medical office assistant.
The medical reception college sent me to a busy clinic for my job shadowing and the clinic manager hired me, this course is the best. I got the best results from this medical office assistant course, I love this school they helped me in more ways I can explain amazing people at this school.
I'm working at neurology and it's all thanks to the medical reception college this course is the best option to become a medical office assistant fast. Everyone I talk to in the medical field knows about this course and knows someone who has taking it. Medical reception college is where doctors tell aspiring medical office assistants to get their diplomas from I hear it every day at the clinic I work at
I finished this course last month it really is an excellent course for anyone looking to became a medical assistant fast. The instrustor was great she made sure all the students were on the path to graduating. I must admit the course seams very easy at first but after a couple of weeks it starts to get intense and fast. My practicum was amazing I got to work with a great team of professionals, I was able to great patients, schedule appointments, work with the doctor and prepare rooms for exams and so much more that it would be impossible to explain in a small review. What was really amazing is how many students in my class found jobs from their practicums lots of them started working immediately and two girls found jobs at hospitals before even graduating, professionals who work in the medical field hire medical office assistants fast when they find out you went to the medical reception college. I couldn't be happier with my outcome from this course and to think I almost was going to go to a different medical office assistant program in Edmonton, I'm so happy I went to the medical reception college they really made sure I got a solid career they actually cared about me and guided me in the right direction. It's because of them that I'm successful now and I'm so grateful to them for that.
I researched all the schools in edmonton that offer a medical office assistant program and ultimately I decided to enroll at the medical reception college for a few reasons the first was time and price and the second was I got a diploma at the end of the program, most other schools only give certificates. The diploma the medical reception college gives their students is very respected amongst medical clinics and it's one of the main reasons I found my new job in a specialists clinic which pays more than the average salary and it's all because of my diploma from this school. The fact that you can accomplish all this in only three months is impressive and well worth it I always tell my friends if you want to do a medical office assistant program go to the medical reception college because they know what their doing and they'll get you to where you need to be fast.
I got my first job as a medical office assistant because of this course! I highly recommend it
Hours are great so is the instructor I recommend it
It's really good!!!
You can put a 6 year old in this course and they would pass with flying. Colors. For $5400 you sit there for 5 hours and copy notes off a laptop. The "instructor" sits there and yells all the time. She will give you the answers for the quiz a day before you take it. Not worth the money or time
This course is worth every penny, I learned everything I needed to be a medical office assistant. This school focuses on getting students ready for the real world, I found a job in a busy clinic a few weeks after graduating and it's all because the last few weeks of the program the instructor teaches and makes all students focus on job search strategies and techniques which was very beneficial to me and the main reason why I found a job so fast. The instructor helped me create a resume and cover letter that is focused on the medical field and I also got one on one job interview training. They really do set up their students for success. I'm so happy at my new job and I will be applying to other clinics after I have one year of experience working at this clinic. I would definitely recommend this course I went from bagging groceries to working in a medical clinic with doctors and nurses in under four months which is absolutely amazing in my opinion, the people I work with are so passionate about what they do and it's such an honour to be their assistant everyday helping them help others.
