Great coffee and lots of delicious looking baked goods. A good place to stop before or after hiking the North Head Trail.

What a great place to go. Right on signal hill they serve many great treats alcohol included I had an oat cake with chocolate chips in it and a homemade energy bar both were delicious. It is within walking distance to George street. They even have love music on the weekends check them out you wont be disappointed.

Lisa Letto

Colin Ash

Samantha Clarke

Great desserts! The cheesecake is made in-house and is amazing!!! Try it!!

Diane Hart

The food is amazing! I had a chicken sandwich and a brownie. It didn't look like anything special, but you could taste that it was made with real quality ingredients.

Jessica vb

Wonderful coffee, views, and food. This place is a total gem and a great place to stop for something on a walk around the battety/signal hill. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that if you are a larger person then the bar chairs for the counter seating are rather small; I am a larger but not obese person and I struggled to sit comfortably in them. That is quite embarrassing to experience.

Luke White

The cutest little cafe at the foot of signal hill. It had incredibly charming staff, a nice warm and cozy vibe, and the coffee and scones were actually really decent and well worth the price.

Samantha Clarke

Great layout inside and a pleasurable experience having coffee and delicious food outside. Great service, overall a wonderful experience.

Daryl Harris, AMP

Best latte I've ever had! Update: 4 years later, still the best latte I've ever had. Also, try the chicken pesto sandwich. It's perfect!

Debcar Jackson

Lovely place, friendly staff and delicious scones with chai tea. Would I visit again. You bet!

Mireille Eagan

Enjoyed a cold brew coffee on walk to Battery.

Tom Hawboldt

Great little place and the downstairs was a nice little surprise. Decent selection of local beers and great range of coffees and cookies. The servers were very polite and helpful as well!

Patrick Martin

Fantastic coffee and a ton of homemade snacks to choose from. Very in touch with the community and has a outside doggy dish for dogs to drink from. Staff is super friendly and they even have live music sometimes. Wish they were open year round (seasonal)

Kate Steneker

Nice breakfast and coffee shop. Friendly personel and good food and coffee. Prices acceptable. Try it.

Luis Fonseca

It’s a cool little spot that’s a perfect stopover before heading to admire the views at Signal Hill I only got a coffee which was fine (nothing amazing though), but saw others get sandwiches which looked really good Maybe they were just unusually busy when I went, but even just for the coffee it took 10ish mins for it to be prepared

maude parent

Great desserts! The cheesecake is made in-house and is amazing!!! Try it!!

Jason Vorhees

Great service and prices. There was great seating for single people too, which I've found is not very common. It was nice to comfortably sit by myself.

Aaron Cat

BEST view of the Harbour in the whole city. Great place to work from. Vegan drinks (soy/oat cappuccino). Good wifi. A lot of space. Probably the best coffee shop in all of Newfoundland.

Alex Hartery

Actually some of the nicer food in the city. Very pleasantly surprised, as I had never heard about the spot before

Justin Pittman

At the foot of Signal Hill. A great atmosphere and great coffee and treats

Peter Lysgaard Jensen

Small cozy setting. Great local feel. Wide selection of coffees and expressos. The expresso is slightly on the soft side. We had their signature homemade brownie as well. Well textured and not too sweet. Balanced very well with the coffee. Also had a selection on homemade fresh sandwiches and pastries.

David Llewelyn

Nice cozy little cafe. Service was quick and friendly. Soup was delicious!! Would like to go back for coffee and cheesecake ❤

Liz Fagan

I was happy to be able to check this place out on one of their last days of the season! By far the best coffee I have had in St. John's. I ordered a cappuccino and it was delicious throughout. Happy that a place in town serves Detour. The building itself is beautiful with a walk-up window great for tourists who are walking by to check out the Signal Hill area.

Mauricio Rincon C

After a morning spent exploring Signal Hill, this cafe hit the spot! The staff are all so friendly, made the experience so very satisfying (the grilled cheese was pretty good too!!!)

Aidan Gillard

Cozy place and delicious sandwiches.

Allison Jones

Parking was bad. Small cafe, there was much of a veiw and it was kind of pricey but it was a good time until we found hair in the baked goods. Ruined the time, deffinetly will not go again

Steven Boyd

Great coffee! Nice service too!

Ibrahim Chehadi

I love this place! Great spot for a hot drink, desert or lunch. Everything tastes delicious and its close to signal hill :)

Elizabeth Horodnyk

Perfect for a sunny day! The small laid-back cafe makes a lovely contrast to the undefined rhythm of the Signal Hill intersection. The attention to detail on the menu with locally made products and a variety of items for all diet selections make it a go to for anyone. The first but certainly not last time I'll be sipping a cold brew this summer.

