Currently this firm gets a rating of 4.5 over 5 and the rating has been calculated on 127 reviews.
As you can read, the average score it has is nearly the highest, and it is based on a very high number of feddbacks, so we may say that the rating is quite credible. If people have bothered to value when they've done well with the business, it works.

This Coffee Shop belongs to the category of Cafe.
Cosy little place to have a nice coffee, a healthy lunch, and an interesting scone. There are tables for couples and small groups, along with a bar seating for singles. The rhubarb ginger jam is to die for and the fruit is extremely fresh. Staff is welcoming and helpful. Love it here every time.
Busy but fast service even for a sit down. The brunch is a bit over priced for the portion but the drinks are priced very fairly. The scone of the month dark chocolate raspberry cake warm and delicious :)
It's scones galore! A great variety of scones and jams. They have several savory options as well, and a great café drink menu. Of course, they have all the tea's you'll need for having a scone. Great for breakfast, lunch, or a nice snack. Chill atmosphere as well.
Delicious scones! Highly recommend the orange cranberry scones. The sconewiches are quite filling and well presented. Bonus points for the compostable coffee cups! The earl grey latte was lovely :)
Wanted to grab a coffee and a sandwich while finishing email. I asked what the wifi was, it was the address, not the name of the business. They warned me it was slow ... Slow?! I couldn't load the agreement page it was that slow. Business for a coffee shop in a government building can't be like this when bridge head is 40 feet away across the street with a great coffee selection and wifi that works.
I'm a fan. Lunch scones were like eating a sandwich on fresh flakey buttery dense bread. Poached salmon scone was very good. Vanilla dessert scone was equally as delicious. Wild blueberry jam was A+.
The SconeWitch didn't live up to it's reputation based on the glowing reviews on Google. The scones we received were quite hard and didn't seem fresh. I was hoping to be amazed by their offerings, but maybe I popped in not on their best day. They're staff were friendly and helpful and ambiance/decor was nice.
I would give them 5, so 4 is only because of very slow service. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast/brunch. You have to try scones, all of them are great. They do not serve fresh juice, only bottled.
Went to The SconeWitch on a Saturday morning around 9am with my partner. There was a wait for food but the lineup to order moved quite fast. I'm not a big fan of scones but I must say, they were so incredibly delicious!!! They were moist …
A must-see in downtown Ottawa. In addition to the amazing sweet and savory scones (and yes, they do have some gluten-free ones that are really tasty), they serve soups and sandwiches. One day I had a ham and cheese sandwich on the scone of my choice, accompanied by a cold watermelon soup. By far the best lunch I've had anywhere downtown.
Great place for lunch. The scones are delicious for eat in or take out. They have plenty of lunch options with scones (sconwitches) I recommend the ham and gruyere. Staff is helpful and pleasant, service is quick although it often gets busy - a symptom of being popular!
Always excellent food. Had the salmon and cucumber today and it was to die for!
Delicious, flaky scone. Had the blt on an herb and onion scone... it was amazing and I'd definitely eat it again. My 2.5 year old had a eggwitch and didn't want to leave until she ate the whole thing. My husband went a bit boring with mushrooms and egg brunch... it was good though.
Amazing scones arrived frozen to my door and baked up super easily. They even include some parchment paper and a little reusable bag! Will be ordering again as soon as I eat these ones, which probably won't be long.
These were some of the best scones I've ever had. We tried the salmon and the tuna sconewitches. The fish was fresh and the sconewitch was very refreshing. For a sweet scone; we tried the vanilla scone with the devonshire cream. This was perfect; not too sweet and it was rich and decadent. If you enjoy scones; you will love this place.
This place makes damn good scones, but I would definitely recommend going for breakfast. So damn good. We all had eggs of some sort, and they came with a scone, some nice jam to complement it, and a salad. Everything was good. On a nice day though, you'll likely face a lineup to get a table (well, we did).
Wish I could give 6 stars because these are by far the best scones I’ve ever had. Never been a fan of scones before they’re usually a bit dry but the SconeWitch ones are buttery and fluffy. Been back every weekend for the last month and the quality is consistently amazing. Lemon poppyseed is my go-to.
Niche place with good scones thats all there is to it really. If you like scones its a good option.
Best scones around town!! Dine in or take out, and the staff is always very helpful even when their little store is beyond super busy!! I am a HUGE scone lover and no others compare! If you're in the neighbourhood, you should definitely make time to stop for a fabulously delicious quick snack! I promise that you won't regret it!!! ???? ????
Really good scones freshly made in the morning, little bit over priced but it's ottawa so get used to it, clever name to is a bonus.
Scones are really good here, and they have good take out boxes. Personally I would always opt-in for cheddar scone with salmon in zucchini sauce. One thing I do not like, is that this place is advertised as women led on google. I think that shouldn’t matter to anyone and it feels like we are getting into politics way too much. This place is doing well because because of tasty food they make, I would like to stay it that way.
Good food but small potions. When you enter you somewhat do not if to take a seat or order. The staff seems to be busy in their own world and not necessarily ask you. Not a lot of seating space but cozy and well designed. Good option for …
Went here for an 8am bite before a walking tour of the city and it was perfect. The place smells amazing and the service is good. Scones were fresh and fluffy. Coffee was good and they had lactose free milk options on hand. A nice quiet place to start the day. They even have little jars of the preserves that you can buy and take with you. But definitely come here for the scones, they're amazing
Every time we visit Ottawa we come to this place. They have a great coffee, fresh backed goods and their scones are so delicious. Worth the waiting time in the morning.
Hand made scones full of flavour. Perfectly done lemon curd, the salads are always fresh and the soups are healthy and hearty. They do a good Mocha and decent cappuccino, nice selection of cold canned drinks. The staff is professional and always keep the line up moving.
If you love scones, this is the place for you. They have a good select of different flavours, both savory and sweet, and an excellent assortment of jams and spreads to go along with them. Get there early enough to try their brunch specials and you won't be disappointed.
