*Updated* (please contact the College directly for further information) Braemar College is an international high school located at 229 College Street: Toronto's downtown hub. The location is perfect as there are many places to connect within the city. Prominent sites like the University of Toronto (St. George Campus), CF Eaton Centre, Financial District, Chinatown are within the College streets. The building consists of 5 floors: Toose art store (1st floor), UofT Student Services (2nd floor), Braemar College (3rd to 5th). My decision to transfer from a public Canadian secondary school to Braemar was a game-changer. The College does as much as it can to support you and make sure that you succeed in the short and long term. Both principals, Mrs. Lemieux and Ms. Schumacher are some of the kindest, warmest, inspirational leaders I've ever met. They always helped me strive my best through my academic growth, and I'm grateful that the College has such an inspiring administration. Educationally, the College offers the proper grounds for an ideal academic growth (mainly in social and geographic sciences). Unlike other institutions, the College follows a four-term system (five for summer school). Each term consists of 2 months and a half, and alumni can take up to 3 courses per day. Each class lasts around 3 hours as it is designed as a core course. I strongly advise any student looking to enroll at the College to get further information regarding the available courses, teachers available per field, teachers ratings from students, and the average number of students per the desired course (specifically Biology, Chemistry, Physics). Further, make sure that the courses you are enrolling in are available in the selected term. I had the honour to have met some of the most inspiring instructors from all around the globe. They will always look for your wellbeing and help you to achieve your needs. Regarding facilities, the College does not count with a physical science laboratory but a digital lab for STEM courses. The school does not have a gymnasium. Instead, students will go to Kensington Community School Jr. to use the sports court. Clubs and student organizations occasionally shift within terms (make sure to contact the Activities Director and lead groups for further details). There is no specific place to eat as the College does not have a cafeteria, and the rooms serve as classrooms, IT rooms, and performing arts rooms. Luckily, there is a wide range of local and international restaurants and cafés. Regarding housing, the College does not count with private dorms. Instead, there's a privately-owned residence called Campus One, which many alumni commonly rely on. If you would like to live with a local family (commonly referred to as homestay), please be aware that most of them are situated within a 25km-35km radius from the College (typically in North York, Scarborough, Toronto West End). I would recommend living in the downtown core as it is more comfortable and accessible to commute within the College and the city. In my experience, Braemar College offers excellent opportunities and connections globally, and it will depend on you on how to use most of your time. Take advantage of the great options, learning experiences (in and out of the College) to enrich your desired goals and experience a globally connected city. The change is in your hands to make.
I came here for the final year in high school in 2017. I had a great time here with great teachers ever, incredible service. I always got some fruits in break times here as a lucky person. I love them so much, especial the great Principal.
The best school I have ever been to. I was amazed by this not too big , but very friendly place. The amount of people in the classrooms varies from 6-24 , which gives an opportunity to communicate with a teacher freely ( even if it is 24 ppl). The teachers are outgoing. It is always fun to go through even the hardest materials as all in the classroom are very helpful . The structure of the classes is convenient (2-3 subjects per semester) because it gives time to understand the material thoroughly, do the homework and have some free time. The school has all the amenities you need. I am very appreciated that I was a part of such a great team for 3 years. Very Recommend.
I've taken all my Grade 11 courses from Braemar and had to go to another private high school, and I'm pretty sad about it. Braemar College was/is very good; the staff here is amazing and friendly. Especially some teachers are very funny and have a sense humor, and they make the student feel the term was so fast that you didn't even find time to study. If you take computer science class make sure you don't play a game named SpaceX landing simulator: the teacher hates it for no known reason. I had been playing it throughout the class and s/he(no specific person specified) was pretty upset with it. Also I must add one thing; some students and teachers are a total Googlephile(including my very own self) so make sure you are familiar with Google Services.
a school who puts students first
Hated the school, made good friends and teachers management really needs to work on it self
I have recently graduated from this high school and I'd like to say a few words about it to help others to get an inside look of Braemar. I'm going to talk from my personal experience which was, overall, incredible. With Braemar's help, I've significantly improved my English skills, interpersonal skills, and gained a huge amount of knowledge. I've made myself some friends from all around the world that will last me a lifetime and got to learn interesting aspects of various different cultures. However, choosing this school includes the number of responsibilities that a student would have to deal with. I would compare this experience to being a freshman. A student has to make many choices that will greatly affect their future life; which is not a bad thing but it's also not something a lot of people have to face at the early age. Personally, I can clearly see how being an international student for 3 years changed me. The school is very urban and located in the heart of the city. Due to its small size, most of the staff members get to personally know most of the students and visa verse. Every single member of the guidance council is friendly and caring: a student could talk to them about any issue at any time. All of the teachers at Braemar are smart, talented, and educated (referencing one of our classes). To be honest, some of the teachers are the most interesting individuals I know and I'm very honored to have met them. I believe that a huge part of a student's learning experience depends solely on the teacher and, at Braemar, they do a great job of making it entertaining and unforgettable. For instance, during my last term there it so happened that I had to deal with a ridiculous amount of stress but I was not left behind, I got all the support I needed from the school. All in all, the crew does everything to welcome their students and make them feel at home. The school is very active outside of the class too: some events are held (e.g. the celebrations of Halloween or Christmas) and classes frequently go on field trips. There is a Student Council that's responsible for the Funday Fridays and Talent Shows which help to relax from the stress of the everyday life. Also, In Ontario, a student needs 40 volunteer hours to graduate and Braemar provides different options, e.g. joining the Terry Fox run or helping the homeless at the Scott Mission. I know it's quite a long post but I just wanted to help other students and their parents with their research. All in all, after my 2.5 years studying here, I would 100% recommend Braemar College to a friend. :)
Really nice teachers :)
Great school. They do prepare you for the future.
The type of place that you sometimes hate during your study period and absolutely miss and love after graduation. My buddies and most of the teachers really left an everlasting memory in my heart. Obviously, as any other place there were some flaws but overall it was and still is a great school :)
Congratulations
Moving to Canada and adjusting was a really hard process for me but Braemar College made this experience much more enjoyable and memorable because of its atmosphere. In Braemar everyone can help you with anything, whenever you’re not in a good mood you can go and talk with Braemar great; hardworking staff and teachers who are always there to help you with anything and make you feel better. Every morning when I’m going to school I’m sure that I’m going to have so much fun there. Thanks for not only teaching me but also preparing me for this long road ahead called life.
I was studying in Braemar only 1 year (12th grade) and I made a right choice to study here. Only positive experience. Teachers are attentive to students and eager to help. If you have any questions or problems the staff will always help you to address them.
I went to Braemar College for my grade 12. And I believe it was the best choice I made ever. They have teachers and staffs who are dedicated and love their job.
Terrible school ever.
