Maniac Coffee easily fights for my #1 favourite coffee spot in the city for both quality and atmosphere (competing only with Jimmy's Coffee within Kensington Market). One of the best mocha's I've had to date and a quaint, peaceful atmosphere within for working. Also, the 5' backlit acorn logo is pretty awesome.

Great spot. They do drip coffee, which seems to be harder and harder to find these days. The owner Tony is a really nice guy, remembers everyone. The baked goods are on another level and made in house. The croissant is the best croissant I have ever had. It’s so good I haven’t tried anything else yet but I hear it’s all great.

Had a cappuccino and a mocha. First about the Mocha. It just tasted like chocolate syrup. Because that's what they used, a lot of it. Cappuccino was served way too hot, and I don't know which beans they used, but it had that burnt taste. These guys sell some of the best beans you can find in the city, but the coffee made in the cafe doesn't meet the same standard.

It looks so good inside. A lot of seating and a cute little window area at the front. Their Kyoto Smoke tea latte is my favourite, and it is not too sweet. The barista was very kind and genuine. One of my favourite coffee shops around there.

The coffee was decent not great. It was a busy place but music was loud to have conversation. With the type of table and setup it seemed like a good place to do work on a laptop but I was informed no Wi-Fi was provided. No food was eaten but looked like there was a few nice light options.

Staff were very friendly. I wasn't crazy about the quinoa and bean salad I ordered. Had a very dim atmosphere in regards to lighting. I also found that the place where staff prepare sandwiches and soups is not completely behind counter and blocked from customer access if someone is trying to get to the tables in the back. Manic Coffee is my go-to coffee spot in the Kensington area, with the best espresso offerings and a decent selection of beans. They generally cater to espresso roasts for the beans that they sell, however some of the time that I've been in they've had stuff from Intelligentsia that I've never seen anywhere else in Toronto. It is often crowded and finding a seat can be difficult, however service had always been good and it's perfect if you're getting something to go. There are lots of places nearby to enjoy your coffee outside of you can't find somewhere inside.

Latte was good, and the ambience was fine... It's just that the place didn't have Wi-Fi... That's really only reason why I gave four stars; now I know some coffee shops don't have Wi-Fi to encourage the experience of drinking coffee, talking with people, and basically not relying on technology so much (totally respect that). But given my situation at the time, wish they had it. Plus, they need more areas with outlets (but again, that might sort of tie in with no Wi-Fi topic).

Manic used to be 5 stars - they used really good beans and made amazing espresso based drinks. I am not sure if they switched owners but in the past year or two, they switched their beans to Social which in my opinion are way poorer quality and taste bitter and without body. Their baked goods are still really good.

Long known for excellent coffee! They have also recently started offering a great lunch deal - $7.50+tax for really good sandwiches and either soup or salad. Only negative note - they don't have wifi.

This has always been the best coffee in Toronto (IMHO); but,recently, they started offering lunch combos of sandwich+salad or sandwich+soup that are absolutely fabulous. But what makes these deals almost impossible to resist is their price:~8$ Add to that the option of getting an awesome macchiato after lunch and there you have it: one of the best lunch deal in TO. Update from July 2017: They have a new batch of gelato flavors that are very compelling and original. A must-try.

Once upon a time in 2007 this was the vanguard of 3rd wave coffee in Toronto. Back then there was pretty much only Second Cup and Starbucks, or Jet Fuel (so bad!) in Cabbage Town. Today, Manic can't keep up with Te Aro, Mercury, Rooster quality-wise, but get 4 stars mostly for sentimental reasons.

Cute shop! Biggest thing working in this shop's favor is the warm and comfortable decor and great location. My experience at this shop wasn't fabulous, however. Not bad, but not good enough to come back. Pros: The employees are friendly and fast, they're dressed in "casual-professional" attire that fits the atomosphere, and the temperature of the café is comfortable. The ice cream flavors and other food options are creative and artistically presented (I had a single scoop of burnt marshmallow. Delish! A bit on the pricy side though because a "scoop" is little larger than the size of a melon ball). Cons: where are the electric plugs?! They are few and far between. They have plenty of seating so they obviously know that people will want to use their shop to sit and work while sipping their coffee, but, how are you supposed to write a paper or browse social media if your devices are all dead? The "regular" drip coffee was $2.14 CAD and was pretty small in size. Additionally, my cup was full of burned coffee. When was it brewed? Who knows! But it had that metallic taste of coffee that's sat in the pot for too long at too high of a temperature. All in all, not a terrible experience but also not one to write home about. It looked so nice from the outside but was ultimately exceedingly disappointing. I could have made better coffee at home with corner store bought Maxwell House grinds.

College st. and Kensington are known to be littered with unique coffee shops but Manic seems to always rise above the rest for quality and atmosphere. Excellent drip and cappuccinos if you need an early morning pick me up. Stop by and try the ham and cheese croissant if you are in the neighborhood.
