Kinda weird.
Delicious food and absolutely stunning views. Worth the drive from Skagway
Great Food and quick service
I'm moving to the Yukon ... or at least coming back to explore this fascinating place in an RV for several weeks! One of the most interesting and continually marveling days I've ever spent sightseeing and I'm now sporting several bruises from having to pinch myself to work out which century I'm actually living in. After driving near the footsteps of the panhandlers up White Horse Pass and through the tundra countryside, we came to an incredible place down a track meandering through the wilderness called Caribou Crossing Trading Post - our lunch stop on our White Horse Pass tour and a fascinating sightseeing venture. About 50 sled dogs greeted us with friendly smiles and joyful howls as they waited - many already in their sled traces - to set out on a rocky instead of snowy adventure. I opted out of the bumpy ride deciding I'd wait 'til I can do it on that powdery white stuff instead! But I did manage to cuddle a pair of cute three week old puppies who were very happy to pose for pictures as well as pat a very blue eyed boy eager to set out for his turn to lead the pack. But for me the highlight of this wilderness outpost was to walk through two very unimpressive saloon-style doors and down a passageway to then spill out into a massive garage-style shed and be confronted with the best display of taxidermy animals in the world! Literally! They've been classed as one of the finest and you'd swear every single one of a display of scores of different species were still alive. I even had the sense of being back in the Ice Age with a gigantic woolly mammoth standing in all his glory with tusks raised and mouth open wide right in front of me. Not to be outdone, the largest polar bear ever found and now stuffed stared you down, along with some bison, woolly mountain goats with pure white heavy coats, a pack of fierce wolves attacking three huge elk, grizzlies fighting each other or just staring you down and every other bear of these ice cold tundra plains pitting themselves against their enemies, along with tiny albino squirrels, snowshoe rabbits, a pair of lynx, trumpeter swans, eagles, and many other bird varieties along with every Canadian/Alaskan animal found in this gorgeous region. A moose standing over three metres tall and a pair of very large musk ox with their tiny baby were other additions to this wonderful collection. What amazed me most was the perfect plumage and fur coats with none of the normal unrealistic bumps of any other displays I've seen even in renowned museums of the world. Most were found dead of natural causes and brought in or were killed out of necessity due to a "bad streak" but none killed just for the sake of it. The gifted creator of these works of art is a true craftsman. As our guide said, "Can you believe something so stunning as this is can only be found in the middle of a wilderness where 99.9% of the world's population have no idea it exists!" I couldn't agree more. Well worth a visit and make sure you take your camera along!
Great pizza and service as well.
Loved their museum.
Had a lunch at this place in our Yukon trip. Visited the museum and Goat centre.
Outstanding tour to the Yukon! Guide was incredible! From her comment about needing to use the "Facilitrees" to our bear encounter (a bear ran into our bus - let me be clear, we did not hit the bear, it hit us), to her moose face. She provided history and humor in nearly equal parts. I have got to look up her name and the company to add to this posting but for now, if you see her, remind her of the bear encounter.
Amazing food, good donuts, husky rides, and a big taxidermy museum. They also sell skins if you're into that sort of thing. Also, keep your eyes up on the mountain, you might see something move. ????
I had a great time.would love to go back
An enjoyable bbq lunch, staff and petting zoo. The dogs were fun on the ride and there were puppies!
Excellent stop on our excursion in Skagway. I have dietary restrictions and they'd run out of the vegetarian option for lunch which also covers gluten free and dairy free. The staff went out of their way to bring me a wonderful meal that may have even come from a personal kitchen. They really went above and beyond. I only wish I'd been able to spend a bit more time here.
Interest place... lots to see and do.
Neat place in the middle of nowhere.
