This is a small fusion restaurant with a variety of different influences. We tried the dumplings, lamb chops, and mapo tofu which all combined eastern and western cooking ingredients. I especially enjoyed the mapo tofu and recommend it to …

Jeremy Veldhoen

Great experience and service, and food and wine selection! Look forward to next time!

A simply wonderful spot for brunch. The mushrooms on toast were divine. Highly recommend.

We had our NYE dinner at Marans last night. OMG, it was so delicious. We also greatly appreciate how accommodating they were by providing vegan & vegetarians options for my husband and I. Thank-you!!!!

Greg Fenwick

Delicious! My husband and myself came here to celebrate our anniversary. We both agreed this was our best dinner experience EVER! We both enjoyed a beef dish that was absolutely fantastic! My starter (a squash soup) and dessert (an apple cheesecake) was equally as good. The atmosphere and service was amazing too. We'll be back :)

Helen S

Great food and friendly server. We tried the tasting menu and every dish was fantastic.

I can’t stop raving to everyone about how much my friends and I loved The Marans Dine Bar! It was so good we went two nights in row. If you appreciate ethnically inspired dishes, refined service, and an owner that supports local vendors I highly recommend you stop in here.

The Marans had a lovely layout and was a great place to meet a friend to catch up. It wasn't too loud, we had excellent privacy and the ambiance was lovely. Our host and server were both very friendly and helpful. You felt very welcome and cared for. The food was all delicious and offered some interesting combinations of flavours. Would definitely return.

Girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place for a late dinner after a nice long afternoon at Sandbanks and what a great find! Beautiful evening, we sat on the patio and had an excellent experience. Ordered the Sesame mushroom udon bowl and substituted the tofu for chicken. It was a nice change from a typical dish you find on restaurant menus and the flavour was fantastic. The other entree we ordered was the orange and fig chicken which was a bit on the sweeter side but spicy all at the same time and very tasty. There was only us two and a table of about 6 on the patio with one server taking care of us who seemed a bit overwhelmed as she was tending to tables inside the restaurant as well therefore service was on the slower side. Only other change I would recommend is making people aware that the menu posted on the outside of the restaurant is a lunch menu (not labeled) and dinner pricing is significantly more pricey at $21-26/plate compared to $15-16 for lunch entrees which drew us in. Maybe give people a lunch size or dinner portion to choose from? The lunch menu I found to have more appealing options but our server was accommodating to provide minor alternatives. You pay for what you get as they say and the quality was outstanding. Highly recommend!

I went with my wife for dinner. I ordered the tuna dish (can't remember the name as seared Ahi Tuna). The quantity of tuna was good and the season as well... it came with block of sticky rice with almost no seasoning and bok choi on top, and not much seasoning either. For desert I picked the carrot cake. It was more moist than expected (very good texture) but again too much cinnamon deviated my attention from the carrot flavor. Food felt somewhat underwhelming to me. Waitress was great and very helpful, even spent time explaining the options and makings us comfortable. They were the good part for me.

Amazing food & service! Had the tasting menu and it was well worth the price. I love that a lot of their ingredients are locally-sourced. The chef is clearly a master at different cooking techniques, presentation, and flavours. Our server was friendly and explained the dishes really well. Will be back again for sure!

Amazing dinner at The Marans, with delicious blends of flavours created with locally sourced ingredients. Truly outstanding tastes and presentations for each dishes we had. Everything was amazing and we took home a few sweet treats too! …

David Rempel

Based on having 2 appetisers and a drink; the tomato and cheese with bread; pork belly maki sushi roll; and the bounty county artisan drink. The tomato, cheese and bread was fresh and delicious. Most of their stuff is locally sourced which is great. The pork belly maki sushi roll was below par however. The rice was too wet, and there was very little pork belly, therefore most of the taste was a plain and crunchy veg and vinegar from the rice. The sauce was a gingery soy sauce, but very salty if you want more flavour with the sushi. So it was a salty and sour dish for me. Everything else was fine. Service was good. The food looks beautiful as you can see. But an expensive lunch after tipping.

Beau Scott

Great value tasting menu - 5 tasty courses for $70. Friendly, relaxed service and great setup in the front with the booths so you hardly notice the other diners!

Jubilee Forest Farm

Excellent food with local ingredients. Server was friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend this place but make sure to make a reservation in advance.

Mark Ell

Our excellent server, Jennifer, provided prompt, friendly service, answering all my questions and helping us make decisions on the great food. The tuna ceviche and beef carpaccio were delicious apps. Our mains, braised lamb and seared tuna were delicious as well. The lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and the tuna perfectly seared. When I asked about the Pinot poached pear, I was quickly and kindly accommodated with a smaller dessert serving than the menu offering, being full from the first two courses. Highly recommend The Marans for a great meal with fantastic service.

We have been to several restaurants in Picton so far but this place is by far the best place I've been to so far. The chef and food creations are superb. I counted seating for 20 or fewer so you can be sure to get very good service. The cook does an amazing job with herbs and spices . The restaurant enticed us into it when we walked past and got a whiff of the food being cooked in the kitchen. Well done Marans. We'll be back!

