Great boutique cafe. Very cozy.
Best gluten free bakeshop in Winnipeg. They always have something fresh and new to try.
I like this place a lot, the staff are so friendly and it feels like a very busy place. I haven't tried the food though, just the coffee and a couple cookies
The burger week Brew Burger lured me in for the first time, and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! Can't wait to come back and try more menu items. Such a great selection for gluten-free. Btw the service was wonderful! You have such friendly staff. It really makes the experience so much better!
It's always a treat for me to find a place I don't have to worry about what I am ordering I have celiac and was excited to purchase some frozen items to take home and cupcakes my mother in-law and I could eat
Service is always great food is always good. Love knowing I can come to a restaurant and not have to worry about cross contamination and that everything on the menu is a choice ???????????? Fast forward two years the quite in the food and service has both gone down.it Itr eally isn't worth the price they charge. Do make sure that you know all that they are charging for as they have add coast and don't tell you about it unless you ask
Great food and very friendly staff! Would recommend.
So yummy and a great atmosphete
They make good gluten free stuff. I enjoyed the environment its a cute coffee date place.
Everything about gluten free and was very tasty.service very good.
I was only able to go here once while I was visiting Winnipeg, but I loved it!
AMAZING. Perfect place for people visiting Winnipeg that have Celiac Disease.
My kids don’t like their deserts but I really enjoy them.
Good service And fresh items none gluten nor dairy which is excellent
Onion rings are amazing
Amazing gluten free food
Great food and good customer service, will like to go again.
Cocoabeans is an amazing restaurant and one of my favourites in Winnipeg. The menu is entirely gluten-free and features many vegan and vegetarian options which is fantastic for those of us with dietary limits. The restaurant is clean and decorated nicely, with a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The seating is limited, however, and the restaurant is often busy. I absolutely LOVE their menu. I have tried the Sweet Potato Burger, Taco Salad, Quinoa Salad, Chickpea Salad, Yam Fries and their Kombucha on-tap. Everything has tasted incredible, fresh and flavourful. They also serve cafe drinks and have a variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads, and other meals. They sell some of their salad dressings, quinoa chili, homemade hummus, and other items in their refrigerated/frozen area. They also sell delicious baking and treats like homemade peanut butter cups, date bars, cupcakes, cookies, brownies and more. All of their baking that I have tried is so good! Many of their baking is vegan as well. The service has been hit and miss during my multiple visits. I have experienced staff who haven't had a very friendly or positive demeanour, while other times the staff have been polite, professional and positive. I hope this can improve for the future! I always love enjoying a meal at Cocoabeans and will continue to eat here often.
Best savory vegan selection in Winnipeg. Never been disappointed!
Nice gluten free bakery and restaurant. Lots of vegan and dairy free options available as well. Onion rings we're fantastic, but the very yummy looking cinnamon rolls were dry and inedible. The cookies were very nice.
Everything is Gluten-Free. SOME things are also dairy free, and they can accommodate a range of other food restrictions. Decent choice for vegan and vegetarian dinners as well. It's both a cafe and bakery, with soups and sandwiches available as well as desserts and breads (available for eat in or to take home). They have a good range of coffee and tea options (many of which can be made as an iced version which is delightful when it's been so hot out). Comfortable space and very friendly staff. Not all of the staff knew what the ingredients in the cupcakes were - which is problematic in a place that caters to food restrictions. :/ But a second staff person was able to answer my question.
The staff are friendly and take the time to make sure the food you are ordering meets all your dietary requirements. The food is delicious, too!
Good selection of dairy-free/vegan option food. Makes it easier to navigate food choices when managing food sensitivities.
One of my friends is vegeterian, another gluten free, and another dairy free, so food can be a struggle for us. It was amazing being able to eat at the same place for once! Food was really good and service was incredible!
Went there for poutine week. I used to frequent the one on tache. I had been to this Corydon location before as well. They had a solid poutine. Service was standard. It could be a bit friendlier (It depends on who you get, for the purposes of this review, I'm using the services rendered on that date). I like that this a gluten free restaurant that has options for my gluten free friends. I do always recommend them. Parking is Corydon parking. I did not notice any parking lots so much as you're parking on the streets.
I LOVE eating here and I'm constantly recommending it to our (Amanda Douglas Events) clients. Such great choice for gf, df and/or vegan. We'll keep going back!
Only place for 100% gluten free in winnipeg
The wife and I love this shop with the variety of gluten-free options you can choose from and you could never go wrong. Especially their gluten-free cakes are wonderful(as I am not a celiac person) I give this a thumbs up! I order from time to time here for my wife as she has strict dietary needs and coca beans has what we’re looking for. I only wish the shop wouldn’t close so early..
Awesome to have a place my celiac friends can have whatever they like. Good service and food.
Other than miss placed baking in the case it was fantastic. Food and service.
Try the lemon cake, it's delicious!
Ordered milestone cake. It was a perfection, everyone loved it! Slashed 2 stars off for below average customer service. Rented a stand, got refund 8 days after 3 followups (1 visit and 2 calls) in addition to the one when returning the stand! No feedback was given as to why it took so long.
Ordered the fish and chips which was amazing! However the chicken sandwich and chicken fingers were just okay unfortunately. Our waitress was also in a bad mood, and not very attentive or welcoming in general. Everytime she left our table there was an audible sigh and she barely spoke a word to us. Although the food wasn't bad, the environment and feeling of the store was terrible, my friends and I left in shock of how uncomfortable we all felt throughout our dinner. Will go back for the fish eventually I think (first time I've been able to eat it since going GF) but not anytime soon.
