A cute little cafe with excellent coffee and great tasting sandwiches! The day staff are quiet, but nice nonetheless. The girl working in the evening was super friendly and easy to talk to. Today I bought the croissant with turkey, tomato and lettuce with Dijon mustard. The Dijon mustard was very spicy, so be warned! Highly recommend this place as a quick lunch stop.

Fun place to hang out for bfast or lunch. Can get pretty cold in the winter but it’s awesome with the open walls in the summer.

The best thing about this cafe is the location. It's right in the heart of the market, so you can sit by the windows and people watch. In the summer, the walls come up and open up the space which lets in fresh air and makes it feel like all the liveliness of the market is part of the restaurant. The sandwiches are delicious and the staff is very friendly. Overall, a great experience that I'd recommend to anyone.

Kudos to the Byward Cafe team. Beautiful kale salad. And I wanted a fried egg with it for breakfast and a scoop of tuna. They accomodated and I had a great breakfast and lunch thanks to their flexibility. The kale salad was especially delicious. It went really well with the scoop of tuna and egg. Made my morning. Pretty average Americano. So many places in the ByWard for coffee (cheaper than $4.40 for a medium-sized coffee). This place makes sense especially if you are getting food. We didn't get food. Definitely try this place and compare with others when you are in the area.

Food was pretty good and they offer metal cutlery for those eating at the cafe, but provide plastic containers for those taking their food to go. Service could use work though - I waited at the cash for too long without being served/greeted/acknowledged, despite the two associates standing at the kitchen counter having a conversation and one of them making eye contact with me repeatedly. When I was finally acknowledged, they both decided to assist me and the person immediately behind me simultaneously. Our orders were ready at the same time, but the person behind me ended up paying before me because apparently line order does not apply at this establishment. In summary, food was pretty good, but service was lacking. Will probably go to Planet Coffee around the corner instead, where I have never been ignored nor forced to give up my spot in line.

I thought it was a cute place for a quick bite and a latte. I liked my Danish, but part of me wishes I bought the cheesecake instead! Their cakes looked fabulous! My boyfriend had a panini with chicken and swiss, which, to be honest reminded me of Starbuck's paninis. It did taste good, but the quality was just alright. I thought the men working the counter were very sweet and friendly though, especially the one who made our lattes. There were a few bees flying around, but I understand they are hard to avoid this time of year.

Awful service. It's as if the servers couldn't be bothered. They stop serving you 2-3 hours before the cafe closes for the night, and they'll only serve you what they prefer to serve you, even though what you want and requested is very much visible on display. If you want to eat at a good atmosphere choose any restaurant in downtown but this one.

I popped in during my visit to Ottawa and had their cappuccino with honey, it was delicious. Also, I recommend trying their croissant with turkey and cheese - make sure to get it heated up with mayo and mustard, YUM! Also, the owner/employees are wonderful. Highly recommend :)