Breakfast
The mealwitch is really good, as was the watermelon gazpacho I had. The staff is friendly but I felt they were distracted. Nevertheless it was a pleasant place to work for the afternoon, the coffee was ok, and the smell of baking scones is fantastic.
Creative and delicious selection of scone based dishes. Sweet and savory options available. Must try gem in Ottawa!
Really nice staff and delicious food. I had the tuna and tomato on the herb and onion scone – never have I ever had such a moist and perfectly flaky scone in my life. The sandwich itself was delicious, all the flavors worked well with each other. I also had the orange scone and I think I have a new favourite dessert. Amazing place, I highly recommend it.
Great place hidden in the back of a business building. You order at the cash, and then your food is brought over to your table. They have some interesting breakfast options, all with some scone involved. The lady who took my order was very kind and made a good recommendation, and the man who was clearing tables was also very kind. Will definitely be back here when I visit Ottawa!
One of the great places to be at for breakfast. Although from the menu it would sound like you ordering too much into ur plate but it is Not that filling. It will your belly for good amount of time coz of the scone which are really good. The best thing to taste is the Moss Jam. I loved strawberry and liked apricot!! Overall ambience is good too. Open kitchen with smaller desks/tall seats to eat up. I kinda liked the place right 5-10 minutes walk from the parliament!! Must visit this place if you are looking for good breakfast.
We drove from the hotel to have breakfast here since we read about it online. And it did not disappoint!! The scones and scone sandwiches (scone witches) were amazing! We went back at the end of the day to get more and take it back to the hotel, but unfortunately they were closed. I hope they open up locations in Toronto!
My favourite eatery in Ottawa! It’s a great place to come for breakfast/brunch/lunch and definitely make sure to take away some unbaked scones to keep in the freezer at home. I’m not ashamed to admit that I always stock waaay up on the pumpkin scones available in the fall. During Covid-19 they began a delivery service for some of their scones and jams which was an easy, contactless way to refill our freezer.
I super recommend The Sconewitch for breakfast in Ottawa! I ordered the herb & onion scone with homemade blackberry jam. It was perfectly baked and flaky. Each bite was like heaven in my mouth. Best scone in my life!
Environment, staff and food is great. Got the following scones: Oatmeal, vanilla-cream, orange-cranberry, wheat-free green onion & jalapeño, rhubarb (scone of the month). My favourites: orange-cranberry, oatmeal and wheat-free green onion & jalapeño
Great scones. A variety of flavors and selection of jams. Their breakfast plates with eggs, scone and coffee are a great way to start a winter's day.
Awesome lunch! Thank you Scone Witch! I had the Turkey and Stilton scone with a salad, excellent portions and the stilton did not overpower the rest of the sandwich. Very happy.
Great spot to grab brunch or breakfast when you are visiting Ottawa. Their scone sandwiches are delicious and well priced. There isn't much seating inside, so it isn't the best for large groups. Service is reasonable, but not speedy, so also not a good spot if you are in a rush.
Crazy, busy place with very slow service. Could be way more efficiently operated. The scones are nice and fluffy but the mains are small and the salad is just OK. Flavours are light and needs more depth.
Best breakfast food in Downtown Ottawa. However the seating space is not that comfortable, and it can get packed. Nevertheless, I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone, since the scones, homemade jams and homebrew tea are all incredible.
The scones here are the best in Ottawa. The ambiance is relaxed and informal. It can get busy on weekend mornings so consider takeout.
Love this cozy place. Tried their orange & cranberry scone, as well as mealwitch with salmon. The foods are absolutely delicious. The only problem we met is that the place has limited seats, and It is a busy place, so it might takes some time to find a table to sit down.
This place is phenomenal. I dont know where to start. The atmosphere is magnificent. My girlfriend has admittedly spent over 2 hours just being on her phone and having coffee. The music was Queen this morning ???????????? always appreciated during a meal. The staff are so friendly and curteous, i mean above and beyond great! The coffee and the latte's are amazing so good warms the tummy like cocoa by the fire. The eggs... i cant even with the eggs. For the love of everything that is holy and delicious . Most likely some of the best eggs i ever had. With the ham, ouuff! Knockout combo! I mean astoundingly delicious. I had 2 orders, no shame , easy! The fruit is ALWAYS so fresh and perfectly riped: pomegranate, pineapple, oranges, watermelon. All super delicious. Of course, lastly but not least the marvelous scones and jams. The greatest pair since peanut butter and jelly! Since ...(insert analogy here, hehe.) Love it , would always and froever recommend snd attend. Thank you eveybody!
Best scones I have ever had. I highly recommend their bunch combo. And try both the savory and sweet scone
I'm from Edmonton and was introduce to this very unique deli/eatery today. I had the cranberry scone with the cream cheese cucumber with cranberry chutney. Great tasting sandwich. Perfect size for an afternoon treat. Now I'm thinking about going back tomorrow before I return home. Friendly staff as well. Highly recommend this eatery.
We visited the place with my friend around 5 pm in the middle of the week. It was looking so cozy and inviting, so we both took a risk to try. We ordered "Herb and Onion" and scone eith with Ham & cheese. We were given the order number and offered to pick up a table. We were served very fast and like the taste of the scones. During our stay the server came twice to remove the dishes, for sure we will be back. The Sconewitch has met our expectations.
The scones are delicious- but the menu is reduced to a point where it barely makes sense.
I've been there some times, but never had good experience of customer service. I thought the previous experience was the once when they were busy, but always bad. It is taking more than 30 mins for the breakfast menu, and the server told me it is "normal" for any brunch restaurant. She didn't say any sorry for us. The workers were dancing and laughing each other at the same time. I think they have a good taste scone. But it cannot feel well with the bad service. I might visit there for grabbing scones, but will never go again for brunch. They ruined my friend's and family's Ottawa experience. 8months later, I visited again, same. Even more unpleasent. I was super mad at them at this time. I ordered same food as my friends at the same time, I got the food like 10 mins later than them. I don't know it is racism or just super bad service. I was waiting alone in front or kitchen then the guy who was cleaning dishes was super rude too. He pushed me, then said excuse me to me like it is my fault to wait there. Super rude. The eggwitch cannot be 7.99$ because it is so poor.
