You may have noticed that it has an average rating is basically the best one, and it's based on a high number of reviews, so we may say that the evaluation is quite accurate. If many people have bothered to value when they've done well, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to write tatings when these are correct and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Coffee Shop is classified in the category of Japanese restaurant.
Love it here. Always great for dine in (takeaway or delivery isn't the same but that isn't their fault). Some of the best gyoza in town, ramen is great and flavourful, kimchi pork hot pot (pictured) was delicious and the yakisoba dishes are great for anyone getting in to more exotic Japanese style food.
Arguably the best ramen in the city hands down. If ramen’s what you’re looking for, you’ve found the place to go. Enjoy! Thank you Dwarf no Cachette for always being consistently delicious! From happy customer typing this review from vehicle after having some genuine warm ramen on a cold winter day
Very friendly staff and great food. I had the honey lemon shaved ice and my friend had one of the parfaits. Highly recommend this nice cafe.
Awesome food selections. Japanese all the way. I like how their food taste so delicious even tho it's delivered. I may say they really have good food. Quality and quantity in one. Big servings worth the price paid. Friendly staffs and food is always great.
I would like to preface this review by saying my true review would have been 4.5 stars if I was able to rate this restaurant like that on here. I visited the restaurant at around 1 pm on a Wednesday afternoon. We were greeted right away and sat at our table. The servers were very polite and answered questions we had about menu items. The menu is astounding. There are so many options to try and everything looks great. I like that they have included photos of some of the dishes for those who may be unfamiliar with Japanese foods or what they may be ordering. I visited with two others and we all chose different dishes to order. All of the dishes were great. Even though they were all very diff, they were equally delicious. I will def be visiting again to try more from the menu! The decor was cute. Little dwarfs scattered around and cutesy type of theme. There are a lot of pictures on the wall that are available for purchase. Although we did not go upstairs, it is my understanding there is a small shop upstairs. The only reason i did not rate this restaurant at 5 stars is because it was pretty humid and muggy when we go there. I guess they had their AC turned off. Would have been a bit more comfortable with a nice cool environment to dine it but no biggie we still enjoyed. The space is on the smaller side and some of tables are close together but it didn’t hinder our experience at all. Def recommend checking this place out for some great food and fun experience.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED HANDS DOWN THE BEST AUTHENTIC JAPANESE FOOD RESTAURANT IN WINNIPEG I'm not taking about sushi here, cause they don't have sushi here, we're talking about japanese dishes. I've been to Japan and this is the only restaurant in Winnipeg that serves exactly like the items you'd be eating in Japan. PROS • small but cute restaurant • has a gift shop upstairs for you to check out while you're waiting for your food or even after • dishes are decently priced and portioned bigger than usual • home cooked, high quality dishes • known for their desserts • barely any wait time to get seated • if you're a weeb like me, they have maid cafe nights (Tuesday evening only) that you'll most likely enjoy • they have daily specials if you follow them on instagram! CONS • good food takes times, meaning you'll be waiting a good 20 minutes before you get what you ordered • street parking • small space for seating areas • usually understaffed TRY MY RECOMMENDATIONS • egg teriyaki mayo takoyaki • dwarf miso ramen • chicken kaarage don • deluxe okonomiyaki • omurice curry cheese • hamburg steak curry • chicken katsu curry • chicken karaage curry (my personal favorite) trust me, you don't want to skip out on this restaurant!
Love this place! Best place to get authentic Japanese food and milkshakes and their gift shop is very cute. I especially love the maid café on Tuesdays ^^
This place is great. Nice to see a Japanese restaurant that serves things other than sushi. The menu has alot of selection, I really want to try everything they have. Servings are big, I had the pork katsu curry and it was fantastic. I also tried the Hiroshima okonomiyaki and it was super tasty too. Staff is very friendly and polite. Will probably eat here again.
This is an amazing place. The food is fantastic. Unfortunately I can't go into this store but the food was fantastic! Shop local ;)
Have eaten here and wasn’t Inlove. Too much mayo but people stand by this place. The place smells and my daughter refused to eat here. The gift store was sad.
The only authentic japanese restaurant i have ever been in manitoba. I love their take on their takoyaki with their russian roulette. Highly recommended. Plus a small shop on their second floor brimming with authentic japanese stuff.
Great authentic home style Japanese food. Big portion had to take some home! Nice gift shop upstairs too!
Great place! Not a lot of seating, but I have yet to have a bad thing on the menu. Service is a little slow when it gets busy, but the managers have been known to come out and help. This is NOT a sushi place. There is so much more to Japanese food than just sushi and this place offers all of those other options. Everything from takoyaki to ramen, okonomiyaki, Japanese Curry rice, and hamburg steaks. Owned by a real deal Japanese family. You will not be disappointed!