The coffee is fantastic, their yam fries are not sweet potato, so keep that in mind when ordering. They are not as sweet. Also battered, I think they use the same batter for their rings and fish as well. Their cookies taste... Healthy... So, for me Oatmeal chocolate chip was not a keeper...
Cute little coffee place on Corydon. Coffee was fresh.
Friendly staff, AMAZING cupcakes
Very nice place to go and relax. It's small, but feels cozy and warm. The fact they offer almond milk for lactose intolerant people is fantastic!
Great place! Food is good and EVERYTHING is gluten-free!!! They also have vegan options too. If you don't think gluten-free food tastes good you have never been to Cocoabeans! Get out of your false beliefs and bring your gluten-free friends so you can both dine on delicious food
Hands done one of thee best places for a gluten free person to check out in the peg! First time in, I went for a chai latte and a Manitoba Breakfast bun w/crispy tofu! Amazing!! ???????????????? I loved that absolutely everything in store was gf and the selection of sweet bakes they had! They also have a variety of options for the gf Vegetarian like myself as well as vegan, if that’s your preference. Their crispy tofu was spot on in the breakfast bun! I got a peanut butter chocolate cupcake to go , and having ate it within an hour of leaving the restaurant I was a bit disappointed to find the cupcake was a little dry, the flavour was spot on! Icing was great, but cupcake was dry. But pretty sure I need to do a wider sampling to give them a star deduction based on that one cupcake ????☺️???? ! I’ll be back cocoa beans! My only real wish is that you offer fresh gf bagels!! Oh what I would do for a good bagel these days! ????????♀️
Great food and great atmosphere! This is a nice little food café that is very quaint. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is gf, df or vegan/vegetarian.
Went here for dinner, warm cozy atmosphere, the staff were all very friendly, professional and polite. The food was fantastic especially the dessert, and there is certainly plenty to choose from, all gluten free of course.
Over priced!
Love their food. Music a little loud and it's cold in there
I came here with a friend for brunch. It's a very cute spot to eat in with some take out options to make at home as well. I had the chili with vegan cheese and gluten free baguette slices. I haven't tried many gluten free breads, and my expectations weren't high, but it was GOOD BREAD! The chili was very tasty and the coffee was nice as well. A few servers made sure we had everything we needed throughout the couple of hours we were there. I also got a slice of gluten free cake for someone I know with an intolerance and they said it was delicious.
Awesome place and great staff! I always get espresso and it always excellent. I have also tried their baked goods and have nothing but good things to say! Highly Recommended!
Excellent food with a great atmosphere. Will definitely be going again
10.17 for a tipsy cow was not worth it. The cake was pretty good tho
Worth it for the gluten free treat you’ve been missing in your life although they’re quite pricey. Cookies and muffins are really good. Went for cake today and it was terrible!! Favourless, (vanilla)tasted like raw dough, texture reminded me of play dough that was starting to dry out. Glad I only got a slice ($8) as it ended up in the garbage. I will still return for the other treats but will avoid the cake in the future
Great place for a coffee or lunch. Friendly staff & very welcoming atmosphere. Food was alright but a bit on the pricey side. Skip the Veg Sandwich though! Small & tasteless for $14 with a side of fries that were semi decent & non greasy. They don't come with a dip so tried Lemon Garlic Aioli...that too was not very flavorful & could only taste a hint of lemon & zero garlic, otherwise it was like eating whipped sour cream. The best thing about my takeout experience was the side of vegan chili at only $3 a pop...it was delicious & just the right size for a snack later on. I look forward to trying more on the menu next time. Highly recommend! The gluten free desserts looked yummy in the showcase! Maybe will give those Giant (vegan?) gluten free butter tarts a try on my next visit...????????
Went for a light dinner, checking the place out for a visiting relative with celiacs. On the whole it was pretty good. Had burgers and chicken fingers and their chocolate cake for dessert. The buns were very good, I have no problem with gluten but usually can tell the difference when I have gluten free foods. These buns were great. The breading on the chicken was delicious, crunchy and tasty. The cake was a bit heavy in texture, but still rich and chocolaty,. Saw a pizza on our way out and it looked pretty good too. On the whole, I found it a bit expensive since I don't need to avoid gluten, but for someone who needs to avoid it this is a great place. I would cheerfully go with someone who needs it and look forward to taking our visitors there.
Such a great space and the food is fantastic!
It was awesome to be able to go to a 100% gluten free place. No searching menus, asking questions, being nervous of contaminants, etc. Really relaxing! Great products as well. :)
Awesome gf food...very froendly and hrlpful
Delish g.f bread!
Food is ok, pricey for self service place, IMHO. Came for breakfast, ordered for $40. My son asked for his fish crackers. Waitress asked to don't eat them there as it's a gluten free place..... Just curious how fish crackers on the table can hurt or offend gluten free people (if they were around)? Or it was her way of saying "don't bring your food with you"?
Creative recipes! Everything is good here and not full of junk ingredients. Small shop but good atmosphere. Sourdough is amazing!
The ONLY all gluten free bakery in Winnipeg! (Unlike BC) They have lots of vegan and dairy free choices too like their gluten free chicken nuggets and fries to options for home like lasagna in their take home freezer. (**Just be careful as Winnipeg people are not friendly happy folks so park and walk with caution in this area especially with children**Not safe!) Seat yourself and remember to order at the counter for everything. (Kind of like the old closed Mondragon) This place is popular due to it being the only one existing so food does run out. Get there before late lunch.