Went there in the afternoon for a cheddar scone. It was not bad but was spicy. Would have tried smth else if I knew it would be spicy. But strawberry jam was wonderful! Will try a different scone flavor next time
I had the weekday brunch (scone &jam, fresh fruit, eggs topped with ham). I wanted to try the scone but I didn't want to commit to a full box before trying. Also, I needed breakfast so this was a good choice. I wish they had an option that allows you to try all the scones and jam in a mini format. I feel like the regular size would be too much since there are 6 choices of scones. The scone was good and fresh. The staff is friendly and quick.
Fantastic scones. Really enjoy trying the flavours of the month. Excellent menu with high quality offerings. However, limited seating, spotty customer service and a tad pricey for the serving size.
The scone here is sooo nice. We ordered sconewitch with salmon and mealwitch with mushroom rago. Both are really delicious! But you might have to wail in a long line if you come here in weekend.
While I have had their scones before, I was still surprised just how good their sandwiches are. I had a BLT pesto with an herb and onion scone and absolutely loved it. So much so that I wanted to get a second. We also got a hibiscus iced tea that was good, but unfortunately it was not mixed well with the sweetener and all the syrup was at the bottom. I would suggest shaking it up thoroughly if you get one. Nevertheless, still highly recommended.
My favourite breakfast in Ottawa. There are always lines and for a good reason : it’s delicious. They did increase their prices recently but I’ll assume it’s to maintain their excellent quality standards. The brunch plate is a little overpriced but the eggwitch is an excellent alternative. Strongly recommend trying their scones if you haven’t yet. Best scones in the area.
Incredible BLT with pesto sconewich! My boyfriend has the egg, ham and cheese in a scone which was also delicious. I’ll definitely come back to try more of these delicious sandwiches.
So if I am being really honest, overall the food was okay, it may have even been good, but they way we were treated and the level of customer service we received really took away from us enjoying the meal. 8 of us visited this weekend, 4 kids, 4 adults, as soon we entered the store, we could tell from their obvious expressions that they were not happy to see a huge party (which I don't understand, as it is a self serve restaurant basically once you place the order). We self arranged the 8 chairs (which is expected as it is not a formal restaurant), but then the lady behind the counter yelled out loud and not politely at all, that we were blocking the washroom. So we moved the tables, after which we proceeded to place our order, the total for all of us came over $100, so we spent good money brunching at this place. Once we recieved the meals, one thing was left out, so we asked one of the servers behind the counter that if the smoked salmon was still coming, to which he didn't respond at first and then after we asked for the second time, replied as if he was irritated. I definitely won't be returning again, we were excited to try it out at first as my friend that we came along, really enjoyed her meal there the last time she visited Ottawa over the summer. It's unfortunate how much lack of customer service can really ruin your experience and take away from enjoying the food.
Quiet place, you barely even know it's there. Service is good. Tried a savoury scone and it was yummy. It's a cool place to have a coffee and a scone and relax for a wee bit downtown. Saw a sambo pass by and it looked great so if you want a quote bite for lunch it's a great spot!
Slow service. Expensive and mediocre. I don't see the hype at all. Also my scone was tiny! Disappointed
Delicious, fresh scones. Worth a stop for quick breakfast. Enjoyed the salmon sandwich. Still closed for dine in, but there are a few tables outside.
Got the brunch to go. Was a pitiful little box. Small portions of eggs and fruit, skimpy piece of ham, and the jam was missing entirely. …
Great breakfast/brunch place. Their scones and sandwiches are amazing.Very modern restaurant, you can buy jams, scones , coffee here. Place is kept very clean. Scones are also very fresh a must try for any scone lovers. Price is fair. Would come back again.
A very nice place to have real scones with your selection of jams! Or to get your sconewitch
Cute place with great food. Definitely gives you a nice cozy vibe without feeling like you are on top of the person next to you.
Really good, kinda small portion, but still filling if you aren't too hungry
Omg, best. Scones. Ever. I can't get enough of these. Had the "ham and gruyere on cheddar" sandwich, which was amazing. Promptly returned later and picked up a few scones to go: lemon poppyseed, herb and onion, and feta (note that the feta uses dill). Everything was fabulous! Then what happened? I sent my husband back for more, of course! They offer frozen scones, you just throw them in the oven for 27 mins at 360 and bam! Perfect, fresh cheddar scones. Will definitely be returning, and this time, I'm clearing out some freezer space.
We had the Ham & Gruyere Sconewitch, it doesn't look big but it is very filling! Delicious, good price.
The sconewitch is a great little cafe near Elgin in the beautiful city of Ottawa. I've only been once but I would definitely go again. They have numerous types of both sweet and savoury scones that are freshly made in house. You can eat them there for breakfast or you can take them to go! They also make different types of jams, jellies and marmalade to accompany the scones!
Great place for coffee and a treat. Nice light breakfast on the weekends, but a little crowded if you want a table. I usually settle for the bar seating. Excellent coffee, scones and jams. I'm particularly fond of their rhubarb-ginger jam. Staff is friendly and efficient. Always clean and well managed.
Amazing scones. The jam was also excellent. A bit hard to turn it into a meal, but they pull it off. The scones are relatively inexpensive when bought individually (more expensive in a meal) especially for how great they are.
The food is always great, and there is no better topping for a scone than house-made lemon curd. If you're going for brunch, get there early! The place is packed by 9, and tables are at a premium.
Delish breakfast.. . Scones are amazing! Homemade Lemon Curd...
Such a great little gem in the market. All of their scones are just delicious. They have sweet scones which they serve with jam and butter, or savoury scones that they serve as sandwiches with sides (soups, salads). Great place to come for breakfast/lunch, and you can also buy the scones not-baked to make them at home!
Scones were amazing! Breakfast scones are perfect with eggs and a savory scone. They don't look like you typical scones but have yet to have one we didn't like
The scones are so delicious. I tried the orange cranberry and the lemon poppy scones.