I tried Yakisoba with pork. Well, what they call "pork" is actually bacon, which I didn't want and which ruined the dish regardless had I been into bacon or not, because of the crazy amount of grease. Would I order from there again? The answer is a big maybe. But I wouldn't order anything with "pork".
Had butter chicken, chicken yakisoba and seafood yakisoba. I’d give it a 6/10 as I’ve never had any good experience with their entrees ~ unless I have their ramen. However, their dessert menu is spectacular! Best matcha cheesecake in town ^w^
I've been waiting so patiently for their dine in to open and tonight's food dishes didn't disappoint ❤ Food was prepared quickly and was so delicious ???? Just a recommendation but would be a good idea to hire more waiters/waitresses ????
Good food and also got some nice vegetarian options. Server was helpful ????
Very yummy food that we got as well as this amazing Sakura Jelkshake !! Very charming place, we will definitely be back to try more items
I went to this restaurant and it was not that busy but for some reason it took awhile to get food and took even longer for a TO GO tempura don (picture displays the oddest tempura). Also got the pork katsu don and it was so dry. The service was terrible and waited 10 minutes to pay. I will not be coming back.
huge menu selection, drink selection and dessert selection and everything sounded so good I couldn’t decide what I wanted to get. Came with a group of 5 people and everyone got different apps and different entrees and everyone LOVED everything. The croquette is the bomb dot com. Best I’ve ever had. And not the mention the place is cute af and brilliant food presentation. Fair prices, 10/10 recommend
Went for the first time and the food was delicious! Can't wait to keep coming back because the quality is incredible and there's so many things to try!
One of the best places that offers Japanese food that's NOT sushi. The service is friendly and quick. The serving size is huge and the food is really delicious. I do not regret coming here and I'm sure I will come back over and over. ❤
Been eating here for years . . . . I have a tendency to always order the same thing. Ton katsu ramen. Love love love this but have been seeing the portion size cut more and more and more. Back 2 years ago you would get a full ton katsu cutlet with your soup . . . . Then it was 2/3 and then half. There were some delivery company issues through the beginning of the covid pandemic so I had not had them in a long time. I understand things are really hard because of covid but when I pay close to 20 dollars for a bowl of soup I expect more than 4 slivers of pork. The last time I ordered I literally got 4 pieces of pork with my soup less than a quarter of a cutlet and instead of the takoyaki I ordered I received croquet. I explained the error to the restaurant and they did not offer me any reimbursement. I love this place but im starting to question why I should spend my money there when I no longer get much for my money. Very dissapointing Was going to order from them today before I posted this to see if they could redeem themselves. However the Google website says they are open for delivery and pick up but there Skip the dishes says they are not available for either or to make a later purchase. I am sad that ill have to find another good ramen joint though im sure ill still order every now and then. . . . If I can.
The atmosphere of this establishment is very unique, and very fun. Their choice of music nicely fit the decore ordained in their restaurant. The food tasted really good, and was very reasonably priced. A wonderful place to go on dates, very cutesy.
Great food and great service. It can get cramped in the restaurant when it's during their peak times, regardless. The food is satiating and the staff members are always courteous and polite. I adore how creative they are with their menus and food creations ????
I won't likely be coming back here. The service, while friendly, was quite slow; but the real issue was the food. Neither of us enjoyed any of the three dishes we tried. It sucks because there isn't much for Japanese cuisine anywhere north east of the river.
Great service, relaxing atmosphere, tasty and cute food. Its Japanese style home cooking. Price is just right for the large portions you end up getting. I highly suggest trying out the various takoyakis they have. The desserts are also adorable. And apparently they have Maid and Butler nights if you into that.
Food is delicious and easily worth the price. The okonomiyaki is fantastic!
Dont be so cheap on vegetables. I know all of the vegetable are getting pricey due to season BUT it's absolutely bad idea to get rid of all of the vegetables on the dish. As soon as i opened take out container, they was no vegetables for …
Lovely atmosphere and tasty food.
Food is amazing! Best ramen in the city!!
Service
An amazing selection of Japanese cuisine, drinks, and desserts! The portions are more than fair, and everything tastes so fresh! I would recommend the takoyaki and ramen dishes. The staff are so polite and friendly, and the cafe itself is adorable.
One and only MAID CAFE in Winnipeg on Tuesdays. Great variety of modern Japanese food.
Why the hell does this place have to be so god damn amazing? Even if it's kind of a greasy spoon, it's by far and away the best non-sushi Japanese food restraunt in the whole city of Winnipeg. Their takoyaki is like crack (especially teriyaki egg mayo), their menu is vast and diverse with a rainbow of different flavors for different people, the food is filling and down-to-earth home-style cooking, and the service has always been phenomenal whenever I went. Plus the cozy cottage-like interior complete with loft gift shop and borderline romantic music from Ghibli films, even the atmosphere is to die for. If I could give this six stars, I would. DnC for life!
