A Winnipeg treasure, you will have to wait a bit longer for the fried chicken, but it's worth the wait. Fresh non greasy fried chicken, excellent breading that stays crispy and with a light savory flavor. Staff is great with the customers as well.

Is the place starting to get weary or is it just me? The food has dropped a few notches since Peter's passing it seems. Some of the staff are just going through the motions and you can't find the enthusiasm that once was there. Maybe management should re-group and rebuild. Note to management: If the floors are slippery in both washrooms because they're wet because of cleaning, then put up a sign. If the sign hangs on the door for weeks on end, then fix the problem. Maybe you have a plumbing leak!

Cheese Burger is nothing to write home about and neither were the fries. Milk shake was delicious but a little thick for me. Reasonably priced (about $30 for two burgers, one milk shake, one soda, and one order of fries). Server was very friendly but a bit close given the current covid climate.

Disappointed! I recommend to a friend to order some chicken from this place and ordered some for myself for dinner. Only until I got mine I realized the chicken don’t look the same as before. I don’t know what happened but I read another person’s review and 100% agreed with him. The chicken is not the same as I always enjoyed before. The owner changed that’s why. Had I known that I wouldn’t recommend that to my friend. I told him it’s the best fried chicken in town. But now it’s really just like KFC chicken. Red Top has the best fried chicken in the city, bar none! I have never been impressed with fries at any of the other chicken places in the city either. Here you get fresh cut Greek burger joint fries with your fried chicken, you can't go wrong. Top burger, triple decker sandwich, and fish and chips are also excellent.

We are big fans of Red Top but today may well have changed things. Their chicken has been the best ever, today it was dry and overly salty. Both of our dinners had only backs so we had just white meat. The fries although copious amounts were very soggy. If we were eating in we would honestly have sent both dinners back. Aside from the meal we had asked for cutlery which they did not include. No napkins, no salt, no vinigor or ketchup. Very disappointed.

So, this one is tough to post. It could be I was just there at the wrong time, but there were also issues that would have existed regardless of how busy/slow it was. For starters, this is a place that's highly recommended, it was on an episode of "You Gotta Eat Here", and seems like it has all the foundations of being a great diner, the problem is in some of the execution. The good: had a chocolate shake that was everything you'd expect from a great hand dipped shake, no complaints there. Also, the staff seemed friendly, and helpful, definitely a great group to interact with. The meh: I think Greek salad has a pretty universal definition by now, what Greek salad is not: mostly bag lettuce mix with shredded carrots, then topped with a few token tomatoes, cucumber, olives, and feta. All edible, but not Greek salad. Just call it a house salad and everyone's happy. The ugly: The fries seemed like they could have had potential, but were undercooked, soggy, and cold when they were handed to me in the bag. The deluxe dog was so overcooked that all that was left was a shriveled, tough casing around a thin straw of edible interior (also, it was supposed to come with lettuce and tomato that was absent), and the chicken was so over-brined that the overwhelming taste was just salt (I initially thought it was the batter/skin, but even after removing that, the meat itself was just too salty to eat). Finally, my takeout order was provided without utensils or condiments (I mean come on, no ketchup for a box of fries?), which meant that even if everything was spot on, it still would have been an incomplete meal. So after all that, what I was left with for my $27 with tip, was a pretty decent shake, whatever I could eat with my fingers of a 'Greek' salad, a hotdog that time forgot, and about 60 minutes of serious indigestion. Hence, a review that I don't want to leave, but 2 stars that were unfortunately earned today.

Ordered a bucket of chicken ???? ???? to take ???? 4 ???? and ordered onion rings and a chocolate milkshake. The onion rings were the basic McCain's and they were cooked to PERFECTION!! And the shake was amazing. After suffering with what some chicken ???? chains are selling (K#C) which is not they same chicken that they sold 20-30 years. Yes I'm 53 but don't feel that old. LOL On with the chicken review. It was amazing. It was the best fried chicken ???? that I've had in years .. So don't be shy check out this gem of a restaurant

Excellent hamburgers (loaded comes with chili sauce, awesome!). Fries are home-made and delicious. Chicken and lamb/beef Gyro platters are overflowing and delicious. Eat in and Take Out. Great place to bring kids too. Often bustlingly busy, but charming in its simplicity. If you are going with more than 4 people, you will need two tables or booths - so this can be annoying if you mean to socialize, but the food is very good!

Was in there last night with my wife, son and daughter in law. They were fairly busy and only had on one server and one girl doing takeout. The server was Brittney, her service was excellent and she was very polite and friendly. She let us know ahead of time that the kitchen was backed up. She had quite a few tables going at once but was nevertheless very professional and engaging with not only our table but the surrounding tables as well. Hope to get her section on our next visit.

