Experience? What experience It had to be the worst service I have had in a long time. Meals brought out sporadically, incomplete, had to ask for cutlery, staff that did not know menu. Then the portion size was small over priced for what you get and poor quality. All this has become is a other taco del mar, where I have actually had a burrito which was more authentic then the so called Mexican food they claim to offer. And when I go to a restaurant I do not expect to have a server dressed with all her bra straps hanging out. It is supposed to be a family friendly restaurant. Since they moved from their west side location the food has gone down hill and on the cheap. Chips are not home made anymore just frozen tortilla cut into triangles and deep fried. I wish I had have known beforehand so I would not have wasted my money here. Update: After the owner posts a rude response such as she has, the only thing I will be doing is recommending for people to not patronize an establishment such as this. The owner has no class and is unable to take constructive criticism and use it to improve herself or her business. Such a shame that there are so many fake people out there now. It is shameful that the owner can only call people names when they receive a negative review. Not only myself but all others.

Had beef burrito, which was OK. Certainly the best in quesnel. Hot could be hotter. Wished I could taste more tastes in the burrito. Might be worth it (and cost effective?) to switch to pulled beef, like carnitas? Tbh ground beef as it was tasted a bit like generic 'taco season' packets. =( Can't comment on other dishes. Salsa was tasty and fresh. Tortilla chips are yum. Wish them the best of luck.

I was recommended that this restaurant would be a good experience, but unfortunately it wasn’t. The staff was very concerned about Covid procedures and got upset with us for seating at a table and trying to social distance from the other tables. The server was upset that we wanted takeout because the server needed to sanitize the table over again. They have a sign that says “Please seat yourself.” The server doesn’t have to work there if she doesn’t want to do her job. The owner and staff don’t wear masks or adhere to the 2 meter social distancing and complained that they had to sanitize the tables every time to us. We had to wait about 2 hours to get our food. They seemed to be short staffed but were very unprofessional and standoffish. Poor customer service for our first time at their restaurant.

Chicanos, a little hole in the wall in an even less likely city of Quesnel was a more than pleasant surprise. Authentic Oaxacan food (no Tex Mex) prepared by an Oaxacan woman whose mother helped her for 3 years to establish this restaurant. Simple fare, no nonsense service, good portions. Lucky Quesnel!

Chicanos is the best Mexican place you haven't heard of. The food is authentic, and delicious. The sauces are house made, and you can tell. (including the goats milk caramel, which is to die for). The serving sizes are fantastic, and the prices are good for the amount of food you get. The owner (who also makes all of the sauces, and serves) is extremely nice, and happy to give you her recommendations if you ask. The atmosphere is delightful. The restaurant is decorated as if you were in Mexico, and the background music is on point. Importantly, too, they are following COVID-19 protocols - only half capacity to allow for social distancing, masks worn in the restaurant, and prompt cleaning after a table leaves. All in all, a very enjoyable experience, and I do recommend checking this place out for lunch or dinner.

There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this place. The food is subpar at best. The service was HORRENDOUS. While sitting there, at least three other parties walked out due to being completely ignored. On top of that, there were no policies for COVID in place except a sign in sheet at the front door. As someone who also works in the service industry and understand the impact it's had on businesses, I fully intend on calling Worksafe BC to report. Don't make this a stop on your trip.

Best Mexican food in Quesnel! Nice atmosphere and friendly service. The owner is personally making sure that everything is okay. Delicious and fresh made food. Special offers between Tuesday and Thursday (we will be back for Taco Thursday). Just one block away from Highway and from Billy Barker Hotel. Good parking in front of the restaurant and at the parking lot across the street.

So happy to have come across this amazing restaurant. You can tell they care about the freshness and quality of their ingredients. I've tried several dishes now, including the Pozole. A Mexican corn soup that is incredible. My favorite though has to be the Enchiladas... oh boy! The shredded pork Enchiladas with any of the sauces is fantastic, I recommend the Tomatillo sauce.

