I’m sorry to say that I really didn’t like this place. I had eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce had no flavour at all, not even salt, and salt didn’t fix it. The potatoes were deep fried and the meal was like $15. I’m actually not a picky eater but it was notably bad!

My husband and I used to love going to the Oakwood for breakfast/brunch. Their decor with the beautiful birch tree wallpaper and the windows brought such a nice vibe to the place. Their menu was always exceptional (my favourite was their french toast with fresh strawberries), but we have been a few of times in the last year and we have been disappointed every time. They changed their decor so it feels a bit more like a dive rather than a chic restaurant, and the menu has changed quite a bit as well. They still have decent pancakes/waffles/eggs benny, but it really isn't as good as it used to be. Little touches have changed, like no spoons on the table to stir coffee, and this past time we brought our toddler and asked for a side of fruit for him, as there is no kids menu. The server's response was "we don't actually have any fresh fruit" ... so yes, apparently none of their menu items include fruit, which I find really bizarre for a breakfast/brunch spot- you would think they would at least have oranges for garnish or some bananas. This basically meant that our son didn't get to eat lunch because he doesn't each much of anything else. The service was also quite slow the last couple of times we have gone, and we've had to go looking for our server for more water, for example. Even though this was our go-to spot before for dining out at breakfast, I don't think we'll be visiting again anytime soon.

I had a burger blue cheese, bacon and walnuts. Sweet potato fries with chipotle sauce. It was ok but 18.08 for a burger and fries is a little steep. Winnipeg is a burger city and many more reasonably priced options. Staff were very friendly and courteous. Lovely restaurant and i would go back as their banana bread French toast sounds great.

There's nothing 'haute' aboit the cuisine here. it's middle-of-the-road in the best sense. No surprises and no diappointments. For example, if you want an absolutely classic bacon and egg breakfast for a low price, come here. Tidy quiet decor, pleasant serving staff and no one hurrying you to clear out. I've gone dozens of times so take that as a review in itself.

All day breakfast and six types of Mac and Cheese. . . What else could you ask for?! Oakwood is a dependable go-to for brunch in my family. It's a small local restaurant that makes honest food with friendly faces serving it. The parking lot is small so park on the street and walk by some of Winnipeg's nicest homes on your way to your grub.

I’ll give this place 5 stars for the worst experience I ever had. I walked in expecting to be served and they asked me for my QR code to confirm my vaccination status! I asked them “do you know who I am!” They tried to tell me it doesn’t matter who I am and I need proper “documentation” to make sure I am vaccinated! I showed them some random papers I printed off the internet and they wouldn’t accept it! Clearly they don’t know who I am! My 6 followers is going to sink this place with bad reviews!

Ordered off skip the dishes so I don't know about their staff but the food was way overpriced. I got pancakes with whipped cream and berries. I got few berries that weren't fresh, and whipped cream that tastes funny. The pancakes were ok, but not worth what I paid.

This is a really fun neighborhood restaurant, I like that it's not another chain they actually make their own decisions and switch up menu items. Their protein selection has funny names and a lot of different flavor combinations that are great. The all day breakfast are fun and filling prices are very reasonable. My dining companions said that the salads were all very fresh, and enjoyed them. they can accommodate large groups but there are also lots of individual diners I've seen in there.

We ended up here for a double event. Poutine week and dine about. Dine about $18 Hot Manitoba Goldeye spread on Toasted Baguette I love goldeye so this was a win for me. Cherry Tomato and Basil Quiche with mixed green salad and honey balsamic vinaigrette The quiche was good, the salad was pretty standard. It came with a dessert that wasn't listed on the menu. Whatever it was, it was sweet, fluffy and tasty. Drunken Pig Poutine Very solid entry Our party orderd some other items. The beet Latkes were a little bitter. The breakfast that my other friend ordered he didn't really like. I had a little and I wasn't inclined to eat it either. I have a picture of it which I included in my review, but I don't remember which one it was. My other friend grabbed the bill and paid so I don't have a record of everything we ordered for this meal. Parking is available in a small lot. It can be problematic to park here sometimes during a busy time. Street parking is also available.

The Oakwood has become a Riverview institution. While ownership changes have happened and the inevitable menu changes followed, the core dish that has always stayed in the Oakwood Burger, which is one of the finest in our fair city. A sudden craving recently led to a dinner order and the burger is as fantastic as ever, and perfectly complemented with the home style fries. Looking forward to may more burgers and exploring the menu! :)

We have our office meetings here and this has become one of my favorite places to go! Everything that I have tried has been delicious! Last visit, I had the Curry Soup and a Tuna Melt. The tuna melt had something in it that I could not put a finger on but who ever decided to add it was a genius! I normally cannot handle spice but I downed my soup really quickly. They have always had service. I will go again, probably tonight!

