This Coffee Shop is classified in the category of Bakery.
I eat here a lot. Love the food, staff and atmosphere. I’m never disappointed.
They open fairly late for a bakery, but coming there in the evening will leave you empty-handed; I actually popped in, saw there was nothing, and then returned the next morning for some nice, fresh cinnamon buns and it was worth it! -- "Mimi's Cake Tour"
NOT GLUTEN FREE - I found this restaurant online as a gluten free resto.... We walked in and couldn't figure out if there was table service or where the restaurant started and cafe ended. We asked an employee if there was anything a celiac could eat and he and another employee told me no. Perhaps the food is good however I'm giving it a low review for advertising offering food for celiacs when they don't.
Loved the croissant breakfast sandwich. My wife loved her kale salad and coffee. My kid took apart a macaron and then stuffed his face with the pieces. Nice vibe.
Great place, if not a little confusing. We arrived in St. John's and our guide brought us here to get something for a picnic at Cape Spear. I would highly recommend anything. It was great picnic food. The lineup and purchase can be a little confusing to the uninitiated, but the staff does a great job of getting you your order no matter where you wander off to.
The bread pudding is worth the trip to Rocket Bakery alone. The friendly staff and great coffee is just bonus.
Love the baked goods here and the amazing vibe.
Great atmosphere and lovely staff. Always bustling with people. Can be a bit tricky to find a seat sometimes
Really like the focaccia and cappuccino. Great cheesecake! Just a bit overpriced.
Wanted to really love this place as seems to have high ratings. Disappointed. I was standing at the bakery area and the server told me she would be right back to me after helping another customer. She forgot I was there so I had to get her attention again. Bought cowboy, ginger molasses and caramel pecan cookies. They were meh. Also a cinnamon roll (dry) and asked for a salted caramel heart chocolate. Was given a salted nut cluster instead. Ordered lemonade and creamy iced espresso drink. Given hot tea instead. Definitely confused service. Blasé to fix mistakes.
Excellent coffee, sweet treats and loads of healthy lunch options. Love going to the Rocket to people watch as well.
Amazing fish cakes and pastries
Stopped in on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed. Tried the coffee, fish cakes, short bread cookies and bread pudding- all were amazing! Kelly, the owner, was great and took time to sit and chat with myself and girlfriend. Overall great experience!
Wonderful cafe but no dedicated parking can make visiting a challenge
Coffee and desserts are amazing. Loved this place. Friendly people, I guess that’s how they are in Newfoundland.
One of the few places in St John's with decent coffee
Best bakery in Newfoundland! They delivered this pie for my cousin's 50th birthday today, even sang to him!! He was so surprised!! They made it so easy to arrange, I'll have to visit them when I'm home. Thank you Kate!
Great homey feel, good coffee and great breakfast burrito! Would recommend.
Great place, nice service. My personal favorite is the bread pudding.
Great place. Always friendly and the food is great! Love the atmosphere.
We each had a latte. We bought a cinnamon roll and bread pudding. All was very good.
Delicious food with lots of vegan and gluten free options. Good lattes!
The pulled pork turnover was half decent albeit cold on the inside. The chicken burrito was tasteless. Way overpriced for a self serve - grab a seat if you can cafeteria type setting.
My favorite coffee shop in St. John's. Also make excellent lunches and baked goods. The cinnamon roll is my favorite.
Cute spot to sit down with a drink and pastry. Appreciate that they were open early in the morning!
Great food. Lots of choices. Good coffee. Friendly layout.
Great ????????????, awesome ☕????☕, gorgeous girls ????????????, chilled out vibe ✌????????????????
Great atmosphere... Great food.... Great place to hang out!!!! Very cool vibe.
Great croissant breakfast sandwich, but the espresso machine needs a cleaning. Amazing ambiance and A1 service.
It's healthy food in comparison to all the fried food they eat here. But it still lacks that palatal kick that forces a reactionary response of wow that's pretty good. However the atmosphere makes up for the food. I'd just go for coffee and cake next time. Not a meal.
Fun and quirky spot with lots of interesting decor. A great spot to grab something to eat.
