Had one professor so awful I felt the need to have a meeting about him being inappropriate. My meeting with him ended with him ordering me to leave his office. Having not been able to settle things with him personally, I escalated to the department chair, and faculty head, neither of them really took me serious. Both of them protected the professor as though he was a child who needed shielding from scrutiny, and did not in any way acknowledge that he was infact not a child, but a professor in a position of considerable power and influence. So, I was summarily brushed aside.

The advisors are terrible at their job, so make sure you TRIPLE CHECK their advice and information, because it will likely cost you time and effort and even failing grades. Between two angular, slanted towers, which look like layered granite blocks and in the upper part each have three large-scale windows, is the main entrance. Slightly rounded here is the front of glass, a large clock with Latin numerals reminds late arrivals to hurry. On both sides of the towers, the glass front continues, and then connects the other university buildings at right angles. The university offers 13,000 students space to acquire the Baccalaur in ten fields of study. The building is not one of the superlatives in architecture, but it is remarkable if you are in the area anyway. (Original) Die MacEwan Universität weist eine interessante Architektur auf, die mit dem Haupteingang einen wahren Blickfang erzeugt. Got told one thing before I applied for my second undergrad degree now I'm being told something else and because of such I will not be admitted and have to take a high school course at 24 years of age. Complete BS if you ask me and a money grab. Waste of time with them.

I have had a great experience at this school since 2017 with my professors and my classes. But my god, let me just tell you how frustrating it is to reach out to anyone else. First of all there is absolutely no customer service when asking about programs, graduation or basically anything I have ever reached out for. Students are the customers of this business and should be treated as such. What excuse could you possibly have for disrespecting students asking for clarification by just skimming their questions and replying with go look on the website. Such a giant disappointment every single time.

MacEwan is one of the worst universities in Canada. The university pretends it is 'teaching focused' : this is a cover up to hide the fact that they have really academically very unqualified staff and will accept even the most stupid students to make money. This place is just about trying to make money out of students. Take a look at any international rankings and MacEwan is at the bottom of the list at 5842th position! The staff have really poor credentials and the university does not look good on your CV as it is known for being the place students go to when no one else will accept them. The classes are boring and the syllabi are not well-researched and very simplistic. At other universities you can be taught by super smart people and get the best staff trained at top universities around the world, at MacEwan this does not exist. Some of the teachers don't even have a PhD! Mostly they hire mediocre, very average people from local Alberta universities. There seems to be no interest in hiring more qualified staff. They also do not have a real interest in academia at MacEwan and any real university should have an interest in research but it it is minimal there. The staff have no desire to compel students to do better, they just focus on classes where you are taught the minimum so that staff can get the students through exams and then get their paycheck. This school is not about education it is a money-making university that has the lowest qualified staff and you will find yourself sitting in boring classes with people who could not get into any other uni. Go somewhere else if you want a real education.

Great location, building has 3 main entrances (front, right side ( food court) and at the back of the building ), 6 floors +plus, wheelchairs access and parking. There's available limited free public parking at the right wing - side of the building and paid underground public parking at the left wing - side of the building. There's also paid parking in the street and the Lacome Hotel. There's also a food court and coffee shop. Besides that, there is also a lot of amenities in the vicinity, Starbucks, Tim Horton and others quick bite places! Public transportation through LRT Central Station and ETS buses in the block.

Previous reviewers have no idea what they're talking about. The Profs actually have real life experience, and degrees. Many of my business professors have worked in the real world for many years (banks, accountants, etc.) and give it to you straight with what's relevant. Profs actually know you by your name, and care if you do good or not. Wi-Fi could be better at times, and have a few more places to sit. Other than that, it's a great school and you'll be treated quite well.

I took my Bachelor of Commerce degree at MacEwan and I couldn't have been happier doing so here, the campus is beautiful. The business program focuses on hands on learning with lots of group projects (love/hate relationship) that mimic real life workplace objectives, conflicts, etc. Most of the professors are great! If you find a couple that work for you, continue taking their classes.

The COVID response at MacEwan has let us down. The quality of education has taken a serious hit with deliverance of courses being moved online without any sort of organization. My personal testimony: I paid full tuition for a course with a professor that did not; prepare lectures or lecture material, design or create assignments, mark or respond to tests and assignments. This is in addition to the fact that it was a first year course in the evening. I signed up for a three hour lecture once a week and instead I paid for a textbook I can't use for any longer than a year and a half, a self taught course with a nonexistent professor, and a distaste for future classes. My opinion: defer your courses until the pandemic is really, truly over.

