Okay. So I know this restaurant has been around for a long time with a great reputation for fine food which is why I was very disappointed in my meal there the other day. I didn't spend a lot of money on their "specials" (and I'm glad I didn't) I just had their specialty tortierre and my granddaughter had the poutine. Mine was very blah and the gravy tasted a bit rancid although maybe that's how it was supposed to taste. The server was very nice, but his boss was dressed and acted poorly. As we were finishing he was talking to his other employee pointing to our table that could be used after we left (for covid restrictions I suppose) Not too classy. Since I had my young granddaughter with me i chose not to make a fuss about the above; so would I go back...no thanks. Maybe I just got them on a bad day, but this restaurant is looking a little rundown.

Was the first time here and all I can say is amazing. Had the bison and elk combo with risotto. Absolutely delicious...a must try for any meat lover. A must is their famous maple sugar pie...the crust is sooooo flaking. We were blessed to have Curtis as our gracious host. If you have never tried Resto Gare...you better try them. Will definitely be a regular now. A true gem.

First time at Resto Gare and Train Bar Bistro. Not much space for parking. However it was really nice inside. Decor just needs a little touching up. The food is delicious. I had the French Onion Soup for starters, it's delicious. Then I had the special for the main course, rib eye steak with mashed potatoes, vegetables, and two onion rings with gravy sauce on the bottom. That was delicious too.

I'm a picky eater and so read reviews about that place before going. Several comments were complaints about the food being overpriced. I still wanted to get my own experience though and form my own opinion. As a seafood lover, I went for their Tresor de la mer. My expectations were high and reasonable for a $110 dish! And this was such a letdown. The scallops, shrimps and vegetables barely had any flavor. Don't be fooled by the picture of the dish! It looks good but it has nothing special. Charging $110 for this should be illegal. Needless to say that I will never return to that place, or recommend it to anyone. Bummer.

We had our wedding reception in the train car that we had booked privately for our event of just over 20 people. There were SO many amazing menu options to pick from for our guests, and all the guests raved about how good the food was! Portions were great, the service from Robert & Alexie was so friendly and organized (and bilingual!). The quality & presentation of the food was amazing! Linda, who helped organize the event and was my contact person leading up to the evening, was fabulous! She was responsive and organized! The evening was a success!! They were able to accommodate with dairy-free options for food allergies! We brought our decor to personalize the train car. It was a perfect space for that size of a group, even leaving a bit of room for a few younger children to roam. I would highly recommend Resto Gare for a large group of people and will certainly be going back just the two of us!!

I searched for 45 mins online for French onion soup. So someone recommended I order off skip or door dash from this restaurant. I unfortunately couldn’t find them on either. I called the restaurant asked how I would go about ordering from them and I was informed that they turned off third party ordering systems to only focus on in store customers. I was disappointed then he asked what I wanted and I advised French onion soup and he replied “oh that’s it?” And I informed the gentleman on the phone that there would be more ordered and for two people at least. The employee proceeded to tell me that he could In fact turn on the third party ordering but would rather not so the chef concentrate on in house customers only. Lucky for me I found soup else where and my order was well over $100.00. This place made me feel very unvalued as a customer. I wish I could give a zero star rating.

Fantastic. Food was perfectly prepared and presented, from starters to dessert. Excellent service all around. Beautiful, historic premises.

Food was great. Opted to try the Ribeye special. Only complaint (really not that bad) was the parking

Absolutely love this place! Hidden pearl of our city! Music, atmosphere, great service and delicious food! Fondue from brie with berrie jam on top and crunchy baguette - mmmm, taste like heaven! Risotto with seafood - I definitely return to eat this dish again. And again.

We were a party of 12 and went last night. While the food was good, the service was extremely slow. The server wasn't all that friendly either. When it came time for all of us to pay our separate bills, just my daughter was approached by the server who there is a 15% gratuity added but since its christmas you could add some more tips. She was the only one he said this to and we shocked at the audacity of him when the service was nothing special. Most of the people were only and I feel he took advantage of her because she was young. She felt intimidated and shocked so she gave him extra.