The savoury scones are divine. Abit pricey though, but it’s a nice place to hang out in the afternoons with tea. Or grab a book at the neighbouring bookstore and enjoy your scone. Also the ginger rhubarb jam is great, if you’re into those flavours
Tried one of their brunch with smoked salmon; cheddar scone was great & came even better with rhubarb jam.
Clean, bright, friendly cafe with kick butt scones. They might not always have everything offered on their menu (no ice for cold drinks, and no vanilla scone for bumble berry shortcake when I visited), but they have so many other options that are delicious (cappuccino was so great!!) that you just think you have a reason to come back next time. Really enjoyed the food here! Definitely will come back the next time I’m in town
Have you ever eat a scone in your life and feel like you can broke one of you teeth on it ? This it's absolutely not what you will find here!!!!! This place people of the world, is the Holy Grail (or other object of your choice) of scones! You will cry of joy when you will taste there flufy and delicate scone. The only wish I have, it's for the restaurant to be bigger so we can have more room to seat.
So delicious! We got the fetta tomatoes sandwiches as well as the Lemmon poppyseed scones. Definitely a must try!
fresh delicious scones with local jam and fresh Devon cream? this was heaven. a must visit.
Portions are slightly on the smaller size for what you pay, but the food is high quality. I was never into scones until I tried the SconeWitch, which is why I was hesitant to go there, but I'm glad I finally did. Their jams are the best jams I've ever tried in a restaurant, by far. Now it's one of my favourite places downtown for a weekend brunch. Their Herb & onion scone is my go-to, goes great on the BLT with pesto. Only issue is that it's often quite packed and seating is sometimes hard to find.
Whenever I visit Ottawa, this is already definitely on the list of places I visit. Love their scones and the Moss Berry Farm jams they carry give it that extra touch!
Amazing sandwiches for a very reasonable price. Excellent decor and staff were pleasant. After the first bite I knew I would become a regular here. Highly recommend trying this place out.
Excellent counter service restaraunt selling variations of Scones. We sampled Plain, Orange & Cranberry and Peach Ctumble. Also sells hot drinks with decent coffee and hot chocolate. Brunch breakfasts also available. Takeout took in individual or boxes of 6 or 12. Good disabled access, no menu, items are listed above the serving counter. Helpful staff so just ask
We ordered the brunch. The fruit were sweet, the jam delicious and the scone and eggs were very good. For what you get out is a bit on the expensive side, but one has to factor the fact that getting fresh strawberries and pineapple when it is snowing outside it is a bit of a luxury.
Some of the sconecombos they have are really nice (like the mushrooms!) Other are just plain silly... This also goes for the scones, some delicious some strange. Definitely sick to sweet and steer clear of sandwiches unless you like having a crumble party.
Amazing, best discovery for breakfast. Scones are so fresh, the homemade jams are delicious and they sell jars of them there as well. Before returning to Toronto, I took a dozen of these go go home. Delicious!
Just walking in, the smell of baking scones is enough to make you drool. They have a great selection of both sweet and savoury scones, and creative sconewich options. First time here, I tried the smoked turkey and stilton and WOW, so delicious! It was a great size for a small lunch. Excellent tea latté to round it out.
Delicious, affordable, and well portioned sizes! I got the tuna and tomato Sconewitch with black olive paste on a cheddar scone. I loved the combination. The sconewich was small, but it was the perfect amount for a breakfast. I can't wait to go back.
The best scones in Ottawa. My favourites: orange and cranberry, currant and ginger. Once you’ve chosen your favourite sweet or savoury - for a special treat, buy them uncooked, keep them in the freezer and then bake them fresh in the morning at home or at the cottage!!!! The scrambled eggs are velvety, the secret finished with cream.
I can't believe I'd never had a sconewich before. It's such a perfect idea! I had a savoury sconewich and got a sweet scone to take home. Highly recommend this place!
One of my favourite spots to breakfast. I highly recommend paying the extra $1 for the smoked salmon as well - it's excellent quality (i'm picky). The scones and jam are amazing! I even buy them to take home with me ... the smaller size jams are perfect, as they don't take up too much room, which means you can have 6 different types vs. 2 - 3. I would also like to make a special note about their seasonal lavender scones - AMAZING.
Delicious scones, and I thought I didn't like them until I tried these! Butter is extra $, and the price of tea is quite steep (no pun intended). They do however have wheat-free scone options available if that's your thing, which is nice (both sweet and savoury). Will be going back
A delightful treat! The scones are tasty and I really loved the rhubarb ginger jam. Going to have to pick some up next time I'm there. Friendly service, great atmosphere, and good coffee.
Went in for breakfast and it was fantastic. Staff were really great, food was great. I need to pop back to try the sweet ones!
Overall fine. Tried their sweet scones which were amazing. Lemon poppyseed and oatmeal scones are highly recommend! Had a poached salmon sconewitch and coffee for my second visit. The sconewitch …
Stopped by the SconeWitch recently to try out one of their savory scones for breakfast and it was enjoyable. The scone was flaky and light, with a tasty ham and cheese filling. $10 isn't a bargain, but the quality is clear to see, and I'd definitely return to try out their sweet options, which might even fare better than the savory ones.
The scones are ridiculously good! So good we came back again. The scones are delicious too. I believe I got the orange cranberry. Both of the scone witches (BLT and Goat cheese) were amazing. I can't recommend this place enough.
What A Treat!!! This place is a must if you want a good, out of the ordinary breakfast. It was my first time and the staff was super helpful and helpful. The scone was great, the jam was sublime and my scrambled eggs perfect. The side fruity salad was very good too. Good coffee to top it off. I truly recommend
Had the best brunch experience over the weekend - delicious eggs and vanilla cream scone. I also ordered the iced coffee which was really good. Go early, especially on weekends - it started to get more crowded when we left around noon.
I want so much to love their scones but they all leave a weird aftertaste.
Yummy, simple breakfasts! The scones are good but the jams are better. It’s crazy busy and a little hectic so bring a smile and share your table with a stranger. A little on the pricey side.
Absolutely great place to go for lunch. Quick service and the scones are to die for!
