Very nice and different experience for me. I study at the Vanwest College since 10.20.2019. Ian is the best teacher for me.We celebrated the new year at the Vanwest College. Everybody wore different costumes. This was so fun .I've many new friends. They are Brazilian, Korean, Japanese , Mexican and Chinese.I always contact with them . Our advisors are like our family. My advisor is Mustafa. Mustafa is like my older brother. I'm gonna go business management after language education .

Having studied at Vanwest college it was an amazing experience for me because there I could meet people from all of the wold and I made friends for life . Besides, I’ve improved my English a lot in 6 months so then I was able to apply for a college witch English is the first language. I have had incredible teachers that whenever I needed help they were there to help me. The activities were a great tool to communicate with other people in English and make new friends as well. I highly recommend Vanwest college to everyone for learning English.

(Translated) Well, my name is Rodrigo, I'm 43 years old, an engineer and I have a management position in a multinational. I always needed English for work and decided to leave my family in BH and dedicate myself to studying in an exchange abroad, because English had never been a priority in my routine and started to be sorely missed. The account below serves both to evaluate the school and the exchange in Vancouver. I closed the exchange package with the Student Central (in BH) in 2017 and still kept in touch with them for 1 year, as I had changed jobs in 2017 and had to postpone my exchange to October 2018. I always made my profile very clear father of a family, engineer with over 20 years in the industry and who needed English for work. The Student Center (agency that intermediated the exchange) was always very attentive and presented some possibilities between Vancouver, Kelowna, Malta, England, Australia, among others. But the cost-benefit of Vancouver seemed more attractive, as a beautiful city and more affordable, in addition to the Student Center that spoke highly of the school (Van West) and the city. I screwed ...... For those who need English and expect total immersion as I expected, I suggest you avoid trendy places, especially Vancouver. To summarize, I arrived in Vancouver and found that the exchange here (since I am still on the last day) was a 3 x 2 m room rental at an Asian house (often Filipino or Chinese) that rent several rooms in the same house (from 3 to 5 students, like a republic), and in a complementary way in the classroom there would only be students aged 18 to 20 years (90% Asian) who do not speak anything or almost nothing in English. You take classes with good teachers (that is a fact) but do not practice anything conversational. When the class ends, you think you will practice your English on the streets of Vancouver ... don't go, because there are only Asian people with very bad English. When you think you are going home and can practice English at the "Home Stay" house .... you will not, because you are Asian with very bad English. That's when the house interacts with you, because in my case it was in a 3 x 2 m room until bedtime (as a more negative experience I had to change houses in the second week, because the first was a Filipina who was a terror !!!). I went to a Chinese house ... it got better ... but there was also no interaction. If I wanted to speak English I had to go to Vancouver's Pubs and Stores. To make matters worse, you enter a curricular grid of classes at the school (for those who do a 30-day exchange as I did) taking only 1/12 of the content, as the program is prepared for approximately 12 months (I did not enter raw, I entered level 5 of a total of 8, but added almost nothing). Well, here are my comments and summary: Vancouver is a city for those looking for a little tourism or for young people whose parents are paying for school for a period of 6 to 12 months. If you need full immersion English and have a short time, don't go to Vancouver. Look for a small town where there is no tourism. I guarantee you will learn much more. If it is through the Student Center, I suggest that you cover the professionals there with a greater characterization for your profile and what you want, because in my case they did not pay attention to that. If you go to Van West, only if it is in a period longer than 6 months, because less than that does not pay, as it will not add much more than the courses in Brazil. Hugs and good luck !!! Sempre precisei do inglês para o trabalho e resolvi largar a família em BH e dedicar ao estudo num intercâmbio no exterior, pois inglês nunca tinha sido prioridade na minha rotina e começou a me fazer muita falta. O relato abaixo serve tanto para avaliar a escola como o intercâmbio em Vancouver. Fechei o pacote de intercâmbio com a Central do Estudante (em BH) em 2017 e ainda mantive contato com eles por 1 ano, pois havia mudado de emprego em 2017 e tive que adiar meu intercâmbio para outubro de 2018. Sempre deixei bem claro meu perfil de pai de família, engenheiro com mais de 20 anos de indústria e que precisava do inglês para o trabalho. A Central do Estudante (agência que intermediou o intercâmbio) sempre foi bastante atenciosa e apresentou algumas possibilidades entre Vancouver, Kelowna, Malta, Inglaterra, Austrália, dentre outros. Mas o custo benefício de Vancouver pareceu mais atrativo, como uma bela cidade e custo mais em conta, além da Central do Estudante ter falado muito bem da escola (Van West) e da cidade. Me ferrei ...... Para quem precisa do inglês e espera imersão total como eu esperava, sugiro que evite locais badalados, principalmente Vancouver. Para resumir, cheguei em Vancouver e descobri que o intercâmbio aqui (pois ainda estou no ultimo dia) era um aluguel de uma quarto de 3 x 2 m em casa de asiático (muitas da vezes filipinos ou chinês) que alugam vários quartos na mesma casa (de 3 a 5 estudantes, como uma república), e de forma complementar na sala de aula teria apenas alunos de 18 a 20 anos (90% asiáticos) que não falam nada ou quase nada inglês. Você faz aula com bons professores (isso é fato) mas não pratica nada de conversação. Quando a aula termina, você acha que vai praticar seu o inglês nas ruas de Vancouver ... não vai, pq só tem asiático com um péssimo inglês. Quando vc acha que vai para casa e poder praticar o inglês na casa "Home Stay" .... tb não vai, porque tb são asiáticos com um péssimo inglês. Isso quando a casa interage com você, pois no meu caso ficava num quartinho de 3 x 2 m até dar a hora de dormir (como experiência mais negativa tive que trocar de casa na segunda semana, pois a primeira era uma Filipina que era um terror!!!). Fui para uma casa de chineses ... melhorou ... mas tb não havia interação. Se eu quisesse falar inglês tinha que ir aos Pubs e Stores de Vancouver. Para piorar você entra numa grade curricular de aulas na escola (para quem faz um intercâmbio de 30 dias como eu fiz) pegando apenas 1/12 do conteúdo, pois o programa é preparado para aproximadamente 12 meses (não entrei crú, entrei no nível 5 de um total de 8, mas não me agregou quase nada). Bom, fica aqui meus comentários e resumo: Vancouver é cidade para quem procura um pouco de turismo ou para jovens que os pais estão bancando escola durante um período de 6 a 12 meses. Se você precisa de inglês imersão total e tem curto período de tempo, não vá a Vancouver. Procure uma cidade pequena onde não tenha turismo. Garanto que aprenderá muito mais. Se for pela Central do Estudante sugiro que cobre dos profissionais de lá uma maior caracterização para seu perfil e pelo que deseja, pois no meu caso não se atentaram a isso. Se for para Van West, apenas se for num período superior a 6 meses, pois menos do que isso não compensa, pois não vai lhe agregar muito mais que os cursinhos do Brasil. Abraços e boa sorte !!! The school is located into a small building but I believe it is well organized. The staff is very friendly and helps all the students to do what they gotta do in order to keep the order and organization within the classes. Now that we're facing a pandemic there are some rules to follow but that helps so that everyone can feel safer. I enjoy when I go there and usually when I need something by advisor is fully prepared to help in any way possible. Thumbs up for the place.