Lunch during a cruise excursion. Fun spot to see sled dogs and pet some puppies
Open in the summer,Carbon Crossing attracts tourists and locals alike. Located 45 minutes from Whitehorse or about an hour and 30 minutes from Skyway Alaska you will see tourists from both sides of the border. There is a gift shop with Yukon items including clothing and toys. A full restaurant which primarily services bus tours and a cafe which serves sandwiches or snacks like ice cream. The real attraction though is the live animals. You can pet horses, llamas, goats, and cute husky puppies. If you're up for seeing how huskies love to run you can book a mini sled pull where they have a team pull a side by side converted for guests. If you are looking to get close to larger and more dangerous animals you can do that too. There is an exhibit with bears and various wild cats that are showcased. Finally if animals aren't your thing, try your hand ar gold panning where you could catch some real gold with a steady hand, a good eye, and some patience!
Great friendly staff
Yay! We made it to #CaribouCrossing for lunch and more fun on the #KlondikeHighway #NCLExcursion We had a great time!! Wonderful lunch and so many things to do and see! Bling Blinky of Texas Shout Out: Make that trip up the Klondike Highway! You will love Caribou Crossing too! Family Fun - Don’t miss it!
This is such a cool place. I'm so glad our excursion included a stop at Caribou Crossing. The dogs were incredible. Their energy as they wait anxiously to take their next group out on the sled was amazing.
Nice stop on our drive out of Skagway 7 tours buses from the cruises in own :/ Our 2yr old loved all the stuffed animals in the exhibit so it was worth the money for us he also loves the loud sled dogs so that was worth it as well Good coffee and overall nice place
The taxidermy museum is super! The lunch was "rudimentary" but wholesome. The dogs were a bit of a disappointment.
Very nice museum and stop over to pet and feed the horses, donkeys and Huskies puppies
Good place to enjoy with the family, if you are coming on a tour with the ship, be aware that is a 2 hours drive from Skagway and you will need your passport die to borders crossing. They offer a meal with the tour, that if you do not like, you can buy your own. Activities for the whole family to do and dogsled available in several timings. Book your ticket as soon as you arrive due to the high demand of it. 15 minutes ride and dogs love to take the guests around.
Small and cute. I didn't pay to see the dogs.
(Translated) Good and simple quick lunch. A little sad the rest. (Original) Buen y simple lunch rápido. Un poco triste el resto.
Very interesting place to visit..dog sledding, petting, zoo, cafe, museum, ice-cream parlour, very friendly people.
Fake tourist attraction. Food second rate. Dogs were interesting. Give the place a miss !
Really cool place to visit.
Great place for kids
Loved it here! A little bit of everything in one place.
Amazing taxidermy exhibit and small zoo
What a fun little place.
Not a bad stop on your way to the Yukon. Stopped there first week of July, it was hot and a light of the animal attractions were closed due to the heat. If it had been cooler it would have been much better. They could use a larger dining selection, they only had 3 premade wraps when we were there (4 of us) 2 were veggie wraps.
This place is a must visit one for summer and even in winter just good for a long ride....views...
What a joke paid for the white pass train train ride instead got 6 hours on a bus total rip off
Dog sled rides and husky puppies. The chicken dinner was just ok.
Not big but what is there is pretty cool. The food was great.
Really cool little stop you should definitely hit up when touring around the area. There's a museum, a petting zoo, gold nugget sifting (like in "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs"), husky rides, UNLIMITED doughnuts, decent beer, and good coffee and ice cream. Bathrooms are somewhat terrifying but hey still better than the out houses at most of the stops along the way ???? but my advice would be to drink more than you eat on these long tours. The husky rides are great, and just to clear a misconception I heard from someone while I was there, the doggos only whine when they want to go for a run and don't get to, it's not because they don't want to do it - they actually really enjoy the exercise. So grab a ride and don't feel bad! On a random note, I'm about 80% sure the two mountain goats on the nearby cliff are fake, because they never moved a muscle at any point.
As privite one ,the museum is way bigger as i thought of
(Translated) Horrible food, scarce, expensive and terrible attention from the staff. The museum and gift shop are fine. (Original) Horrible la comida, escasa, cara y pésima atención del personal. El Museo y la tienda de regalos están bien.
Fun place, nice folks and lunch was good!
Stopped here on out tour of the Yukon. Had lunch which was decent. The home made donuts were awesome. Watched the dog sleds were awesome. Nice museum
Great food, fun activities like dogsled tours, wonderful museum, including a big collection of taxidermies. Very cool.