I've been to Sconewitch before to try their sweet scone options but I decided to try their lunch options and I couldn't be happier. I ordered the toasted ham and geueyer with horseradish mayo. I literally couldn't talk because I kept having to take bites it was so good. And for $7 it lands squarely in one of the cheaper lunch options downtown. Can't wait to try their other options.
We finally went there after trying one of their products at an event they attended, and because they were supposed to have gluten free options. When we got there, is was a nice ambience, although not exactly cozy. We got in line to order and the cashier was being very nice and helpful to the person in front, but when it was our turn she became instantly useless. She stopped smiling, when asked for gluten free options she said she had one that was old and didn't show it to us but instead reluctantly pointed at it. The menu does not have any prices, so when asking what something costs, she exasperated and rolled her eyes. She did this all very subtly, but more than obvious for us.
The scone witch is average at best. The service is quite slow so you’ll have some good wait periods especially when ordering a breakfast which is a little inconvenient if you’re in a rush. The scones are ok I would say and not the best. The best scone I had was the poppy seed one but they were mediocre and lacked that flavour profile
Cozy eatery with fresh selection of scones and scone-related food. Great variety of fresh fruit for brunch. The sconewitches I tried were tasty as well. Really special place, deserves a visit!
Scones. Freshly made scones. Made for you. With jam and whipped cream. What more could you want? Real talk, the onion and red pepper they put on my egg wasn't very good, but I didnt mind because everything else was delicious!!!!
I had my breakfast there. The food was fresh and delicious, but I waited for about 40 mins to get a seat.
On vacation looking for breakfast spot and found this gem. Their breakfast are made to order and their scones were amazing. The place is small, seatings are very limited and the place can get very busy, expect to wait for your food.
Visited Ottawa this past weekend and discovered this little gem less than a block from our hotel. On our first visit, we kept it simple - coffee and various scones with jam - which were very good. This is when we noticed the breakfast plates that other customers were ordering. Back at the hotel that night, we checked out the breakfast menu online and this morning all three of us ordered different combinations of the breakfast plates, referred to on the menu as "brunch". The variation I had was comprised of a fresh baked vanilla-cream scone with wild blueberry and raspberry jam, brilliantly smooth scrambled eggs topped with melt-in-your-mouth mushroom ragout, all accompanied by fresh cut fruit. I paired this a delicious salted caramel latte. The only thing I would mention to everyone is that it can get quite busy and it isn't overly large. Think cafe, which it is, more than restaurant. This is not meant to discourage anyone from visiting, just something to keep in mind (and I can only comment based on my two weekend morning visits). On our first visit on Saturday, we readily found a table, however Sunday morning we had to wait for some room to clear up, however, it did by the time our orders were brought out. However, when we left there was quite the lineup to order. Aside from the food, all of the staff were very friendly and quite knowledgeable about their products. When in the Ottawa area, be sure to check them out.
Meal type
Always delicious, very consistent. The cucumber and cream cheese sconewich is my fave!
Totally loved the sandwiches but the scones were also awesom
Had a wonderful brunch here with a couple of friends. We all tried different scones and different drinks, each to our liking. Delicious and memorable! A note on the employees; they are amazing. A customer behind me was being incredibly rude and belligerent to the staff and other customers because he was 'in a hurry' and they dealt with him fantastically. Kill 'em with kindness, right?
Take out
Delicious goooooooood, excellent customer service. There was a slight hiccup with one of the food item but they replaced the entire dish, offered an apology and refund. I wasn't expecting a refund, simply an apology and replacement of the item, so that was just beyond good customer service. Did I mention the food was delicious? It's delicious!
This place is worth the visit just to take in all the wonderful smells roaming about (someone please make some sort of body spray so I can smell like scones all day!) Everything was delicious, flavourfull, and fresh! Service was great even with it being extremely busy in there! Brunch is a steal (mushroom ragu on eggs all the way!!) Will definitely make this a stop every time I'm in Ottawa. Man....I'm still thinking of them scones!!
Come on the Scone Witch bakery is closed on a Monday morning at 9:51? Let's do business safely and securely when scones and coffee are meant to be eaten and drank. Get with it and let's get those employees firing up the ovens. Come on!! And cashless?? There's a royal bank across the street! Get some cash!! This store needs some management!
Amazing breakfast options. The coffee was so, so but the scone witches (sandwiches) were really good
Superb scones and other baked goods. I’ve not had their sandwiches but they look and smell delicious! Relaxed atmosphere, it can get busy but the wait is not usually too long. I had to take a star off because even though the coffee is delicious the take out cups are horrible - the coffee always drips all over my hands and down my arm. So, if you want to enjoy their yummy coffee, be sure to bring your own travel mug!
Amazing scones both savoury and sweet, made into sandwiches, with jam or curd-- so many scone options! And they are the best scones I've ever had. Definitely recommend this place!
Would have given 5 stars, but the visit this morning, Thursday, May 16, was not nearly as superb as our visit on Tuesday, the morning of the 14th. Tuesday the eggs were sublime, creamy and moist; the sliced mushroom topping had a freshness and fullness to it; the herb and onion scone was oven fresh, flaky, and crispy. So, Tuesday was a solid and definite 10! (I was told "Cameron" was cooking, check before you go and make sure he's there. He really seemed to enjoy what he was doing, always smiling and energetic.) Thursday, was a 5, at best ☹️. The eggs were overcooked, twice; the mushroom topping looked like it had been tortured; the cold, heavy, scone tasted at least a day old. I had to ask for it to be reheated, they did, without even offering me a fresh one. I was heartbroken after my earlier, stellar, experience. (I was told who was cooking this morning, but I won't name her. I watched her over cooking every portion of scrambled eggs, with little expression, and low energy, she just didn't seem to enjoy her work, and my meal suffered.) I noticed that there were more than a few plates left with scrambled eggs on them (unlike Tuesday morning). Scrambled eggs might seem easy to make, but it actually takes attention and care, like Cameron's, to create light, creamy, melt in your mouth eggs that prompt rave reviews and make travellers come back a second time in one week. I'm not sure whose fault the stone cold, day old tasting scone was ????.