Undoubtedly the best Ramen place in Winterpeg. Karaage is also top notch. Will be back again.
My favorite place for Japanese cuisine. Staff ate very friendly and I have never had an issue here. I try to hit this place up twice a month if I can. It can be pricey to be here but it is well worth it.
Came here with two of my friends and we had a very nice time. The food (Chicken Karaage Don) was excellent and it tasted wonderful, the service was good and our waiter lady was nice, and everything just felt very warming and calm. I would love to bring my friends back here again and I would recommend this place to others
Has a wide range of foods to choose from. From what I tried was the ramen it was pretty good. If you're in the st. Boniface area and like Japanese food, to go ahead and have a taste yourself.
Udon bowl with kimchi was delicious. Milk tea cheesecake is amazing. 6/ 5 stars
Got Miso Ramen for today with "Death Takoyaki". Takoyaki was so tender and perfectly cooked with a kick of spices in the end. The Miso Ramen is generous and tasty. I will recommend it to everyone who wants an authentic Japanese food experience in the city; it is only one of the two authentic Japanese restaurants in the city.
Went there just to learn what that okonomiyaki food was all about (and why Ranma liked it so much), and now I understand: it was delicious! I almost wish he would end up with Ukyo. …
I love the ramen. The broth is tasty. Generous serving of meat and vegetable. The menu also include dishes common in Japan but not usually found in Japanese restaurants in North America (ie. Okonomiyaki, omurice, doria, etc.) FYI no sushi here
I've had their ramen more than a few times. And lately I've been wondering why I kept returning. Broth is bland, not much flavor and pretty watery. Guess the only thing I enjoyed here was the takoyaki. Service could use a bit of improvement as well.
I was super excited when this place opened, because it seemed to signal a trend of non-sushi Japanese restaurants becoming a reality. Been a handful of times. Unfortunately the food is somewhat underwhelming. They offer a huge diversity of dishes, but they don't really seem to specialize in anything. Things, I've found, are good, but not amazing. Atmosphere and staff are all great, but I'm not finding myself attracted back.
Absolutely delicious food; plus the Ghibli music and friendly staff makes for the perfect dining experience. Wish I could give 6 stars
First visit. Will be back again. So much i want to try! I really recommend the black sesame and the red bean ice cream. Our food was super yummy too and the waitresses were both really friendly.
Great restaurant with a great atmosphere. Food was amazing and not too expensive. The restaurant is definitely unique and you’d have trouble finding something similar in the city. Come here if you want amazing authentic Japanese food!
When I went here for the first time, I was enchanted by the atmosphere and in sharing it with people I know, they say it sounds like exactly how Japan is! There was a girl doing a lip sync to J-Pop music while we ate which was so quirky and fun! The menu is diverse and as a vegetarian, I found menu items to try. Loved it and recommend! Good food, strange and cool environment. Seating was a bit cramped but the menu had lots of choice and we were all able to try different things, so that was fun. Menu was quite unique for Winnipeg. Would go again!
I really enjoyed the dwarf Ramen soup It had a really great taste. Unfortunately, that's all I had. Can't wait to go back to try the rest. Definitely a repeat
The food and the restaurants atmosphere is very nice. One critism I have is for them to insulate their outside door. It's not nice when you have seating in front of the entrance and having the cold winter air engulf you as you're waiting for the food, it's very uncomfortable.
Culinary adventure in St Boniface. Unique and delicious menu that is a fusion of eastern and western traditions. Be prepared for new and exciting flavors. Portions are very large, so order accordingly. Desserts are fun and beautiful! Recommend.
For me, the food is good not great. That being said, my gf LOVES the food and she’s more into Japanese fusion cuisine. The best part of this place is it’s uniqueness. That’s why I’d recommend it to anyone looking for something new/different.
Very good japanese food and service. Just it can get quite busy might need to wait a ltitle bit. Ramen is quite good.... just a tad on the salty side. Noodle is tender and the pork is tasty. Not bad at all especially in Winnipeg!
Food was great! But the wait time was quite long, and then food wasn't as hot as I'd of liked. Regardless, very tasty.
Visited for lunch with some co-workers. Food was mediocre and definitely very salty. Service was quite slow and the food took a lengthy amount of time to come out, despite pre-ordering. Ramen was not the best, but not the worst (again, very salty).
Really good. Serves traditional Japanese home cooking. Have only had the ramen each time I've been here and it's consistently delicious. Very accommodating with adjusting existing menu items to meet vegetarian dietary needs. Staff is super friendly. Lovely cute decor with garden gnomes around. Had a milkshake once and it was super good. Would definitely have it again. Desserts on the menu looked really good but have not tried yet. Hopefully one day. One of our favourites in the city.