A nice place to visit. Great food & cozy atmosphere
Awesome atmosphere and super friendly staff! Everything is made in house and selection is great!
very good food but it gets very busy at peak times, so plan ahead
One of the best cafes. Creative, local, fresh. Music, events, bathrooms upstairs. Lots of seating although gets busy. Outdoors seating too. Yummy coffee, awesome salads and cool soft drinks. Wicked pastries.
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! From the decor to the food to the staff. The staff was so welcoming and patient as we were 6 people who had a lot of questions. I had the quinoa salad and the herb and sweet potato soup. Everything was so delicious AND THEY HAVE VEGAN OPTIONS! I highly recommend this place to everyone!
Great food, great coffee and nice atmosphere, and the pastry case is to die for. Will definitely come here every time I'm in St John's.
Great atmosphere, very friendly staff and the best coffee. Recommend.
Absolutely love rocket and its employees. The warm, cosy atmosphere never fails to brighten up the overcast days in St John's. I highly recommend the fish cakes, macarons, pain au chocolat, and shortbread cookies. Never a dull moment in here. :)
Cozy friendly atmosphere. Local community events regularly. Very friendly staff. Delicious homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts.
Dirty floors in the main dining areas and behind the counters does not bode well for what the kitchen looks like. Stale past due products .
Awesome coffee! Awesome atmosphere! Awesome croissandwich! So glad we found this place on our trip to the rock :)
Love the breakfast sandwich. Great coffee.
Always friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great vibe and fabulous food! The black bean burrito is so tasty and filling and the salsa that is served with it is one of the tastiest with the cilantro.
Busy and noisy on Saturday mornings. Staff are happy and friendly. We had pastries and coffee. The pastries were lovely including a partridgeberry scone, a cinnimon bun and a raison teabiscuit. All three pastries were perfectly fresh, soft and tasty. There was a long line waiting for our cappuchino and espresso. They were delicious and pretty too -but next time I would just have a dark roast and skip the line. The dark roast was very good.
Amazing and famous bakery and a coffee shop. The only thing I'd like to suggest is to work a little bit on the teste of a regular coffee. But definitely I will vist this place again! Good atmosphere to meet friends or to work.
Nice selection of freshly baked goods and remade meals. Friendly staff. Has a very "hipster" vibe to the whole place. Reminds me of a lot of bakeries in Vancouver. If you're into that, it's a great place.
Delishis food and beverages. Prices are just above average but well worth the occasional breakfast or lunch!
Pretty solid bakery. Maybe didn't *quite* live up to the hype we heard in advance, but still good food. The fish cakes were the bomb, but the cronut was better enjoyed with your eyes than your mouth.
Nice quick meal. Really enjoyed the fish cakes
Hard not to rate this place 5 stars, they are a community service in St. John’s. Great coffee and treats make this place a must in the city
I come here often the food and pastries are always fresh and delicious. The staff is super awesome and very patient when I can't choose what I want to eat out their large selection, that includes vegetarian options. Also the best cappuccino in town
I really like this place. Great food, great selection. Friendly staff.
What a fun place to linger with a geat cup of coffee and tasty , tantilizing delicacies. Sit in the big window and watch St. John's life roll past. Just a quaint, fun and lively place to be to while away the day.
Great baked good. A little warm inside the restaurant.
Such a lovely place! The owner was so friendly. One of the best London fogs I've ever had! Great place.
Excellent. Had Pain au chocolate to go was fantastic. Staff was great! Very happy environment
Great coffee. Service was nice. Lovely assortment of small handmade gifts, pastries and such. Great find!
Great tasty good, fair market value prices. Helpful staff. They supply Alt hotel with pastries which you can recognize by their distinctive colouring and shape.
Favourite cafe and bakery in St. John's with great coffee, lattes, espresso, cookies, and lunches. The sourdough bread is also amazing.
Great drinks, amazing beans, and all natural flavors!
Great spot for a quick lunch!
Great affordable breakfast place.
Pretty good little coffee shop and bakery. Lots of sitting room and nice staff. They can get pretty busy but they stay pretty organized with order numbers. They make a fantastic Americano.
Really great food but a bit overpriced. The soup is fantastic.
Owner saw us looking confused and was very kind. Coffee was great, food was very good. A welcome spot to warm up or relax down.