Roxane Mercier

I didn't have a reservation but I called them up to see if they could seat us. They told us to come over, managed to find a spot for us, and couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. We loved the ambience, super cute place and really cozy decor. Loved the family atmosphere. The food was amazing, the charcuterie board is unreal, the service was fantastic. Absolutely loved our dining experience here, can't wait to come back and highly recommended to all.

User Heis

The food was good but the waitress was really cold and looked annoyed every time we asked for something. The place is cute but dark. We were refused a place outside even though we had made a reservation 3 weeks in advance....

Adam Rupnik

Loved this place! Such refreshing and creative options, and the portions were very welcoming too. With several of our family having dairy and gluten allergies it was nice to find a place in Picton that can look after us and that values our business. We look forward to visiting again soon!

Laurence D. B.

Enjoyed the tasting menu along with a few drinks. Great ambiance and friendly staff.

Laura Gammell

Very tasty dishes and friendly staff. We ordered tofu and noodle dishes and they are suprisingly good even for us Chinese

Boogy Shoes

Absolutely spectacular local gem. Amazing warm ambiance and the meal was divine. We opted for the tasting menu which was five courses of perfectly seasoned, locally sourced truly inspired food. From the service to the spoons it was a true delight.

Julie P

Service was good until the end of our evening when a couple were seated behind us at the only duce and decided to have a video conference call at full volume. The wait staff did nothing. We had to take matters into our own hands and asked them to turn it down.

Erika D

Incredible. Super fresh high quality ingredients prepared in a way that brings out the best in them. Wonderful reference point in high quality cuisine.

Ryan Alexander

Fantastic food, value, and service! This is one of my favorite places in Picton. I have ordered from The Marans several times and have always been impressed with the quality and quantity of the food. I highly recommend it.

Graham Sanders

I came to Picton for an event and was recommended to eat at The Marans; the food and wine selection were outstanding, and the service was excellent. We had a nice chat with the chef. I will go back next time I'm in town. Fröhliches Fest!

absolutely outstanding lunch. you can tell after the first bite the chef must be the owner. best salad i ever had and the rest was equally fantastic. at first the place looked small, However that must be their key to success.

This was our first indoor restaurant meal in Ontario in 17 months because of the pandemic, and it was worth the wait. Chef Sykes has mastered kokumi, a rich balance of tastes that perfectly blends the flavours of the ingredients, so they all come through as a harmonious whole. Our server, Jennifer, was very knowledgeable and helped us pick the best wines to match the tasting menu. Will definitely be back! (The photo is my partner reacting to the caviar devilled eggs.)

J Johnston

Absolutely incredible food. Lovely family run business using locally sourced fresh produce. Could not recommend enough!!

Caitlin Kirouac

Very Disappointed, we travelled to ontario and were hoping to end our trip with a nice dinner. We had done our research and the website indicated that the restaurant didn’t take reservations and that it was on a first come first serve basis. Turned out the restaurant was FULLY booked for the evening and that even if we showed up there was practically no chance that we’d be able to get a table. At the very least you should operate the way you indicate on your website, it is misleading. If you say you don’t take reservations than don’t.

Phil Kidd

What a gem, the food was spectacular and service was stellar! A restaurant not to miss while in the County/Picton. Highly recommend

Johnpaul Antidormi

Had dinner here on Sept 30, 2021. Had high expectations based on the reviews. Service was prompt, professional, and polished. We informed our waiter of a timeline we were on and they adjusted …

Amazing food, staff & atmosphere! Highly recommend!

Tracy Baker

WOW - what an incredible restaurant! I had the 5 course tasting menu and it impressed from start to finish. A symphony of flavours and ingredients surprised & delighted! I can honestly say the best dining experience I’ve had in a very long time. If the restaurant wasn’t fully booked for the remainder of our stay in PEC, we’d be enjoying it again! Wonderful service and ambiance topped it off. A culinary treat to say the least!

Daryl Johnston

The Marans did something special for us - with the current COVID issues our Christmas party was ‘virtual’ this year - those in Toronto got food delivered from the same restaurant/caterer buy, for us, we had to find somewhere ales to provide food for us. The Marans ‘stepped up’ and did us a fantastic banquet to bring home. All excellent food, great presentation, and very comprehensive instructions to heat/re-heat. We couldn’t be happier or any more impressed!

A D

Everything that we ate at the Marans was exquisite. We had the ceviche, mushroom en croute and the lamb. The quality of the food is worth the price you pay. I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time to make sure you don’t miss out.

Dan Arsenault

Easily some of the best food in Picton. It's worth calling ahead to reserve seating if you're looking to dine in.

Joyce Wong

Very cute and small restaurant with top marks for presentation. The pork belly maki roll was very tasty and my shrimp roll with potato soup was delicious! I do feel there was good value with both these dishes compared to other price points in the area, and I really did enjoy the soup and the small touches (the lemon garnish on the side). My partner ordered the cha siu chicken and that’s where it disappointed. The portion was huge but the noodles were way too salty and it felt like your average Chinese food imitation noodles from a buffet. The chicken was also a tad dry and did not resemble cha siu. We may have higher expectations as we are Asian but we were not able to finish that dish. Had it not been for that dish, I would have given much higher rating! Overall would recommend the sandwiches and steer clear from the cha siu.