Dear Chicanos, I wish I had a raving review for you, alas I do not... I tried to eat there this evening, but the service was terrible, nay infuriating. I walked in and asked a question about the food and was instructed to seat myself, so I did. The Server knew I was there. I waited 15 minutes and no one came to my table for a drink order or to even acknowledge me. A couple came in after me and the Server went to their table, brought them water, and took their order. I was extremely disappointed and left. I walked back to my hotel in the pouring rain cold and hungry to have a bowl of cereal for dinner. Sincerely, Wet and hungry :(

Best Mexican food in Quesnel by a long shot. Authentic flavours and everything is prepared fresh or sourced from trusted vendors. I may have gotten a small bit of chicken in my burrito that contained cartilage, but that's because it's homemade stewed chicken broken down and prepared fresh, so the odd unsavoury bit may make it through. The mild sauce is gentle, the medium is warm, and the hot comes with a warning from the owner. However, if you enjoy hot food it has spectacular flavour and doesn't linger so long as to make it uncomfortable. Service isn't slow, but it's not speedy either, depending on how busy things are at any particular moment. It's a great place to relax, enjoy the casual atmosphere and a good meal.

The food was fantastic it was spicy and I would say out of places I've eaten in Quesnel it is one of the best. When I ate there I got a lunch special of 2 dollar tacos and they were delicious although a bit light on the meat IMO. Would still recommend because I payed 8 dollars for 4 tacos and i couldn't finish them all, the flavours were all bang on as well. Definitely go there.

After waiting 15 minutes to be served we decide to just get food to go since it was taking so long. When we said this during ordering we were told “for future reference” to wait at the front instead of taking a seat if we wanted takeout. When the food came, 45 minutes after we ordered, the manager brought it instead of the waitress and told us we should have moved since the waitress told us to move, which she didn’t. The sign at the front of the restaurant says seat yourself. If they didn’t want people to sit them they should make it clear.

The first time I went here was years ago and I was unimpressed. I decided this week to give it another shot so I took my wife and we went. My verdict this time... Unimpressed again. And I have eaten at a lot of Mexican places all over Canada and the USA so I am no stranger to the cuisine. My wife and I both ordered the 2 Enchilada meal. First off the portion size was small, considering the price of $13.85. It wasn't good value in terms of what we got for what we paid. For the sauce we asked for mild, but it was definitely the spiciest mild I have ever had. Spicier than medium I've had at other Mexican restaurants. Enchiladas usually have a bit of a cheesiness to them and Chicano's menu describes them as having been stuffed with meat and cheese and sprinkled with Mozza. Truthfully though this was probably the most cheese-less enchilada I have ever have had. The overall taste of the Enchilada was unimpressive. The refried beans were also among the worst I've had, I personally don't care for them being only semi-mashed (but that is just my preference), but even besides that my wife and I both agreed they had a bland and actually somewhat bad flavor (I am thinking that it was a bit of a burnt taste), in fact my wife couldn't even eat the beans unless it was in a bite with the Enchilada. Mexican rice was pretty average. The only food that stood out as good was the little bowl of Cucumber, Tomato & Onion salad with house dressing - that was quite good. Also the fact that they close at 7pm is pretty shameful, a bunch of people don't even eat dinner until about 6:30pm, I can understand closing at 8pm but 7pm is very early to close a restaurant. The decor and Mexican music was nice. The food not so much. The food and the price combined make me unable to recommend this restaurant. My visit was disappointing. EDIT: And notice how the owner in their reply fails to address any of the points of my review (like how the Enchiladas were pretty cheese-less despite the menu mentioning cheese twice in it, or how about the burnt and nasty refried beans.)

Hand rolled fresh tortillas! This is a fantastic family run restaurant. I really like their tacos. If I can make one suggestion it would be to offer flour tortillas but that's probably not traditional. The service is fantastic.

It's great having a Mexican restaurant in town. It's a tex-mex style. The service is quite good and fast. The gucamole is bland, pureed and pre-made well ahead of time. Prices are fair. Would love to see a bit more variety on the menu and less lettuce in the tacos. Would eat here again. Bring in Al pastor!

I really enjoyed the chicken burrito I ordered, but unfortunately it took 1.75 hours for it to come out of the kitchen, without the nachos side. There were only 4 other tables taken and they claimed, "the kitchen is extremely backed up" which does not really match up with being busy (there was one large table of 10 guests, but they were just being served as we arrived). I will also add, it took 50 minutes for my margarita to show up. This is an unacceptable timeline for any restaurant.