Very friendly server and very tasty food. I had a Reuben with french fries and it was great. The rye bread was nicely grilled and wasn't soggy, the Corned Beef and sauerkraut were both excellent quality, they prepare the sandwich so that the Thousand Island dressing didn't make it soggy. Fries are very tasty too. It's a recently intimate atmosphere, the server was very attentive with our needs and especially with keeping my water glass full. I love this place!

We ordered three breakfasts through Skip the Dishes. All of them were awful. I ordered a traditional Eggs Benny. The eggs were sunny-side up instead of medium poached as requested. Even any kind of poached would have been acceptable but if you can't poach eggs at all, don't offer bennies. The English muffins they were on were so hard and overtoasted I couldn't even cut them with a knife. The Hollandaise sauce was tasteless and gross. My friend had the Mexican breakfast and it was equally unappealing, with Italian tomato sauce instead of salsa. We were really disappointed overall as we had heard good things about the Oakwood and this was our second attempt trying them out. But for the price ($15 for the Eggs Benny...) we should have stuck with Stella's. My quest for a decent Eggs Benny that can be ordered via Skip the Dishes continues...

The food was very good with reasonably sized portions. It had a good variety of menu items for a small restaurant, including some basic Ukrainian dishes like borscht soup, pyrogies and kulbasa. There was a large variety of desserts available to choose from. We were there for dinner, but the breakfast menu options looked very diverse and there were lots of sandwich and burger options for lunch as well. I plan to go back to try out some of those.

This is bar none, one if the best freaken places to eat in this city. The owner is a perfectionist in the best possible sense, the staff are devout to the owner, so service is outstanding. The food! FOOD!!! The food is big, great portions, well priced for anyone's budget when you consider the above. They fire vendors who don't pull their weight, Skip? Good riddance. This restaurant gets 10 out of 5 stars. Dont be surprised if you see celebrity (WPG) Chefs in here for lunch. It's that good.

Went for lunch with ex workmates. The place is not large, but very nice. The food was great, the service was good, parking was a bit crowded, and we ended up two streets away. Had to walk by Nerman's Collectables, so it wasn't a bad walk. Tried the Vladimir Poutine because I like dumb puns. It was really good, probably the most unhealthy thing I've eaten for a long time but boy it tasted good. A friend had the Beet Latke fish which was really very nice. Another friend had the fish and chips, which were also very nice. If I'm in the neighborhood again, I would definitely go again to try out other dishes. The menu sign indicated daily soups and I definitely want to try them out too.

I love beets and this lovely little cafe does a lot with one of my favourite veggies. Really truly home cooked food, no shortcuts here! Fresh borscht, beet salad, fabulous chili with lots of veggies and not to many beans! Delicious desserts and very friendly service. Even better because it is licensed and a parking lot out front. Firstly let me say that not only was the food amazing but my husband and I brought my son and his girlfriend there for his birthday dinner this year. His girlfriend has life threatening allergies and to say that the staff here were attentive to her needs is an understatement. Our wonderful waitress even went so far as to call their baker directly to find out the contents of the desserts that night and her meal was cooked in such a way that it would not come in contact with her allergens. This is very rare and you have no idea how appreciative she was ... you now have new and loyal customers. Thank you all so much!

Very cozy little setting in a strip mall on Osborne. Food was awesome, had the Oakwood Burger with home cut fries. Very fresh very tasty and would have it again in a heartbeat. My friend had the fish and chips and said it was tasty, but a little too much batter. We went between Christmas and New Year's and the place was full by 11:15 a.m. . It did take over an hour to order, eat and pay, but likely because of the holiday crowd. Will definitely be going back. P.s. The price was definitely right, my buddy lost the coin toss and had to pay the bill (somehow that made it taste even better)

Having our grandparents over for Thanksgiving this year was just so wonderful! On top of that, the meal we ordered from Oakwood Cafe was absolutely delicious and reasonbale in cost. We got everything from the cranberry sauce to the dessert. The portions were perfect and most importantly we were able to enjoy a wonderful meal while spending our whole time together stress-free! Will seriously consider ordering again for Christmas! Why not?? :)

I'm sorry I got sucked into buying a Groupon for this place. Supposed to be good for $30 but ordered takeout for lunch and they wouldn't honour it. Came back for dinner as it's expiring today, ordered the specials and the waitress tells us we're not able to use it for the dinner specials either. The potato salad and Ultimate Clubhouse was good at lunch but by the time we ordered the exact same thing for dinner (but not the special), the Groupon was worth $1.99 in value. They sure screwed themselves out of a customer. Too bad their opportunity to gain a new customer has caused me to post this. Just finished eating. The service was very good and the meal was decent. Too bad they burned me coming in.