The food is just okay. Definitely a nice place for people who have diet restrictions as it offers a pretty good selection.
Thanks for the fantastic gluten free lunch
Awesome ! I loved their desserts and ambience !
Love everything here, one if my favs
Amazing gluten free food, would highly recommend!
Clean, friendly staff, and nursing/child friendly ????
Had a celiac relative in town and took them here. Food was above average and service was good which normally nets a 3 star review, but when my relative's eyes brightened up when they realized they could eat anything on the menu it was a real special moment. If you're not requiring gluten free anything the price is high - but as the baking and cooking is again above average it doesn't feel like you're drastically overpaying. Very cosy environment and nestled nicely into Corydon, this is a good place to have in the city.
Great staff! Farm to table, creative menu with gluten-free, healthy theme. Excellent brunch with Choco chip pancakes and bananas, side of sausage. Also had the avocado toast with poached free run eggs. Nice Cap coffee.
Unfortunately, I'll have to give it a less than satisfactory review. Although they were able to accommodate vegan and flour restrictions, the amount of sugar in the cupcakes was extreme. Yes, everyone's palate is different but when I tried to have a discussion with the manager/owner, she really was not interested in offering me any form of credit or good business practice. $24 / 6 cupcakes is a lot and a little compensation for customer courtesy is always the way to go. I've been in the service industry for over 40 years and in my knowledge and practice, you always want to keep customers. I won't be back.
Popped in for coffee on the patio. Coffee is great.
Soo good! Can't believe I wasn't indulging in Cocoabeans GF delights earlier in life.
Awesome gluten free food
This place was such a treat! The chicken fingers were incredible and so was the burger. I'm looking forward to going again next time we pass through Winnipeg. Thank you for being completely celiac friendly!
Went here with a person who has celiac disease, it was very comforting for them not to have to worry about what they ordered!
Every thing I try here is better than the last. Their cauliflower wings are the best I’ve had, and for the meat eating folk, their chicken salad sandwich is insane. Never would I have thought that chicken and coconut would be such a dynamic duo, but it really is the best chicken salad I’ve tried. Their cupcakes are all delicious, but the lemon is the BEST! Which is funny cause I normally hate lemon flavoured things, but somehow they make this flavour so perfect that it blows the rest of them out of the water. They have a ton of to go options in the freezer and fridge so even if you can’t dine in during covid, you’re still able to get all the cocoabeans favourites.
Great gluten free baked goods and restaurant items. The staff have always been friendly and the service fast. Love the fish and sweet potato fries the most.
Good vegan food.
Best coffee I had in a long time. The deserts are really good as well. The date bar was a little too sweet for my taste but everything else I've tried has been nothing but amazing.
Lived it
Cocoabeans was just what we were looking for!! After a week in the Manitoba wilderness on a meditation retreat, my wife and I were looking for a healthy spot for brunch. After a quick google search we decided on this lovely little bake shop.. With an all-gluten-free menu, this place had a great selection of vegetarian and vegan options.. The staff was very friendly and the vibe was super welcoming.. Their vegan chili was perfectly spiced and absolutely delicious.. The Quinoa Salad was super fresh.. My wife ordered the Beats Me Veggie Sandwich, and although it was also fresh, she felt the flavor was a little bland.. We asked for a side of their balsamic vinaigrette which was the perfect addition and gave it just the right kick.. Their large selection of gluten-free baked goods were very impressive.. I can honestly say that EVERYTHING we tried was just delicious!! I only wish we had a bigger sweet tooth and could’ve tried them all!!
Gluten free/vegan deliciousness! Desserts are A+ and the bread is A++.
This is the BEST gluten free bakery and restaurant in Winnipeg!!!!!!
Very expensive
It's so great to have a gluten free place with delicious options. Everything I've had was delicious.
It was AWESOME as usual. ????????????????
Very good cinnamon buns
Great cafe and bakery, I would highly recommend it to anyone who is gluten free.
Excellent gluten free bakery! The lemon bars were to die for and they have excellent espresso! They have all sorts of fresh pastries (all labeled with dairy and egg contents so easy to pick allergy friendly options without having to ask a bunch of questions). They have a cafe menu as well as mini "store." You can purchase things like granola, gf flours, frozen pot pies and pasta dishes etc.
Sweet gluten free delights
Best gluten free in Winnipeg
Ordered a sugar free lemon cake for birthday, the cake looked good but internally it was too dry and had many undercooked areas. Not worth the $60
My family is very happy there is a place like this in the city. The gluten free bread is excellent!
The staff didn't seem interested in us being there, they were more interested in closing half an hour before the posted time. The coffee was cold too.
This place was amazing!! My partner is gluten free vegan and I’m vegan so it’s not always easy to find nice places to eat but this was fantastic, friendly helpful staff, quiet cozy atmosphere and out of this world food and lots of gluten free beer options which was a nice surprise. Highly recommended
Nice cozy friendly place. Great food.
Had a great experience here today:) I don’t eat meat, but do like real cheese - so the previous time I came here, I accidentally ordered the vegan cheese and was disappointed that it wasn’t real. However today, I ordered the tofu chicken fingers, and was really impressed! The flavouring and texture of the vegan chicken were excellent. The sauce they came with was really delicious, the fries were thick and soft, and the coleslaw was crunchy and flavourful and not too vinegary. Will definitely come back here! Also, service was excellent.
