Coffee is top-notch and the service is excellent. I used to work nearby and would visit versus from time to time. I had never once had a bad experience. The attention to detail when it comes to espresso based drinks is superb. I would order short double shots and they never disappointed once. Staff is very warm, friendly, and down to earth. One of the best cafes in Toronto.

2020.09.14. Today morning walk was to "Versus Coffee" on Adelaide Street. I had a drip coffee (for a change). It was a good coffee. They have a nice seating outside on the patio. They serve breakfast, sandwiches, and drinks (beer and wine). A great variety. Today was sunny and warm 17 degrees and the walk was great.

Today I went in to order myself and my sister a vanilla latte. My sister waited outside while I ordered as she is a respiratory intensive care nurse (but one in dire need of a good coffee). I was absolutely blown away not only by the delicious coffee and coffee knowledge, but the incredible human being working behind the counter. Not only was he incredibly upbeat, funny and enthusiastic about the coffee, he was personable while maintaining professionalism and lit the whole store up with his positive energy. I have managed international teams in retail across the globe and this employee deserves a serious thanks in these trying times. SO refreshing considering the difficult climate! Absolutely get your coffee here and support this business.

Lush lattes. Fresh baked croissants and pains au chocolats. Friendly if not a bit sarcastically dry staff dole out some seriously good caffeinated beverages. Ample patio space on Adelaide street. Evidently the locals’ favorite and while a bit of a walk from our ‘hood (Distillery) I’ll be making the trek when I can. Recommended.

The cafe is small and cute with limited seating. It has outdoor seating as well as multiple levels of seating. The cashier and servers were really nice. The latte I ordered had coloring to it which was very pretty and adds a touch or personalization. It is a nice place to relax and enjoy a cup of fine espresso.

Great cafe downtown. It is reasonably sized with outdoor seating. Open late (til 6) and weekdays later. They do some interesting Coffees like the campfire (maple syrup and marshmallows), beetroot and turmeric lattes as well as beautiful coloured latte art. Loved it!

Actually used to really like this place but as service slowed and staff decreased in friendliness, I have decided to no longer go to this cafe. TL;DR - The coffee is good with decent beans (de mello is awesome), knowledgeable staff, food is good albiet pricier. Service is not consistent, Ritual orders will almost likely be delayed. The good: Coffee beans are good, food is generous and delicious even if it's a little expensive, I think it's worth it. Some staff are good. The bad: On numerous Ritual orders it was outageously late (its happened 5+ times). Not even an apology when we walked in the door. One specific order was missing a coffee. The owner didn't acknowledge and was at the Ritual tablet. Another time on a Saturday morning, a serving barista walked right into me and elbowed me in the shoulder and gave me attitude.

I used to adore this place and go there frequently enough that the staff recognized me and remembered my order. The first time I went to redeem a free drink because I had a few of those loyalty stamp cards, the owner said it was not valid because someone stole the stamp and he wasn't honouring the program anymore. I asked for more information and he said the stamp had been stolen a while back. I asked why the customers were never told that these cards had to be redeemed by a certain time due to the theft and he said he had informed the customers. That was a lie because I had been going there so often and was never told that. I would never go back there again. The staff there are amazing but the owner is only in it for the profit.

A little bit on the pricey side for coffee, but in my opinion, it's worth it. It's quite small inside, but they use the room wisely and there are lots of places to sit. I came here mid-week in the afternoon and it was full. Fortunately, we were taking out coffees to go. A lot more people came in while we were waiting. I tried the Campfire Latte. It was amazing! Cute combination of flavours, and a lot more that I want to try in the future. Their food looks delicious as well. Fresh, homemade and fairly healthy. As I've walked by again, I see that they have a large patio. I can't wait to come here for lunch, or a coffee and some people watching.

It’s genuinely a cute spot to go with a friend on a study date. Cozy, sweet staff, and just a generally good vibe about the place. Good coffee beans too. I can appreciate the care they put into grinding and preparing the bean. Smokey smell that isn’t overwhelming like Starbucks. When I came back home and opened my backpack, I actually liked the residual coffee smell on my stuff. 10/10 would recommend for anyone that likes simple, hipster atmosphere. One suggestion: give the radio station a good some genres! I think I heard every Beatles song the whole time I was there. Not a bad thing, but with a cool cafe, maybe a variety in vintage music would be cool too.

LARGE ONE

Cosy place, seems to be packed with students and finance types whenever I stop by. Its quite small, so having a personal conversation is quite awkward in such a tight space. Food is well made, warm and delicious (the sriacha tuna sandwich melts in your mouth and hits all the right spots) albeit it is on the pricier end. All that said, Im giving this place 5 stars cause theres this really cute barista who always wears a baseball cap. His smile and friendly small chat makes the pain of a 9 dollar coffee sting a little less :)

Run by two brothers with an accent, that might be found delightful by some women, which one of the brothers told me is from France, this is a brand new place. Tall ceilings small sitting space white walls stark but cosy...that's the ambience. The windows look out on the intersection of Adelaide and Church and the understated magnificence of St. James Cathedral. The coffee is really good and so is the cocoa powder. The slim exotic looking brother says liquor license is around the corner. Nice place.

I had their salmon and avocado toast and a coffee for "brunch" on a Tuesday. The food was really good and considering the time in the downtown atmosphere the service/wait time was ok. The coffee was ok but I went in expecting more both taste and appearance wise, specially that I read about their "coffee art" but mine foamed out pretty quickly and my coffee came way faster than the food did. The shop inside is a little small so it's a ideal for a quick grab and go. The patio outside is beautiful though and may make a good summer spot.