I walked in at 8:30 to meet my cousin on Thursday and I was greeted with great cheer from the staff member. Christmas songs were playing and the restaurant was warm and inviting. The food was great (the cubed potatoes were amazing) and the service was fast and cheery. I really enjoyed my meal and I will bring my family and friends in the future. I loved it!!!

I've been craving...CRAVING!!...a Reuben for about 4 months. I had some medical things going on and was not able to have one...but I thought about them often... Today was my day to finally have one. No pressure, Oakwood Café. ???? It was FANTASTIC! It will be my go-to Reuben spot now. My husband had the Johan's Club and it was wonderful! Reminiscent of the legendary Wagon Wheel club sandwich. Thick slices of real turkey, bacon, tomato. So good! We will see you in person when we can again!!

I've been raving about this place since I first visited it 7 years ago, but I recently met up with some friends for Sunday brunch here and I was reminded of just how good their food was. I got the posh beans on toast and it was so tasty and filling! Their bottomless coffee was great too. All of the servers were very friendly. The Oakwood Bistro Restaurant Café ‘Oh, hey you’re in early today, well before closing time. Hey, welcome back. Nice to see ya’, chirps a voice from just inside the dining area. ‘You could sit off there to the side or you could sit in this freshly wiped table. A little wet, but clean.’ The ever so friendly Kendra, over at the neighbourhood café, typically will greet as you come in the door. She has been doing it for 18 years of the café’s 25-year existence at 666 Osborne Street and she is pretty well synonymous with this eatery. They are open from 9 am to 3ish pm every day except weekends at which time hours extend to 8 pm in the evening. I have benefitted from that 3 ish thinking back a time or two ago. There is no rushing the customers here. So, I did take my place at the freshly wiped table, a little damp as it was but it dried very quickly. As I sat myself down, paper in hand, I noticed the background music taking me back to days gone by with “oh little Jeannie.’ Yes, Elton John has followed many of us, especially us boomers, over the years. It was a lively breakfast crowd practically every table was filled. There was a group of young twenty somethings looking like they were on a breakfast break from work. A quiet couple beside the window, another along the wall just beyond the doorway. A few Spanish speakers at a table socially distanced away. Although the rigors of social distancing are in place, signs of the mask do not appear to be enforced, amongst staff, unlike in some restaurants. It was hardly any time before Kendra had a menu in my hand and had an order taken as to what I would like to drink. She was a performer scurrying from one table to the next. ‘Here’s your coffee’ and off to the next table. God help her, but she did not have us waiting long. When she stopped to give me a refill, I asked her name at which point with her jovial smile and good humour, says she, tongue firmly planted in cheek ‘if it’s for a compliment it’s Kendra, but if it’s a complaint I’m Erin. I still actually need a little more time to decide and so the scurrying continued. Another customer to greet, another order to take and another bill to settle. She complimented several menu items as if each were all can’t misses each one in its turn worthy of a try before the customer was sold. Soon enough it was back to me. After getting some clarification, I felt certain that my choice would be satisfying. I love Benny’s as the menu refers to them. In no time at my table, I had my two eggs benedict with the white well done, the yoke runny coated with hollandaise sauce over top a bed of cut up salmon on English muffins and a side of baked cube breakfast potatoes. As I pierced through the egg, salmon and English muffin the yolk came oozing out blending with the oh so fine rich creamy hollandaise sauce - a show stopper, a winner to be sure. Along with that, I had my two toasted buttered ryes with marmalade on the side. Now, that was a breakfast of champions as far as I was concerned, a good fill to kick start the day. Oh, here comes Kendra on a scurry with some more hot coffee. Mmmm delicious as another fork goes in having another look at what Pallister has to say about Phase 4 and the further loosening of the grip covid19 has had over this province. Hmm could do with a good movie over at the cinema soon. Can hear customers settling their bills just behind. ‘That was really good’ says one. ‘We’ll be back soon’, says another. Another scurry around and here’s your bill for when you are ready. Oh, yeah, bill is similar to that place I had brekkie with my brother last week. Before taking leave I check in ‘bye Kendra’ ‘have a nice day’. Typically, leave taking is part of the dining experience. ‘Do I know your name?’ she asks. ‘I can now put a name to your face’, says she. With all that said, the meal in front of you is just a snapshot of the bigger picture. No doubt, you will find your experience as part of this bigger picture time well spent. I am sure you will love the food and the neighbourhood vibe at the Oakwood Café.