All gluten free all the time...and delicious, local sources where possible. Eggs, chickens, bacon are all local and sustainably raised (and delicious), coffee beans and perogies from small, independent suppliers. The best Morning Glory muffins and peanut butter cookies!
Love this little place friendly staff great eats with the stop I will be back to try all your delectables!
Honestly over priced for what you get.
Very impressed with the great customer service!!!
The staff seem very unhappy both times I've gone there
Coffee was good but $24 for a dozen small gingerbread cookies is just beyond ridiculous. How do you justify $24 for 12 small gingerbread cookies? My friend grabbed a bag not noticing a very small card with a very small price of $24 posted on a small basket on their counter. This is completely outrageous. I could see a small package of cookies costing as much as $10 at even the most affluent bakery in the city but $24? Give your head a shake! Like I said. Good coffee, not great, but the pricing was beyond stupid! 2 coffees, 1 chocolate chip cookie and a dozen small gingerbread cookies and the bill was over $36. Not to mention the fact that I lost a $20 bill there and when I asked a staff member about it she instantly said 'no' without even checking with any of the other staff. Don't waste your money. On purpose or by accident!
Good food and decent service.
Great breakfast, lunch, or bakery. Gluten free indulgence. Lovely staff.
Quaint
pricy but food was very good!
Delicious vegan baked goods available here!! I order from here for all of my cake needs... people I serve to often don't realize it's vegan and gluten-free because the cake is still so moist and holds together. I'm not gluten-intolerant but this is my go-to. And the icing is absolutely EVERYTHING. I could eat it straight from the mixing bowl if I could, but that'd be terribly unsanitary. Try the lemon cake flavour, it's my fave!
The staff is kind but the food was terrible.
Great food! Always happy to with what we get here.
Awesome food! Had the fish and chips, love the homemade style fries.
Best place for vegan and gluten free options! One of a kind in the city, the meals and baked goods are delicious.
A lot of tasty gluten free/dairy free/ vegan options. I struggle to find nice gluten free breads and i am glad i found this place
The staff and atmosphere was very friendly and it smelled amazing. We purchased some bread and cookies, the bread is fantastic. The cookies were a little dry, but still tasty. The only real issue for me is price, but I understand that specialty ingredients cost more.
Great food and staff!
Very very good food and people
Best Americano ever. Great atmosphere
Very yummy vegan cake! Tasted good and wasn't too sweet. Very chocolatey but great in moderation ????
Better then expected! Not a small baking operation at all!!! Well curated hot food, bakery, and ready to go meals
Loved our gluten free dinner here, extra bonus brought home a delicious pecan tart for myself, will definitely go back.
Filling, nutritious, and delicious (coconut chicken salad sandwich).
Awesome lemon cake
I placed my order the day before my pickup. The dessert platter was beautifully arranged and delicious!
Good but pricey, but if you have craving for something and you are lazy to bake that spot is for all with glute or diary sensitivity, their vegan pumpkin pie is really good. Also, bread not bad.
I ordered a cake for my wife's birthday specifically telling the person who answered the phone to write Happy Birthday and my wife's name. She confirmed the spelling and I picked up the cake on Saturday 11 July,2020. I was told when I arrived that nothing was written on the cake! This left me in a tight spot wondering what to do. Then I told the girl behind the counter I am not paying full price! She said I would have to call management on Tuesday 14 July. I did call and the management told me that I could get a 5 dollar discount. I found this insulting and said be prepared for the review. This is my review!!
We celebrated a birthday there today. Everything was great! Food was yummy, cake was delicious! and service was excellent! ????????????
Great place, delicious cookies and pastries.
Great cafe for gluten free food and regular food. Lots of options. Thier freezer stock with many of their bakings.
So gooood!!
I LOVE THIS PLACE! I must admit I've only eaten a few different dishes (because I am hooked on their chicken fingers and fries) but what I've had had been good. I wasn't crazy about their baked goods because they're a little on the dry side but the actual meals are very tasty. Their fries are like the one's my family used to make in our little deep fryer. HIGHLY addictive. Not to mention their dipping sauce for the chicken fingers. O. M. G. I'm salivating!
Nice little coffee shop/ bakery. They have a lot of fresh goodies to eat and make quite a few different teas.
This place has changed over the couple of years that I have been going to it. Not for the best. They make taste treats but it is very overpriced for the actual quality of the baking that you get. I know wedding cakes that were amateur quality at best that were covered in icing to make them appear even. That's just not professional. They also advise that they are friendly to people with allergies but use peanuts in many recipes. Not a good choice because they are alienating a fair amount of their potential clients and easy to replace. Finally, this bakery is consistently sold out of many products no matter when you come in. It seems to me that Coco Beanws is far less concerned with actually trying to be friendly to people with allergies than trying to cultivate a crowd of hipsters. Update: staff is helpful but they still have major issues stocking vegan products.
An absolute god send to us Winnipeggers with Celiac Disease! Staff is totally lovely and helpful, best gluten free buns ever, particularly the sourdough and when I reallllly miss comfort foods they always hit the spot! Keep it up! (Really wish you were on a delivery service, like sooooooooooo freakin’ much.)
Super placeto visit for vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores. Fresh made baking for take out along with some favorite soups and stocks for home consumption. Also just stop in for a coffee and browse. You will be sure to take something with ya!
