Great place, but my last visit was a bit stressful the guy at the cash means well but he tries to rush you through in pushy manner without really meaning to do that. I think it's just his personality. I would ask the owner to pick good gentle staff to deal with customers we don't want to feel stressed over a coffee that's why we go there to relax so ask the guy at the cash to relax!!!

Take a walk down Dalhousie street and near the end you will find a gem of a coffee house. Excellent coffee, dark roast. The scones are beyond belief delicious. Home made goods. Staff is friendly and extremely nice. They speak Spanish, English French. Totally different than the chain coffee places round town. They also sell Happy Goat coffee. A must place to drop by to enjoy a quite coffee with friends.

Ideal Coffee is tucked away at the north end of Dalhousie, away from the bustle of downtown. The atmosphere is friendly. Ideal is a one of a kind place. They roast their beans in-house. The majority of the clientele seems to be local. My wife and I always make a point of having coffee there each time we are in Ottawa.

I'm here daily. Coffee is fresh, baked goods are done on the spot (you don't really know what scones or cookies they'll have and that's fun). The staff is amazing, they know what they are doing and the scones are just amazing!!! I didn't know scones could be so yummy. Also, the chocolate chip cookies are exactly like home made (cause they are)... but available during the day when you need your fix before a meeting of just to enjoy the patio. Yeap... I am sorry to say that their latte was one of the worst I had in my life. Milke was burnt, coffee was very acid and they sprinkled cocoa on top without asking me if I wanted some or not. Unfortunately, I hate cocoa on my latte... I threw the whole thing in the garbage after 3 or 4 sips. Such a waste...

How did this place get 4.6 stars?? Absolutely terrible quality. Look at the cappuccino I had. I knew it's bad just looking at the foam but still hoped the espresso would compensate. I was wrong. Even Tim Hortons can make 10x better espresso. Very disappointed. But the cafe is nice, enjoyed sitting by the window.

I Deal offers great coffee (and fancier beverages, if that is your 'cup of joe') at a decent price. Staff are always friendly and service is quick. The cafe serves up a variety of homemade treats (scones are a bit pricey, but stand out as the joint's signature baked good), many of which are gluten free. Unfortunately, some goodies are hit and miss on taste - but the pão de queijo deserves a hat-tip, and more substantial food options like breakfast meals are pretty consistent and on-par with offerings from nearby establishments (like Das Lokal) in terms of quality.

I visited for the first time this week and have eagerly come back twice more. The cafe itself is filled with natural light thanks to the large windows, and the staff here are friendly and really brighten the whole space. Coffee is delicious, and yesterday I tried their Sunday breakfast and it is wonderful. I didn’t try to Eggs Benedict, but I heard several exclamations about how good the hollandaise sauce is, so I’ll have to try it next time... Mostly, this is a really inviting and exciting space to be in. It’s a comfortable place to study in, a comfortable space to have breakfast in, and a comfortable space to have a coffee and look out the window at snowy Dalhousie St. Very quickly, this has become one of my favourite spots in Ottawa.

Update: new owners, new look and feel, new food and now serving happy goat coffee. I generally love happy goat, but I find iDeal coffee still too strong / bitter for my taste. The scones and muffins are great. Definitely try for yourself. I have changed my rating to a three star. If the coffee were like happy goat on Rideau, I would easily give it a five star. Old review: Only if you are desperate. There roasts are not consistent. Prices are good for the ByWard area.

I live a block away so a very convenient location. The counter staff is inattentive and I have walked out twice now as they don't even take a second to acknowledge someone at the counter. My advise...walk on by and go to Bridgehead. A bit further of a walk...better prices, better staff. You'll have your coffee quicker than standing in line unacknowledged at Ideal

Great ambience. Almost a hidden gem because of its location. Undoubtedly a hit among the locals in the area. Very close to Byward, yet far enough that it's a nice and quiet place to sit. I sat here to study and the atmosphere was perfect. Music is tasteful and the staff are gems. Had a strong iced americano with a delicious vegetarian pizza and a delectable scone. Would revisit without a doubt.

Really cool, cozy, and warm place that serves good coffee by friendly staff. Their baked goods are really good, but not cheap ($2/cookie). Their chocolate chip cookies are really good, and the scones are generous in size. Tried the raspberry and white chocolate scone which was moist, but I didn't really taste the raspberry or white chocolate. The coffee is really good. Would definitely recommend dropping by and enjoying a relaxing cup of joe.

Such a wonderful place! We are not from Ottawa and we were looking for somewhere to eat and this place was open, so we thought we would try it and it was delicious! The workers were super friendly and helpful in helping us choose what to get. They had lots of options of drinks to choose from. They had delicious local beer, coffee, lattes, and other drinks! I enjoyed going there!

A hidden gem inside of Byward! The staffs were so welcoming and friendly, and the foods were very good. I was surprised by how delicious tumeric latte was, and again by all other food we ordered. I also really enjoyed the Blueberry Fritter as well! I can see myself visiting this location again :)

Definitely one of my favourite places to grab a coffee, it is deliciously brewed. The atmosphere is interesting to say the least not your typical coffee joint neither pretentious. The staff are friendly as long as you say please and thank you :-).. Clearly you will find other drinks, but nothing beats the taste of great coffee or espresso... Also, the scones are really amazing but they go fast, so get their early.

I stopped by this cafe because I was really cold and needed a place to warm myself. The staff are really friendly and nice. I had a really nice, warm mocha coffee. Used to have organic milk and unique drinks, now all gone. They really push the global meats, high-priced gulag "parfait", and other corporate brands. No clocks allowed. Bathrooms serve the 0.5%. Awesome local coffee shop. Totally worth the 10 minutes walk from the core area. Highly recommend their breakfast wrap as well as their gluten-free fudge brownie!

Only place I found in Ottawa serving authentic (and delicious) Brazilian food. They have a special Brazilian dinner on Saturdays. The owners are really nice and they came to welcome us. They are also having live music on Saturdays. I really recommend it for all Brazilians missing home and everyone else getting to know our culture! If going in big groups, you’ll need to make a reservation.

I've been here twice and I'm sold. Got a large drip coffee and a scone for $5 today, both were very good. Nice, comfortable place to settle-in with a book. They have a book case with some books and a piano so you feel like you're in a living room. And there's a patio which looks comfortable.
