I used to goto this place with my Dad 20+yrs ago. Always a favorite,went there last Monday and they've changed the burgers.....not for the better. Stingy on the Chilli,Chz,Oinions and pickles and the patties them self where dence and thick. Didn't enjoy it at all. Guess even the classics change with time. You want a good burger and fries goto Dairy Delight on St.Annes near Bishop,They'll take care of you !!

Wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend it due to cost for lack of quality, cash only and lack of consideration for cleanliness. Some notes: - standard "in a jar/plastic container" fruit (non fresh) - cash only - same people handling cash also handling your food - cashier may be distracted and give you incorrect change, there seemed to be a lot of nonchalance around handling money - halfhazardly tossing your cutlery onto the counter into a dirty rag, before plopping it into your food Seemed like a place that was very casual about a lot of things. Disappointed as I thought such a small place would take more care.

I hadn't been here in many years but stopped in recently. I was pleased to see that their Covid measures had an employee come out to your car to take and later deliver your order. Already I am impressed. I had a Fat Boy and my son a cheeseburger. Both were fantastic! I really think that they have perfected the hamburger. A real treat was the chili that they use. So many burger joints just cannot get this right. Again Dari-Wip has achieved perfection. Good job!

Definitely in my top 3 burgers and fries in Winnipeg. The garlic pickles on the burger is what really does it for me, the only issue with dairy whip is that it's a cash only restaurant. The fries are nice and thin and always fresh. Unlike most fast food joints. They are quick with orders and are always busy which is great.

If I could give a zero star review I would. Never was able to try the burger. Due to Covid restrictions you have to order from your car. We had ordered from our vehicle and waited 20 minutes . The man running the food outside was asking us what we were waiting for. He never confirmed our order and was very RUDE. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. Doing the Wpg Covid burger joint tour and so far dairy whip is best out of four places so far. Wife had their burger and I had double hot dog with chilli. Hot dog was great and will go back to try a single hot dog next time. The burger was real good too. Fries werent my style but gravy was really good too. Nice that the menu is online and you can pre-order and pay online too.

Food is pretty good. Customer service is atrocious. Always rude, for example, had a bunch of people come after us and order and they kept ignoring me. I had to try and get their attention multiple times. When they finally came over, they didn’t even ask what we wanted, just jotted it down and walked off. Anyways, bunch of people that came after us ate and left, and when we ask what’s up with our order, the guy gets mad and starts rudely telling us it’s coming and that he doesn’t care if everyone else came after us and ate. This is one example out of many. I like the food, but don’t want to be treated like trash and belittled to eat somewhere.

Been going to this place for 40 years. This is the meal that broke the camels back! Was there at 12:20 am after a social, ordered a fat boy fries and a chocolate shake! The fat boy was tasteless, the patty was raw in the middle and there was maybe a small tea spoon of chilli on it! Tomato was mush and one very small pickle! I don’t think you could make a worse burger! Isn’t that what your job is to do is make a good burger? How can you mess that up! It’s also feels like your inconveniencing them by placing an order for food, is it too freaking hard to come up to the counter and be polite and appreciate the business or are you just so fat and ignorant to appreciate your customers especially when they pay 20 bucks for a burger and fries in your so over washed out has been arrogant burger joint. Goodbye Dairy whip! I will never ever grace your doorstep again! Goodbye for good!

As someone born and raised in Winnipeg, we all have our burger place. It depended on what area of town you grew up in, what era in the past 40 years you were born in etc. This is the burger place that transcends all of those criteria. I grew up in the south of the Peg, hung out a bit in the west and north of Winnipeg, and often would walk through the Exchange. Dairi-wip is one of the last true homegrown burger places that won't sell out from providing amazing food. They are maybe a bit gruff, maybe a bit rundown, but they are truly a beautiful little place. The Fatboy burger and fries are magnificent. Thank God in COVID they have SkiptheDishes and made an online website because you used to HAVE to walk in and only pay cash, no ifs ands or buts (sometimes shirt optional). An A&W opened next door and I vowed to get something every time I passed by almost 10 years ago. I hope and pray we keep these guys in business for a long time! Please go here and enjoy the burger missing from your life.