AMAZING!!! As a person with Celiac's diease this place was a dream come true! To have some where to eat with friends without worrying about the ingredients, cross-contamination or the anxiety of asking for special treatment was a weight off of my shoulders. I am visiting from Nova Scotia and this bakeshop has made my visit an even greater experience. When I come back in the summer, Cocoabeans will definitely be one of the main destinations to see again. The staff was friendly, happy and so very helpful. What a warm atmosphere even in this freakin' C-O-L-D weather!! It's too bad I can only give you 5 stars. Congratulations to the owners and the staff; you are truly making a difference!! Thank you for the peace of mind.
Excellent food! Gluten free! Very extensive menu, a lot of choices for healthy dining. Reasonable prices. Comparable to other regular cafés. Cozy and inviting atmosphere. Very much enjoyed our time at Cocoabeans!
This is a great place to eat, especially if you have gluten intolerance and other dietary concerns. I just had the fish and chips (sweet potato), and squash soup. It was fantastic! The only other item I've had was the burger. It was very good. My teenager and two small children also like eating there. They slso have really good lemon squares and butter tarts. I especially like their Little Susie cookies. Its so nice to go out to eat without wondering if you are going to get glutened. They also offered dairy free coffees. And you can order to go.
Chicken fingers are yam fries were delicious!
Very friendly and helpful. Great selection.
The food is good! I eat here regularly because it is a close and easy gluten free option. I notice the portion sizes vary a fair bit from visit to visit. Prices are on the higher end. Staff are getting friendlier!
Best gluten free restaurant in the city. Their peanut butter oat bars are so addicting (and they're the reason I survived university! It's the only GF product that was in the U of W cafe two years ago)
My cousin and I went for our evening coffee. Had some great sweet treats! And they let us stay a bit past closing while they were cleaning up which was really nice of them. :) The kitchen was already closed when we arrived, which was strange, more than an hour before the restaurant closed. That should be posted somewhere if that's the norm, the restaurant closing sooner than the cafe.
On a recent visit to Winnipeg I did an online search for gluten free cafes in my area to catch up with friends. Cocoabeans was first on the list and most appropriate for my dietary requirements. The decor was very familiar as that seems to be the norm where I live in Australia. I had the choc oatmeal slice which I thought was going to be a small serve as it was on the flattish side. Turns out it was all I could do to finish it. It was so yummy I was not leaving any behind! All my friends liked their desserts as well. Some had the date square. I am also a decaf coffee drinker. They have only decaf espresso which is fine as I like to drink cappuccino. I LOVE my coffee and decent decaf is hard to come by. Cocoabeans decaf is superb! We had aimed to get back for a meal before I left town but unfortunately we did not. However, you can be assured that on my next visit to Winnipeg Cacoabeans will be my first dining choice for all meals out. A local member of our party said they will definite go back as well. If you are a health conscious eater of any sort I would recommend Cocoabeans. I don't go out to eat for the decor. I am there for the food. What we had was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I do expect cleanliness though. The bakery, toilets and eating area were spotless.
wonderful food, fresh, flavorful with quiet atmosphere
Met a friend for coffee at Cocoa Beans last week. It was my first visit there. I had a tea and a lemon slice that was delicious. The pastries in the display looked yummy. The place is bright and clean.
They have a good selection of vegan, gluten free and diary free foods and desserts. Their cupcakes are my favorite thing that they sell! They are a bit over priced, which is unfortunate as this one of the only dedicated gluten free bakeries! Their food is decent, but they definitely stronger in the desserts area. It's definitely more of a once in a while stop.
Beautiful place! Extremely friendly service and an amazing menu. food was so good - must try the pulled chicken salad. definitely something for everyone here - vegan, gluten free, or meat eater!!!
Not a lot of flavor or options. Staff seemed upset we got there an hour before closing.
By far the best gluten and dairy free baking I've ever had. So good you can't believe it.
Was really excited to pick up a GF lasagna here. It seemed very pricy - $25 for a lasagna that could feed two people. I have made lasagna myself with GF noodles and know what it costs. But I thought I'd splurge. The lasagna was not great. It's like there was no seasoning in it whatsoever. The noodles were soggy despite following baking instructions. I had to douse it in hot sauce and add salt to make it taste good. I told my celiac friend about it and she had the same experience with the same item. Maybe the recipe needs to be tweaked?
Dairy-free options... Finally!!! Also very delicious, a red velvet treat (cupcake) I can enjoy without repercussions. I purchased various gluten-free dainties for coffee with friends and the added benefit of no dairy for myself that everyone loved.
As much as I love their lunch options (those onion rings are to die for!). I’d like to see more sweet options on their brunch menu. One nice thing about a totally gluten free restaurant is being able to safely eat things you can’t at other restaurant. So maybe some waffles and fried chicken (I’ve never been able to try that before ????)? I know they are always striving to come up with new items and products (yay!!!) and the service is excellent. Everyone is cheery and kind. I do think they could work more on their bread and baked goods, they sometimes come across a bit dense. And I’d LOVE to see more donuts!!!! I miss donuts so much! Anyways, thanks for being a great restaurant!
Wonderful place but unfortunately for myself, limited bakery items. I can not have coconut products and they use coconut oil in alot of things. Highly recommend otherwise
Gluten free cheeseburgers, onion rings, perogies, fish and chips. It's heaven
It was my first time going to this lovely restaurant. My daughter and I had brunch, and it was delicious! The service was great! Love this restaurant so much! Highly recommend it!
