My husband and I found this hidden gem tonight. I can not say enough about the amazing service and home cooked meals we enjoyed. Portions were very large (I took half mine home). Everything was made from scratch... homemade fries, burgers even the greek salad dressing was made in house. Highly recommend! Awesome food and service.

Visits have been getting more and more frequent as this is my in-laws favorite restaurant. Been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and can't say I've ever had a problem. I like the fact you can order breakfast all day and are not cut off at a certain time. Very family oriented and casual atmosphere.

Come on in and seat yourself. Servers will come right on down with coffee and menus. All the food is home made from scratch and great quality. Been going there my whole life with my dad and will bring my kids down one day. Not the best price but for the food. Definitely worth it.

The food here seems to be inconsistent. One day I order a Fatboy and it's fantastic, the next time it's just alright. It is better to eat in than to get takeout. For example, the takeout sauce containers are those little folded paper cups, which is usually fine, except when it spills honey dill all inside the styrofoam takeout container and soaks your chicken fingers before you get home. Cash only, too, which is inconvenient.

I have heard the food is great here. Gave it a try during a breakfast. I wouldn't know about the taste of the food because we sat there for 45 minutes waiting for our food before walking out. I seen our waitress rush to the kitchen to actually go check on our order for the first time as we were getting up to walk out. They had just started to cook our order they said, conveniently timed given our waitress probably just gave them or reminded them of our order. They offered a half assed apology about being busy at breakfast but the wait was just too much. I will give it 2 stars because the food that others were eating around us looked delicious.

Fries were decent but cold and done in cold oil. Chili was not well balanced but the burger patties were fresh and tasty. Bun on the double cheeseburger was suspect and flimsy, should have knife and forked it. Coleslaw was unremarkable. Service was friendly and the food was brought out fairly quickly. Smelled like 30 years worth of whiskey and cigarettes inside and the decor was about average for Winnipeg dive joint, aged and well worn. Would try again based on the menu offerings, prices though for alternate entrees aside from burgers seemed a bit ok the high side. Co diner had a Reuben which looked quite nice. Breakfast looks to be good, I'd give that a one two one two check check..

After hearing about Johnny's from my sister for a LONG time, I decided it was time to check it out. Hubby and I went for a late lunch mid-week. There were only a few other patrons in the restaurant. Things to note: This is NOT wheelchair accessible. There is a step up into the building, and then again, steps up to the restaurant. The place is clean, but the interior decor is dated. CASH ONLY. There is a cash machine in the lobby, but it is not clearly identified on the door when you enter. Maybe my fault, but I didn't notice that lack of stickers for credit card / debit. There was no sign "Cash Only" upon entering the premises. Good thing hubby and I had enough actual cash between the two of us! Hubby had soup and salad. Soup was correct temperature, and very tasty. Salad had a bit of a problem, so it was sent back and corrected. Good flavor, variety of garden veggies. I had the club house and fries. Sandwich was generous and very good. Bacon was crisp without being brittle, and only a bit of lettuce - just the way I like it. Excellent fries! Wait staff was attentive and friendly, and responded immediately when we pointed out the problem with the salad.

This was once one of our favourite places to eat and we were very excited to go back. The food is amazing, however...we are completely disgusted by our latest experience. One of the kitchen staff in charge of preparation and dishes went to the washroom and did not wash his hands before returning to work. Stopped for breakfast, difficult to find a parking spot due to small lot. Interior is a bit dated and drab. Coffee was good, breakfast was fine, I got a breakfast special and my Son got the Everything Omelette which he enjoyed. The biggest issue was they only accept cash, I rarely carry cash anymore and luckily I had enough to pay our bill or this review would be way more negative. I cannot understand a restaurant, a sit down restaurant that doesn't accept debit or credit cards. I wonder how many people have to find a nearby ATM for cash every day?

I caught the sight of this restaurant as I was traveling down Marion. Curiousity brought me into the door. What a wonderful place reminiscent of the restaurants that I frequented as a child. Good food, good service, great prices. It felt like coming home. Try their "crazy hashbowns" where they add roasted vegetables to the potatoes. Tried this spot out for breakfast and wasn’t disappointed. Eggs, bacon and hashbrowns were all cooked good. Service was fast and friendly and the price was very reasonable. I Would eat here again. Yum!!