Fun place but left some to be desired
Great pizza and baked goods and great for a family day.
Great fun.
Many things to do and all the Animals to see
Kids love it, great value.
My kids loved holding the puppies!
A lot of fun. Don't make the mistake of missing the wildlife museum!
Motorized dog sled?
What a fun tourist trap
5 stars for the husky puppies alone
Great amenities. Wonderful atmosphere and friendly people. Food is okay, nothing uniquely Canadian. No wifi that's apparent.
Great place, friendly staff. The buildings feel pretty authentic and the exhibits are very well laid out.
Nice place to stop and see.
Neat stop
Nice place
Great stop for a quick lunch (tour bus group) and to check out the sled puppies and dogs, petting zoo, wildlife museum, and ice cream if you so desire. Great bbq chicken lunch with the best cinnamon donuts I’ve ever eaten!
A quaint village trading post with lots of tourist baubles.
Had a great time. Heat of summer and still got to get pulled by the dogs. Musher was great and loved the dogs. " easy to tell"
Wonderful trip, Excellent. Worth the trip.
Wonderful place
good place to visit
Amazing, unexpected gem. The sled ride is one not to miss. The crew there was fantastic.
Was part of our cruise tour. Just ok food and total tourist trap.
Loved this place!
Love it! Lots of choices of fun items Collectibles and clothing.
A fun place to visit during a drive through the Yukon.
Enjoyed the food, loved the dogs, and the museum was great.
The puppies were so tiny and soft!
Interesting little tourist trap in the Yukon. The taxidermy stuff is good, the rest is average.
This place is awesomeeeeee!!! So relaxing and a great experience for anyone from the south. Really enjoy the food, and the attractions
Cute place to visit. They have a dog sled camp where you can ride a short distance with the dogs pulling you on a wheeled cart. You can see the puppies as well. Small animal petting zoo with goats and alpacas. Gift shop. We ate lunch in a covered wagon outside.
You can see a lot of animals so that is awesome and makes it a really good experience and a most go place
Great spot for souvenirs
I loved the puppies and all the animals super cute place
We took a tour through Southeast Tour company and we stopped here for good food, to see the husky's and to get a dog sled ride. Everyone was so pleasant and we had such a great time. They also had a really neat animal museum.
We stopped here on our road trip from Alaska to Yukon Territory. Cute and fun place to visit , my kid love this place , she got to feed horses , alpaca and goats . We had a great time here .
Found them rude. No signs for parking. Parked our truck and travel trailer and was told to move. That parking was only for buses. Absolutely no buses arrived while we were there. Total tourist trap that only caters to bus loads of people. Highly reccomend to keep your money.
Stopped in here heading back out of the Yukon and really enjoyed the visit. A lot of interesting background on the RCMP and the taxidermy collection was very well documented and displayed. We didn't do the sled dog bit but it looked fun. Getting to play with the Alaskan Husky puppies of course were just awesome. Some people call it a tourist trap but I disagree completely and feel it's disingenuous. The admission price is fair for the couple of hours you will spend there and buying things at a gift shop or having a snack at the bakery is pretty much how 99% of tourist places work!
Greedy alpacas, aggressive goats, grumpy donkeys, elegant Spirit… always feel refreshing after visiting there. Food is awesome too by the way.
In the middle of nowhere family oriented, good peopple, interesting things to see.
It was closed when we went there but seems they have a lot to share
Good food but limited menu.
Quiet 300 member community serves as a truck stop. One of the places having restrooms with running water.
Fun to see.
Beautiful place! Very hospitable owners. Staff very friendly.
Covered wagon seating for lunch and food was good. Friendly people. Did not get to spend enough time but clean bathrooms and neat gift shop for souvenirs. Reasonably priced items so I bought more than I should have ????
Great place - in the middle of amazing widerness
Good cup a Joe!
Good place with a small zoo and we were surprised to get hot dal chawal bread tea coffee baked potatoes as we are Vegetarian.