Visited on a Friday with a few friends. The restaurant was severely under-staffed and the servers looked overworked. It took close to half an hour to get our drinks, never mind having been checked on if we need some refills, and over an hour to get our food. We also felt slightly rushed as we got our food about 7 mins before they were closed and was approached by 2 different servers and told "It's okay if you guys stay 5-10 mins past close." At least 3 other tables that came after us were served before us even if we ordered starters and small dishes. The cheese plate was slightly disappointing, especially for a french restaurant. They tasted like your ordinary grocery store cheeses that you certainly could have bought and prepared yourself. I did very much enjoy the Saint-Jacque I ordered, though. I am hoping to try again in the future when the provincial restrictions and current climate of the pandemic allows the restaurant to operate at its normal capacity.

Absolutely wonderful!!! We had our wedding there in August and everything was more than amazing. Linda was very kind, accommodating, and helpful. Especially when Covid-19 restrictions kept changing and we'd have to adjust certain details for our wedding. The staff were and are always lovely. The food was delicious! Our guests couldn't stop talking about the Prime Rib and how good it was. A great restaurant that our families will continue to come back to for birthdays and special occasions.

Had a great anniversary celebration supper. All the food was excellent and service, too. Haven't ever been there before and we'd like to go again. Had the seafood for 2.

my first time at this restaurant and the service of the food was not to the expectation of our order. We had mix ups with our steaks being cooked and the wait time for our group was over an hour to recieve our food after we had ordered. We unfortunately wish the staff were more friendly.

Very nice location, we were told by many friends this place was top notch. We got there and right away could tell they were understaffed, our waiter was nice to give us the features of the day and we both selected the rib steak feature. Our waiter seemed very disappointed in us for wanting our sauce served on the side and said no when we requested some gravy with our potatoes as he said the dish didn’t need it which I found quite rude. Our starter escargot was amazing especially in the sauce, when we got our mains we were disappointed the steaks were both over done, and quick frankly just dry. Halfway through eating the server came back to check on us and finally offered to bring the sauce we had originally asked for. The wine and atmosphere was great.

First time at Resto Gare with my partner for my birthday and it was fantastic! Eric was an amazing server, he was professional, prompt, and gave my partner and I amazing hospitality. I appreciate the service he gave to us. The train is beautiful, its definitely a must see and as well as the restaurant. When we went there was a large party in the back of the train and because of the sizing of the train the volume could get quite loud, so it was a bit hard of hearing and had to increase volume to have conversation. But it really did not damper our experience! We were still able to have an amazing dinner ! Thank you to all staff at Resto Gare!

We had a wonderful experience at Resto Gare. Our waiter was amazing and the food incredible. We loved the atmosphere of being in the train. Highly recommend for a special occasion.

Have not been here in years but went recently. Service was very friendly. The food was good but did not reach fantastic. The mushrooms with the Chateaubriand tasted a bit odd. Its still a nice place to dine. Dinner comes with bread service. The cheese appetizer with pistachios was not as good as the one I had served up recently by the cafe ce soir. I did like the looks of their dessert cart. The berry cheese cake I had was light and sweet. Nice end to the meal. However I was told it was a feature for that night.

Where do I begin? Found this unique restaurant on skip the dishes, first time ever heard it it. Loved the menu, ordered a few dishes such as the cheese platter, cordon bleu & Brie fondue. The delivery arrived and it was everything & more! Great presentation, bursting flavour, huge chunks of cheese, ( which is hard to come by with charcuterie boards! ) It was exactly what I needed... Loving every bite ! Im extremely happy finding this hidden gem of a restaurant! Thank you! Ps. The note attached is adorable, great extra touch! ????

Went here for an anniversary dinner and thankfully it was fairly quiet. The service, from Brian, was good but he was quite monotone and expressionless. Food was served quickly and tasted delicious. Near the end of our meal two new groups came in and got seated right beside each other, and very close to us, in the otherwise empty train car. Also, a different server came over and stood right beside us with his mask down to talk to one of the tables. Good thing we were leaving, as I would not have been comfortable spending the whole meal that close to others.