Absolutely faboulous! Lovely people making wonderful, clean, food. Had the Mezza plater, sushi roll chimichuri Crostini with a bottle of wine. Can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon. Check it out!

We had dinner at The Marans Dinebar during Spring 2019 Countylicious. The food was delicious, the flavour combinations were so delightful and the portion sizes were very generous. We tried the Moroccan sweet potato soup and the Peruvian chicken causa appetizers; both of them were excellent. For our main courses we had the perch and pickerel dish and the spiced beef and onion braise. I don't like too much spice in my food and so Guerin made a less spicy version of the spiced beef for me and it was perfect. For dessert we had the chocolate torte which was very chocolaty and fabulous. We specially came to The Marans as we had always loved the food that chef Guerin Sykes made when he worked at Waupoos and so we wanted to check out this new restaurant (The Marans) that Guerin owns. The restaurant has a very friendly and nice ambiance, it is small but there is enough room between the tables so that your conversation remains private and you don't feel crowded. The atmosphere is pleasant, the decor is fresh and modern and the staff and of course Guerin are delightful. The service was excellent, we were served our food promptly and yet we didn't feel rushed. We will certainly return. Many thanks and keep up the good work!

Fresh, delicious food right in the heart of Picton. Small restaurant that does not accommodate much seating, so reservations are recommended. Vegan options, such as an amazing gnocchi, are offered. The soup of the day was incredible. Would highly recommend.

Matt McKeogh

Delicious food and excellent service! Our favourite dining experience in PEC. Charcuterie board and Carnitas were fantastic.

Matthew Wocks

This place is wonderful! The food is amazing, unique and beautifully presented. The people are so nice and accommodating and prices are so cheap for what you are getting! Ambiance- unassuming place. Seems like a cosy diner from the outside. Can do casual or dressy casual Prices- VERY FAIR! Appetizers are around $10, mains around $20-25. Portion sizes are large! Food- very unique twist on food. We had the soup special- green pea and corn bisque. Interesting dish with a hint of spice. Chicken Causa- the citrus and turmeric mashed potatoes were delicious! Albacore tuna - perfectly cooked. The presentation is that of a Michelin restaurant Overall great place! Unassuming venue but delicious food.

Marcia Visser

Amazing food and really good prices. Staff was very friendly and i think i had one of the best soups ever.

Linnaeus Pemberton

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. All four is us loved our meal and the dessert. The service was also excellent

Ralph Kramden

Amazing experience! Had a fabulous dinner here last night. Everything was very fresh and delicious. We came with two kids and while there is no kids menu, they were able to accommodate and make the kids food. The staff were nice. The place is small though so I would book a reso to ensure a table. I would highly recommend coming here. We will be back!

Melissa M

Visited for the first time this evening with my girlfriend and we had nothing short of a spectacular meal. Everything was fresh and flavorful as well as accommodating to both of our vegetarian lifestyles. Would definitely reccomend this spot to anyone who is looking for genuine homestyle cooking versus the bland boring tastes of franchised style restaurants. We are considering making this a weekly thing for date night. Our waitress was phenomenal at her position and compliments to the chef!!!

J Huang

Very cute farm to table style restaurant. Everything is fresh and great. Service was friendly and efficient. Would recommend!!

Anita Barnes

Delicious food with fresh ingredients! I believe the menu does change from time to time. I appreciated the Asian inspired dishes; you can't go wrong with any of the menu options.

Every Saturday night we order from a local restaurant to try and help small businesses. Yesterday night we were in Picton seeing my Mom who has been in isolation for months. We decided to order the full prix fixe meal from Marans. This week it was a snitchzel dinner. We also order a litre of spinach soup. It was truly amazing - the couple was incredibly fresh tasting, the salad had so many fresh herbs that worked in perfect harmony. The potatoes and snitzel were tender and very good. I have yet to try the desert cookies but they look wonderful. Please support this new Restaurant in Picton located in the Old Vic beside Regent Theatre. It's one I am hoping will survive this awful scourge.

Tom Chudnovsky

One of the best restaurants in Ontario! Incredible staff and the fantastic gourmet food! During our last sit down lunch we watched the farmer delivering fresh produce through the front door! So fresh! Literally farm to table! Even their take out is top notch! Amazing value and quality! Simply the best!

Judy

Delicious, adorable lunch with quick and delightful service.

David L

Well, what can I say, really good food, great selection of local wines. The rest, slow service with cold waitress, colder ambiance.. A lot of potential despite the location.

J. T.

Great experience at the Marans. Great food with thought out flavour experiences. My only warning which I can’t really blame the restaurant for is that there was a lot of cilantro in most of what we ordered. Unfortunately I have that gene …

courtney mintz

Honestly...this was the find of the century! Unbelievable fresh farm to table food and very reasonablely priced. Beautiful food and beautiful service. Thank you for an amazing meal...Guerin and Jessica!!!