We enjoyed our first visit for breakfast (which they serve all day by the way). Eggs Benedict were done right but the potatoes were cold. English breakfast was good too but my only gripe there was bacon was skimpy and way to thin (in my opinion). Otherwise our server was great and prompt and we will come back for another visit for sure. Note windows are a little thin (read cold) if you plan to sit near there during winter months.

We've only been here half a dozen times or so times and she already remembered our orders. The five dollar breakfast special is as good as it gets anywhere in the city. I've been there twice now with my wife and we both really enjoy their food. Last time we went for burgers and fries and I have to say that if you want to try something different in that department, this restaurant does it very well. Instead of the usual option to upgrade your fries to poutine, they have a whole long list of options to try that include greek, marinara, alfredo, mexican, etc. toppings for your fries. The burger options are equally diverse, so you can get them to match (or not). Most importantly - the food always tastes great! I've only had dinner there, but there breakfast prices are very good value, so we're interested in checking that out soon.

This my third visit. Rate is the average of three visits. Overall excellent service. They check on you appropriately. BUssing person is attentive in bringing coffee. Milk in a jar and creams are individually packed. No brown sugar unless requested. Ask and they seem to accommodate most of what they can. The food is great. Hash browns are crisp and warm. Sauces are well made, not too greasy. (my pet peeve about most places... too greasy) Sizeable portions. (by no means they are supersized.) Usual american breakfast, eggs benedict(florentine), smoke salmon eggs benedict, pancakes and one dish I cannot remember were what I had. Decor - This place is well decorated witg small details every corner. Mirror wall provides the feeling of open/large room. Color is warming wood type. I would definitely come out for a breakfast dates. (many old folks visit and usually that is a good sign of a welcoming atmosphere) I hope this helps. Enjoy!

Went here on Saturday, September 4 for their Burger Week burger. How totally disappointing. It was advertised as a Crown Royal and Coke burger, and was supposed to come with fried onion rings on it with cheese, a rye and Coke reduction sauce on brisket and ground beef patty. When it came the burger was incredibly dry and tasteless. No hint of the Crown and Coke reduction, a light smattering of cheese and one or maybe two of the onions. I think the only excuse is either that the chef forgot to complete both mine and my sons' burgers, or ran out of ingredients and just put something together. When we were in the car after and my son showed me a picture of what the burger on the Oakwood web site looked like and compared it to what we actually got, I laughed. Then I got kind of mad at how deceptive the photo was. It was far worse than what any burger chain shows as what their food looks like and what you actually got. If he showed me that photo when we were in the restaurant I for sure would have asked for either a new burger that resembled the one in the photo, or just left.

Second time we went back, I ordered the same thing and the bread wasn't fried, it wasn't even toasted, it was just soggy. The server asked how our meal was and I told her it wasn't what it was supposed to be and she shrugged and said "thanks for the feedback, I've never had fried bread so I don't know what it's supposed to be like" and that was all the resolution received. No offer to even bring new bread that was actually fried?

I should start by saying that I had visited previously and their eggs benedict menu is fantastic. This time I was there for lunch. Nothing was bad. The service was okay, the food was okay. But nothing was impressive either. We ordered the chicken and waffles, and the mac and cheese burger. The chicken and waffles we upgraded to their carrot cake waffles as suggested in the menu. However, the cake waffles made the dish off balance in terms of sweetness. The chicken was crispy but a little dry inside. However the eggs were a perfect over easy. The mac and cheese burger was also just okay. The patties weren't very well seasoned so they were a little on the bland side. And there was a very small amount of mac and cheese on the burger. However, the bun was tasty and well selected for the size of the burger. And the flavours combined on the burger with other toppings was well done. Because breakfast was excellent last time, I must say this visit was a little disappointing. I probably wouldn't return unless I was going back for breakfast only. Breakfast seems to be their strength and they do it very well.

Would give it 0 stars if I could. Kayla our server was awful. Waited 15 minutes to be served. Food was cold. My friend and my meal tasted awful. Couldn't get a server to come to us even though it was slow. When Kayla did come back we informed her our meals didn't taste good. She walked away and brought back our bills. When I mentioned that my friend had one bite of hers, she argued with me saying all the toppings were gone and it must have been good if she ate the toppings. Paid for the meal and she crumpled my bill, when I asked for the bill she said I don't need it. When I mentioned she shouldn't have to pay for something when she didn't eat it, she said snapped and said I'm sure you guys can afford it. Dissapointed.