A little pricey but a great meal. Great feel no matter where you are seated but the nostalgic feel to the train is my favorite. Great time. I will go back for sure.

Resto gare is a very chic place with dining room and train car for lunch or small intimate weddings or parties. A beautiful patio also where they have Thursday jazz in summer. The food is french based and along with the delicious dessert cart you can have a lovely continental dinner. Good wine and cocktails tho I do find them bit pricey. Lots of parking free and easy access to transit. Curtis a mainstay server is very personable and helpful. The owners very friendly and helpful as well. For a celebration I highly recommend Resto Gare.

This place was a great experience for a small group. I feel as though 2-4 people would be the ideal amount, especially if you’re looking for seating in the train. It would get a little cramped for space otherwise. Great food, well worth the price. The only criticism would be the servers and staff, they could have been more hospitable, but we came in on a very busy evening so its justified. I wish they had live jazz on more nights throughout the week, I feel as though that’d be a great addition. Got the beef bourguignon, and escargot, would highly recommend. Would gladly come back and try out different items on their menu.

I was really stoked to try this place, the menu looked so good & filled with things I wanted to eat. The taste of the food itself however did not meet or exceed my expectations. Our server was super friendly & kind. I just found the downside to here was the food wasn't as flavorful as other places within the city. Great ambience & vibe tho!

I am currently waiting with my family of 9 for over an hour to receive our food. We have reserved at 6pm and ordered by 630pm and still are waiting for our food for the current time of 8. The service is not of standard for expectation we thought would be a good restaurant. Unfortunately, the service is why I am servicing this restaurant as a two star. Hopefully the food is better than the service. Decor is pleasant. Not friendly staff.

We spent Mother’s Day at this lovely and gorgeous restaurant. Cosy french atmosphere and we were lucky to have a table in the famous train cabin. The waiter was very pleasant and helped us choose the correct starters and meals (included in photos). Their cakes were also very delicious , especially that maple one. We enjoyed, we will come back (maybe for a jazz evening ) and definitely recommend that place.

What an incredible dining experience. Nestled away in the French quarter of Winnipeg, St-Boniface. This is a gem that is 7 minutes out of the city center. Built out of an old train's dining cart, this French restaurant was not only adorably quaint but the food was delicious. Like role your eyes in pure joy delicious. Starting with the escargot, my Mom had Tortiere for her main course, myself the gourmand macaroni and cheese with smoked ham, and ending with a cappuccino and creme brulee that had to be one of the best I've had. Oh, and the Prosecco was to die for too. Highly recommend! So worth it!

What a wonderful experience, the food is delish. The staff is amazing, beautiful, caring people. The atmosphere is wonderful. Thank you all for making my 65th birthday a very remarkable experience.

What a great place to go for dinner. Amazing food quality. Great cozy environment. Food is really worth the money. The assorted cheese platter is delicious to start with. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended!!

To be frank, this was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The service was amazing, the food was incredible, and the overall aesthetic of the place was beautiful. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The food came out quickly, and it was melt-in-your-mouth good. Don't hesitate to make this your next stop. It's worth your time.

The service was excellent with the food being superb. Celebrated both our birthdays and chose a lovely restaurant that dud not disappoint. Will definitely book outside next time....garden area is beautiful. Highly recommend.

kamilah nazeer

Amazing food. Linda made it happen for us to get on to the patio for Thur jazz music night. It was our 28th wedding anniversary. Such a beautiful place to eat. Food is outstanding. Thank you to Matt our server.

Good food. Reasonably priced - sometimes. Live entertainment

Julia Bimbat

Excellent service. We had minestrone and mussles for apps. They were both delicious. I don't even like minestrone but this was so good. After so much mussles we shared stuffed chicken breast meal which was tender and tasty as were the sides. Bill at the end was way lower than we thought it ought to be. Will go there again for sure! Sorry no pics we gobbled it up. Mayne next time

Staff was second only to the meal. Could be one of the best filet mignon I've ever had.