Amazing variety of scones! Tried the peach crumble scone with apricot jam, and the cucumber and cream cheese sconewitch!
Delicious! Brunch comes with scrambled eggs, meat of your choice (vegetarian options too), fresh fruit, fresh scone and a small salad. Their coffee was also amazing. Everything is worth the money. We were visiting Ottawa for the weekend and went to this place twice as we enjoyed it that much!
Love this place! Yes, they are a little pricier than the supermarket ones, but it's totally worth it! You can tell they really put in the thought and effort when creating these …
Love love love SconeWitch!!! They're scones are some of the best I have ever had. You can't go wrong with any flavour. They're jam and cream go very well with the scones. I would recommend trying one of their scone-wich or eggs option. This place is cute and has a handful of seats, so it will get busy.
Whenever I visit Ottawa I make sure to stop by this location for breakfast. This was my third visit here, but the first time since Covid. The menu is a bit limited this time around from what I recall, but understandable given the circumstances. Sconewitches are still delicious and fresh.
The most delicious scones and jams are served here! I really liked the consistency of the scones (they were baked to perfection). The selection of jams was wonderful! I also really enjoyed the lemon curd. Overall a wonderful experience. Definitely would come here again!
Came here 4 years ago. I'm back now and their scones are still amazing
The scones are the best part, amazingly fresh! Crisp in the right spots and soft in the middle. The jams are also really nice. Would prefer if they had some more hearty breakfast options ie bacon. Also coffee is very average, need a better machine and barista training. Would definitely go back.
One of my favourite local places - the scones are all delicious, fresh, crispy and moist with a wide variety of sweet and savoury flavours. They do a scone-of-the-month too. Love their breakfast scone creations with eggs, fruit and everything. Their house-made tea blend is delightful. A busy place on a weekend morning with counter service and jostling for a seat, but great for lunch or breakfast, or just a delicious scone snack anytime.
We had their scones for a company event. It was a huge hit with everyone. They were delicious, fresh and light with the perfect amount of flakiness. Its hard to choose from all the different flavours. Would definitely want to check out their store.
Super delicious and worth the money! Scones are made fresh and the staff are very kind. The only thing is that there is very limited seating and it can get very busy on the weekends, so you may have to take your food to go.
Great place with amazing food, really good for breakfast or brunch. The staff is very friendly and can recommend you what to take. They also have a few good vegetarian options which is always a plus. I tried their tea and it was really good. The portions are not very big which is good if you don't want to get stuffed, but just want to get a quick bite. Would definitely come there again when I'm in Ottawa
My boyfriend and I stopped by The SconeWitch to grab an afternoon snack, and we got the BLT SconeWitch with pesto on a feta scone. It was delicious and hit the spot! I will definitely be coming back!
Great food! Fresh and delicious. Small portions however. I had the Brunch and a Cafe Mocha
Discovered this business (downtown location) back in 2010 and have visited it almost Everytime we've been to Ottawa. The scones are still very good and as described. They have expanded to this location during the last few years. More power to them. Staff is kind and courteous and don't mind taking time to explain things to customers. Parking is difficult in the vicinity, however.
Fun and friendly place, and fantastic scones. Scones are a little bit small but that way, you can try more flavors without feeling too guilty. ;) We've had their "scone witch" with mushroom ragout (Husband: Why don't we ever cook a mushroom ragout? It's sooo good!), savoury scone with turkey ham and Stilton cheese (very nice combination that I have to try at home, too), another savoury scone with scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and salad, and two sweet scones (orange-cranberry and lemon-poppyseed). Seems like a lot of food, but as I mentioned - the scones are not large (and it was our brunch, after all). One minus for coffee which is not bad but rather average. But I have to add another plus for the service...Prompt and very nice.
What an amazing experience! A very nice gentleman gave our 3 month old a little hand knitted finger puppet that he loves, the Scones were delicious (both savory and sweet), prices were great and the staff was awesome! Would highly recommend!
Not a tonne of seating unfortunately, but these scones are beyond words! The clotted cream and jam gets me every time, and some gluten free options are a great touch!
$14 for brunch, you get to select from an array of scones and jams. It's delicious!
Really unique place, if you like scones its a place for you.
It’s okay here. It’s good food, made fresh. My gf however lives to go to this place. Look how happy she is. How could I not give this place 5 stars. Thanks for always making my gf happy.
Best scones EVER! More like flaky biscuits. Make it a point to go.
Finally ate here after many recommendations. Not dissapointed! Very friendly staff! The scones are very very light and fluffy I need to go back and try some fruity ones. Only downside is I found the goat cheese very very thick in the middle and not spread out and they are a bit awkward to eat...aside from that it is really good and very packed with people!
You know that stereotypical dry scone you have in your mind? This place will change that. Their scones are always fresh and fluffy. Amazing variety, I can't pick my favourite. They get their jams from Moss Berry Farms in Southwestern Ontario and they are a delight. I'll usually pick up a little jar whenever I pop in for a scone.
I have a new addiction to scones after visiting this place. I really wish I could have taken some pictures of the food but it disappeared into my mouth before I could get the chance. I'll give a breakdown of different aspects of this place below but for the Coles Notes version, you definitely owe it to yourself to try this place. Layout: lots of wooden chairs and tables at different heights. The place is always busy but I've never had to wait long to find a spot to sit. Weekends are definitely busier but during the week isnt too bad. Very clean and spacious. Food: excellent. If you like scones and breakfast fare then you've come to the right place. I recommend the breakfast special with mustard glazed ham over eggs, vanilla scone with blackberry jam. They also do scones of the month which helps keep things fresh. There are sweet and savoury options depending on your craving which you'll eventually want to try. Coffee: this gets a special spot because I love my coffee and I am a huge fan of whichever blend they are serving. I would have bought a bag for home if I wasnt already overstocked. Price: a little pricey, but not much more expensive than anywhere else. I dont mind paying for quality and contributing to small businesses and this place definitely checks both of those boxes. Overall, I cannot say enough good things about this place. You owe it to yourself to try it out.