Amazing place! The food is authentic and delicious, with fantastic service. This is a great spot to hit up with some friends. Never disappoints. Death miso Ramen to die for, I highly recommend it. ????
The food is good. Nothing special though. The takoyaki was kind of soggy which was really disappointing. The Katsu Curry was standard and so was the fried noodles.
First time at Dwarf の Cachette and we really enjoyed their Ramens ! The Menu selection blew my mind as It's full of MUST try japanese dishes ! Confy atmosphere and fair price, go for it ????
Cute place, great location. Service could be faster and more attentive, but they are knowledgeable. Lots of carb-heavy and/or fried foods - not a lot of healthy options on the menu. We also sampled the black sesame cheesecake which not only …
10/10, phenomenal, incredible. Best Japanese food I've had in Winnipeg by a long shot. The food is absolutely incredible, staff are super nice, and the atmosphere is lovely. But for real, the food is mind blowing. Mind. Blowing.
Great food. Don't be intimidated by the death takoyaki. It really isn't hot, but the spice they use on it has this almost floral thing going on. Highly recommended.
Highly recommend this place. The ramen is fantastic, and they have a diverse menu - including a sub category for Tantan Ramen if you’re into spicy soup base. Both my wife and I had a wonderful night out at this place.
Cute restaurant, friendly staff, and perfect food ????????????
Love going here. Food and service is always great. Menu is vast and so I haven’t found my fav dish yet but I’ll keep searching! Russian roulette takoyaki is always fun.
I love the food here! The soup was great and their Katsu appetizer is amazing! I like cabbage, but the cabbage in my udon hot pot was meh. I would still recommend to try this place out!
Has fantastic and authentic Japanese food. Delicious and pretty good portions. Also has a Maid Cafe theme every Tuesday. Fun with groups of friends or family. Highly recommended
Been here few times, the owner is very friendly and always there when you need something. There are not a lot of Japanese restaurants that focuses on non sushi Japanese food and this is one of them. Their deep fried pork curry rice tastes better than most of the Japanese restaurant in town. Ramen however is not particularly the best ones I had - well and I am comparing with ones I had in japan though. There is also a collection of Japanese merchandise on the 2nd floor.
Less than a star. Horrible place. Almost waited an hour to get food served meanwhile people who came in after us were served their food first. Food was terrible. Don katsu ramen was very salty and not what i ordered. I confirmed with the waitress beforehand if it waa Don Katsu broth and not the katsu in the ramen which she said it was the broth. I've dined in many japanese restaurants throughout Japan, Korea, Taiwan and in Canada but this by far is a disgrace to japanese cuisine.
Their Sakura Milkshake is a must-taste as well as their Chocolate Melonpan near the heart of Provencher.
I love the ramen here. So many options, there is honestly something for everyone- you are certain to leave Dwarf no Cachette full! The portions are generous, and the staff are knowledgable (if you don't know what to order, just ask for a recommendation! I have not been disappointed by their suggestions yet). You have to try the White Chocolate Matcha Latte; it is to die for!
Wonderful spot that serves authentic Japanese food. Our party was greeted with a warm welcome and were seated instantly. Our food was brought out in a decent time. Presentation was fantastic. Food was hot and tasty. Portion sizes are great. Service was stellar and prices were affordable. Looking forward to making this a regular spot.
Legitimately the best ramen in Winnipeg.. obviously there's not a huge base for comparison, but if you appreciate perfectly cooked eggs, the appropriate temperature and tremendous broth you'll be suitability impressed. After many disappointing treks around this city please be assured by this ramen nerd that there's no better execution in this small city and you must must must eat here. Must.
Awesome food, some of the best Japanese and Japanese style food in the city. A quirky little place which is always a pleasure to visit. The gift shop upstairs has been mostly replaced for seating last time we visited, which is a little bit of a disappointment.
I've lived in Japan for the last three years and the food here is on par with Japanese food available in Japan. They're doing a great job! Friendly staff, good location, nice service, great food and decor! Looking forward to going back next time I'm in town.
Came here on Tuesday at around 6:30, only 2 other customers in the restaurant so it didn’t seem very busy. Very cute decoration all around the restaurant, dwarfs all around has a lot of character, prices are good too! Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because it took 1 hour for us to get our food ..... almost made me want to leave
Very good ramen place with a quirky theme. While I've only been once, the service was very quick and the venue had relaxed feel. I will be going again if I'm in the area. One thing they can improve upon with ease was the fact that the hardboiled egg in my ramen was notably colder than my broth. Make sure the temperature of the egg is the same as everything else!
