Here you will see all the opinions of real people like you who purchase the products and services of Big Bear Donair (Coffee Shop) in the territory close to Whitehorse (Canada).
At this moment the firm has a score of 4.4 over 5 and the score has been based on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that its rating is really positive, and it's based on a large number of feddbacks, so we can be quite sure that the rating is quite credible. If many people have bothered to give their review when they are happy with the business, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to set reviews when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Coffee Shop belongs to the category of Middle Eastern restaurant.
Ordered Poutine and tried for first time, honestly it was so delicious.Veggies in poutine with garlic sauce brings the best of Big bear
I'm not quite a regular. But I am a returning customer. It's tasty. I like it. Staff are nice. I wish they had lamb. Otherwise it's a very tasty establishment.
Pretty nice patio outside. Food was tasty and not too pricey. Had the chicken shawarma poutine. Just the half order was filling. Lots of flavour. Paid for the extra jalapenos and onions. Would eat here again.
Absolutely love this place. Awesome wodden slab tables to sit at , delicious foods. Try the Shawarma Poutine , I highly recommend it.
Tried the diablo donair which my boyfriend said was one of the best Donairs he’s ever had (and he’s from the East coast of Canada) and the falafel which was equally as good. Really quick and friendly service. The seating area has a great vibe. Clean and covid friendly restaurant. We will definitely be going back. Delicious house made sauces and all toppings looked freshly cut and prepared.
Amazing food. Kind staff. Large portions. Great place would go again a million times over. Wish they had this place in my town.
Great food! The Shwarma Poutine was aaamazing! So was the Greek Donair and the Greek Salad was one of the best I've ever had.
Probably the best donair I've ever had. A bit on the pricey side but that's the price for a damn good donair
Best restaurant North of 60
Worst donair I ever had.. portion small for price (the size of regular donair cost 5$ in Edmonton) pita was like a rubber. Ordered extra cheese, didn't get one. And when I open garlic fries, first what I found was bunch of black hairs..
Good food friendly people open late and beautiful interior you can tell the owner really cares about this place. A lot of heart went onto making it welcoming.
Fun atmosphere, food is frikking delicious ????????, service is always friendly. “The Greek” donair is a favourite or “El Diablo” if you like a little spice in your life ????. Love the Schwarma poutine and the portions are generous! Go here! Eat in or take out, you’ll be glad you did.
It's a public favorite. Good selection, tasty food and descent service. I do think the price is a little jacked up. But still recommend it to everyone.
Sorry but just not good. Drytough chicken shawarma, horrible sauces. The donair is manufactured stuff and that sweet sauce is just nasty. I guess if you're used to late night after drinking eating and you don't care.
The chicken shawarma was the best in a long time! Very fresh ingredients, friendly helpful staff, and great portion sizes. I was very impressed with the food and after being on the road for a while, the fresh ingredients, warm inviting atmosphere and friendly staff made the trip so much better. Thank you so much for a wonderful meal!
Omg so good!! I got the falafel donair, it was huge! I was starving so hit the spot :) Great service!
It was late at night and these guys helped me pick out the wrap that was perfect for me. I ate it and promptly ordered a second one right away. So good. I'll be back.
Best poutine in town! Haven't been let down yet, I recommend the shawarma chicken poutine! It is very filling though so maybe split a large or be prepared to bring some home!
Can't visit Whitehorse without eating here! The Del Diablo is by far the best donair I've ever had.
I wish we had one of these in Toronto, they do a great job of putting a modern twist on the typical donair and shawarma. The Jalapeno Candy Apple sauce is excellent and should become a permanent item on the menu. This place is all about mindset, if you go in wanting traditional food you'll leave disappointed, if you go in thinking I want food with flavor you'll fall in love.
This small restaurant has great food. We tried a few different dishes and they were all excellent. Best falafal I've ever had. If I lived in Whitehorse I would go through the whole menu.
Great beer, great staff and a killer Halifax-style donair! Best I’ve had in the west! The location is a little rough around the edges, but totally worth the venture for mid day, dinner or late night eats! Craft beer selection is pretty good too!