Beware though, they only take cash and there are zero signs posted anywhere stating as such, and they only inform you when you go to pay after you've eaten. This was the 2nd time I went for lunch at Johnny's and I was equally impressed both times. It's an old school Greek restaurant (cash only) with fantastic food and service!! The portions were huge (had the fatboy and fries) as well as hot and fresh. Lots of booths and tables if you want to go by yourself or with a large group. We met the two brothers (who are the owners at the till when paying) they and appear do the cooking as well. They were extremely friendly and wanted to make sure we were happy with our meals. If you decide to give them a try you won't be disappointed.

Hidden gem. While the decor is dated.. this is nothing in compared to the service and food you receive. The waitresses are fantastic. The food is comforting. Always a great experience. And having young kids... they ALWAYS bring their food first!! This is huge being a parent. Went for saturday prime rib dinner special and loved it. Salad of your choice, lemon potatoes, glazed carrots and garlic toast. Meat was cooked to my liking( med-rare) and was exceptionally tender. The worst service ever. My mother and I sat there for a hour while everyone else got served before us, even the patrons that arrived aftwr us got their order in a timely manner. After a hour of waiting the waitress told us they were making our order now, but we had to leave. If you have the seating, make sure your staff can keep up. We went out for dinner (10 of us) to Johnnys for my mother’s birthday. The last of us arrived at about 6:20pm, everyone already had drinks. It then took another 15 minutes for the waitress to come back and get drinks, and the orders. We then waited 55 minutes for the first of our food. It then took another 15 minutes for the waitress (who wasn’t even OUR waitress in the first place) to bring out the rest of the food. One of us got the wrong order first of all. But he took the wrong order because it had been so long. During the meal, not one, not two, but THREE of us found HAIR in our food. One of us found 2 hairs in the fries, another a black & grey hair in the fries, and lastly another hair. When confronting the waitress she didn’t even offer to make new meals, we had to ask multiple times. At this point we are angry and hungry, most of the rest of their group losing their appetite after finding these multiple hairs. When going to pay the owner proceeded to argue with us, stating that it was from the burlap sacks the potatoes were in when they ship. Do they not wash the potatoes? And since when is burlap black and/or grey? He argued about giving us discounts but regressed once he realized we were serious (and only then giving us half off). When leaving we noticed in the kitchen not one of the cooks wearing a hairnet, or gloves when cooking, touching food, etc. And that the waitresses, who also have no hairnets were in and out of the actual kitchen during the cooking. This place used to be so good, and I’m so disappointed this is how it’s come to be. Won’t be back.

I used to go there for the food all of the time. Lately the service has been awful. We were waiting 45 minutes to be even acknowledged we were there. We sat with a bucket of dirty dishes in front of us on the table the whole time. I then had to wait 45 minutes again for a milk shake. My friend asked for her eggs basted and they were rock hard. They served her meal then she had to wait half an hour for her sausages to come separately and then I got my mine shortly after that. People who came after us were served meals and left before we even got ours. So we were there for an hour and a half before we got our meal. Never had bad service like that..sorry but I did not leave a tip at all. Not going back there again.

I went with a group of friends and the service was slow at best. Others who came in after us were served their food way before us. Our orders were all quite simple and shouldn't have taken the forty minutes it took to get our food. One guy had a sensitivity to something that came with what he ordered and requested that it not, and that request was ignored. Another guy ignored his food after a few bites and didn't seem like he was enjoying it. They also need to learn how to actually wrap a wrap, both of the wraps at our tables promptly fell apart when they were picked up. Come time to pay, when asked for takeout containers for our leftovers, it took them over five minutes to grab us those containers and used that time to chat and gossip behind the service station instead. The only good things about this place are the portion sizes and pricing. They should probably invest in at least a single debit and credit machine instead of relying on the ATM in their entrance hallway. I only found out it was cash only after I had my drink from the server. The writing stating this was only on the menu in small small print.