Amazing burgers and best fries in Winnipeg. We eat at alot of burger joints and this is the only place where we can order fries and when we get home they are still crispy. The hours make it easy to go to, and they are open Canada day too (closed in winter). The fat burgers are my kids favourite it the whole city, also should be noted that all their burgers are made with chili. The chocolate dipped soft serve is also worth getting and is a decent size (I've never actually ordered a large cause the small is large enough)

Dairy-Wip is a good, old school, drive in serving classics - easily accessible on Marion (right before the Marion Hotel). Clean, fast - and you can see them through every step of the process. Their fries are great with a bit of seasoning salt and I can't really find fault with their burgers. Milkshakes are thick and in a variety of flavours. They ARE cash only - know that in advance to avoid disappointment/issues while ordering.

Poor attitude from staff, really dampened the overall experience. Staff seemed stand-offish and perturbed with our patronage. We took our food home, (Fatboy, DBL Fatboy, gravy with fries) and overall it was pretty good. The burgers were tasty and the fries were thin and slightly crisp. Gravy was your standard gravy but tasted good. Cost was 23$ for 2 burgers (big burgers) and a regular fries with gravy. So value wise I'd say it was just slightly on the pricey side. Overall despite the good food, the poor unwelcoming atmosphere will make me look elsewhere for a burger before I come here again.

As others have commented — a Winnipeg legend. When I visit from Vancouver, this is typically one of my first stops. Various members of my family have been going here for 40+ years, alongside Mrs. Mike’s et al. Winnipeg “Fat Boys” are one of the few things I miss about living here, and I’ve raved to many a Vancouverite about the burgers at places like this. My experience here this trip has been awful, though. First night, December 20, I tried to go at 11:45pm after landing, fifteen mins before close. I walked in and asked if they had done last call. The fellow at front-of-house didn’t even turn around to greet me and instead just said, “We’re done.” Literally didn’t say anything else. If there wasn’t a wall in between staff and customers, I’m pretty sure he would’ve ushered me out the door — if he’d cared enough to even turn around, that is. Second day, December 21, I took my partner from out of town here. She has a life-threatening peanut allergy. I went and asked a younger fellow behind the counter if they served nuts, or if they used peanut oil in the fryer, etc. His answer? “Oh, I wouldn’t take a chance eating here.” Even before pointing out that there was no discussion with the cooks, no ingredient-checking, nothing — there are literally a million better ways to approach the topic that will instil at least some confidence in your business. Oof. Third day, December 22, I went solo during the day. (Can you tell I really, really wanted to have a good experience here? Also, Mrs. Mike’s was closed.) Made an order for $15.50, paid $20 cash — and the fellow paused when taking my cash as though to wait for me to say, “Keep the change” as the person previous to me had done. I get it, it’s the Christmas season. So, I chose to give him my change and write this review in lieu of getting it back. I get it. You’ve been in business for 50 years. You’re a Winnipeg institution. You probably feel as though you don’t have to prove anything to anyone. But, it’s almost 2020 and based on the reviews here, people now expect something from you that you aren’t giving them. You could probably chalk some of these reviews up to the staff having a “bad day”, but, make no mistake... I’ve spent three days trying to have a half decent experience here! When I finally got my burger and chips ‘n’ chill, the food was good. It always is. But a bit of gratitude that people are still supporting your small business when they could just as easily pad the wallets of the A&W next door — who have nutritional information readily available and the option of debit/credit, not to mention the 15 and 16 year olds working there do a better job of acting like they like their work, too — would be great.

Fat Boys + Poutine = amazing. I'm a repeat customer and they stay consistent. I'm not a big fan of fat boys but I can always go for one here. The poutine with the shoe cut fries made me do a happy dance. Don't worry, all that gravy is a good thing. There are still crispy fries down there. Order directly on their website!!! We didn't have to wait long and they will bring it to your vehicle.