Food was pretty good and the wait was very short for lunch around the 12:30 time. My only complain was the layout seemed backwards as I wasn’t sure where to go at first(cash they were using was opposite the door with no clear signage) and when I asked for soup I wasn’t aware there was only the one option. Otherwise the actual sconewhich was amazing. I would go back for more.
Nice scones. Parking available outside on the street or if your not lucky you can go exactly opposite the restaurant for the parking garage.
The must food stop for good scones. As well a good stop for either breakfast, brunch, lunch or afternoon tea.
Food is a 5. Minus 1 star because they didn’t accept cash. I’m not a big Scone person, but this place changed my mind. Scones were perfectly flakey and baked fresh. I got the herb and onion tuna one.
Very good scones even if a bit pricey. Definitely a place to recommend for a quick lunch/breakfast although it would need more seating during busier periods on weekends.
Waited over 40 minutes for breakfast.. Not enough places to seat. When I ask why was taking so long their answer was "did you order eggs?" that's why! The person who takes the order could have mention that would take that long. Five people in the kitchen working super slow. Scones were good not 43$ worth the time waiting around. Go if you just want to get a scone and coffee.
wow!!! the lemon curd was soo goooood and the devon cream Loved the experience and will def visit again Tried the lemon poppy seed scone, vanilla, apple toffee, and cranberry orange. It tasted fresh and amazing. such a treat to come here!!! we seriously Cannot wait to visit this place again when were in ottawa next.
The Devon cream!!! The cream!! The cream!!! How I wish they sold this cream in my city!! You can sit down to eat here, take food to go, or you can buy a jar of jam, bottle of Devon cream, etc. Vanilla scone, Strawberry jam, and Devon cream combo was the best; everyone at my table thought so too. Strawberry jam was the best store bought jam I have had.The vanilla scone was lovely; the best I have had so far, but the cream was the knockout!! The cream is thick like softened butter. Put the cream thickly on the warmed vanilla scone and then add the strawberry jam on top! Wow!! Wow!! Wow!! I am in love!! I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars!! I also tried the lemon curd on the lemon poppy seed and vanilla scone, and tasted raspberry jam on the vanilla scone. They were nice, but not like the other. They have a customer washroom. *See my pics for more info.
Warm and inviting place. These guys do a good scone however the coffee was a bit below par for me. Staff were efficient and courteous. Grab a seat on the long bench by the window and watch the world go by.
The best scones I've ever eaten! I tried the onion and herbs and the raspberry one. Even though both are amazing, I found the first one more flavorful than the second. Also, the raspberry one was very small compared to the savory. I think the service can be improved, I did not feel very "welcome" as I only bought two scones and it shouldn't be the case.
Great fluffy and light scones served traditionally or in sandwich version... Great coffee and atmosphere, good choice for weekend brunch!! Recommended!!!
Absolutely delicious bacon melt! The scones are incredible! Not at all the dense and crumbly scones you're used to; flaky and puffy, more like a pastry! Unbelievable how yummy they are.
We came early to get breakfast before we started our day of sightseeing. We watched as other customers orders came out before ours. No cream for the scones in a scone shop at opening time is just ridiculous. Food was great. Scone was perfect and the jam (ginger rhubarb) was some of the best I've tasted. Scrambled eggs were soft and fluffy. Coffee was ok.
They get quite creative with their scones here. Their take on the sandwich, the sconewitch comes with a wide variety of fillings. I tried the one with the salmon and it tasted great. The servers are a young smiling bunch. Overall a nice experience.
If you visit a scone witch restaurant you will observe people who stop for a moment before digging into their delicious food. That's because their creations are appetizingly beautiful and delicious! Their scones are truly out of this world and the sandwiches they make with them are very tasty. Plus you can buy some to bring home and share the love!
They do scones very well! The scones are tender with the right amount of crispness. I always order the current ginger scone with the Moss Berry Farms ginger rhubarb jam. Delicious! Brunch here is also a treat. The scrambled eggs are creamy, and the green and fruit salads are fresh. I've had the ham and the mushroom ragout, and both have been delicious. Their ginger tea is sharp and very gingery, just the way I like it!
The scones are very delicious. I will definitely visit again whenever I go to Ottawa.
Such a great range of scones, including savoury! We absolutely loved the scones we chose (I got lemon poppy with wild blueberry jam, and he got smoked salmon topped scones) and would recommend this place for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or a quick snack!
A whole cafe dedicated to scones?! Scone sandwiches?! This place made my dreams come true.
Must go in Ottawa. The scones are very good. Match it with their jams. (Many options on their menu). The only part I was slightly disappointed was my latte, didn't tasted good and not hot enough.
The Scone Witch is well-lit, comfortable, and delicious!!! They have a full bar height counter along the front windows for lone customers to relax or work, and their seats are wide and tall (comfy for bigger bums). They have around 7 or 8 small tables and two additional bar-height tables, all wood. They have two accessible entries, one from outside and one from within the office building attached. They have gender neutral bathrooms, but they may be too small for most mobility vehicles. The scones at this place are to die for! You can choose from an assortment of savory and sweet, sandwiches, teas, coffees, and more! And it's a short distance from the 14 bus stop near Cooper and Elgin.
Lovely! The entrance is actually on Gloucester Street - the Elgin entrance is really convoluted and confusing. The rhubarb-ginger jam was amazing!
A little bit pricey, but the quality of the food makes up for it! I had the tuna tomato scone with a side salad and thought it was delicious. I really like the olive component in the tuna scone! The salad dressing was a little too strong for me, but I still really enjoyed it.
Good coffee. Great scones. Inventive and tasty. But to pay $.50 more for their feature scone makes no sense. What make even less sense is their choice of furniture: large wooden chairs so heavy that everyone is forced to drag and push them around; the attendant racket, unlike lively conversation, proved infuriating. Even the staff shove them about. The great scones aren't great enough to have me put up with what sounds like a construction site.