Great bakery and cafe. Fish cakes are top notch and great way to start the day. Pain Au chcocolat was also excellent. Coffee pretty good, staff wonderful. Would recommend.
Great variety of food. Sandwiches, salad, cakes, cookies, coffee. We tried a couple of interesting flavoured cookies and they were delicious. Separate room with tables for eating. Pretty hipster atmosphere.
Must try the fish cakes! So good and no flour. Other great vegan and gluten free treats. Great dark roast coffee as well.
Excellent coffee shop and lots of cool local items! Picked up Tonic syrup for gin and Ginger Rose syrup for Bourbon from Third Place Cocktail Co here. Great products. And the coffee at Rocket is awesome as well.
I love Rocket Bakery. Love their bakery products. Their flakies and croissants are sooo goood. Really like the coffee and teas they make. Great staff ❤️ Always clean and amazing place to take your favorite bread. I visit the Churchill Sq. the most.
Good food and a nice atmosphere. The staff was very friendly. Simple place to grab something quick and light to eat.
First impression wasn’t great. Staff taking my order somehow didn’t relay my coffee order to the barista, and didn’t seem to want to explain what some of the pastries were. Partridgeberry scone was more like bread in texture than scone. Coffee was ok. Nice environment for sitting down though!
What a lovely store. Lots of fresh and unique items, fresh brewed coffee and a great selection of food for eat in or take out. Couldn't believe that they were open and busy at 8 am on a Sunday!
Neat place, excellent cinnamon bun and tea biscuit. But, I was looking forward to a proper coffe and the young barista made a not-hot, no foam, painfully slow cappuccino. Maybe she just needs more training but that was a slow bad coffee.
Super nice place, great food and local character!
Great spot, good food, always busy, left off a star because it is on the pricey side for a cafe.
Masala chai tea and balistic brownee make a realy good feel in winter evening.
The Benhi Mi sandwich is incredible! Great french press coffee. Get dessert, too!
great selection. high quality menu
Staff is not valued or treated respectfully, overpriced sandwiches
We arrived early with our two young kids and had our choice of two high chairs. There was a change table, too. The French press was strong and delicious. The quiche was creamy, and the croissant pleased my toddler. I’d go again for sure.
be sure to try their amazing chocolate chip cookie with pecans ....it's exquisite !
This is a quaint and popular location located in downtown St. John's. It's a bit expensive but a great atmosphere and everything is tasty. I highly recommend this place :D
I had the pleasure of booking the third floor of the Rocket for my wedding. I loved the old St. John's rustic vibe that the building portrays. Exposed brick walls and pretty Edison lights. Planning this wedding from Ontario was much easier than expected as Sophie made everything so smooth for us. She was kind and helpful. The food here was delicious, full of flavor and plentiful! My guests are still talking about the food! I am so thankful we had our reception here and the staff were excellent!
Great coffee, nice people, cute setting!
Excellent and helpful staff and delicious food
They have many options, good for breakfast or lunch. Food is great. Seating is a bit crowded.
Nice cafe for coffee or lunch. Comfortable atmosphere, but slightly over-priced.
The coffee is really good and I like the local options available for purchase. I find the place more expensive than I expect and I'm often shocked whenever I get the bill. Maybe this should tell me I shouldn't buy all those delicious tarts? Nah.
Enjoyed the fresh made sandwiches and desserts. Sat and enjoyed a cup of coffee listening to the live "kitchen party" music
Fantastic food--had the fish cakes and frittata! Had the cold brew coffee and it was excellent. Good price for their beer and food, overall.
Great food, carefully prepared and flavorful. Prompt service. Decent coffee. Lots of seating. Important spot as another live performance venue.
My absolutely favourite place to have lunch. The prices are a little high for the food you’re getting but the quality is great. I always feel like I’m getting real food!
Stopped in to pick up some sandwiches for the road -- pretty tasty, cute atmosphere, but expensive for what we got.
Nice combination of a bakery, sandwich shop, and coffee shop. Lots of space to sit, friendly service, good coffee... What's not to love?
Super-pleasant atmosphere & friendly staff, absolutely delicious bread/sandwiches, fair-trade coffee, etc. Definitely worth it to stop in!