Huy Bui

I like the convenience of this cafe, which is within walking distance to the entrance of the North Head Trail, which is an awesome trail that takes you around the cliff and up to Signal Hill. The cafe seems to be always busy, probably due to its location. It was quite busy on both times when I dropped by. Food and drinks are served reasonably fast. I enjoyed the capuchino, rhubarb lemonade and sandwich/soup combos on both of my visits.

Mary Robinson

Super cosy place with great food! They have gluten free options!

Alex Anderton

Nice breakfast and coffee shop. Friendly personel and good food and coffee. Prices acceptable. Try it.

Because its on the way to Signal Hill, it seems to be a gathering point for many. Food and coffee are very good, and staff are attentive. Good baristas!

Wiggert VH

Excellent coffee. Very popular and sometimes there are extended waits in a line up. However, it is worth it.

Dana Carter

Good over all. A bit close quarters in the bottom section, on the left side alcove.

Jerome Mitchell

Nice spot close to some of St John's historic sites, serving good coffee (Detour, out of Hamilton, ON) and baked goods. Acoustic music in the evenings in the back room.

Judee Doyle

Great spot to stop before or after taking a walk up to signal Hill. Has a massive selection of coffee!

George Ayoub

One of the best places to have an enjoyable conversation. Good prices and helpful staff.

Mayra Sanchez

Nice little cafe, the Detour Brownie was really good!

James Dwyer

Cute little spot. Yummy baked goods. Great spot to chat with the locals.

Norman Potter

No need for Starbuck's here. The Battery Cafe checks all the boxes. A great laid back local vibe, a perfect cup of coffee and a great scone. I hear the soup is good too so we will have to come back!

Cindy Butt

I went all the way to Newfoundland and enjoyed Burlington's own Detour coffee down the hill from our Air&B at the cozy nook of Battery Cafe. Friendly staff shared where and when to find the best local entertainment. Never felt rushed even at their closing hour.

Cecile Gough

What a perfect neighborhood cafe! The baked goods are tasty, as is the coffee. This was a great stop in the morning before we went site seeing.

Mary Pires

Great coffee, super nice atmosphere. They also serve nice beer, wine too! And a good selection of treats. Little outdoor seating area which is great for nice weather and footsteps from Signal Hill trail! Great spot

Izzy Grace

Awesome selection of fresh pastries, bagels, and sandwiches for breakfast. They do get very busy in the mornings, so be prepared for a short wait! I ordered porridge with dairy-free milk and they were super accommodating, which I was thrilled about and our order took about 20 minutes from start to finish. They have a small outdoor seating area and a handful of tables and chairs indoors as well.

duane piercey

Amazing espresso. Nice staff. Try the iced coffee! Awesome location. Nice atmosphere! Check out my pictures!

Adam Smiley

Lovely outdoor seating, good coffee, great view of the harbor. A great place to stop on a walk or ride

Danielle Browne

Good coffee and a great selection of food and baked goods, including vegetarian and vegan options. A little squishy even with the expanded space, but welcoming. The outdoor window for people with dogs is a nice touch.

Shauna Lynch

Very friendly staff and the food was delicious. The barista even did a little heart in my mom's latte wich was cute and awesome. Great for a quick bite to eat. They also serve beer and wine as well as Bailey's shots when I was there. Very cool place

The perfect place to recover after hiking the North Head trail! Also great at any yime for coffee, tea, wine, beer, excellent food, and friendly people. It's right on the corner of Battery road and right before Signal Hill Road. There's even a walk up window if you're on the go or walking your dog.

Meghan S

I have only visited this place a couple of times but I have enjoyed it both times. It is comfortable, the staff are helpful, the food is good and the drink were hot. The location was ideal for me at the time and I will bring friends there if the situation is ideal for it. It is always nice to find such little treasures when I travel around the city.

Carby Sum

Excellent staff, friendly service. Vegan and gluten-free food options ! Also a great venue for performers !

Billy Shea

Best coffee I've had in Newfoundland! Recommend to everyone

Drake

Friendly staff and a great little coffee shop. A great place to stop.

It is shocking how the barista training gets postponed indefinitely and now they are not responding to inquires about scheduling for the training at all. The training is priced at $75 and once you bought it, you are stuck with a useless piece of paper, no training was offered at anytime what so ever, no effort was made to compensate for your months of waiting, and of course no refund. This is fraud, buyers beware!

Charlos Derin

I was in last month and I asked the barista if they had any cold brew in stock which she rudely replied "Not this time of year". I then asked for a macchiato and she again rudely responded "Do you even know what this? This isn't like Starbucks". I told her I was aware of what the drink was & it was what I wanted. I paid for my drink/food & she promptly walked away without saying anything. Will not be back again or recommending to anyone anytime soon.

