On March 26, 2018 I sent an email to Vanguard College and asked "Does your school teach a literal Genesis including 6 days of creation?" College President Eric Derksen emailed back "Good morning. I am curious why you are asking about this question? Why Vanguard? The answer is yes. We believe in a historical Adam and Eve, and a historical week of creation. We recognize that the Bible is neither a history book (though it is historical) nor a science book. We also recognize that the literality of 6 days of creation is not essential for salvation, even though we teach it as historical. There are some things that we simply accept as true, whether or not we can explain it. We allow for a sense of mystery in our theology." I emailed back and sent President Derksen a link to a site which provides a list of universities, colleges and seminaries which teach a literal Genesis, including six day young earth creation. I pointed that Vanguard college is not on this list. I also asked why, if the answer to my question is "yes", does the curriculum vitae of evolutionist Denis Lamoureux, author of I Love Jesus and I Accept Evolution, indicate that he lectures at Vanguard College. President Derksen responded "He teaches in Science and religion - and does not teach a course, he teaches a class in a course about alternative views. I really dont care about what lists we are on or not - obviously someone did not do their homework but just made assumptions, which leads to the suspect nature of the list in the first place. When people say things about us and dont actually know what they are talking about - I readily and summarily dismiss them. I responded "Had you checked out the link which I sent in my last email you would have known that this site says NOTHING about Vanguard College good, bad or indifferent. It does NOT say that if a college isn't on this it means that they do not qualify to be on the list and in fact states that colleges should let them know whether or not the college should or should not be on the list." This list was last updated on January 4, 2019 and Vanguard is still not on the list and the site still says "If you believe your school should (or should not) be included on this list, please contact us." You can draw your own conclusions about all of this but, whether or not you decide to go Vanguard, I strongly suggest that you google "Biblical Creation Ministries" and you will find an abundance of resources which support the Bible and will strengthen your faith.

Vanguard College is a great school. It's a Bible College that is all about developing Innovative, Spirit filled leaders and the professor's are fantastic. There is a huge sense of community in the school and you can approach almost anyone in the hallway for prayer and receive it. God is definitely working at Vanguard College and I would recommend to anyone that is interested in getting deeper into their relationship with God and/or one day being a part of ministry.