Absolute perfection. I asked for a gluten/vegan graduation cake for my daughter and they delivered. I received exactly what I requested, both on quality and decoration. I dealt with Kailey and she was professional and polite. Will definitely go again. Beautiful little store too
The cake had the consistency of homemade plau-doh and the icing just tasted like coconut oil. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't cost $35 for such a small cake. Would not recommend.
My friend was recently diagnosed with celiac so it was wonderful for her to have a menu where she didn’t have to worry about feeling ill and could have 3 full courses ! It’s a bit limiting if your vegetarian and in need of protein so maybe don’t go really hungry !
I preordered a cake and cupcakes for my daughter’s birthday 3 weeks in advance which was confirmed no issues. However, my daughter’s cake was mistakenly given to another customer due to having the same name before we had a chance to pick it up that day. They offered to give cupcakes as substitution but customer’s preorders should not be given to other customers. I was left scrambling to get my daughter another cake at the last minute due to this mistake.
Our office ordered the chocolate brownie explosion torte and as a vegetarian of more years (ok decades!) than I care to admit this was the best cake I have ever consumed that is dairy free. My two coworkers who cannot consume gluten and dairy for medical reasons were scared when they ate this cake as it was just too good to be gluten and dairy free. I would recommend this to anyone - if you consume a limited diet or not. It was absolutely delicious!! It is the first time in nearly a decade here that there is no cake left after a birthday!
Love this place! Fantastic vegan food, I had the banana chocolate chip pancakes and they were amazing! Wonderful staff and all kinds of delicious baked goods! They make this earl grey icing that is unbelievably delicious!
I have been going here since it opened and love it. The food and desserts are phenomenal - especially for someone who has a gluten allergy and doesn’t always have a lot of choices. Today was a super disappointing day. Although I thoroughly enjoy their food and desserts, the customer service is never the same. Sometimes you get great customer service and sometimes is sucks. I’ve over looked the service that sucks because there’s not a lot of places that are completely gluten free. However, today, sadly I have decided to no longer goto Cocoa Bean. We walked in grabbed our menus, one of the employees was on the phone (where you place your orders) taking an order (they cater and you can do pick up) and didn’t acknowledge us at all. Another employee walked by and said she’d be right with us. My partner was waiting to have his order taken and she came back and served the person behind us. My partner said “are f&$*ing for real?”, and she responded with, “oh I thought she was helping you”, the employee who was in the phone before we walked in and while my partner stood there waiting to order-I usually decide what I want by the time he places his orders. We walked out. Im in shock. Sad. The younger generation need to be taught and shown what good customer services really looks like. Both were young. Like I said, I’ve had good to bad service here, but today was absolutely the worst. May 22,2019 COCOABEAN HAS WON MY LOVE BACK!! I have given it a try since COCOABEAN has responded to my review. They have made changes, and I have returned. Staff are helpful, kind and genuinely kind. THANK TOU COCOABEAN!! The food is yummy and I live my multiple options. PLEASE GOTO COCOABEAN!
Lots of delicious vegan options and great desserts. They made a vegan red velvet cake for my wedding and guests are still telling me about how good it was.
Always has amazing food and the greatest is it is gluten free, their chocolate cake is the best I have ever had, I could eat a slice every day lol.
Delicious food, great staff and environment. Would definately recommend to everyone!
Very good food!!! Especially the teriyaki Burger.
Despite being one of the few places that carry gluten-free products in the city, Cocoa beans has been a consistent disappointment, especially when it comes to orders. The first time we ordered from them was last summer, when we ordered a birthday cake to meet special dietary needs. When we went on the day to pick up the cake at the agreed upon time, they couldn't find the order and it turned out they "forgot" to make it. Except for refunding us, nothing else was done to try and remedy the situation. Can you imagine going to your 5 year old kid who cannot eat gluten or dairy and telling them they will not be having a cake for their birthday party?! Regardless of this terrible mix up, we gave Cocoa Beans a second chance and ordered some Christmas baking. It was pre-ordered through their website (set up for Covid) where we chose a pick up time from their pre-selected options for Christmas eve. When we went to pick up order at the time we had selected (and the store already confirmed), we discovered they had closed for the day. We are unsure if they realized their error of offering pick up times at a time when they would be closed, but no one bothered to call us to let us know! Aside from this terrible customer service, the products are pretty mediocre for what you pay for. It is often overly sweet and stale. I have had more than one cupcake that tastes old and with a distinct freezer burn aftertaste. One main product that is actually very good is the buckwheat sourdough bread, however it is very expensive and French Way nearby carries a much larger gluten free loaf for $7 that is very good and more affordable if you are not a celiac. Otherwise, I cannot blame people for continuing to support this business as there are few other options in the city, especially for celiacs. I can only hope that they get their customer service in order, though I doubt I will ever risk ordering a birthday cake from there again.
Had the burger and a gluten free blonde ale. Couldn't believe a healthier choice dinner could taste this good
Excellent vegan food. Whole family was happy with their meals. Bought several desserts to take home and try. Kudos and thumbs up!
Everything about this restaurant is good news for Winnipeg. Looking at the prices I thought it was expensive... but after we tasted the food and experienced the incredible service, we were totally like YESSSS!!! I'll be back here lots, and I'm so happy this place has an ethical menu filled with ethical options... See you soon!