Feels like a little vacation to Japan. Quality food that seems like the people responsible genuinely care about their trade. Would recommend. Look forward to listening to jazzy renditions of Totoro's theme.
So delicious food, kind staff but we were awaiting to be seated too much although it wasn't busy. Parking isn't available except the street one. Its french name kind of confusing with the Japanese food. Recommend it!
Tea time is the best time at Dwarf no Cachette ???????????????????????????????????????? Overall a very nice place, friendly staff, delicious Japanese cuisine awesome atmosphere. Definitely need to try this place ✌️
Great food, best donut I've ever had for dessert.
Very adorable atmosphere. Friendly staff. Delicious Japanese food, which outside of sushi can be hard to find in the city. Kawaii style desserts and drinks made to make you smile. You can tell the staff really cares. Wait time can be slower …
Only place I know in the city that serves Japanese curry. Helps when I'm missing that CoCo Curry. I think they should cut down on the menu items though as everything is good but not Great. Keep the curry and Takoyaki tho. Support this unique place.
Quaint place, in a great location. The food is delicious, and the milkshakes are phenomenal!! This restaurant has a store on the second level, and a point card system to accumulate points from each visit, eventually can redeem your points towards your bill ! (After 100pts).
Got and order thru Door Dash today and it was great food, but instead of my 2 shrimp Tempura onigiri, I got 2 orders of shrimp Tempura, which is really nice since it was 2 orders for the price of one, but I really did want my onigiri. Food was definitely delicious. Just not what I ordered.
The way every dish I have hits it out of the parkakes me wish it was closer to me, so it could be a local hangout instead of a special occasion meal. I look forward to every visit and I'm never disappointed. The matcha-chocolate cheesecake is unbelievable.
This is one of the few Japanese restaurants opened by a Japanese person in Winnipeg. Most are opened by people of other ethnicities. The flavor profile being actually Japanese (Korean Japanese food can taste different for example due to their sauces). I like coming for the shaved ice with ice cream. I prefer Taiwanese ice but this is the closest that I've found in Winnipeg. Their croquettes have more variety than most other places. I wish their milk shakes were cheaper though... I prefer the shaved ice personally. Please note, this is Japanese restaurant, but it does not serve sushi. Many of my friends like the ramen. It's one of the better placed in the city to get it. I usually order the sukiyaki udon hot pot. Be warned, it's a sweet soup stock similar to bulgogi sweet (that's a Korean dish) Don't forget to walk upstairs and check out the gift shop. It's nice to meander through to kill a few minutes while you're waiting for your food.
Food was good, Service was impeccable and its a really cute place for some authentic Japanese food.(The ramen's super good).I enjoyed my experience at this fine establishment... its pretty affordable too.❤
All of their dishes that we've ordered are good, especially the Cream Cheese Takoyaki. I would also say that they serve one of the best Okonomiyaki in town! 5/5 on aesthetics and taste, the only downside for me is the waiting time, it wasn't even busy when me and my partner went in fact there were only 3 tables were occupied...
An Japanese place with eclectic and kitschy decor. Ramen bowls are outstanding. Go hungry...Lol. Chicken katsu is really good, love the gyōza. Service is a bit slow, but the overall experience is usually very good.
They had good service and and good food, so I would definitely recommend it. They have a nice and relaxed atmosphere in there, and while it's a bit small (that is, not ideal for large parties), they have a surprisingly large menu. It's also not very expensive so it's good for dinner dates
What a cute little restaurant in the heart of St. Boniface area. The ambience of the restaurant is very light with many aesthetics that will definitely make you smile. The menu is colourful with fonts that is very reminiscent of animes. To start, we ordered the Roulette Takoyaki, which contained one takoyaki with spicy sauce inside. Love the idea! It would be great to try with friends. The 3D Art on my caramel macchiato was hard not to take a picture of before I took my first sip! There were many dessert options that were very tempting to order, but the portions of the ramen is so big that I was too full. There's so many choices from the menu that I had a hard time choosing what to order. Definitely will be coming back to try something else!
My food was alittle crispy, but overall really good. I will be %100 ordering again. Great portion sizes and Friendly staff.
I love the food at Dwarf. Portions are generous and the flavours fantastic. I highly recommend the okonomiyaki - I usually get the chicken and pork. The gyoza are also among the best I’ve had in Winnipeg.
A "Maid Cafe"! Excellent food, service a la Japanese Waitress Dress-up! We went on a Tuesday so an impromptu dance is a bonus! Superior Tempura, delicious ramen.
I've been here like 3 or 4 times and had different dishes each time. Not sure about the dwarf thing but the food is hella delicious. Any low-star reviews are probably just your typical Google-Review-Warrior-Winnipeg-cheapos. Have a great day everyone.