I came for the burger. Was a touch disappointed. Not because it was bad, but because i had high expectations and it was just a "good" burger. It had some onions and stuff mixed into the meat which was nice, but the texture was a firm well done beef. It was big and the fries made up for any disappointments of the burger.

Terrible experience. Strawberry milkshake tasted like pink flavoring. Fries looked like they started out promising, but were cold and soggy. We tried to phone in our order but they refused and said to order in person. Then we got there, got in line, they took everyone else's order in line and told us to wait in the car and they'd come take our order. While we waited, they took 2 other orders of people who arrived after us until we got out of the car and back in line. If the food had blown my socks off it would be one thing, but it was so bad on top of it. Maybe their regular staff is off with Covid-19.

Pulled up, ordered burger and fries with gravy. Fries were not even that warm and were greasy. Gravy was thin and tasted like something from a dollar store. When it came time to pay they only took cash which I don't carry. Absolutely no signage indicating that. Instead they told me to go pull out Money from an atm next door at a hotel. Which had a 2.50 fee :( When I went to drink the pop. I found no straw so I had to go back to get one. Then It wasn't even that cold. No ice in it. The syrupy taste of it wasn't pleasant. The burger was ok. Didnt find any napkins neither to help with the greasy fries Definitely not returning.

I figured he was on a break and one of the others would come to the counter and take my order. First time trying Dairi-Wip, really just wanted homemade fries and gravy...not gonna lie I was disappointed with the fries and the gravy tasted kind of weird, I think it was beef gravy? Not sure. But I was expecting thicker fries to hold up with the gravy. I got a double cheese burger, I should of added extra cheese as it needed it, I didn't get chili on it, not a fan of chili on the burger but I did ask for extra pickles which they added. Id come back again, it was decent.

Great milkshakes.....but far from the best burgers in town. Dense, flavorless patties that you can't wait to just finish already, topped with a rather bland chili. And despite how bland the patty and chili were, i couldn't even taste the tomato. I personally love a big heap of shredded lettuce on my burger, and there was next to none. Im just going to stop there. Milkshake though, are why get it 2 stars instead of 1. Despite the 6$ price tag, it was very tasty.

On our way home we found this place on Marion. Heard a lot of good things about the place. We were greeted by a server and was ok at first but fairly pushy afterwards. Didn’t really follow cleanliness as much as he handled cash and food simultaneously. There was a few cars out so he had to go back and forth a lot. And didn’t see him wash/sanitize in between cars or customers. However we ordered the chocolate sundae and ice cream cones and they are very tasty. Very creamy and good on a hot day. Which it was. I do understand that it can be busy but I think cleanliness goes a long way for us. Unless that changes unfortunately the extra star only goes to taste.

I placed an order online and thought I could pay in person by credit or debit but the old man with grey hair who was miserable said no. He was the rudest person that has ever served me and made me shake my head a few times by how unprofessional he was speaking to me. My wife called me back to the car about 5 minutes later and our food was brought to our car by Mr Grumpy and luckily I had cash to pay for my order. My burger was okay and seemed to contain a good amount of filler. The fries were nothing special and tasted like they were cooked in old oil. Chocolate milkshake I had was alright and nothing special. I definitely won't be back because of Mr Grumpy. The food was nothing special. I will stick to Five Guys.

My family has been going to Dairy Whip since 1960. Since when they had their building close to the sidewalk. I always ask for my order to be in the "box" you do have to pay cash, that is their policy. They have the best chips and hotdogs of any other fast food place. They are as good today as they were over 60 years ago and the reason is they are consistant. They don't have to advertise like these other fast food places because once you go there , you are a customer for life. That is if you want the best. There chips are to die for and the hotdogs with smoked weiners and a pickle and chili are also to die for. They are also efficient and fast and you don't have to repeat what you want 2 and 3 times and hope it is right.They are the best at what they do and no one can even come close to them.