Serving Pilot Coffee beans, the coffee is good. My decaf flat white was well done and I’m very picky about coffee. Croissant was decent; made fresh this morning, I was recommended not to heat it up, though I love a quick oven warm-up for croissants. Maybe that’s not a very classy thing to like? It was still crispy on the outside, soft, buttery inside. It’s a small space and even on a Sunday afternoon filled with laptops and tables of chatting friends.

Great tasting espresso coffees in a well appointed space. The patio is wonderfully refreshing in the summer time, although traffic can be a little loud and annoying during rush hour. The design is modern with good attention to details. The service was great; unprompted the owner (I'm assuming based on what he mentioned) came by our table to replace a saucer that had had some of my friends beverage spilled in it. A must visit for a true coffee fan.

I used to adore this place. I collected the stamp cards. I went to redeem them and the owner didn’t feel like honouring the program. Apparently someone stole the stamp and he gave customers 6 months to redeem. At no point was a sign posted to let us know that and none of the staff let me know that even as they were stamping my cards. For all my colleagues that I’ve referred to this place, I’ll also be sharing this story and I definitely will not be back. Horrible service.

There's so many places in Toronto that boast 'third wave coffee'. TO blog, or scanning through the endless reviews it's all the same: coffee shop with a picture of latte art thousands of positive reviews. You get there, and if you know coffee...it horribly disappoints. [Disclaimer] I grew up with 2 friends that compete in barista competitions and can tell the difference between someone who knows how to reproduce the gestures (tamp, grind, extraction, etc)...and a barista who knows (or cares) how to dial in a shot. E.g. spoiled and basically a real life version of Jordan Schlansky. So far I've been repeatedly disappointed with just about every coffee shop in Toronto. It's awful. That said, the barista pulled a pretty solid shot for our lattes. Thanks guys! I appreciate the friendly service, good coffee and killer smoked salmon (I literally went back for seconds).

Lovely outside seating (both sun and shade) and friendly service. Though, we were disappointed in the Cold Brew (nitro) today. Apart from the creamy head, it tasted like a regular iced coffee that got diluted due to too many ice cubes in it. It was not worth its price of $5. I may come back for their other drinks, but won’t order the nitro again.

Coffee scene in Toronto is pretty fierce and plentiful... So how do you make yourself stand out? Lots of people can do wonderful latte art and make it Insta pretty. There are some really good local roasters to get very good beans and make a great tasting cup. Most people can reno and paint their way to a cute spot. So what's the difference between a 4 and 5 star place? The owner and baristas. Anthony, owner of Versus, brought that forward and put Versus in one of my top spots in Toronto for me. Sitting pretty with a patio at the base of a new(er) build condo, Versus is a cute and modern small cafe that serves up espresso based drinks and also buddha bowls and simple breakfast fares. It's a calm atmosphere with its white washed walls and lots of bright sunlight flowing in. On a Sunday morning, lots of locals filled the tables with their drinks and laptops. It was nicely quiet even if every table was taken. Quick note ... for all those who want to get your Instagram pretty drinks. Just tell them ahead of time and for a few dimes, they can make your drink look like a rainbow. Also they have this crazy sounding one where they use maple syrup and roasted marshmallow for their campfire latte. Flat white - rich, smooth, and balanced. This was very nice and the darker notes made me appreciate it even more since a few recent places were quite light. I liked how there wasn't too much acidity but there was a touch bitterness that gave it a pleasant bite. It's definitely not your starter espresso drink but it's still very approachable. 5/5 Caramel Latte - I love the latte art on this one as I know almond milk doesn't froth as densely as cows milk. The taste to this was mildly sweet with a touch of caramel. It did balance with the lighter coffee note as it didn't overwhelm it. Perhaps I was expecting a bolder note for both the coffee or caramel. Either way, a nice drink to start the day. I think I'll grab the flat white next time. 4/5 As I mentioned, 5 stars are not common for me but I feel the passion from Anthony was really great. We had an amazing conversation about the coffee scene in Toronto. His personal take on how Toronto's taste buds are with coffee and how he specifically chosen his coffee beans to suit his clientele. I definitely want to return and perhaps try more great drinks.

There's really nothing to dislike about this place, simple, friendly and a cool spot to chat, work or get away from the mundaneness of the work stress day. Also on Ritual if you would like to get some points, cash in points... They are one of the places in Toronto that does the colour art latte with food colouring for an extra $0.40---ask them nicely and they will sure create! The latte themselves were creamy, delicious but nothing crazy spectacular by any means; their campfire lattes are absolutely delicious! On the sweet end but still, delicious nonetheless! They have one item on the menu that's gluten free and it is their chocolate brownie--decadent! On the regular side they have plenty of toast options ???? The decor is simple white with various colourful hipster-y paintings and fake ivy plants lining the wall. Little nooks and areas of seating, seating is scarce.

By far my favourite coffeeshop in the neighbourhood. The owners are two brothers who are passionate not only about making delicious coffee but more importantly about great customer service. Versus Coffee is one of my favourite cafes in the financial district. The space here is not huge but just enough with patios outside. They offer really creative lattes that are "gramworthy" but some people might find it a little pricey because they taste like regular lattes. I would recommend Versus Coffee to those looking for some space with good vibes to study in or catch up with friends/colleagues over coffee. I'll be coming back to try some of their pastries!

I love the patio at Versus in the spring and summer. You sit down and the sun shines down on you while you are enjoying one of their delicious coffees. They also allow you to throw an alcoholic shot into your coffee, something I wish others cafes offered.