This is the best and most authentic Japanese food that you will find in the city, absolutely recommend. I've eaten at some of the best Japanese restaurants in Toronto and Vancouver and this place is my favorite. Also, for reasons unknown to me, they have the best milkshakes I have ever had - get the blueberry one. They take a while to make but omg you will drive across the city just for these things, I promise. I am a big anime fan, and anime artists have an uncanny ability at making the food look absolutely divine and mouth watering. Dwarf is the only place that I've found to live up to these expectations. Not to mention it's a very cute little spot! Cozy and welcoming. The owner is authentic and genuinely excited to share Japanese cuisine with Canadians. :)
Servers will always carefully explain the menu and make recommendations. I’ve tried almost all the ramen and curry, and I can’t pick a favourite because they’re all so good. I’ve even had the Death Miso Ramen. That one is not to be taken lightly.. I love spicy and I couldn’t handle it. Start easy and get a Miso Ramen or a Chicken Katsu Curry. Server Rhea is always so nice and makes great suggestions.
I've been coming here almost every weeks for 2 years and was never disappointed, real Japanese food by Japanese peoples, food is very good and well presented, friendly staff and owner (i miss the 2 young Japanese ladies working there the first year i came), the menu has new addition or special dishes quite often. My preferred restaurant in Winnipeg
Great food. Big servings. Unique menu. Easy pick up. One of my favorites
Love this place. Very good Japanese food and I love the dwarf theme. I used to date a dwarf but she dumped me Cos we never saw eye to eye.
I really enjoyed the food at Dwarf no cachette café. However, the ambiance is not quite for me. The music and decor is unique in it's own way. If good food is all you care about, the menu has tons of options. The had lost of non sushis options and I was stranger to a lot of them. The karaage ramen I had was very tasty.
The bento box offer is too delicious to give up, wish it was an all-day options. Yes, it's that good. Soup combined with chicken katsu is to die for.
I had been searching for a great ramen ramen noodle place close to work and this is it! Great staff, very knowledgable. Went with a large group for lunch, everyone enjoyed their meal. Importantly, here are vegetarian options. They have vegetation soup broth.
A large and varied Japanese menu. Ramen soup was tasty. Decor is odd but the place is clean. They have a somewhat neglected gift shop full of stationary and cell phone accessories from Japan.
Cute little spot, fun atmosphere, good food.
Great food and service and the waitresses also danced during dinner. The dancing was good but I thought it was unnecessary and made the customers uncomfortable.
Everyone was quite happy with their dishes. It isn't a fine dining place but the food was very flavorful. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes. Today I had Kimchi Ramen which I would gladly have again.
We were looking for something different which was exactly what we got. The place is an eclectic mix of furnishings and the waitress was very sweet. The food was interesting and good though we were not sure what we were ordering. Menus could use some explanations for those unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine, we googled many of the items and asked questions before making selections.
Staff was very friendly and the food was superb. Definitely get the onigiri. The katsu shrimp was also simply fantastic. You can't go wrong here.
After going to Japan, I was really excited to discover that Dwarf no Cachette has okonomiyaki! The ramen is also good, but the okonomiyaki is even better. They even have the option to order it Hiroshima-style. (I personally prefer that style and recommend trying it!)
Was an alright experience. Ordered the tantan ramen, takoyaki, okonomoyaki and croquette. The takoyaki was my favourite and very good. The rest were mediocre. I would say a good place to try something new in Winnipeg but is not up to par with restaurants in Vancouver/Toronto. Also the entrance doors do not self close and many people were flowing in and out without shutting the door that it got pretty cold inside. I wore my winter jacket the whole time during dinner.
I love the friendly staff and delicious food!
Cute Japanese Comfort foods run by a Japanese family. On Tuesdays they charge cover for their maid café, the waiters wear a maid uniform and preform song and dance. My favourite is the Okonomiyaki (Cabbage pancake) and I especially love when they sell Pan (bread) and baked goods in the morning. The curry bun is absolutely delicious.
Tried the kimchi udon, butter ramen and croquets. Overall everything was alright. The broth wasn't as savory as I'd like. The udon noodles were nice and thick and held the soup and flavour well. I appreciated the home made croquets, but they were just a little too big and didn't have that nice crispy crust to filling ratio. I'd defs go back though to try the curry katsu.
The service was great - waitresses were very friendly but the food was not very good . The environment is a bit squished (tables are too close together) and it was very noisy (voices were travelling) made it very uncomfortable. This was my second time returning and thought I’d try something else on the menu to give it another chance.. only to experience the same taste with their dishes. The curry tasted like powdery-pasty goop I couldn’t even finish the serving. It was like a whole curry cube was taken and thrown in for one serving and it was VERY salty. The ramen served was not even hot. It was also very salty. I’ve been to Japan and have eaten a lot of the different foods (ramen, okonomiyaki, donburi, japanese style curry, etc.) and none of the dishes made me feel like I needed a pitcher of water to drink after one bite.