Class sizes are small, teachers are extremely helpful and are willing to go out of their way to help you learn. Staff is very helpful and understanding. Macewan promotes a peaceful learning environment. However some teachers are extremely difficult to understand in classes, therefore making course material hard to absorb. Despite this, very good learning institution.

My friend and his other 20 classmates completed their full program in MacEwan in 2016 and NONE of them found a job in the field!!! Should university programs funding be tied to student success? ... I would suggest Nait or UoA.

Overall the school is fairly good but some of the classrooms and facilities are pretty timeworn. I’ve had 4 or 5 instructors refuse to use the “technology” provided, like projectors and screens, because they either don’t work or they are not prepared to use them. Compared to other post secondary institutions, MacEwan tends to ‘hold your hand’ a little bit more than other schools. This can be both a good and bad thing - good if all you’re looking to get is a good mark or a passing grade but bad if you’re looking to truly gain something from the classes you are taking. I’d be happy to discuss in greater detail for those interested in hearing more.

I called to get information on some programs, fees, wait lists, etc, and the person who answered the phone was impatient, rude, kept interrupting me, and was overall terrible. I was fully considering this university, this wasn't at all what I expected just from wanting to ask a couple questions, however I've found somewhere else with more polite and helpful people available for me to speak with. I doubt I'd make it anywhere with this school, if I needed assistance with anything I don't think I'd get it.

When I went there to ask about some course and tell them what requirement that I have and I don't have and what will happen, they ask me to look for my information online and guide me trough a step by step online (something that I already know). The information they provided did not help me at all. only 1 advice I take: they ask me to go to NAIT or Metro for upgrading, so I did go to NAIT. at NAIT I went to the student service centre and they give me a step by step for what I need to do, what am I going to expect, and what happen if I don't have the requirement. they give me an information which is make me understand more and answer my questions. I take 2 night course in NAIT, the instructor is funny and give you lot's of example to make you understand more about what you are studying. the moodle is also great. I am glad I take a course in NAIT.

Went to the fitness centre. They've got a good system! Pay for drop in online, it's easy to book your slot and fairly easy to cancel if needed. 1.5 hour slots. $7.50 for drop in I believe. Everyone carries around disinfectant spray and wipes down the equipment before and after use. Not tons of equipment, but with fewer people I never had to wait for anything

This building is amazing. It’s been around for a while and at the time it was built it was a college but now is a university. The university is attended by many students, hard to imagine but hey that’s what it is here for. I personally have not attended but I work downtown and have passed through this building many times over the years and have always enjoyed the experience.

The new CFAC is not good. Sure it is big and beautiful but does it function? Hardly. It honestly feels like a sterile building, everything is white and grey, where is the art? Where is the colour? And who asked for these stupid Harry Potter stairs? They make every trip between floors take 10x longer than necessary. Also not enjoying the sounds of construction during class, why open the building if it wasn't even finished? Needless to say, I miss the old orange CFAC.

Great school but some of staff are careless and unhelpful. I've been having an issue with Finance, I emailed them to cancel an automated payment because I wanted to come pay in person and I got an email back saying they would, but never did. My account got charged and and all they offered to fix the situation was to wait until the payment bounced ( I'd be charged NSF from my bank and macewan ) and to repay in person. I asked multiple times to be relayed to a supervisor but I haven't gotten a reply since. Karen Krysa from Finance was the individual that I was in contact with.

Great place to upgrade your education for university preparation. It's a well maintained community college that simulates university life as best as possible with the class schedules. All of the instructors I had were very good at teaching the material and keeping class entertaining, they are all very obviously passionate about their teaching. If you need math courses upgraded, take them with Rod if possible as he makes learning basic math very easy. Great teacher who turned myself, a guy who was awful at math since before I can remember, into a current engineering student.

New student, back to school after 20 years. No orientation at all. Basically had to figure everything out myself. My math instructor for 10c is a whole different story. Brutal instructor. I went to the main campus to student affairs to see if I could get help figuring things out and the receptionist referred me back to alberta college. She was of no help at all. Not very impressed with this school. I regret picking this school for upgrading. If you're going for upgrading I suggest you pick a different school.