Neat place
We stopped here on our way from Alaska, small little town. Local shops are great and friendly people
It's a great place to see some Caribous and Dall sheep's in the City of Carcross (formerly Caribou Crossing). The place was deserted after 4pm as most visitors from Skagway visit there between 9 and 4. The place is well defined and possesses he true Alaskan Heritage. They also have a nice Ice cream shop including traditional Alaskan jewelry, artifacts and other traditional items. We enjoyed our time there.
Lots of nice metal carved items. Big selection.
Enjoyed the lunch and animals. Entering was a nightmare, however. Took 20 min before they would let us off the bus.
Fake
What a fun place! I loved seeing the sled dog puppies and going for a ride on a cart pulled by a team of dogs!
Loved the puppies.
Fun stop in a sparse populated gem of mother nature
Beautiful sights
Fun place to stop !
Fun place to stop for a break on the drive to/from Skagway.
Ahh Caribou I loved you the other two times I have visited but this time it was very lackluster. We got there as soon as the place opened and after paying the fee to visit the taxidermy area and the live animals it just wasn't as good as I remembered. They only had a few sled dog puppies but they really weren't puppies, more rambunctious teenagers. Everyone seemed so busy getting the place ready to open, even though it was past the posted opening time, that we really weren't greeted in a warm fashion by anyone as they were taking animals out of the barn and setting up for the day. We weren't even asked nor given the option to buy food to feed to the animals and the trays were you would normally by the food were empty. I just think that they should be ready to go with the posted opening time. Then we went in to get a cinnamon roll at the bakery and they weren't done yet. She said she still had to make the icing so we bought an average donut and we were on our way. The drive-up from Skagway is beautiful though
Very cool place to visit
Rib off
Had a great time
We only dealt with the pups and they seemed in great condition. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
What an adventure. Spend the day with some of the finest athletes. These are Iditarod dogs at their summer training camp
Interesting place, definitely going to visit again.
The bbq was really good. Great animal museum. The puppies were awesome. Many options in the gift shop with reasonable prices.
Great trip with good view.
Vacation was awesome. Barbecue lunch was great!!
It's a great place to visit. It has lots of interesting factors about the area of Carcross and surrounding area..
Good food, loved the cider, and we got some souvenirs.
Learning about the area and seeing local crafts were the highlights.
Cool museum, tasty an simple food. Kids enjoy ponies and dogs????
A great experience for the family. Lots to do around the place. Fun activities for all members of the family. See the dogs! A
Had a great time. Was part of our Yukon train trip back to Skagway Alaska. Good lunch. Good people. Lots to see.
Nice little place
Was ok. Food was good.
Slade with dogs!
Great food, awesome people, awesome animals!
Friendly staff and lots of cool things to see
Real nice. Their mounts are amazing. The dogs are great and the puppies are so cute
Supposedly just a lunch stop and a visit to the animal petting farm. But there's also a dog sledge when we're there in July at $30 per pax for about <10mins ride. Worth the experience for a first visit tourist like me.
Wonderful! Puppies, sled dog ride, barbecue, museum, and gift shop! Hooray!
Enjoyable day
a great trip must do if ever in Skagway Ak. a beautiful trip over the mountains.we saw bear, moose, and some of the prettiest water on the planet. We took a tour guide bus heard some h istory about the area, the lady bus driver had sharp eyes for the wild animals.
Beautiful taxidermy. Am told one gentleman who ran a gas station did the work. Not a high end facility, but the animals are perfect specimens.
Awesome, patient staff that let us interact with the husky puppies! We had so much fun!
