This college is just like the election game - promises everything but only 10% is given. Practicum is totally a joke - you are placed in 'somewhere" to kill time & learn nothing! Forces you to have class on a public holiday?! A total waste of money! Promises a lot on its flyer but don't trust them. Better use your money on pleasure! Go somewhere else. BCIT is cheaper and can land you a job.

This school will give you discounts to write a positive review. Don’t let these good reviews fool you, they’re nice until you’re enrolled. Then everything changes. They will avoid answering questions, ignore messages and emails for days- weeks at a time. The teachers are very unprofessional, and when this was brought to the attention of the school they decided to place the blame on the students. After reporting the behaviour of this teacher she proceeded to give me bad grades and be completely disrespectful to the point staff members where we did our clinical noticed. Even though multiple people had complained about this teacher. Nothing was done to fix the situation at all and our entire class was miserable for weeks on end because of it. Over all just a really horrible school. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Please save your money and go anywhere else. This is a very disorganized, family run college with a huge lack of instructors for students. I have gone through many instructors who were not competent, and been forced to spend money on extra added "mandatory" courses that DCC requires that are not related to my studies or required legally for the program. They do not advertise the true experience that they will give you. The college is accommodating to remote learning. Textbooks and materials required were fully organized and distributed. The instructors gave sufficient time to complete all assignments and readings, and an orientation was given on the first day to setup our remote learning system requirements.

I took a business IT program here at DCC. The online program was not ackward at all. The staffs, the instructors are genuinely caring and they have best interest at heart. However, that does not mean you will be guaranteed to receive a job offer. That is entirely up to your effort. You gotta show up, do homework, and become an adult without having anyone babysit you. Having completed both college and university I equipped myself with practical hands on experience through the internship. Take advantage of that. It really helped me build solid reference. Don't just wait for something to happen. Ask around and show initiative then you will get the opportunity you've been waiting for.

Overall, my experience at Discovery Community College was the best experience ever. They thoroughly teach you the softwares you need to succeed as a dental receptionist. ClearDent and PowerPractice, they teach these softwares and all attributes of dental receptionist so well and effective, so you are prepared for your practicum especially through the teaching of the instructor I had Jan Dhami. I am so glad I decided to become a dental receptionist at this college. The Instructor Ms.Dhami She’s very detailed and passionate about teaching. If you have Ms. Dhami as an instructor, you won’t be disappointed. She’s extremely organized and very responsive. She offers a lot of additional help and guidance to help with the process of becoming a dental receptionist and she goes out of her way to ensure her students are getting what they need. I am the most recent grad from Police Foundations Program. This program actually helped me a lot to begin the steps I needed to work in the Police Services in the Lower Mainland. I would recommend this Program to everyone who wants to get into some kind of Law Enforcement. Also, I would like to mention that after completing this program, two of my friends got into Corrections as well as VPD. It goes to show that the hard work you put in to your academics and into your community pays off. Its important to note that you do not need a degree from a university to get into law enforcement; it can start in your local community college. I am mentioning this because in the beginning i was thinking that local community college is nothing compare to the universities such as SFU, UBC and BCIT but believe it that i know people from Universities who could not get into law enforcement. therefore, I would recommend you to take the program from your local community and start off on your first step.

I have graduated from the Community Support Worker and Mental Health Worker Certificate courses this month. The courses were taught by individuals who were very knowledgeable in the studies and more importantly came with experience in the field to directly pass that first hand experience on to the students. Horrible experience. Overcharges for courses that were less than 10k everywhere else, including other private colleges. Curriculum poorly laid out and taught. Half the time, the teachers didn't even know what they were doing. My instructor spent most of her time on her phone planning her wedding and having students who further ahead helped students who needed help and struggled rather than helping. They also having Nothing designed for students that can speed through the curriculum; management treats you like a child in terms of attendance and time management, so welcome to an overpriced preschool. Also, most local employers in CR will not touch DCC credentials due to the poor quality of students they turn out. So beware.

Courses are not of much use and is not recognized anywhere. Might be good to top off an already nearly finished resume but it absolutely cannot be the bulk of your education. BCIT is cheaper and better. You cannot become a police officer or get hired on the west coast as a freight broker with these courses not by a long shot.