I really love being a student here. People are generally quite friendly and the staff I've encountered have all been really great (janitorial and food services namely). Thankfully I've only had two profs I wasn't a fan of, and the rest of mine have been really good. I like the clubs and the posters around the halls and the vibrancy of the school in general.

It's in a great location, the faculty are amazing, and there are so many different things you can do there to relax or have some fun! Do not spend your money here. I have finished degrees from the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto, and attempted to take some professional continuing Ed courses at this 'university'. MacEwan is only interested in making profit and has zero integrity and zero professionalism. COVID-19 was used as an excuse for the school to disregard the course syllabus and defer my requests to preform a practical exam that I was ready for after completing all the online modules in September because they did not have the capacity to provide exam proctors which I believe had nothing to do with the pandemic. I received a last minute notice to test in person in December, during a time which I informed the instructor I would not be able to test- for a course which is self-paced and in the syllabus declares you can request testing at any time. I lost my $400 even though I studied and was prepared to complete the self paced course in the fall. MACEWAN UNIVERSITY IS AN OPPORTUNISTIC BUSINESS, SENDING COUNTLESS EMAILS REQUESTING STUDENTS TO HAVE UNDERSTANDING FOR THEIR FAILURE TO DELIVER USING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AS AN EXCUSE- BUT DOES NOT RECIPROCATE THE COURTESY TO THE STUDENT. It took on average, 2 weeks for any email concern to be addressed and I have been told I can repeat the course on my own dime. Maybe I would do this, if I could be guaranteed that the program would allow me to write the exam at the end. I have never been so disgusted with a singular institution- be aware that this school does not have the capacity to deliver what it says it can offer down to basic testing dates and structure. SEE OTHER REVIEWS ON GOOGLE REGARDING SIMILAR EXPERIENCES DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. A beautiful University campus in downtown Edmonton with shimmering glass exteriors and a couple shaded grassy areas a short walk from many high frequency public transit stops and the new downtown arena. The campus itself is comprised of multiple interconnected buildings with the newest building to open for summer/fall 2017. The grounds especially are well maintained when not under construction like the new Students Union building. Some of the designs of the older buildings are unusual however they definitely stand out. Being on a very busy intersection in downtown Edmonton there is always noisy traffic with multiple crosswalks. The students bring with them a large demand for nearby late night food options.

I live in Renfrew Arms Apartments on 98 ave & 104 street 4+ years, students from here like Jessica (business/yoga) & Jenna (aucupuncture) by city of edmonton and their gangs regularly (24/7) wirelessly shocking and torturing teanants in of renfrew and britania. need help. They bring in hundreds of cars and target individual teanants through 'the horizon apartments' + 'the palisades/broadwalk' + vincity. need help.

I did my upgrading here before applying for BSc science to university and loved it. The teachers are great especially Maria in math and Debbie for English ( forgot their last names). Debbie made me love Hamlet, I wish I had teacher like her when I was in high school. The atmosphere is nice, large cafeteria there are even games you can play on your breaks like ping pong. Overall had a great experience.

Money grabbing institute. Wont refund your money even if their advisors told u incorrectly and then i went ahead and paid accordingly. I lost $400 for getting enrolled in something they said I wont get in. No one would reply to your emails regarding complaints or refund issues. But they will msg you back in 24hrs if u want to get enrolled in. Worst experience. I would suggest Nait or UoA.

Only gets 2 stars because a few professors are actual gems, the rest don't care, nor are willing to have any pride in their field of study, nor will they offer much help to a student in need. As for the institution, they are top heavy and only out for cash. After a single bad semester, death of a loved one, serious long term health issues etc that semester, they dropped me on probation. I went to a dean to ask for some leniency because of circumstances and let me graduate the next year. Was met with a notebook with 4 letter grades written in pencil, givin a sob story about how members in her family have had to go on probation before, and told I should have went to the writing center....yes the writing center, because that would have really stopped my bff from passing, my health from declining and the multitude of life issues, idk who schalomon bribed for that PhD but she's clearly lacking in basic DSM-5 and human emotion. I provided documentation, I followed everything by the book, avoided plagerism and cheating unlike my peers, but at the end of the day, all this institution wants is your money, with no concern over your life. They should be ashamed to even consider themselves a post secondary institution.

The concert hall here (Muttart Hall) is a fantastic little performance venue. Fun place to check out a student recital or a paid ticket show. Stunning accoustics, nice interiors. Also terrific views of the River Valley, and not far from the restaurants on Jasper Ave. Find an event, and check it out.

