Popped in on a chilly day in December while waiting for the ferry back to Comox. Had an amazing breakfast/brunch at Magpie's. At first glance of the menu I thought the prices were a little high but the quality of the food, and the portions, were excellent. The atmosphere was cozy and charming. Will definitely go back and bring some friends next time I'm in PR!

We stopped in here for breakfast with our kids. They ordered the Mickey mouse pancakes which were so cute and humongous! Equivalent to 3 regular pancakes. Took up the entire huge plate my kids easily could have shared that (3,5). My husband and I got a pancake to share, side of eggs and side of bacon which was more than enough. Pic is of half the pancake! Cute place and good service. Downside is they don't have maple syrup.

Great service and food most of the time. The fish and tarter sauce were awful and the one time it was bad food the server handled it really bad I almost did not go back but the food is really good and great helpings the rest of the time. So if I take out that one time I give them an 4 out of 5.

It took too long for our food to come to our table. 15 min to get a sit and more than 40 min for food to come . That's way too long. When people come for breakfast, they are hungry and want smth quick. The food was ok, nothing too special, so I don't know why it took so long to make it . So if you aren't too hungry and are willing to wait, than it's a good place.

A very nice diner. They have high ceilings and an eclectic look which makes it clear this is a low key casual eatery. They can handle decent sized groups at multiple tables. The food portions are large though some dishes are clearly better than others. Service staff are fun and friendly. Bathrooms are ok. Parking is available from the street. Pricing is good, and they have high chairs for kids. The art on the walls is usually pretty cool.

Went there for lunch today with my wife, baby daughter, and elderly mom. The waitress with the short, light blonde hair asked the four of us to wait outside for a table. After five minutes of waiting, a couple showed up and walked in. The same waitress wiped down a table for four and immediately sat this couple at that table. The same waitress then wiped down two smaller tables, then wiped down another table for four and let us in. So this waitress left my baby daughter and my 90-year-old mother standing in the hot sun for ten minutes, sat down people who arrived five minutes after us, then finally sat us down. The two four-seat tables were vacant this whole time. I hope this waitress wasn't racially motivated, as my wife is of Asian descent and my daughter is half Asian, but she did treat us very badly and she shouldn't be in a job where she works around people. She should be fired.

Great service and food. Only open for breakfast and lunch. The environment is very friendly, welcoming and charming. The restaurants decor is cross between historic preservation and artistic repurposing. The entryway looks like an old general store but the interior has been converted into the restaurant seating area. It remains simple with a small coffee shop type appearance, walls feature local art(most of which is for sale) making for a comfortable, laid back experience. The food is excellent and would highly recommend The Eggs Benedict/ or any of the breakfastst.( But that's just my preference) sandwiches and burgers are very good too. Excellent milkshakes. Prices are midrange most items on the menu are $15-20. But have good sized portions. This is a very popular Spot and a local favorite and can get quite busy on weekends and during the summers. You can make reservations and is recommended if you have a large group/party. Also depending how busy they are there can be a wait for food as the kitchen is small. But would highly recommend for brunch if your not in a rush and want great little place for food.

Honest, down-home aesthetic with quality food. My chicken sandwich was excellent and my milkshake tasted like it was straight out of the 50’s. There was a surprisingly large number of vegan options, which my vegan friend was very happy about. The salad greens were fresh, the dressings were all house-made. I can’t say enough positive things about this place. Loved it!

Funky Atmos, cheery peeps, good food. ???? Would have given five stars if there was an espresso machine. I know... Personal preference, but it's frustrating chasing down a good coffee after a good meal.... Would be nice to get both in one place. Drip coffee just doesn't make sense in an honest food establishment i.m.o. But that's the only sticking point for me.... Even the washrooms were spotless which I find to be a rare occurrence lately. If I could give 4 1/2 stars on this app I would have. I will definitely be back... Maybe they'll let me bring my own Americano??? ????✌️

This place featured in the must visit site on a travel guide so I thought I would check it out. The place has a lot of character; Tastefully decorated (see pics)The service was friendly and prompt. I ordered a triple dekker club sandwich on Rye. The meat was juicy and fresh and so were the veggies. A generous addition of avocado added to the taste and flavor. The fries were somewhat bland. The potato bacon soup was delicious although a bit on the salty side. Overall it was a nice dining experience. I would certain go there again

I would love to say the food is great, but after well over an hour, we still have not been served our order. Staff seems friendly, it is definitely busy in here, but everyone has waited way too long to eat. I would not recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a quick meal on the run. I can assume the food is great based on how long the lines have been to get in as well as by the fact that people are more than willing to wait.

Their menu does not say "No substitutions" but when you ask for any little alteration it's clear that it is an inconvenience. A group of us used to go there once a week but kept running into this same situation so switched to a new spot. I went back recently because I hadn't been in awhile, and it's still a problem.

I am sort of embarrassed today because I brought business and family friends to this place for brunch/lunch yesterday. I did that because the food is generally very good and it is of course local. It was busy and we had to wait to be seated, but it didn't matter. However, once we were seated and then there for over an hour we questioned where our food was. We were told that our order had actually only gone in a half hour before because we didn't order "right away" (which made no sense as we talked for maybe 10 minutes and certainly did not take half an hour to order) and that we had to wait for two more tickets to be done ahead of us. We accepted that somehow a mistake had been made and didn't think too much about it, but eventually questioned the server again. At that point we were told about ticket times "proving" when our order had been made and how there were now apparently three orders ahead of ours. In the meantime we had noticed people coming in after us ordering, being served, and leaving. This continued for some time and we were just going to leave when our food showed up. The hash browns and eggs were cold and the chicken strips were more than little over done. And the original server had apparently foisted our troublesome selves onto another girl. In total we were there for over two hours for a few eggs and fried meat things. We all have worked in the service industry--we get that things go wrong. But this was a deal breaker for me. I am not bringing anymore guests here. I suppose that will seem okay to the owner but if this is the way a large table gets treated it will hurt this business.

What's not to love?? Food is fantastic..breakfast never disappoints! Owners and breakfast cooks rock!