After a year of trying burgers as a new years resolution, Dairi Wip was tied with one other place for the best burger. As previous reviews state, their fries are amazing. Its an ice cream shack, so naturally their milk shakes are amazing too. But their burger.. is something else. Its the epitome of a fat boy in Winnipeg. They don't try to wow you with anything fancy. Just a job well done. Especially using pickle spears. Makes all the difference. Great job guys keep up the good work!

Used to love this place. Food is still good. Prices have gone up. Parking isn't great. Still boggles the mind they don't have debit, there's been many times I've been driving by and would have stopped for a meal but didn't have cash on me. I wonder how much business they lose. The worst part about the establishment is the people working there. Not one smiles, they're all old guys who look like they hate their job/lives. It's depressing and gives off a very cold feeling.

First time trying Dairi Whip. Unfortunately it will be my last. Ordered on skipthedishes as i was at work ordering food for dinner. The special request asking to omit was ignored which mistakes happen i understand that. However fries came cold and stale again i understand skip can take time but 10 mins away they don't get that cold. But the fries had a taste of old fryer oil. As someone who worked as a cook for 3 years at a restaurant i could tell right away. Very disappointing. Was looking forward to it as someone who loves trying local spots and hidden gems. Unfortunately this was a big miss and disappointment for me

So I this is the first time I place a order with dairy whip. I called about 15 mins before I showed up and orders poutines and I told the guy I would be their in 10 mins. And he said okay, just so he can have the food ready, because I’m baby sitting I have a new born In the vehicle and also 2 small toddlers. So I show up in the restaurant and it wasn’t even cooked yet. I’m still standing around their and he seemed very rude an older man with greyish hair. When I told him I had little ones in the vehicle he said “oh well ur gonna have to wait or else we won’t serve you” And he rolled his eyes at me and ignored me the whole time while serving the other guest so I left. A waste of my time and gas. Glad to just live in Windsor park. never again will I go to dairy whip and I suggest u don’t either!!! He was a very racist guy.

I had a poutine and a burger. It was ok. The fries were thin, almost shoestring like, nice and crispy. The cheese was cheddar, under a blanket of dark gravy. I'd have the poutine again. The burger had a thin well seasoned Patty with a decent amount of onions and mustard. The bun was a large, sesame seed white flour type that seemed like it had too much yeast. All this set me back around $14. I probably wouldn't have this burger again. Don't ask for bacon. They don't have any.

One of the staff older man medium long grey hair will go from the cash register to handling food without washing his hands. When I called him on it he said the door was dirty so what does it matter. Plus he didn't have a hair net. He definitely needs a food handlers course or intervention from the health department. Normally the food is really good if the health department rules are followed

This place used to be the best... now it is hit and miss. Father time is undefeated and the old timers working the grill may have lost it. I was served a very cold burger that was inedible on the way home late at night. That never would have happened 15-30 years ago. A couple of visits later I was served what seemed like a raw wiener in my hot dog. Cold, like rubber. Again, I could not eat it. Again, this would not have happened in years past. People eat at places like this because they want the consistency that comes with business owners preparing the food. The fries are still world class, but I find myself driving by in fear of getting another cold burger or hot dog. Maybe I will have better luck going around lunch so I won't be fed left overs. Pretty Sad. I used to love this place.

For anyone in Winnipeg who hasn't been to Dairi-Wip let me say you're in for a treat. We can talk about the burger and it's handmade patty or the milkshakes that are sublime. Like any Canadian however, I am here to talk to you about the poutine. Mixed in a cheese blend and fries that are made to hold a crisp, slathered in generous gravy this is one of the best poutine hands down. In the winter dear Winnipegers when you are facing the hellish -40° winds and you order up this poutine, and dig in, you will struggle to remember a better one. This winter I am sure I will again.

Been there for over 50 years and still the best in Homemade Fries in Winnipeg....and there is nothing better than a DairyWhip burger....and their Ice cream products are not ice milk....real quality the same for over three generations....so try them out... The fries are shoe string style not regular large cut and still served up in the same recyclable tray! ... ***and ask for fries "in the car" and you will get Your order in a box and usually get a larger portion....Try the ice cold Peach drink.. or a banana split.... So give them a try and enjoy! .