Service
EDIT: Just because I made the review at 2am does not mean that's when I tried to eat at your establishment. I was outside of the locked gate at 11:45. At that time, doors were locked, lights were off, trash bag in front of bar... Like I said, you were closed for a while. EDIT #2: I even went into the liquor store next door to buy a beer for my "dinner" since you decided to not honor your business hours. And when I mentioned it to the employees inside, they agreed that "you must've closed early." Eaten here before and food was good. 2 stars because hours are not correct. I got into town late and wanted to revisit. No cell reception to call ahead and place an order to pick up, so I walked several blocks from my hotel. Got there 15 minutes before closing and it looks like they were closed for a while(trash bags in front of the bar, everything was locked up).
Best restaurant in town. Great customer service 99% of the time. They go above and beyond, sometimes, to please their customers. Seriously, I have several stories as such.
Very big donairs and and poutine! Definitely one of the tastiest options of food in whitehorse and you really get what you pay for!
Good service, but the donairs were just ok. I'm from NS where donairs where invented. These are close, but the donairs are over seasoned.
Fantastic place. The food was delicious and the two guys behind the counter were very kind and helpful. You cant go wrong with this place (the falafel pita is amazingggg)
Take out
The falafel was really good, the beef shawarma could have been improved. It was a very generous portion, I'd recommend the regular size donair. The feta was good too and had a stronger taste than average. The heavily fortified exterior was a little weird! I'll be stopping by again, though.
What is a donair shop doing in the yukon you ask? ROCKING THE NORTH! This shop was amazing they had a great selection of different donairs and shawarma! And they had all the local beers on tap! 10/10 great food!
Unfortunately over time, Big Bear Donair has started to take short cuts with their products and have stepped away from what made them above and beyond. They no longer use freshly shaved meat off the spit, and now preshave their donair meat yielding dry and juiceless leather strips. Shredded lettuce has become lettuce chunk. The classic is lacking in the tomato and onion department. Sizes and how the donair is wrapped has degraded. One star for the smooth sweet sauce. Be better.
Food is good, everything on the menu is good, and HOT DAMN, that kid with the blonde hair is hott. I rate your restaurant fire emoji out of 10, keep it up.
A bit more than I'd usually pay, but it is in the Yukon after all. Fresh ingredients, made properly, and there is an "east coast" option! As good as I've ever had in Halifax. I'll be going back for sure!
Big Bear Donair is a great place to get an authentic Halifax donair. The meat is a perfect blend of spices and was tender and juicy. The sweet sauce is authentic as well. This Nova Scotian gives it two thumbs up! Plus there's a super cool mural of Jimi Hendrix right outside!
A cool funky place for a quick lunch that will not burn a hole in your pocket. The quality of meat is pretty good. The donairs are juicy and filling. However donot expect wifi here. More on the pic ???? Pro tip: If you are looking for spicy food, you are in heaven here
Food was good. Service left me feeling confused and irritated. No direction. No welcoming, very abrupt questioning. Off sales side very friendly and helpful.
Food ranges from good to excellent day to day. Prices are reasonable. Beer selection is fantastic. The service is quick and friendly. Oh, they even have a cool rewards program. Definitely a good place to eat. (Also have veggie/ vegan options. )
Fun staff good food. Took my dad here for his first Donair. We both loved it but next time I'll do the custom donair, so many choices and I didn't see it until after I had eaten! ????????
The food is amazing. I was really hungry and ordered the big one and it was too much. They are very well served. Highly recommend.
Great food and great atmosphere. Very well maintained. The decor is great, I especially love all the wood style furnishings. The food was on point, delicious and expertly prepared.
Great falafels, cool and casual atmosphere, and conveniently attached to the off-sale. Wraps hefty enough to be two meals ????
Fast and friendly staff. Great food and selection. Even when the place is hopping you can get your order quick. If you like donairs, this is the place. If you've never had one, the staff will direct you to a tasty sensation. Licenced.
