The associate that spoke with me was friendly, however quite pushy on selling me things I did not require. It was evident that they work on commission as I went there to buy an inexpensive coffee table and instead we were shown beds/sofas/loveseats etc. Not a comfortable environment to shop. Yesterday was my very first time buying a mattress and getting approved for my credit! The day started off well but slowly got worse when we couldn't find any great mattress', and some of the sales people were not great. After we had lunch we went to one last store for our last attempt. I walked in to Surplus and immediately was greated by a lady named Amanda. Let me just say that after meeting her my shopping experience went through the roof. The staff were friendly, there was music playing which made me feel like I could actually talk, instead of being quiet like some of the other stores. Amanda showed us some mattresses and the very first one we lied on was perfect! She said it was in stock, and the warehouse was open until 8 so it was so convenient for pickup! With the mattress came the box spring and bed rail. She also sold me a baby leather chair, a coat rack, an accent chair, a mirror, an accent pillow, mattress cover, and a pillow cover. My boyfriend even put a sectional on Layway! But here's the thing, I never felt forced into buying this like other places. Her personality and demeanor towards me made me WANT to buy more! I spent $2200 TOTAL the same amount I would have spent at another place just for a king mattress and box springs. Instead I spent the same amount at Surplus and got all this extra stuff! SHE'S AMAZING!!! Go to Surplus, talk to a Amanda, make a big purchase and feel good about it!

I went there January 29th to order the Malden Dante midnight sofa. Spoke with Baha W (very nice person) regarding the sofa. The sofa is not in stock and I will have to wait for the shipments to come in to see what's in the trucks. I put a $100 down to purchase the sofa (hold it) haven't heard from anyone since. I have been trying to call no one is answering the phone and there is a absurd message on the voice mail. Completely unprofessional.

I had originally scored Surplus a 1 because of an issue that we had with a sofa we purchased. 3 years old and we had to recently toss it. Contacted them when we initially had issues and they did nothing. They were kind enough to contact me and offer an in store credit which we Did use on items that we desperately needed. It may not recoup the price we lost on the new sofa but it's something. Dan, their new manager, was absolutely fantastic! I'm in management and he handled our situation the best that he could. Because of that I give them a 4 star. (Not a 5 because I'm still a pissed about the sofa). Thanks to Dan and his team!

I found them great to deal with. Especially the Store Manager, Dan. It is impossible to get as much furniture for as little anywhere else. As it is mass produced furniture there can be a few little imperfections from time to time. There were a few with our furniture. When we let Dan know he didn't question the authenticity of our cliam and made it right immediately and to our satisfaction. Truthfully, for the price we paid the furniture actually looks fantastic. If it lasts only a few years we got our money's worth but i expect it will last for a good while. Financing is quick and easy. If you choose the 12 month differed payment make sure you pay it in full by deadline or the interest will be harsh. Ask lots of questions. Great experiene.

Customer service was great, but unfortunately when we were purchasing our bed set we were told they had everything but the bed frame itself which was no problem so we decided to get it. When the delivery drivers showed up (to no fault of their own) only delivered our mattress and a coffee table. When we asked about the bed set (dresser, mirror, chest, and 2 nightstands) they said they had to call their boss. When they called they were told the furniture was damaged, but no one called to let us know before they showed up. A heads up would of been nice and now we have no idea when we will be getting it. They told us it could take months which is disappointing considering we thought we would have most of it already.

Spent $7000 cash. Got no deal, as I asked for a couple but would even give me a sofa pillow!! Was told I would receive my furniture next which was fine! Then while driving home I got a phone call stating delivery would cost $175. I was floored!! I called the next morning because I was thinking I should get my $7000 back, after finding that out! When I spoke with a salesman he stated he'd only charge me $75. This isnt great customer service!! I will twice about shopping there again!!

5 stars for sure, recently purchased a Sectional from there, dealt with Shaun he was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to, we were really impressed with the whole experience, reasonable prices and great customer service. We had it delievered 2 days later and was set up for us perfectly. 100% would recommend to anyone looking for any home furnishings, we also returned just days later searching for a mates bed, again dealt with Shaun and we got one picked out, paid for and help loading into our vehicle with. I visited the store on O'Leary Avenue. The prices are good and the staff is friendly but you need to make sure whatever you get delivered is going to fit in your house first. I live in Logy Bay so I was charged a non-refundable out of town delivery fee of $70. The couch didn't even make it past my front door and the men were here for about 5 mins. So I had to go back with a pickup truck and select another one so I could avoid having to waste another $70. Amanda helped me pick out a better set though and she was great. I would ask to see her if you ever plan on visiting. I would also rate this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the over priced delivery fee. I'm happy to pay extra for the convenience of it but I don't understand how it costs that much in fuel and labour for an attempted delivery.

Surplus furniture was by far the best company I dealt with during this moving process. Despite us being in a current health state of emergency they went above and beyond to make sure my furniture arrived promptly given the current circumstance. They did not try to profit off my situation, instead they gave me better deals than any other furniture store in the city saving me hundreds of dollars. Their workers are so friendly and really helped this process run smoothly. There is no other place I will go to for my Furniture purchases. They have the best quality of furniture and the prices can’t be beat! I bought a kitchen table and chairs a few years ago. It still looks as good as the day I bought it. I haven’t seen a set like it, it’s beautiful. I need a new couch. Of course I went back to Surplus Furniture and Mattress Warehouse. I can’t wait to get my Reclining Couch delivered. Then there’s the staff. Friendly, helpful is just the tip of the iceberg. The knowledge of the products they sell...is just WOW! They guide you through the process of finding the perfect items that you need. All the staff are lovely. But, Amanda is wonderful. Bought a mattress + box spring and sheets as a sale deal. After only a month the sheets are tearing/coming apart, and theres a slight creak in the box spring. It was a great deal, and family has bought from there before, so I know it's not necessarily the store's fault but it is annoying, especially the sheets falling apart since they're pretty comfy to sleep on. However, the service was amazing and the staff is friendly, so I would consider shooig there again or recommending it to others.