I just had my first snowball from Rocket Bakery. Better than Nan's! #awesome
Good food. Yummy breads cakes cookies...
Great family friendly environment. Cheese cake is delicious. Bathrooms are up a steep flight of stairs not suitable for people with mobility issues.
Superb staff. Amazing baked goods. Local landmark. Great location for functions upstairs. Weddings, etc. Fishcakes are top tier. Delicious soups and fresh coffee. It's got an endless list of delectable foods to choose from.
Good cup of coffee and pastries, but the service and method for ordering is bad. If you have to have a small printed list of instructions at the front door, your system is too complicated ;)
I have to say, the atmosphere is amazing and warm. The food, same compliment. Definitely enjoyed my time and meal.
One of the best. Delicious food, and top notch coffee.
Very accommodating staff and many options for treats. I like that they can check all the ingredients for customers! I loved the atmosphere of the bakery and the sitting area.
Excellent espresso and the baked goods are fantastic. Try the macarons.
Good sandwich and coffee. Kind of a miss on the Greek salad. Too expensive for what it is. ($25 for a ham sandwich and a tiny bowl of salad and a sparkling water... + grabbed a coffee to go so it makes up for a $30 lunch). Staff and owner are lovely.
High quality food that tastes great and is healthy. Their barrista brews excellent and beautiful lattés. I had chicken pot pie with brocoli salad and pecan tart with a decaf latté for desert. Well worth the money.
Favorite place in St. Johns! Cinnamon rolls, chocolate croissants, and soup are delicious. Coffee was a little stale after 6 and the soup came with a really tiny piece of bread but the staff and atmosphere are deadly. There's Team Rocket amd there's Team Fixed- team rocket for the win!
Not as good since they stopped doing custom sandwiches, but good service and ok prices
Nice place. Happy decor and enjoyed a nice latte in a proper mug. $5.
Smells delicious the moment you walk in. Full of many varieties of tasty bread and baked good. Also makes great food for lunch, with some great sandwiches. They also make some great desserts, with my particular favorite being the very tasty, and very dense, bread pudding. Rocket also serves delicious coffee. Their room for eating offers a diverse range of sitting options, from a low table in the window facing the street that requires you to sit cross legged, to an old church pew at a table. Highly recommend eating anything here.
A few vegan options, good food and great ambiance
Excellent home made food. Prices are high, but you quickly forget that after the first bite
Great coffee and cake goods.
Great place for a quick bite or drink. The food is always yummy and it has a laid back atmosphere.
Quaint little bakery and coffee shop. Baristas really know their stuff, and do it well
Such a cool place to chill with your friends and grab a bite to eat!
One of best places for atmosphere in the city to grab a coffee and something sweet with friends. Their Macroons are to die for!
Fantastic chocolate croissant and a good brewed coffee. It was a cold wet day in St John's and the down town Rocket Bakery was a warm cosy haven from the weather.
Amazing fresh food and coffee! Great place.
One of my favorite places in town, fantastic baked goods, great lunches, there's always community events going on there. A delightful go to place to eat downtown.
Great, fresh food at a reasonable price. very friendly staff
cake is very delicious!got my birthday cake there, very nice place!
Excellent bakery options, and some very good teas and coffees. Unique gifts sold here as well. Hot chocolate was disappointing, as it had little flavour.
Excellent freshly made food, and wonderful coffees. The freshly made bread is excellent just on its own, but it is wonderful if brought home and used to dip into a soup. The asian noodles were excellent texture and such, but we found that they weren't well seasoned. Most food could use salt (although that is generally a safer way to make food than too salty), but the asian noodles specifically needed more seasoning. My favourite was with a TSB of peanut butter, and as much sriracha as one is comfortable with.
Great spot one of the only good bakeries left in downtown (if you can't get to Georgetown bakery) great spot for lunch. Don't miss it
Best cinnamon rolls in the city. But be quick, they sell out fast.
Love this place! The new summer menu is lovely. Spicy chicken burrito better than expected.
Great service (except for the middle aged lady making coffee) and coffee/food
Great inclusive space with delicious baked goods, great coffee, and friendly atmosphere
Very pleasant place to stop and have a specialty coffee or a tea and a baked goodie.