Heard all the hype and tried the place... would not eat again. Got a donair that had a very non donair taste to it. WAY too much sauce and stuff packed in it... it was near impossible to eat in my vehicle without having to take a shower after... Wife felt the same way about her order (I can't remember what she got but similar). The staff were more interested in chatting to each other loudly in their local language and hung out for a good 10 minutes before even making my order... just an overall meh experience
I went here for the first time two years ago and have been waiting to come back to Whitehorse to eat here again. This time I had to go twice to satisfy my craving. The falafel and yam fries tossed in garlic are the best, and the local beer on tap is a nice touch.
I love the chicken shawarma. I've had it twice, both times delicious! My son had the poutine which he said was okay but not great. He finished it though. My husband had a Mexican schwarma, (forgot the name) which was fair. Great patio dining, good beer selection of Yukon Brewing. Excellent, fast friendly service! Cool signs.
food is delicious but the staff are unkept and rude, very dismissive and the space was not very clean. would be a lot better if they put more energy into it list they used to
Food was great. Big portions, order the regular, large is too much unless your really hungry
The food is good but the service was horrible. The girl preparing the food blatantly ignored repeated requests to modify the order and was rude thereafter. Update: Thanks to the management for a prompt and gracious reply. Updated rating to 4 stars. Reserving the 5th star to when I visit again.
Service is nice but spotty. It's essentially self serve but they were behind on refilling their glasses and water. One of the two times there they forgot part of our order. The food was great and they worked to fix what was wrong.
The taste I give 5 stars. The portion 1 star. The price 1 star. The portion 15% meat 85% vegetables. I buy donairs for the meat not the vegetables. If I want all vegetables I would of ask for a vegi wrap. And for what you get way over priced Never Eat there again not impressed.
A cute little place to have a yummy and healthy donair. Friendly comfortable vibe. Definitely a must have while in Whitehorse!
The food is great! There's a bit of a wait as they make the food to order but it's worth it. A bit on the pricy side in my opinion. But they are open late.
We went there, It was so unhygienic. There was hair in my food.
Unique place to eat at! Really great food and service. The only suggestion I would make is the tin foil used to wrap the Donairs is thicker. It is extremely messy to eat as the tin foil literally falls apart apart way to fast. Other than that this is a "must go" ppac to eat!
I've gotten the big bear 3 times in 5 days, would have been more but it kept me full for that long
Obviously this place rules! (I don't need to tell you this) Like the other zillion people who love it here - go have some of the best takeout in Whitehorse!
This place is amazing and the people are great! I wish it was in a different location, some gummy homeless woman blew snot rockets next to our table.
Poutine was ok, donair was bland. Service wasn’t that great.
BEST FAST FOOD IN TOWN! The ingredients are fresh and ever so tasty, and the service is fantastic! The people are friendly, funny, and they serve your meal with a dash of sass. The hand designed wooden decor is a beauty, and they have a deadly assortment of hot sauces to spice up your donair. Hands down, best place to eat, PLUS they serve local beer and are open late!
Glad to see donairs make it to the north! Had "The East Coaster" - a classic Nova Scotia-style wrap. Would like the sauce to be sweeter, but otherwise tasty. The restaurant is licenced, and has cool decor. Restaurant also has Shawarma, Falafel, salads, and a decadent sounding Shawarma Poutine. And an attached beer and wine store!
Went there for garlic fries and got just garlic. Now my heart is burning ♥️????. Just a suggestion for future please put some fires as well
Everything here is amazing, honestly the best place I've eaten at in the past year
Amazing!! I"ve been many times to the east coast and the donairs at Big bear are as delish (and maybe even better!! ????) . A must try!
Terrible service, nasty food. Not recommended. Not much of other options for a quick bite at this time of year, but still, much better food offered at McD's or Subway for only 1/2 the cost.