By far the best place for Japanese cuisine! Other places I've had in the city don't come close! For small online order lunches at work, this is our go-to Japanese place. Portions are great and food tastes SO delicious!
Had heard good things so tried the ramen for lunch. So disappointing...it was not served hot but warm so some bites were lukewarm, even right after it was served. Pork belly was in rounds, very fatty, thick and hard to eat. Eggs were tasteless and did not seem fresh. Overall really disappointing. Would not go back. Service was fine though just sub par food. I could make better ramen at home...
I went here for LA poutine week and I must say it was the cutest one I ate and perhaps the most out there. I was delighted to see it and also to order the melon float. It's a great place to have cute Japanese food. My only complaint is that it can get really cold in the winter. Also, before you leave don't forget to check out the gift shop upstairs.
An incredibly interesting, cute, and quaint little place. Don't let the name mislead you, its very much a Japanese restaurant! From having lived in Japan, I've often missed certain dishes that most restaurants here simply don't serve. Dwarf has a variety of these dishes! Definitely worth checking out if you've never been!
Always amazing food and great service
Tasty food, nice place to hang out.
Atmosphere is Intriguing combination of eclectic chic and manga kitch thanks to gift shop upstairs. Ramen is amazing. Desserts are fun, creative and totally unique. You won't find another restaurant like this in the city.
Very tasty and fast service!
I don't have any complaints about this place. The staff are polite enough, for hippies. It is a really mellow and relaxing place that fashions Japanese music and cuisine. Personally, I find the atmosphere awesome. Very, very impressed. The food was good, but I won't say it's the best in the country or anything. It's a fun place to go and I know I will return! I hope my next experience is as good as this previous one, because I really did love this place. I recommend anybody who likes Japanese or Korean foods to try here, but you should have a taste for seafood or at the very least Asian-style cooking.
Actual Japanese food, not just a sushi bar.
Presentation of the food was good, and service was ok. We tried the porkkatsu curry and the chicken Katsu don which both of them were deep fried, I tasted the batter to be a little bit sour from both my plate and my friend’s plate. I told the server, the server took my plate to the kitchen and came back saying that the cook said there was nothing wrong with it, And told me I can choose to not eat it if I don’t like... I personally didn’t like that, as for me the batter has turned bad and that’s where the sour taste came from. After leaving the restaurant.. for some reason I had to visit the washroom as my tummy was not feeling well. The service could have been better but they did not apologize or offer me sth else, just said that everything was fine, my friends also tried my plate and everyone said they could taste the sour flavour. I would not recommend this place and would definitely not come again.
Stopped in Winnipeg for one quick night and picked Dwarf no Cachette for dinner because of the rave reviews. While the menu is overwhelming, it made me want to order literally everything. …
Best ramen I have had in the City. I would also highly recommend the loco moco dish, but everything is good. We have gone a number of times and have never been disappointed. Yummm!
Dinner
I had this tofu dish that they were able to make vegetarian, that I was very thankful for. It was delicious! There were so many options on the menu it was hard to choose. I look forward to coming back and trying one of their exciting looking desserts! The only thing that would have made it better is a menu that marks what’s vegetarian (or can be made vegetarian) ❤️
They have a huge variety of great authentic japanese dishes. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed and the service was friendly. I also placed a rather large delivery order before and they got everything perfect. They offered to make modifications to dishes to make them vegetarian as well. The gift shop upstairs is small but full of some adorable things.
A neat little joint in St.B. With a dizzying menu, there seem to be limitless amounts of delicious options to choose from. Unfortunately, the food did not taste as good as the pictures looked on their website...not bad, but my expectations for ramen are high. I was told their ramen was excellent, even better than Yugiro's lunch offering. Point breakdown: generous serving; the egg was over-cooked and not marinated long enough; broth was pretty tasty; not enough protein; garlic miso paste was good; noodles were okay. I had the red miso Kyoto butter ramen.
Exceptionally tasty croquettes at a reasonable price! I had the cheesy croquettes with a friend along with a milkshake and had a great time here! Service was pretty good and the waitress was very kind and accommodating.
Best Japanese food in town, definitely one of the best restaurants overall. Huge menu will be sure to keep you coming back for more.
Lots of love and detail poured into this place!
Amazing ramen and many other traditional Japanese dishes. Great atmosphere and waiting staff is very friendly. When we went in it was extremely busy, which is a clear indication that this is a great place to eat at. I definitely recommend this place to anyone!
Server was friendly, eclectic atmosphere, food was not bad.
