REVIEWS OF Taste - A Place For Coffee IN Oak Bay

Best cafe for celiacs! The owner is very knowledgable about gluten cross-contamination. The food is very tasty and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. There are ample books to read on the bookshelf. My fave gluten free treats are the chickpea masala roll and the peanut butter cookie. If you're looking for a meal, the deluxe gluten free breakfast sandwich is a must.

Yummiest gf Brie Sandwich in town!!! (It’s called the “Veggie Breakfast Sandwich”)...Huge slice of melty brie, fluffy gf bread, spinach, mayo, etc. So good. The music has room for improvement. (Mostly top 40s radio/ Jack Johnson, which feels like a shopping mall rather than a cozy cafe) Furniture is really lovely.

(Translated) The bread is delicious and the flowers at the entrance are good (Original) 빵이 맛있고 , 입구의 꽃도 좋아요

Taste cafe serves the best tasting coffee I've had in Victoria. It is always rich, smooth, and aromatic with a cocoa finish. The staff and snacks are excellent too; I'm lucky to live in the same neighborhood :)

Kim Timothy

Gorgeous, homey, modern environment. Exceptional staff. Bold coffee. Delicious treats. Whether for personal or for business, Taste is the best place to be.

I was here a year ago and I was treated like trash by the owner. If the English woman still owns it, she kicked me out for studying for too long... in a cafe... near a university... despite there being plenty of seating... even though I made sure to spend a minimum of $5/h, the average ticket of a standard cafe. Bad move in a university city, when literally any cafe will let you sit there all day. No matter what, there is no need to humiliate your customers.

I love this coffee shop! A real gem. It's a great place to meet and has delicious food to boot. You can often find me snuggling into the cushions with a hot drink in hand and warm sunshine on my shoulders from their enormous windows. When my daughter is with me, she loves to look through the books and play with the toys set aside especially for kids.

Ernie Urdal

Nice neighbourhood coffee shop, outdoor seating, lots of snacks, friendly staff, easy and close free parking always with vacancy. Communal book shelf/library available.

Callum McDonald

Location is good. Owner is always curt, bordering on rude. I ask if they make a decaf matcha, he says no, "Matcha is tea, it has caffeine." Buddy, what have I been drinking every night if there are no decaf teas?

Jessie

Really nice and plenty of options! Wish they stayed open a BIT longer though.

Hank Kao

Good food, good service.

Penny Holt

Please be advised that the lovely Val sold the place in June 2017 so I advise reading only reviews from that time on. This my local coffee haunt. Mostly because you just can't help like the lovely Yorkshire lady who owns the place. You are always sitting down with friends here. Like the world's best common room. If you are an introvert, and could do without the chat, there are lots of books for patrons to read. The biggest draw though, is that this is the place to be if you are gluten-free. Baked goods are made daily on the premises with gluten-free ingredients.

Marie

Super delicious soup!! - Roasted pepper with chickpeas. It’s not easy to find vegan, rich and tasty food :)

Katy Emanuel

Great coffee and we really enjoyed our breakfast we had. Appreciated the fact that there is a separate prep area for gluten free.to prevent cross contamination. Staff were friendly.

I had a BLT on gluten free bread here, a GF peanut butter crunch bar, and a large americano. The sandwich was the best one I've ever had, and I've been eating gluten free sandwiches for like 8 years. The bread was toasted light, not crumbly, not mungy tasting, and perfect amount of mayo/butter, perfectly cooked thick bacon and crisp lettuce and tomato. It was such a surprise that I could eat something good instead of an old, dry, saran-wrapped dwarf GF rock-hard muffin that most coffee shops have as a very expensive GF selection. The peanut butter crisp bar thing was also really light and delicious and the coffee was great!!!! They also had a giant selection of regular and gf bakery items and breakfast sandwiches and really something for everyone. Peaceful atmosphere. Lots of books. Loved it. Definitely worth a visit. <3

Coffee shop . Pricey sweets . Average litte shop .

Michael Hsieh

A nice and friendly place to meet my clients.

Sue Maitland

The owner Val bakes delicious gluten free goodies and always make you feel welcome. The coffee is delicious too, without that burnt taste that some of the bigger coffee shop chains sometimes seem to have. The library is another special feature of this one-of-a-kind coffee shop. Check it out and it will soon become your favourite place to be for gluten free and for delicious coffee and a warm welcome.

Paul Lalonde

Great breakfast sandwich

Don Bailey

Best soup in town!

Elisabeth Hazell

They serve Drumroaster Coffee! My fave. Nice casual spot with a good range of seating inside and out.

Addison Dale

i was so excited to try this place, as the reviews were positive and they had gluten free options! we were super disappointed though ???? everything is over priced, the food was very basic and the lattes could be made at home better. there is really nothing special about the drinks or food. so, so sad!

Hannah Reiter

Rude to you if they think you are a student at the local high school.

Rory L Keewatin R (Rory)

Charming neighbourhood cafe.

I have been a customer of Taste from the time they opened. Since the recent change in ownership a rigid gluten free protocol is no longer being followed. E.G. Today in the glass case they have unwrapped Gluten containing food adjacent to unwrapped 'gluten free' food. The gluten food is on the rack above 'gluten free' food. Picky - yes; those that care will understand and take heed of the increased risk of cross contamination.

Paola

I was just here minutes ago. The owner was rude and didn't even bother to great me at all. I asked for an iced matcha latte with almond milk and all I got was powder not even mixed and he put whole milk in it which I can't have. The cookies and food were terrible and overpriced. Will not be returning.

Ralph David Lindberg

Great Soup, and coffee, relaxing atmosphere

nmanhas

Great, one of, if not the only shop serving drumroasters coffee locally here in the greater Victoria area.

K P (kpower17)

Louise Gobert

Yummy

Dan Willis

Sam is always so cheerful

Ian Clarkson

I arrived five minutes after opening and said “Hello!” I was the only customer at the time. The employee mumbled a response and then went about doing small tasks. I chose something off the menu and waited to give my order while the employee continued to ignore me. I waited around for the person to ask what I wanted or at least say “I’ll be with you in a minute!”, but eventually I just turned around and walked out. Have never been here and just wanted a nice morning coffee. Won’t be back.

Kelly Pitman

Best gluten free snacks and coffee.

Chris Eve

Great coffee. Great goodies too - both gluten free and regular.

derrick thompson

Tastety and delishish

Gluten Free are my favourite for any place in town! Beautiful setting, big open windows with lots of natural light, giant bookshelf you can borrow books to read while you visit and bookmark your place with your name for the next visit. Comfortable seating. Many delicious Gluten-free options for food and desert, veggie breakfast sandwich with a big chuck of brie yum also has had a few new options added to the menu lately, like salads and a seasonal favourite Pumpkin Spice Lattes! OH and The Coz cake is to die for. Love this place!

ian waller

RetepIII Sven

Great for vegetarian options

SR B

Lovely little place.... solid music, but quiet enough that conversations can be heard..... books, excellent choice of tables as well as lighter/dimmer spaces. Lovely proprietor and delectable snacks.

Devin Singleton

Asked them to add spinach on my panini and they were rude and laughed at me. Not a good experience.

Ariana Chaster

Excellently crafted lattes, a delightful collection of baked goods, superb sandwiches and a truly lovely, quiet atmosphere make this my favourite cafe.

Joanne Gwynne