First, when you get to caribou crossing we had just 15 min to find the food, get our food and eat before our dog sled. Then we got rushed over to the sled. My reading of the dog sled stated they talk to you first about the dogs and what they do. We received NONE of that! We were put on a large razor! With at least 10 to 12 other people. So this was NO sled experience at all! No one helped me or my family with our seat belts or even checked them so ours were loose and we ended up bumping our heads on the bars above the whole time! My family was split up and we couldn’t even enjoy the trip together! Really? We came on the trip to be together! I sat alone. Then the other 4 of us were all in different rows. Then after, as I read previously, we went to find and hold the puppies. We found the puppies behind a fence and a girl that told us they only let a couple of people pet the puppies a day. You have to find a golden bone in order to pet the puppies. They put a couple of them out a day. With a limited amount of time there, how can we do that? So you can look at the puppies ONLY! My daughter then hurried to all the stores trying to find the lucky bone. She finally found one and went back and the girl let her in the gate to see the puppies but told her “you can only pet them and not pick them up”. Really? What is the point then? Pretty sure she did this just to be mean- because why find a bone then- if you cant even hold a puppy? All the other dog sled experiences have pictures of people holding puppies and riding in an actual sled. I understand if it is to hot and the dogs can’t run but it was cold when we were there. My sister did a dog sled excursion only on the same day I did mine. She was in a sled- sitting with her family. They got to pet the dogs that pulled them. We didn’t. They got to hold puppies and didn’t have to run and all over finding a BONE! So if you want a real experience like you see- don’t do the dog sled at caribou crossing!!! At least take off the pictures of people holding and petting the puppies on your site and riding on a sled. Put the razor on there and the puppies behind a fence!!!!
Great place
Buy from there. Half the price compare to carcross!
Stopped here on an excursion. Favourite part was visiting the husky puppies and pomskis. Would not pay the exorbitant fee to go "dog sledding" for 15 minutes. The provided lunch was quasi-edible.
Food was good got to watch dogsleding
Great place!
Cool place to visit!
Neat little place to stop. Our tour guide stopped here for lunch- Baked potatoes, dhal and rice. Kids went on a sled ride and got to pet the puppies.
Neat,beautiful, intetesting.
Great area. So much too see here. Must see location!
This place is just ok. It's a very long 2 hour ride from Skagway, and while the scenery was spectacular in places, the 2 hour ride back seems endless. If you go, be sure you buy the add on package where you get to interact with the dogs and ride on a vehicle pulled by the dogs. We were the only ones on our trip to do this (didn't even know we had!). For the rest of the group it was like an uninspiring trip to a petting zoo. The young staff who take care of the dogs were very friendly and freely answered all our questions. I didn't get why everyone who pays to go here doesn't get the close-up experience? The dogs love the interaction and it was the most enjoyable part of the day.
Felt this was a HUGE tourist trap. The dogs for the dog sled ride seemed mis-treated. Couldn't wait to leave!!!
Fun fun fun
Great. Friendly. Lots to see.
Good restaurant in remote area. Museum is worth visiting.
Excellent food, great place. BTW the goats are fake.
Handy little place to visit just inside the Yukon border. Nice attractions for young and old alike. Kinda neat to eat while sitting in the old chuck wagons. The sled dogs and other animals appeared very sociable.
Great place to visit. Unfortunately just not enough time when we visited with a tour group.
Wonderful place! They had a good lunch and interesting place to see
It's not a bad place but not great either. Too long of a drive, food is mediocre. They have petting zoo with like 10 animals. The taxidermy museum is good but nothing that you have not seen if you have been in a Natural History Museum like the Smithsonian. The staff is helpful and nice. We didn't ride the sleds because what I saw was a extralong four wheeler pulled by the dogs. Not impressed at all. Just the scenery in the way there and back.
The dog sled was great. Staff was very caring to the dogs.
Barbecue with our tour was not worth it
Awesome experience! Great for kids, got to cuddle husky puppies. Dog sled ride was really fun, and the food was pretty good.
The Huskies are amazing, and the pups are adorable and friendly as well.
This was a nice stop after our train and bus ride. I loved seeing the puppies! So cute! There were other animals as well. Lunch was good. The gift shop was large and had a great variety.
Friendly staff great coffee and donuts! Best pizza I’ve ever had!! The herbed crust is Delicious! Pictured is the Veggie pizza with red peppers instead of green with added banana peppers ! Wow would highly recommend!
A great stopping place. Lots of little shops, interpretive center and Canadian made crafts. Time well spent
Cool place
Good food neat and educational.
Beautiful must see
Cool excursions
Beautiful setting
Had a decent meal at tour stop. Got to see sled dogs, goats and a variety of other animals. Also a museum of other stuffed animals.
The dog teams, what a hoot!
Lots to look at, good lunch. People friendly and informative
It was lots of fun to see all the animals.