Hard to find okonomiyaki in Winnipeg, was very excited to find it here! It was delicious and filling enough to last two meals.
Very cute restaurant! I had shrimp tempura, pork gyoza and a white chocolate mocha latte and enjoyed it very much. The tempura was okay, but I was very impressed with the pork gyoza - lots of meat and a very generous serving! My favourite was the latte, better than Starbucks!
I was there around 1pm. Not that many people , maybe after lunch time. Ordered ramen and some appetizers, love the takoyaki with that many favor to choose with cheap price. I didn't expect the Japanese pancake was 3 cups widths, spoons size tall. I love the serving too, coming up and introducing food after I social-media-ed. 1st timer , good deal with it
favourite place, food is always good
Nice and clean. Food is quick enough to leave the kitchen. Known for their tasty ramen but have a lot of variety to offer. Price is to be expected for the quality. Will recommend and definitely will come back.
My absolute favorite restaurant in the city. Wonderful cute atmosphere and the food is phenomenal upon every visit. My boyfriend and I had our first date here and it's been our favorite date night place ever since. You really cannot find better ramen in Winnipeg! Nothing beats dwarf! ????
Dine in
Visited this place when hubby and I craved for ramen one late night. The place is cozy - I liked it. The server is pretty nice, and handed over the menu immediately. They have tons of selections in their menu, and so we decided to order one of their spicy ramen, agedashi tofu, and vegetable yakisoba. The spicy ramen is good, packed with flavor but the noodles itself is soggy. The yakisoba is not what I was expecting a yakisoba to taste like. The curry-like flavor is a surprise, and in my opinion not a good surprise, and all the veggies in it all look the same in color and texture cause they’re overcooked and all mushy. I told the manager on duty - not to give me a new set or any compensation (which i never get any by the way), but just as a feedback. The manager did apologize though and said “you should have told us upon ordering what flavor you want and we can customize” and just proceed with the bill and even asked me if I want to take it home as the serving plate is still almost full - really? But this review is just my experience, we may have dropped on a wrong time.
Delicious food! Such a big menu with lots of variety. I wanted to eat everything but I knew my Karaage Ramen would fill me up. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Will definitely recommend to others! Can't wait to go back ????
They got legit Japanese food such as okonomiyaki, ramen, katsu, etc. Since I found this place I can't wait to come back! Last time I visted was only couple days ago. I visited right before dinner about 6ish and there was only 1 server but still 4 tables were full. Wish they had 2 servers cuz it took quite a while to place an order. Interior is cute. It's as same as other restaurants in Japan. Service was good and food was amazing! They also have lots of options for dessert. Dorayaki was soooo good :) Glad there is a real Japanese restaurant here. Oh and also please try their Dwarf miso ramen. It's lit.
Fabulous service~clean & warm atmosphere... amazing Japanese food !!
Went today for lunch and was first table so service was quick and often even as volume built. The starter was deep fried tempura vegetables which had a nice light crispy breading and they really don’t overdue it on the salt. I had the chicken karaag don which is a deep fried chicken rice bole with veg and sauce on top, it was fresh, the rice was perfect, what my friend ate was a deep fried chicken noodle bowl but the chicken was prepared differently than mine which makes the food great for sharing. Apparently the tea is great and the teapots are neat and work good. My coffee was fantastic. The music sounded like final fantasy music and was at the perfect volume. The big surprise is that I was expecting a French cuisine because of the name and were served with these enormous Japanese menus instead which worked out fine indeed.
Love the themed restaurant and the authenticity of the dishes taste. Hiroshima Okonomiyaki is my most loved dish from there. They are also really involved with the community which is always a plus.
Little gem of a place my partner and I found on walking through St.Boniface. Lots of character and after talking with a guest who was about to leave, who was talking about the ramen and yakisoba, we were sold to stay. We tried curry croquettes, shrimp tempura, chicken katsu and yakisoba. Taste wise everything was recommendable and the one server was busy yet took the time to answer questions we had about the menu. They had a break in the night before, yet the service didnt suffer. All round Great spot, great food, great service.
This place is great. Everything tastes so delicious. From the Pork Katsu Don bowl to the Cheesy Tsukemon style Ramen.
Been here multiple times scared to try other Ramen places because I don't think they will live up to Dwarf. A comfortable place, the miss matched tables and chairs give it it's querky feel. Sometimes there's a musician playing and singing. Oh the food... did I mention it is awesome! Debit credit only.
I absolutely love this place ❤️. Anytime I'm in Winnipeg, and I'll be there in a week!, I'll always come back here. The ramen is delicious, rice balls sooo good. It's just a cute little shop. Seriously try it out. 100% would recommend.
Food was great I had it to go and I'm sure it would of tasted even better had I had it inside the restaurant.