Fish and chips all gluten free. De-lish.
super yummy!! The homemade french fries were awesome. I was too full to try the dessert, but all items in the showcase looked delicious. Only thing missing was ice for drinks. Wouldn't hesitate to return.
Delicious food. Good cookies.
Love the concept of the shop, wish it was more affordable and accessible. It's in a terrible location
Friends had told us about it... truthfully expectations were much higher. Service much to be desired. Likely won't be back.
This is hands down the best place for a vegan meal my wife and I have been to. The staff are knowledgeable, usually if we ask if something is vegan we get a “deer in the headlights” look. Not here. The guy at the register answered all of our questions with ease. Our food was amazing, good portion sizes, and fast service. If your in the area check this place out. Thumbs up to the staff at Cocoabeans
Terrible food
Very nice staff. Great little gluten free bakery
Great food. Very friendly. A little crowded.
Very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. It's really hard to find gluten/dairy free baked goods that don't taste like cardboard, and these folks really knock it out of the park. Easily the best gluten free food I've purchased in Winnipeg. A bit on the pricey side; two lunches (chicken fingers and a burger), one coffee, and two cookies cost almost $60.00, but you get what you pay for.
This was my first visit to Cocoabeans. I went with a friend who is Celiac, it was a pleasure to enjoy a meal with someone who can choose freely from a menu and enjoy the food without the worry of gluten. I had the pulled chicken salad. It was very good and quite tasty. All the items in the menu looked tempting, I had a difficult time making a decision!????
First time going to Cocoabeans - first time eating a gluten/dairy free birthday cake. Absolutely amazing! They also make other goodies, soups, breads, etc. Highly recommend checking them out.
Worst experience ever had in my life. I placed 3 slab eggless gluten free cake for my friends’ birthday 2 weeks earlier. I picked up the cake few hours before my friends’ birthday start. It tastes really bad as one of friend got stomach upset by eating the cake. Icing was so sugary and it feels like we were eating raw sugar. Placed multiple cakes throughout winnipeg but worst experience with Cockabeans bakery.
I was very disappointed with the Easter cake I bought here. The decorations were pretty but it was very dry and had no flavour at all. I think it was supposed to be chocolate but I’m not even sure. We had dinner with 8 people and nobody ate the cake for dessert. I’ve been to the restaurant several times and always enjoyed the food here but I don’t plan on purchasing any cakes or desserts in the future.
For some of the best gluten free baking and breads make a visit to Cocoabeans.
The following are amazing: gluten free (gf) onion rings, gf cauliflower "wings", jam-jams, oat&chocolate bars, burgers :-) ...everything is basically amazing.
Absolutely awesome, so many delicious options for Gluten and Dairy Free!
Friendly workers and good food. A cute little bake shop and cafe
Delicious vegan cakes
Awesome
Great food choices for Gluten free. Tasty desserts
Great gluten free food. Celiac friendly!
Menu offered some interesting choices. Soup of the day was chicken pineapple! Now that was a new one for me. Clear broth and lots of chicken with interesting flavours. The chick pea salad was extremely good. Loved the dressing. Lots of flavour. The beef and goat cheese burger was small, slightly dry but the flavours were good. The spicy mayo was just the kick it needed. Chai lattes and herbal teas were good as well.
Great vegan burger with onion rings. Service was friendly and efficient. Enjoyed being out for lunch and a wonderful visit again!
Great food for people with or with out allergies
Great selection of gluten free and vegan pastry. Gluten free zucchini pasta was delicious ????
*** It took 2 monrhs for the owner to reply to this, and s/he did not offer some sort of "retry my business" with a free credit of my paid bill, so I'm still not going back. The young rude servers with unsanitary habits, and raw dough lemon cake issues are in other reviews, so these are not new issues.*** This was my first time here. I ordered a pot of African Nectar tea and a slice of lemon cake. I had to pay for my order upfront at the till, and did not tip yet bc I wanted to taste things first and see what the service was like. I picked up my order from the counter and sat at a table. I had to wipe my table with a Wet One that I carried with me. The table was dirty. I accidentally dropped my fork on the floor, so I went up to the counter to ask for another one. Instead of handing it to me the young woman dropped it on the counter for me to pick up. There went a sanitary fork. I wiped it with another Wet One. I wonder if she did that bc I had not tipped yet. The lemon cake was like eating raw dough. ***The staff should tell customers it's a no-bake cake before consumption. One customer, in a past review, ordered a $40 raw lemon dough cake not being told it was not baked.*** The frosting was good, but the lemon curd was so-so. Real lemon juice curd usually tastes more lemony. The African Nectar tea was excellent. It cost $13.95 (including taxes) for a slice of raw dough lemon cake and a small pot or tea, a dirty table, an unsanitary fork, and a rude front counter server, which was not worth my try of this place at all. I'm glad I didn't tip upfront now. I also saw one of the servers eating something with her fingers to her mouth while standing behind the front counter and talking with her mouth full answering costumers and other employees. I was not impressed with the unsanitary etiquette of two employees. This is the first review I've ever written.
Was hoping for more..had the marble cake and found it overly salty and very dry. We managed to have two bites but could not/did not want to finish it.
The vanilla raspberry cake was surprisingly dry and the icing was incredibly thick, heavy and far too sweet (like eating a mouthful of sugar cubes with a raspberry). I’ve eaten many gluten free cakes before and techniques can be used to make them light and moist. Even a less dense, saccharine topping would have helped to balance the dryness of the cake. It was a really disappointing experience as we had driven across town on holiday just for the dessert. Based on the good reviews, maybe stick to the entrees and cookies.