Irtaza Tahir

Folks, with great coffee comes time for an upgrade to keep customers happy. It’s obvious that the Battery has acquired a good rep, so much so that the waiting time for a coffee is crazy long. Perhaps a bigger espresso machine would be a good investment?

Stella Pelley

First time here, lunch time coffee stop on motorcycle. Ordered through the walk up window and ate out side. Easy to see they have their regulars, as people were pulling up in car and on foot the whole while there. Never ventured inside though.

Ford Adams

Busy, free wifi, so often hard to get a seat, as people tend to linger on their devices.

Jose CM

The best coffee/espresso I’ve had in Newfoundland! The staff were friendly and more than willing to answer any questions I had, as well as give home brewing tips! Highly recommended

Melanie Hurley

(Okay I am editing this just to remove the hilarious autocorrect error. Is it really an error if it's a correction?!? In any case the goods are baked. With a B. Never seen any nudity here at all.) Love this place! Great coffee, incredible baked goods and sandwiches, pleasant staff, great ambience.

Nick Angiers

Love the atmosphere, my favourite coffee in town. The service was more then amazing super friendly.... love love love!!!

Joelle Frigault

Had lunch here. It was lovely after a walk around Signal Hill.

Aurelio Ferrazzano

Really enjoyed the Battery Cafe. More in line with cafes in North America than most places in St. John's. Good coffee, good pastries, barista with an attitude and good lighting.

Brenda D

Beautiful, lovely café. Staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is charming and full of art. The coffee is SO tasty. Go check it out!

Kate Hounsell

It took close to an hour to get 2 Soup and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. One sandwich was unbelievably flat, the other was half almost burned and half not toasted at all. We also ordered 2 coffee which we did not receive, but after waiting so long already we didn't even bother trying to get them.

Austin Mccabe

Great coffee if you don't mind the wait

David Cox

Found this place while walking to the Johnson Geo Centre. The havarti sourdough grilled cheese was so good, the bread was crispy and the cheese was so melty and stringy. The hot chocolate was super satisfying and the coffee infused brownie was out of this WORLD!! Definitely highly recommend. ????????

Brad Klucowicz

A friendly and appealing coffee shop that had a great vibe to it. The baked goods were delicious and the latte art was really neat! Excellent customer service.

Mary Elizabeth Baldwin

Awesome place to get a cup of Joe great people great location at the bottom of Signal Hill great breakfast sandwich what more can I say a must stop if your coffee lover

Andrew Reynolds

Waited 45 minutes for a breakfast sandwich and they didn’t give me a full refund when I asked for one.

Janet or Darrell Newediuk

Sweet, cozy little cafe. Often has live music. My friend goes there for the Flat Whites, which she says is the best in town. I enjoy making my tea into a latte.

Emmie Penney

I love the location, the staff are friendly and polite. I recommend the grilled cheese sandwich ( I want to call it joy in one bite????)after a cold beer or with your delicious coffee!☕️????????

Lauren Holwell

They have some delicious iced coffee and a very nice and cozy outdoor patio. Perfect combinations for these summer days. I also really enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches.

Nikolay Komissarov

Great little coffee shop with delicious baked goods and coffee. Super friendly staff

Clive Robb

Best coffee in St. John’s in our opinion. Very nice small café, with great homemade sandwiches and other baked goods. If you plan on walking signal here, take a stop at this café before or after the trip! So worth it.

Brendan Mclean

Cute place to just have a cup of coffee and catch up with friends

When looking for a quaint place to sit and enjoy a coffe/tea or a beer then take the time to check this venue. There is a modest menu for breakfast, lunch or supper (breakfast burrito and baggle were great), a selection of muffins etc and deserts combined with a cozy environment made for a great dining. The cafeteria style ordering was efficient and friendly, definitely on our call back list.

Excellent place. I whish they had more space to sit. But they make great coffee.

samia islam

Great coffee and scone. Owners have a great sense of humour and one of the best views in the city. Will be back next visit!

Jean Graham

Great place to have a coffee on Sundays. Good service quiet social environment.

Gerry Peters

We were there on a Tuesday afternoon for the "Kitchen Party". The music was so entertaining, the kids in the crowd were up and dancing, and we were all clapping and stomping along - when we weren't filling our mouths with the delicious food we bought in the cafe. Great job! Thanks

ID McBeath

Fast and good. Coffee is absolutely beautiful.

Jim

Always a pleasant experience...great coffee, great food/baked goods & awesome service.