So I have been here a few times and up until this time it has always been great. The food was still amazing and I was so pleased. The service however was lacking horribly. Refills were only given to one of our party, things were forgotten and we had to ask and it seemed that even though there were only a few tables in her section talking to her coworkers was more important than her tables. We drove from st janes for this meal and were left disappointed with the service not the food.

My partner's burger was drowning in chili sauce so much so that we had to throw the burger in the trash I felt so bad I shared half my burger with my partner. Please caution when you see chili on a burger get it on the side or with no sauce.

Service was very friendly. So far only had the mayor burger. Tastes good but wasn't a huge flavor boost with the gyro meat as we tasted mainly bacon. Fries were decent and the coleslaw is the more vinegary kind. You can turn most things into a platter by adding $5 Prices aren't cheap but the servings are generous. It's an interesting diner that's been featured on tv. They have pressure cooked fried chicken which I'd like to try out.

Red Top. An institution. A Winnipeg tradition. This diner (featured on "You Gotta Eat Here" is a special place with owned and operated by some lovely people. The moment you walk in you feel like family. Best dogs, awesome burgers, and some great Greek fare. Most importantly, they have the best fried chicken in the city...maybe Canada. They don't market it as they should, but it's really amazing.

Ordered dinner from Door Dash, they forgot to send out our Root Beer float and the food we did get was ver underwhelming. The gyro was small and luke warm, the poutine was cold and the cheese was hardened. The burger and onion rings my wife ordered were also soggy, tepid and bland. Definitely not ordering again, used to love this place.

great food and children friendly. the kids love the pancakes, and the staff are great with the kids. The kids also love the lollipop or Petey pops (as they call them named after the owner) after their meals. Chicken dinners are great as is the Greek salad and grillled chicken breast. Chicken gyros are also very good and the portions are huge for a low price. Those that are really hungry can try to tackle the monster burger which is 6 patties on a sub bun.

Well they use to have the best chicken in the city.The new owners seemed to screw that up. Ordered a 8 pcs. dinner , fries ,cold slaw gravy. Has to be the worst gravy i had ever tasted , tasted like burnt flour ( threw it out). Chicken pcs where very small ,and the coating was tasteless. Not the same as before as the picture indicates.That's the chicken i wanted.I wish i took a picture .Very disappointed! Use to 5 stars now 1 star.

However the food is just decent, don't get me wrong its a good meal, but with great service one could expect a great meal to go along with it. The Red Top is one of the classic greasy spoon burger joints in Winnipeg. They are known for their burgers, chili, and pressure cooked fried chicken. I got their Lot-O-Burger with fries and coleslaw. My partner got a chicken finger plate with fries and salad. It's a lot of food for around $12 plus tax for each plate. This is the first time I've eaten there since the place was sold to new owners. They still make tasty food though the fries weren't as good as I remember. They were a tad spongy. But, otherwise I'd recommend this place to anyone who has never been. A great St.Bonifice landmark.

I decided to walk down to Red Top after a terrible experience at a taco place down the street, figuring I'd actually get the bang for my buck. I walk in and was instantly greeted by two lovely ladies. I told them I was there for take out, ordered some chicken, salad and poutine and a glass of wine while I waited. It felt like I was talking to old friends right away. Everything from basketball, to the MTS center, our favourite rock concerts, it was AWESOME! I had never been here before but I'll be damned if I don't make this a habitual stop for myself. The food was amazing, I made a couple new friends and had a good experience considering I just dropped in. Even the cooks were chatting it up and we all had a great time. I would give this place an easy 10/10! If you're ever on St. Mary's, I would 100% recommend this joint. The prices are incredibly reasonable, you get what you pay for and the employees are top notch! I don't often write reviews but it needs to be known how great this restaurant is! SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES!! ????

One of the only real classic American style diners left in Winnipeg. There is some Greek influence on the menu. This place is like what Sal's was at one time; impecable service with lovely servers who know all the regulars. Prices don't compare to fast food or cheap burger joints but you won't get the quality or friendly staff that you find here, at any of those places.

My friend brought myself and my cousin here last weekend and he kept on telling us about this Monster Burger they have. There are a lot of burger shops in Wpg, I didn't believe it until we saw it in the menu. 9 meat patties, not to mention chili sauces in between each pattie. My cousin and I were crazy to order 2 of these! I was very hungry but could not finish the mountain of meat. Cheers to those who can finish that Burger Mammoth, it is huge! The buns were kind of dry but once you grasp both sides of that mess then the juices and toppings moisten the buns and it's up to you and your mouth to devour that meaty giant. When we left, I ordered a chocolate milkshake to go, it was pretty good, had a thicker texture to it. We were the only asians in that place at the time haha all good though. The staff are very friendly.

I tried the Greek omelette and my friend had the chicken salad. My friend wasn't a huge fan of his overly creamy salad but I enjoyed my super cheesy omelette. I think they gave me too many fries though. The fries were not salty enough and felt more vinegar-y. The coleslaw was not creamy and was also more vinegar-y. For 11 something dollars this place definitely tops your plate up with food to the max, even the omelette was as big as two hands. The waitress was very nice and friendly.