Great scones, great breakfast, great sandwiches. Only thing I dislike is their coffee, it is a definite low point. However, if you're willing to pay a little more for your caffeine fix, their espresso drinks are good.
I have taken so many of my friends from out of town here and they all love it. All the difference is made if you manage to come when their scones are still warm. Excellent textures of scone and the sconewhiches are great combinations too.
This is my place to go when I think on breakfast, their scones are so delicious, I love their onion and herbs scone with butter, it's so perfectly done, with the right texture. They have several scone-based sandwich options with or without salads, all delicious specially if you pair them with their unique jam selection. But the real deal here it's their breakfast/brunch special: eggs, topping, scone, salad and jam/butter. It's a no-brainer, it the best! Portions are fair, if you are thinking just on volume, then this is not the right place for you, or just get an extra sandwich!. This place is about great taste and creative flavors. Highly recommended.
Best scones I've ever had. Both the sweet scones and the scone sandwich are delicious.
Best damned scones I've ever had. We had the BLT on cheddar and it's good I don't live near here or I would need one every day. The tuna sandwich was also amazing (we had it without the olive paste) and then we got an oatmeal scone and a …
This is my second time visiting the place to have a brief and casual tea time in the middle of busy afternoon. This is a decent place to get a scone and a cup of tea in Ottawa! They served varied versions of scones, not the traditional way if you are thinking about the British style of scones, but I still enjoyed them. I had to purchase jam and clotted cream separately though, and somehow the clotted cream was not the cream exactly - it was more like butter I think. For a small pot of tea, an oatmeal scone, and jam and butter, I paid 7.74 plus tip. Thanks for the good food!
I used to go there often on my way to work picking up scones. The quality of pastry is decent, though not good enough to justify their terrible (border-line rude) service.
The place feels overly industrial and the concept of ordering at the counter and finding your seats subsequently is a bit frustrating, particularly as people come in and try to secure a seat prior to ordering. Food is really underwhelming here. Ordered the brunch with addition of Smoked Salmon and a savoury scone. Found the salmon too fishy smelling (which it shouldn't be), the eggs pale and lacking fluffiness, and the scone dense and hard. I've eaten some exceptional scones in my day and thought a place with that name should make outstanding ones, but this was simply not the case on the day of my visit. The jams are spectacular however.
Really like this place! My only criticism is that some of the salad leaves were not fresh - the rest was great!
Marvellous fresh scones. Get a sweet scone with jam or a savoury one with eggs to start your day right. Staff are very helpful and friendly, service is fast and the atmosphere is relaxed. Definitely worth a stop if you're downtown.
Amazing food and atmosphere. The scones are incredible.
If you’re looking for homemade scones, devon cream and craft jams The SconeWitch is for you. They have some cool lunch specials and they are quite a lot of food. I did find the pricing a little steep however. Two vanilla cream scones with a side of blueberry-raspberry jam and devon cream will ring in at just under $10. Nevertheless, everything I ate here was very good.
Stopped there to have breakfast on my way to Algonquin Park. I had the creamy scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, an orange / cranberry scone with rhubarb / ginger jam and a latte. Paid 18 bucks. Very expensive for what it is. I'm not very familiar with scones so I don't know if what I had was well done or not. I found the pastries to be very dry,sl I didn't really like it. The eggs were alright, but not great. And for the price I paid, I expected to have a bit more than 10 grams of smoked salmon. A bit disappointed overall.
The place were good for dinner and lunch. Staff are very professional and friendly.
Best scones I’ve ever had, pair them with their delicious jams for a taste of heaven. Would definitely come back for these. Coffee was ok, nothing too special. Staff could have been more attentive to clearing tables, ensuring the cream/sugar station was stocked; the little things.
I liked the old location better - Sconewitch seems to be going more corporate now it's branching out, coffee's not as good, scones are smaller. Pricey, quite good ambience and friendly staff, but the place is too small for the rotating door of clientele.
Service
Love, love, love. The mushroom ragout is beyond delicious and their scones are incredible. The breakfast is literally the best, and I am only sad that I only get here a couple of times a year when I am in Ottawa on business.
I enjoy coming here on the weekend. I try to visit once a month. It is one of my absolute breakfast destination downtown. The sweet and savoury option is by far my favourite and the mushroom ragout on my eggs are phenomenal. Service is super and the food delicious. I hope they expand ever so slightly to retain that small, but lovely café feel. Very happy ???? customer.
Always great for brunch or a snack. Exactly what it says on the tin, tea and scones with a friendly atmosphere. They have 'meal scones', my favourite of which is the 'Bacon Cheese Melt': a scone of your choice sliced in half topped with bacon and cheese accompanied with fresh fruit.
Delicious variety of sweet and savoury scones! Cream and tasty Ontario-made jams. Americano was pretty good. It's all about scones, so they do one thing but they do it very well. Good seating at the Eglin site.
Love love love the Home Delivery! Scone Witch was always a "go to" lunch place so when COVID hit I switched to delivery. The Scones are delivered frozen and you just pop them in the oven for fresh hot goodness. I had to restrict my diet in the summer so I sent them an e-mail and they promptly responded with what scones to avoid. Super helpful.
Loved the scones here! Cant say anything bad. They do scones really well. The breakfast scone sandwich is a hearty meal worth every penny. Really recommend this as a place to visit in Ottawa.
taste good but it's kinda expansive and the fruit is too less
I had the tomato tuna sconewitch on a feta scone. It had black olive tapenade, which is great. Overall, I found it to be dry despite the juiciness of the tuna mixture. My friend had the gingerbread scone, which she said was good. It also looked a bit dry but that would be relatively consistent with the nature of a ginger cookie.
I've been here twice now, visiting from the GTA, and all I can say is that I wish we had a location here! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, great service. Seating is somewhat limited and lines can be long, as the first time I came in, the line was almost out the door. The second time I came by was around 10am on a weekday, so there wasn't a line and there were even a few free seats. Food is delicious, and every scone I've tried was tasty. The breakfast with eggs, a scone, a salad, and your choice of protein/side was delicious and pretty filling, but maybe not the cheapest. Worth it though, I think, as a treat!