March 29 7pm By far the best meal we have had so far on our journey southbound from Homer Alaska. Friendly & helpful staff. 10/10 (I wish I had the recipe for their poutine! Incredibly delicious! ) March 30 3:30pm. I do have to add... I just came back thru to get another round of food. The staff wasn't as receptive, the music was off, the tables were dirty, water was nearly empty... Definitely not anywhere near as great ambiance. Sure enough, the neglect of the restaurant was also reflected in the food. The meat was dried out & burnt, bread stale, downstairs weren't well constructed... The poutine had burnt fries, and missing some of the best ingredients we liked yesterday. Different staff working... Management would probably want to address the issue. Food was still edible, just bummed at paying top dollar for mediocre food & service.
Absolutely delicious. Have gone back a couple times now since moving here a month ago. Will recommend it to friends and family when they come to visit. Friendly staff, and delicious food!!
Great atmosphere and amazing food! My friend who works at camp and flies between here and edmonton schedules regular lunch dates with me here. It rivals the best donairs in western Canada.
Great service by Mr. Abhishek . Extraordinary interaction with customers and quality of food prepared by him is really commendable. Good relation with customers. No doubt, why big bear bear has addicting customers. Should have pay raise. 5 stars indeed
Delicious falafel with home-made hummus and friendly staff. No wifi - you are encouraged to "talk to each other" instead :) Nice place overall with both indoor and outdoor sitting. One of the very few places in Whitehorse which offers vegan options and is open outside normal business hours. Slightly on the expensive side but still reasonable.
Great staff. Good food! Kudos to their hard work and good manners.
As far as poutine goes outside of Québec, the shawarma poutine was damned credible. Will for sure go again and try the shawarma, to see if they can hold up to the best shawarma in the world: Ottawa shawarma.
Amazing domair, shawarma, fries and beer
Mixed feelings. For one this is a good offering in Whitehorse as one of the few places that hit this niche of food. The quality of the meal is good but pricier than the standard mark up of Yukon places. At this price point an earls or bps or higher end place is in the mix. Donair usually falls in the above fast food prices but below sit down places. This is in the higher price end. Also most Donair places are known for quick service and this is something that could be improved. The meat was good and fresh which could be an issue in a low traffic restaurant. The sauce and the seasonings were top notch, they know their Donair. I however found the hygiene could be better with hair nets and masks being used by staff. This is more of a personal issue but it's not outside the standard of places like this. Overall, the meal is maybe 20-30% too expensive. The offsales next door is good for picking something for later but it's pricy and it might intimidate you if you are skiddish or not be aware it's the same building. I would consider this as a go to if it was a bit faster, better priced or if it offered delivery as the location can make it a shore to go and get your meal. Right now it's more of a place to go for a craving than being in speed dial for customers. Customer service was fine, but could be friendlier and lean towards being more consumer centric. I figure the location has probably contributed to a more standoffish than usual service. As such it might be the best of its class in terms of the food offered but these items make it fall from a 4 star to 3 stars. All in this place is still worth checking out and for you to try at least once before making a call. For me it's sadly falls outside the area I would actively recommend but nowhere near I would say someone to reconsider. For the owners, get on Doordash and maybe reconsider the prices and become a true go to place for all in the community. Update from 3 to 4 stars after changes.
This is my new favorite donair place Unfortunately I don't live in Whitehorse. I'll be back.
I had the Shawarma Poutine. And it was a truly delicious meal. You want carbs. You got them in this amazing dish. I didn’t see that you could have added jalapeños and onions, I’m sure that would have made it even more delicious.
Great meat and sauce, however, these guys making the donair need a lesson on how it's done so it all doesn't fall apart.
Sooo amazing! I've only had a donair once before at a different place, wasn't really a fan. But Big Bear completely changed my tune! There were soo many different flavors, the sauces were incredible and the meat was soo tender.
My mom and I were traveling on the Al-Can making our way north. This was my favorite place of the whole trip! The food was absolutely amazing! Fast service, friendly staff, cozy seating, and delicious food. For a quick lunch stop after being on the road it was perfect. And the local folks seemed to love it too. We have now reached our destination and we still cannot stop talking about this place!
Chicken Shawarma plate is not a shawarma plate. Little bit off for me. It's a chicken biryani taste like not a Middle eastern that we used to have. Chicken meat is a bit dry too. :( I should have go for Donair. Will try other Menu next time.