The waitress was super friendly and surprisingly quick. Portions were very generous. Almost too generous. Had a gyro plate. Came with excellent crispy french fries and very fresh and flavourful greek salad. The gyro was very refreshing with lots of tzadziki. The fountain drinks come without ice but are very cold. The coffee was good. The decor is just right for what it is: a 60's style diner.

Really good food for a decent price! It's a modest mom and pop shop that serves burgers and greek food. Everything is fresh and tastes amazing. I highly recommend the greek salad. As for price, you can get a full meal, (fries, drink, burger) for roughly $15. Portion sizes are generous, and will fill the hungriest of bellies.

Terrible breakfast experience. The ham and cheese omelette could be made better by a high school student learning how to cook! It was filled with so much process cheese that I couldn't taste the eggs. It was served with iceberg lettuce salad and french fries. How odd! My husband and I had $30 worth of crap food. We will never go back there again.

Went there today and everthing was wrong. They served my daughter's eggs with fries and coleslaw. Who does that? Our burgers came with the wrong sides. The burgers were falling apart (not in a good way) and were soggy. Gravy was cold. Brought it up with them and they tried to throw our waitress under the bus. She was the best part of our dinner.

The food was fine, we both had cheese burgers we shared fries and I had the coleslaw! I loved the coleslaw, its the vinegar kind. Anyways everything was fine the service was good very nice young lady very attentive but as we goto pay the Boss lady yells at our server saying you have to cash out because the till calculted our meal at $85 which was wrong. Honest mistake no big deal, just thought it was very poor to reprimand an employee right infront of customers in such a rude way. That honestly ruined our whole experience at the Red Top, its too bad because I really wanted to enjoy this place. My wife was very upset , that she had to see that as the waitress was very nice. Here’s a tip to the boss lady, be nicer to your employees! They are the backbone of your business.

There is a reason, this little red and white pit stop is always busy. This restaurant has been around for almost 60 years. The breakfasts are filling and delicious, the burgers are huge, and I am partial to the lamb and beef gyro’s. This is a must go, it’s just an average diner with amazing food!!!

Love Red Top!! Brought our 12 year old this evening for supper. He ordered spicy chicken fingers that is not on the menu but the cook went out of his way to make it for him anyways...apparently was delish!! I had the cheese burger with raw onions and crispy bacon. Best burger I've had in a very long time ????. Have to add that the little lady who served us was the best waitress i have ever had!!

It's tough coming here now. The restaurant is the same, but the atmosphere has changed. The fries are great. My wife and I both found the chili on the burgers to be lacking / the meat was dry, and the buns were too big (probably because the meat was dry, so the bun seemed a lot bigger than previously experienced). Where I used to say this was a 8.5-9/10, I'd now say 6.5.

After we were almost done, was asked then if everything was alright. Tried multiple times to get the attention to get refills. I Loved the retro diner atmosphere, and the staff were very attentive and friendly. I had the Double Loto burger with fries and chili. I strongly recommend this platter, but don't make plans for the next 2 hours afterward. I'm on my couch entering a food coma thanks to this delicious, giant plate of heaven in burger form. Walked into restaurant and sat down to receive no service. Four different groups of customers came in and were served, whereas we still didn’t get a coffee. When asked for service the waitress said (in a rude manner) that ‘They were busy ’...meanwhile the people coming in after us had already eaten and left the restaurant. Must be a race issue... I don't typically write or do reviews on experiences but, I feel this should be addressed considering my experience wasn't the best. Despite reading and hearing great things about this restaurant, I've wanted to go to this place for sometime and finally did so some days ago. People commented on the "great atmosphere" and such, but I feel like I experienced something much difference and that'd be judgement, disgust among other things. Decided to treat my parents to a dinner out in this establishment and I know it'll be the last time going there, upon our arrival we were welcomed with looks of disgust and down right dirty looks from the other people in the diner, the waitress was kind and I thank her for the service she's provided. I remember as we sat down at our table, I look over and see this old man looking down upon us with the corner of this eyes, as well as another older woman doing the same as we go to our table. Truly rubbish how people can be so judgmental and wicked, I know for one thing when I sat down I knew I wanted to leave. Who knew someone of color could have their day ruined by such prejudice, sorry for playing the race card, but after this experience I know that I won't recommend this place for my friends, family or anyone else. Thank you.

I am looking for the best chilli burger. I have not been to Red Top before and I heard good things about it. When the burger came it looked delicious with lots of chilli pouring over it. My first bite I was disappointed that is was Luke warm. My burger should have been hot or at least warm. Tried another couple of bites and was disappointed. Told the waitress to tell their chef to make sure they serve hot food. Will still be on the hunt for the best chilli burger. Will not return to the Red Top.