Bought a Ashley sofa set, not 8 months later, the arm has come loose on the love seat, took all the steps to properly file my claim, only to be told that they need a clear pic of the break, which is inside the arm and not accessible due to the structure being in the way, I informed the manager that this is not possible due to the location, and if i took it apart and tampered with the structure it would certainly be grounds to void the warranty so how would they like me to proceed,that was roughly a month ago and i have been ignored ever since, emailed twice and phoned numerous times, no reply. I feel this is very poor business on their part, i was told there was a hassle free warranty, and it is anything but!! this is my second set from them and it will surely be the last!!!!!

Do not pay for the 5 year total care plan. Its a complete rip off !!!! I've been emailing to have a year old sectional spring replaced, to finally be told the time limit has expired!!!! I have done everything I was asked to have it fixed. I say the third party is a fraud.A 5 year warranty that's not warranted within 15 months??? Cons!! I'll never buy from this place again. Once they sell you the item, there's no help afterward. Money grabbers????

I recently paid a visit to Surplus Furniture on O'Leary Avenue and had yet another amazing experience. My first experience was about 1 year ago, I needed a full apartment furnished quickly and on budget. Amanda was a blessing sent from heaven. She was so personable, kind, understanding, and informative. Although I've never had a bad experience with other staff at the store, I still gravitate toward Amanda because of that initial impression I received. I will not purchase furniture elsewhere. I don't feel like I'm talking to a salesperson at Surplus- I feel like I'm talking to one of the girls who actually care and listen to me. In addition to the impecable service I have recieved, the quality of their furniture is great and the prices are some of the best in the city. I've made many visits, and not one hasn't been a good experience, I've worked in customer service for many years- I'm not sure what some people are expecting from a salesperson if they don't think these guys deliver good service.

My wife and I were looking for a bed for our toddler. A friend had told us that they had purchased a bed at Surplus and were very happy with their purchase. Also saw some good reviews online. We showed up and as soon as we got there, a saleswoman greeted us and spoke with us for a bit, and then she handed us off to Shaun Burton. He was upfront with prices and gave us his opinion on what he felt was the best option for our situation. We got same day delivery, which was very convient. We are very happy with our purchase and our son loves his new bed. We will definitely recommend Surplus to anyone looking to make a furniture purchase.

Well for anyone looking to purchase new furniture DO NOT go to Surplus Freight on O’Leary Ave. Dad bought 2 brand new loveseats a month ago and it turns out he is allergic to the material. I called and was told that all sales are final and cannot be exchanged. He wasn’t looking for his money back, he was looking to upgrade. In my opinion, they took advantage of a senior citizen and never did they mention that all sales were final. Very poor customer service and the lady I spoke with when I did call all but hung up on me. Please feel free to share this so they don’t get the chance to take advantage of anyone else.

I don’t suggest anyone shop here , WORST SERVICE POSSIBLE. I’ve had the worst experience of my life with this place , - my first experience was last year, I paid on a dining set until I had it paid off as a gift for my mother for Mother’s Day , all I asked of them was it be delivered on time for that weekend so I arranged everything so that it would be. You would think that this would be easy enough, it gets to the location and there are legs missing for the table and the table was damaged. I was told (we can order you the legs but it will take 3-4 weeks or give you your money back) given the fact that it was bought as a gift I didn’t want to wait 3-4 weeks so obviously I got my money back as the table was damaged anyway. After paying on a table for a 2 month and finally being able to get it that is un acceptable. - my second experience was this past Friday, I have been in the market for a new bed for a while , I went to all furniture stores in St. John’s to get pricing and then decided (maybe I should give them the benefit of the doubt and try again) so I went in and had a look and they offered me a full bed at a decent price, I expressed my concern because of what happened before but was assured “ it wouldn’t happen again.” The bed was delivered the same day and fairly quickly as I had to leave to go out of town that day. They got me to sign for it before even taking it off the truck, brought it in for me and left. I assumed it was all there (as you would ) I get home today and go to put it together, take the head board out of the box, THAT’S DAMAGED and NO FOOT BOARD , FRAME OR RAILS. I am angry, upset and completely disgusted with the service from surplus despite being re assured “everything would be fine” . Fool me once shame on you , fool me twice shame on me I guess. I also assume I will have a fight on my hands Monday morning when I call again to try and have this resolved as I left a message but probably won’t have my call returned. Someone needs to speak out about this and it may have to be me.

The lady who began to help us (Donna) was initially friendly, however when we decided that we wanted to think about it she became instantly hostile and passed us onto another employee (which we didn’t ask for) he then insulted my partner and I numerous times - which as you know, is not the best way to get return customers. P.S. to the employee who tried insulting me by telling me he has friends who took what I’m taking in unversity who are now insurance brokers, I’d be interested to know what you took in university, considering you now work in a discount furniture store?

They sold the couch and loveseat I paid for while waiting for delivery. Then it would take 2-3 weeks to get it in stock again. Poor customer service, I will never shop there again.

Very very disappointed with the quality of the mattresses sold at this store.we have only had it for four years,springs are poking thru the sides. No customer provided when this issue reported to the store basically told you can email the manager but there is nothing we can do.