Super friendly people great work staff
A bit over priced, but yummy
The fries were excellent but the vegan sweet potato bean burger was on the low end of veggie burgers I've had, including what I make at home. As soon as you take a bite the whole thing crumbles out of the bun and what remains just squishes into a flavorless paste. Adding some quinoa or soaked flaxseed as a binder (and some seasoning) would go a long way.
Great coffee/restaurant. I really like this place, good food and coffee, very nice environment. Sometimes, service could be better and I didn’t like some of the deserts I ate (maybe too sweet for my taste).
Poor service. Staff seemed to know nothing about there product.
Great gluten free snacks!!
Highly recommend for vegan or gluten free people or anyone wanting some amazing treats and food!
A terrific place to go for breakfast.
Never actually tried it. They close at 8pm. I arrived at 710pm and was told it was too late for the kitchen to serve me. I guess you don't need my business. I understand the staff may want to get home to watch the jets in the playoffs but that was a little excessive.
Great place. Always great food and they did our wedding cake. Wish it was closer or we would go more often.
AWESOME STORE, SAVED MY LIFE WITH OFFERING GLUTEN FREE ITEMS, I was diagnosed two years ago with celiac and wondered if I would ever enjoy food again and their delivery service is phenomenal considering the restrictions!
Had the salad with goat cheese. It was delish! A little crowded!
Food wasn't bad, just a little pricey for the amount you get.
Such good gluten free options. I can't get enough of their all day menu, dessert options, and even a freezer of food items to purchase to cook at home ♡
1st time: Staff was not to helpful when ordering Vegan options, seemed rude, no free coffee refills is the big one, no table touches either. 2nd time: Ordered ALL Vegan take out and it was all meat and wrong fries. Food is good though.
Picked up a platter of dainties for a party. No word of a lie, the favourite at the party was the date square. This isn't a slight against all the other delicious items on the platter(lemon square, peanut butter chocolate bar, mini pies..., all delicious), it's just that the date square was that good. If you're looking for gluten free or vegan baked goods, this is a great place to place an order from. The only con is their limited hours. Not even banks use bankers hours anymore!
First time going there was great. Many tasty options, and ordered lunch while I was there. Will definitely be back
The whole restaurant and bakery is gluten free ! There are many vegan options as well. Lots of fresh baked goods, or sit in and enjoy something from the kitchen. I had some breaded chicken strips and onion rings, if you are celiac you know that's not something you can get just anywhere. Staff was great as well. Will definitely be going back.
Great restaurant but please get better hours i swear they have the worst hours. Recently found out i have celiac disease and its been extremely hard emotionally and very depressing time that its extra hard to eat but everytime im able to get food theyre always closed its pretty much the worst hours if u have a day job.
Great coffee, good service
I second what the last reviewer said - best vegan place in Winnipeg right now. Unique and delicious options with actually amazing portion sizes! I only WISH they did skip the dishes because at my work on your birthday you get to choose the place that all staff order from. As the only vegan in the office I wanted to find a place that has both vegan and meat options and this place is exactly that. For every 'regular' dish there's a vegan option. Its super unique.
Delicious gluten free desserts and lunch options! A must try!
Love it awesome cake
Best alert conscious bakery diner in the city.
Yum yum yum! Vegan stuff is amazing!
An amazing lunch and the peace of mind of having a dedicated gluten free restaurant made my lunch that much tastier.
My partner and I had the banana pancakes, chai and vegan chocolate cake. The pancakes were average, the chai was okay and the vegan cake was tasteless with a hard texture.
Delicious burgers. And their onion rings are to die for. My only complaint was that their kale/spinach/pineapple smoothie was warm, which wasn't terribly appetizing. Would be better if there was some ice blended in it to make it colder. Otherwise, it was a great meal!
Great location and gorgeous decor. Totally appetizing and large variety of desserts and beverages. Will definitely come back!
Super yummy!!
Awesome place! I’ve recently gone gluten-free because of a sensitivity, and this place was like heaven. If I ever crave sweets or want a loaf of bread, this is where I’ll be going to get it. Yummy!!
Lovely atmosphere and yummy desserts and muffins... great Americanos as well!! Haven't yet tried other foods but looking forward to eating a meal there soon!
Vy gd. Lovely to eat some where that offers all gluten free meals do u have choice. Had fish & chips for 1st time in yes. Only trouble was I ate too much! Thanks for super lunch.
Espresso could be better. Baked items for vegans are well done but a little pricey.
Great!
Picked up treats for a team with Glutrn free and vegan staff and had something for everyone, even non vegan staff was amazed at the taste of the vegan treats, and bonus...they're local .
Lovely atmosphere, super yummy food!
we live far away so today was the day i finally got to try cocobeans. i love that i finally got cinnamon buns and mozza sticks but the only thing really dissapointing was i ordered my grilled cheese with only cheese, got all the way home to see it had everything on it, picked all of that out and barely any cheese, costing me $11 instead of $7 :( might just be because of the masks but was a bummer. hope youll still be here until next time
Celiac bakery and great coffee
Great vegan options
Very friendly staff, and very great food! I heard about this place from a friend and I am very happy its doing well!
Delicious gf food. I'm definitely going back to try more things.
The food is nourishing and I don't react to a wheat allergy. Fantastic place!