Decided to finally try this place out having heard so much about it. Unfortunately I don't think I'll ever be going back. First letdown was the server who took our order messed it up, resulting in us getting overcharged for items we never asked for, and a burrito that was supposed to have no beans ending up getting them anyway. Only found out after we got home and opened the bag, didn't really fancy driving all the way back and waiting for them to re-make it. Second letdown was the fact that their prices are making promises that their food just isn't following up on. If you've ever been to Toronto and had Burrito Boyz, you'll know that for $8 you get an absolutely stuffed chicken burrito full of fresh veggies and sauces. At Chicanos for $14, almost twice the price, you get beans, rice, chicken, a tiny bit of lettuce, and that's it. Flavour wise, the few ingredients that are in there are pretty good, it's just a bit plain and feels like kind of a rip-off. Shame really, yet another potentially good restaurant making the mistake of penny-pinching themselves to death.

Having been to Mexico a couple times and lived in the Southern USA for a while, I have to say that the food at Chicanos is the best I've had outside of these places! It is authentic, home-made, and terrifically delicious. This is not just a gem in Quesnel, but a gem in BC! If you are looking for the real deal when it comes to Mexican cuisines, you'll find it here. (Fish tacos are amazing, and the chips are always stellar.)

I have eaten tacos in Canada, the US, Mexico, Japan and India. I have eaten tacos for breakfast, lunch and dinner during a trip to Las Vegas too. Tacos happen to be my favourite food. I really like the tacos at Chicanos. They were tasty, they tasted fresh and they tasted quite healthy. The meat DIDN'T look prepared in grease to keep it moist. I met the owner. She was quite a nice person. I'm glad she came to the table to see how my meal was. I will definitely go again when in Quesnel.

I'm continually surprised by the quality of food here in Quesnel - the flautas and chipotle I got as an appetizer was so good that when the server came to the table with my meal, I didn't recognize it as mine because I was distracted by the amazing flavour. The server was on point and I never noticed my glass of water being empty before she refilled it. Further, the owner personally came to the table to inquire as to how we enjoyed our meal. This is big city quality and I'm very pleased.

Original -Will not ever return. ABSOLUTELY ZERO covid policies except signing your name. Zero social distancing, no masks or sanitization. On the topic of food, a margarita was brought after 20 minutes of waiting with no lime, it was only ice and cheap tequila. The guacamole looked like it had zero avacado in it and tasty like black pepper. The food was adaquate at best. All in service was VERY slow, and 3 of our bills were overcharged. Two people paid for the exact same meal and beer back to back and the waitress charged one person $5 more. Shady.. Skip this place and keep going to PG for dinner, or turn back to 7-11 and buy a dozen taquitos.

The food is good,the takeout service is hit and miss but mostly miss with forgetting salsa or sour cream etc. But the food does taste great. The full size quesadilla is three or four tiny triangles and for the cost it's not worthwhile. everything else we tried had more than a decent size serving

Delicious, and the portions were HUGE I ordered the Chicken Chimichangas with beans and rice, I could only finish half. The staff was friendly, service impeccable, it was clean and delightful. I am not the only customer who feels this way. at tables all around me I hear people raving. "The margaritas are best they ever had" and "the wings are delicious and they def have to come back for them again." I will be back!

I just drank the best pina colada I have ever had, ate the most delicious authentic (been to mexico, can verify this!) mexican food, and recieved the most incredible service. I am SO HAPPY that we moved here. There is no life without tacos and food that tastes as magical as this. Please dont ever close. My new favorite restaurant! ❤

We were in Quesnel from out of town so we decided to try Chicanos for lunch. It came highly recommended, and I wish I could recommend it myself but we were barely acknowledged so pretty hard. We were not greeted when we walked in and nobody even came to even drop us a glass of water. After 25 min of being told they would “be right with us” we left to go somewhere we could actually eat lunch and be acknowledged. Horrible service.

Bruce JR's review is spot on! The restaurant itself feels authentic but the food is a huge letdown - and I am no stranger to Mexican food. The food was overall poor quality and tasted pretty poor. Especially for the price, this place isn't good value. Save those dollars and go elsewhere is my recommendation, there are some other great options in town.