We had never been to the Oakwood cafe and we were not disappointed. Nice little place with good service . We had the hot turkey sandwich which was very good and tasty, the gravy was amazing. The only thing that would have made it better was another slice of french bread on top of the turkey then the gravy. Also tried was a burger that had an egg on it, the patty was generous and it was good , the fries were homemade and delicious. Will definitely try this place again and highly recommend.

A terrible experience ,had a steak sandwich last night and the meat was bad. I took like 3 bits from a 3 inch square steak and left almost half and complained , the waiter said well you ate almost all you should have said something sooner. I am not a complainer so , not to make a scene in front of out of town quest that was with me i tried to swallow meat that was old and starting to spoil.I had an upset stomach all evening and still this morning. I went with a group for dinner on a Sunday. I had a toddler with me and was disappointed with the lack of proper high chairs. They only had ones that clipped to the tables which aren't very sturdy or a booster seat that had the belt missing. My toddler only had kids menu bacon eggs and he was served last out of everyone which was odd because it wasn't a complex order. I ordered the oakwood burger and was not impressed with it. The party was mushy and the burger itself was quite bland. I will say that my wife's meal was quite good. Perhaps it was just that days burger batch. I would still come back in the future but I hope that they invest in some proper high chairs that stand alone as they are easier to manage with a toddler that can be quite active.

was having a pretty bad day so I decided to order from here on skip since I've heard a lot of good things and let me tell you they did not disappoint! even with the cold weather the food was packaged great so it stayed hot and made my day so much better !! 10/10 recommend

I called in 25mins before they opened and they answered!! I explained that I had a coupon and that I start my shift at 11am understanding that they open at this time. I asked if they could possibly have my food ready 10mins before open so I could make it to work. The lady working today asked the chef, and they both agreed to do this for me. Truly went above and beyond, I couldn't ask for better service. WAY TO GO GUYS YOU GOT ME HOOKED!

Wonderful family dinner to celebrate our birthdays! Unknown to us we had the restaurant to ourselves which was wonderful, especially because our year old granddaughter was out for her first restaurant visit. Wait staff put us totally at ease and served up a great meal! Even baked a birthday cake for us!

Kudos to owner Wendy May and server to ensure people are complying to proper vaccinations requirements when visiting restaurant. Glad to see! Sad to see MLA’s trying to use their status to skirt by the requirement. Seine River MLA Janice Morley-Lecomte should be fully aware of the requirement just like everyone in Manitoba is aware. Oakwood Café, should be commended for enforcing the rules. Winnipeg residents should note this restaurant for a place to visit as support! ????????

Awful service awful food! Waited 20 mins just for the server to take our order (after the menus we're closed). Asked for a refill on coffee and never actually got it, when we finally got our meals my wife was told her veggies would be right out but only received them after the meal was finished! If I could give it zero stars, I would.

Not as nice as I remember. New decor and atmosphere is a bit harsh and cold. Beet latkes were extremely mushy and bland. Service was not as good as usual. Not sure I'll be back again.

The food was fine, but the service absolutely killed our experience. We waited to be seated, alongside three groups, for over ten minutes before anyone even looked in our direction. No one greeted anybody, no one told us that they'd be with us in a minute, no one took names for a waiting list. Servers weaved through the large group of us who were waiting in order to tend to their other tables, and did not acknowledge us. Dining customers in the area were clearly noticing the situation, and some even commented to their servers, but those servers just shrugged them off. When we were finally seated, no one apologized for the wait. There was no manager presence, and the wait staff was extremely disorganized and did not prioritize well.

I am compelled to write this review after my experience at the Oakwood. Specifically, in regard to one dish: the beet latkes. While I have tried bits of other dishes (which were all delicious), I will never order anything else from the Oakwood. The first time I ordered the beet latkes I did not know what they were. I was in for a tremendous surprise. The beet latkes are two patties made from shredded beets, with eggs on top, and a horseradish dill sour cream. My experience eating this breakfast has been nothing short of spiritual. I have, in all honestly, dreamed about eating this celestial dish. If you're not eating at the Oakwood, you are doing yourself a disservice.

Wow, great meal all around and we certainly ordered a diverse array of food. Vegan chili was obviously made from scratch and tasted amazing. The Oakwood burger came with handmade patties and was also delicious. Topped it off with poutine which had tasty gravy, I mean this gravy was was tasty! Thank you Oakwood Cafe, we will be back!