I went to Grant MacEwan at the City Centre Campus for 3 Semesters, fall of 2010 and a full year, 2011-2012. I have to say that I had a great experience. There are great instructors, who are always willing to help if you just ask. The class sizes are not gigantic, so your professor's actually get to you know you. The building isn't too big, it's not a 15 or 20 minute walk to your next class. There's a good selection for food. There are 2 Tim Hortons' in the building, Pizza 73, Subway, a wrap place, and a different store with other healthy options. There's also bar on campus called Towers. The bookstore is awesome, It carries a lot of cool things, it's pretty handy if you need to get something in between classes.. and last but not least, It's walking distance from downtown. So it's close to whatever else you need. It definitely felt like home to me for a while. Love Grant Mac!

Admission with international qualification is a joke... it is impossible to get any answer on why my overseas qualifications would not get recognized. Felt like there is no standard whatsoever. Heard many stories about international students got admitted to their English as a Second Language program and wasted one whole year. So what happened to me? spent one year at NAIT and most of my credit got transferred to UofA.

I've read through a lot of the reviews and I can see where people are coming from, but I know University is a different experience for everyone so I'm just speaking from my perspective. I'm a MacEwan Alumni and finished school here over 3 years ago, I do agree with the food prices reviews. You pay a lot of money and that's all due to Aramark. Seems like they're around still and overcharging people. WiFi was annoying when I was on campus. There are some profs more than others who aren't so great and don't really teach some subjects well for what you pay for. Regardless, I loved most of the profs in my major and minor, but some of the other classes, that's a different story. MacEwan registrar was also the biggest annoyance during my time there. If you want your questions answered, expect to be on the phone for a long time where someone either gets back to you but you wait, or no one gets back to you and you hang up in frustration. I learned that I had to resolve things there cause of that reason in itself. It's also an undergraduate institution only and for some programs like Education and Engineering , you have to transfer to a different University to complete your degree. Those are some negatives. MacEwan gets 4 stars for this reason though.Your class sizes are small, and for me learning that way us less intimidating because of the smaller setting. Professors know you by name, they recognize a face, it's easier to ask questions and you're not just a number. In a setting like that, found it was asking questions and being able to see profs during their office hours that allowed me to thrive in courses I struggled in. If you want a smaller class setting, MacEwan is the place to be. I didn't end up transferring to U of A for that reason because I liked the small classes, and just how social people were on campus. Student clubs aren't as many as the U of A, but if you're looking for connections and ways to meet people outside of the class , get involved. It'll help expand your community. Overall, I was satisfied with my education and don't regret my degree. Some courses I really could have done without and had no interest in, but leaning to take different courses diversifies your knowledge. I know school is expensive and people want to finish, but the question I had to ask myself is, looking back, what memories do you have of your time here? . No University is perfect, but I'm happy to be an alumni here, and learning new things All the time.

MacEwan is a wonderful school with great professors. It is set up with smaller class sizes, which makes it easier for students to interact with their professors and classmates. The campus itself is beautiful, with modern exterior and interior architecture and tons of natural light. The only issue is parking and that the school is located at the nexus between downtown and the very seedy areas just north of it, which can make the surrounding areas a magnet for drug addicts, homeless and thugs. Still, MacEwan is a fantastic school and you will get a quality education. MacEwan is also a great start if you want to transfer to other universities in Alberta.

Hate this school. Money grabbing people since they got scammed. Would not recommend this school. Prices are jacked up and don't care about you. You're just a number to them. The first chance they get to screw you over they'll do it.

Very frustrating to deal with in regards to a program withdrawal (because my acceptance letter didn't state online or in class) lots of repeating to get something resolved. Not helpful, customer service is horrible expect one person. I'm thankful I didn't waste too much money here, how they are handling things now, I will never wish to go here. Very disappointed in this school

Most instructors are fantastic and caring. Great educational programming. Nothing on campus is 'student priced'. You pay a premium for everything from pencils, to food, to parking etc etc. Not like a real university in that way. Also....the technology and internet is terrible! Good luck spending less than 20-30 minutes to log in at the computer lab. You'll need even more luck trying to log in and use the wifi in class. It's incompatible, constant glitches, and is very slow. The app is even worse. Honestly, feel like I'm travelling in a developing nation, or have gone back to the 90's when I try and do anything tech related on campus.
