Cependant, selon la loi, il n’est pas obligatoire d’identifier son chien de service. Je n’avais pas prévu aller nulle part d’autre avec elle après mon rendez-vous. J’ai cependant changé d’avis en lui faisant dégourdir les pattes et en croisant ce café dont la terrasse extérieure était vide. Je me suis dis, allons donc pour un bon café! Sachant que mon chien n’était pas identifié plus qu’il ne le fallait, j’ai sciemment décidé de m’installer sur la terrasse extérieure pour justement causer le moins de désagréments possible à la clientèle à l’intérieure. Alors que je terminais de nous installer sur la terrasse, la propriétaire est venue me voir en me disant que les chiens étaient interdits même sur la terrasse et en me pointant la pancarte indiquant la chose. Je lui ai alors fait part que mon chien en était un de service. Elle a continuer d’insister en me disant que ça ne paraissait pas vu qu’il n’était pas identifié. Je lui ai alors signifié que la loi canadienne n’exige pas que le chien soit identifié obligatoirement et en tout temps, mais je lui ai quand même montré qu’elle avait sa médaille l’identifiant comme chien de service dans le cou et lui ai montrée. Elle a continué d’insister que si les gens me voyaient avec un chien, ils me comprendraient pas, que vu qu’il était pas identifié, les gens ne le sauraient pas et assumeraient que j’étais juste là avec un simple chien. Elle a ensuite ajouté : « Ce n’est pas comme si vous étiez aveugle! Là je vous aurait laissé, même à l’intérieur on accepte les chiens comme ça normalement » J’ai donc compris à ce moment l’ignorance de cette dame concernant les chiens de services et les personnes handicapées, ainsi que sa confusion entre les chiens-guides pour les non voyants et les chiens de services autres, et donc, que pour elle, j’imagine que vu que mon handicap cardiaque n’est pas visible physiquement et ne paraît pas, mon chien de service n’était donc pas aussi « important » et « nécessaire » que celui d’un non-voyant. À ce moment, j’ai quand même terminé de lui montrer la carte d’identification de mon chien de service que j’avais dans mon porte-monnaie, puisqu’elle semblait douter de la véracité de ce que j’avançais concernant mon chien. Cependant, rendu à ce point, ça faisait un bon 5 minutes que l’on s’obstinait, qu’elle me disait que les chiens sautaient sur les gens, que je la rassurait que la mienne était bien entraînée et qu’elle ne ferait pas une telle chose, etc.. bref après lui avoir montrer la carte d’identification officielle, elle s’est finalement rendu à l’évidence que mon chien en était effectivement un de service en me disant que je pouvais rester mais peut-être si je pouvais m’installer plus loin de la porte d’entrée (sur la terrasse encore et toujours vide) mais après tout cette acharnement, je ne me sentais vraiment pas la bienvenue comme cliente et j’étais deja épuisée de m’obstiner et d’essayer de m’expliquer. Elle ne voulait pas de ma clientèle alors elle ne l’aurait pas, tant pis pour le café. J’ai décidée de quitter alors que là elle insistait pour dire que finalement il y en avait pas de problème vu que je lui avait montrer la carte, je pouvais rester, mais franchement, pourquoi j’irais encourager un commerce qui a tellement de préjugés face aux chiens de services et aux personnes ayant un handicap « non-visible ». J’étais quelque peu frustrée de la situation, jamais un tel mauvais accueil m’avait été fait avant dans un commerce, je comprends qu’au Québec, certaines personnes ne sont aucunement au fait des lois concernant les chiens de services, mais lorsqu’on tient un commerce on se doit de mieux s’informer. J’ai donc décidé de quitter les lieux.
