My friend and I come to this cafe as often as we can. The facility is clean and organized and the staff are super sweet, and over all amazing. The food, coffee, tea, sandwiches are delicious. We have been working through the menu :D The energy/ambiance is something that I take great attention too, there is a lovely warm and welcoming air about the cafe, making you want to stay longer :) - Overall I would recommend coming here if you are looking to try out a new cafe uptown waterloo.

Hidden gem inside the Uptown Waterloo Area! Got the Cuban sandwich and it was amazing. The ambience with the assortment of pastries made the visit superb and worthy of a return. Staff is super friendly and helpful and the place is also large enough for groups of 4 or more. I would say it can get busy on Sundays around brunch but overall has a decent crowd of students and professionals livings in KW. The pastries are the reason I can and they go have everything from muffins to cinnamon buns. We got a croissant and what looks like a donut (can’t remember the name but it was delicious and not as heavy as a donut :) In summary, great place for dates, conversations, or just Sunday coffee!

Not very noticeable from the outside, this cafe in the uptown core has an European style interior and serves great food and drinks. I've had coffee, tea, desserts, and light lunch there and was never disappointed. It's a family business, so the hours can be affected by events without much notice.

I've enjoyed the food and atmosphere here in the past, but had to stop recommending this place to friends. I came here with a friend who has a registered service dog, and was asked not to come back after our visit with a gentleman telling us it is because the building doesn't allow dogs, even service dogs. I followed up with phone calls twice, was told they will get back to me but they never follow up. My friend uses the services of another tenant in the building and avoided that building as a result until I called the other service provider who said there are no issues at all with service dogs. Cafe 22 needs to read up on the Ontario Service Dogs Act and stopped discriminating against people with disabilities. Other restaurants we have been to have been very welcoming and understanding. The service dog in question have only received compliments for how well behaved he is.

Meets all the requirements of a 'cafe office' - quiet ambiance, comfy chairs, great coffee, friendly service. Added bonuses: Fantastic food (the soups! The quiche!) and a rich variety of events that involve music and wine (who could complain!). Go, say hello to Asia ("Asha") from the other Asia and you'll be treated like family immediately. ;)

Atmosphere is nice and quiet. Was greeted by staff who were super nice and polite. Ordered a ham and cheese croissant expecting it to be plain ham and cheese, but it was dressed up nice with veggies and lettuce. Service was fast and Menu is fairly priced too so that's a bonus!

Let me start off with confirming what many other reviewers have pointed out - this place has modern charm, coupled with a kind and hardworking owner, Asia. This was my first visit to this cafe as I was only in town for a bit and was grabbing a to go coffee before my trip out. I love good coffee and, based on what I read in the reviews, was really looking forward to trying out what so many people rave about. Unfortunately I was let down on my expectations. I suspect that most of the people that come to this cafe, don't come for the coffee. I got an Americano (the larger of the two sizes, most comparable to a medium) which was quite pricey (3.20). This price would have been justified had the coffee experience been similar to what you expect in a high end coffee shop - fresh beans, ground up, tampered properly, watch the machine to make sure you have good crema... all the works. This is standard procedure for a cafe. Unfortunately, the coffee here is made from Illy canned pre-ground coffee, most comparable to a store bought Folgers. The Illy coffee, at no technical fault to Asia, is stale, slightly burnt, and tasteless. No crema from the machines (again because the coffee is stale). Usually I would just contact the owner if I had something to share based on my experience. However, I'd like to make this review public because the coffee experience here less than that of another 4.8/5 cafe elsewhere. If you want good food, this might be the place (fresh meats/cheeses/sandwiches here). If you want a latte with lots of cream, sugar and pumps of flavoring (we all have our preferences), you might appreciate the service here. However, if you want to truly get a good cup of coffee/americano, I'd suggest to look elsewhere. To Asia, you cafe looks wonderful inside and your charm is inviting. I hope you can upgrade the coffee experience away from Illy with perhaps some locally roasted beans and most importantly grinding them for orders. I would definitely come back in that case.

I wish I could give 0 stars to this cafe due to the fact that the owner yelled at me until I was in tears. Went to this cafe to meet two friends to study and support a small business instead of a franchise like Starbucks. Ordered my food and asked the staff the protocol for getting a table, they told me to wait until one was open. Once there was an open table where 3 people could sit I went to the table. Immediately the manager or owner came and yelled at me in front of the whole cafe saying I was not next and the couple in the hall who hadn’t ordered was supposed to be ahead of me. I calmly asked her if the couple could sit at the table for two that was available and I could sit at the table for 3 and even explained that I had spoken to other staff about getting a table and already ordered my food. She continued to yell at me making me cry in front of everyone. The lady told me I “knew nothing about covid restrictions and rules” meanwhile I’ve been working this whole pandemic in the emergency department of the hospital, wore an N95 into her shop, and have 3 vaccinations…Once my friends arrived they asked to speak with her where she was rude and unprofessional to them as well. I’m a student that lives uptown and enjoys spending my time studying at a small coffee shop often, but I will never go here again. I would rather take my money and generous tip somewhere where I am treated like a regular paying customer and not scum on the ground.

Unimpressed. We went late afternoon for a salad. There appeared to be no staff present, but in fact that was because she was hanging out at one of the tables hoping we would go away so that she wouldn’t have to help us. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken. The salad was fine although small for the price. The chicken on top was tough and over cooked. This place might be ok for a coffee and pastry but I do not recommend it for a meal.

Cafe 22 encompasses the heart of uptown waterloo, with its great ambiance, amazing food, and incredibly accommodating staff there truly isn't a better way to spend a cold fall day. I highly the capicola panini with salami, and the smoked salmon both were incredibly delicious, and in terms of price on par with local eateries.

This is a new favorite hideaway spot to grab a fantastic coffee drink ( the cafe au lait's are near perfection) and catch up with a friend or book. The pastries are worth the trip as well and decor is soothing and elegant; its a refreshing change of style from your local Starbucks. The only reason I give it only 4 stars is occasionally some staff like to crank up the music a bit too much. Smiling at customers and friendlier service from employees would also help.

This place is well located, but that's about it. The schedule changes depending on what day of the week you decide to go there so beware you can get kicked out. Also, the person in charged has no clue what the desserts offered are made of, nor is she helpful when a patron is trying to choose lactose free items. My immediate impression of this place was a warm victorian style. Service was professional, pleasant, and polite. The prices for food, drinks, and dessert are quite fair. I believe everything is made on site as everything I had was fresh and tasty. There is table service as they will bring what you ordered out to your table. This spot is perfect for a date night. The decor is classical, yet beautiful and the food complements it well. It's great to impress your date without breaking the bank.

Friendly service in a warm atmosphere. There was just the one employee working swiftly and diligently to serve all the guests. We had to wait a minute, but our drinks arrived in good time. Boring gossip was being spewed by the woman to our right, as she was dishing to her friend about pointless drivel that any sane person would have finished their coffee and walked away from. The man on a date grew impatient, with service not completely revolving around him, he got up to remind the lone staff that he and his date were waiting on their food still. The staff cheerfully acknowledged him and replied that she would bring it right out. They got their salads, ate, and left after the short male furrowed his brows glancing around the cafe, and asking what an olive oil vinaigrette is.