Super trendy a St.John's favorite . With fresh baked goods, lunch specials and a great selection of beverages. Rocket bakery has excellent service and quality goods.
A quirky spot with great coffee and amazing Morning Muffins.
I don’t know about anything else, but the raisin tea buns are the best that I’ve had, tasting of delicate fresh butter, not very sweet, slightly dense and moist in texture, and absolutely delicious. The rest of Rocket was tempting, with all its other sweets and baked goods and sandwiches and coffees and souvenir mugs and, adjacent, an quaint eatery. Prices, accordingly, indicated a standard of excellence. Staff were kind and helpful.
Great food, cosy atmosphere and nice people. Little bit waiting time for the coffee, but then again fresh from the machine.
Love the Rocket. Consistently good food. Great staff. Best latte around ❤
Friendly staff! Products are always fresh.
Lattes were served warm (but they did warm it up fro me) The sausage rolls are hearty but bland. Nice local spot.
Best ginger cookies I've ever had!
Great service but I found my croissant quite dry and stale.
Awesome vegan soup complimented the 50's themed place! The baking looks delicious and the knick knacks are cool. Great place to Christmas shop and grab a bite!
The food and coffee is rock solid at Rocket. It's pricey but worth it. It would be five stars if the organization was improved.
The Rocket has a great selection of pastries as well as lunch time items. They have gluten free and vegan options as well. It’s a great place to sit and have a coffee or meet a friend for lunch. They often have musical guests that add a lovely atmosphere.
Great coffee, food is amazing, great atmosphere! All of the staff are very chill. The art work is unique. I love the table and chairs that are mismatched but provide a very homey feeling.
Great espresso & casual atmosphere & awesome food
Fresh made stuff with day old stuff clearly marked and discounted. They make "everything except the tortillas". This place can get super busy so bring a little patience. The barista station was slammed and, all I wanted was a brewed coffee, so I noticed they were a little sluggish getting a second body to assist. We weren't disappointed with anything we put in our mouths from the partridge berry scones to the tourtiere - excellent pie pastry and my better half has me spoiled in that regard.
This place really have some great bakery items. Have been going their for breakfast frequently and have recently tried their Almond Croissants and Cheesecake and I can tell you that they have the most authentic Cheesecake in town. Their Croissants are also good. From a pricing standpoint, I find the place to be on the higher side as compared to other bakeries in town. Their staff is friendly as well.
Good coffee but funky smell.
I stopped here for lunch recently and had a very good sandwich. They seem to have a lot of great food, and I wish I'd tried the bakery. In an area filled with pubs, Rocket seems like a great place to have a decent meal.
Great food. Nice staff. Cool place to socialize over coffees and snacks.
Great food and a nice place to take a friend. Most recently this was the Mount Pearl Location. Sadly Water Street is now gone. It will be missed.
Food is very very tasty but the portions aren't very big for the cost. Cool atmosphere though definitely worth checking out!
We love the fish cakes here, just like my mom's. My husband said it was his favorite place to have coffee in St John's.
Staff and ownership work exceptionally hard for your business. A brilliant piece of downtown St. John's...if every business was as resiliant and innovative as Rocket, St. John's would be a case study for downtown rejuvenation in North America!
Great place to a grab a coffee and a treat. There's plenty of seating, but the place does get pretty busy.
Great Americano, scone and the best damn salted cod fish cake you'll ever eat.
Every time I visit St. John's I need to eat here. The "COD" fish cakes are amazing. The sandwiches, delicious. Coffee is fresh and the staff are quite pleasant. HIGHLY recommended. Try it, you will not be disappointed.
Very good coffee. Pastries are hit or miss, but if you get the good ones, they're really good. I recommend the bread pudding. They also have very good sandwiches, soups, wraps, and salads. Cool sitting area where you can spend time working/reading/chatting with friends, etc.
Fun atmosphere. Food was excellent. Loved the ambience.
Great food and location. Fish cakes are fantastic!
You can get a bit lost finding the right line to queue up on: bakery, food, or coffee. You need to line up to order then hang around and wait, making it a very busy and crowded spot. The food is alright, the coffee is good, the bakery is hit or miss. Once you get out of the crowded serving space, the dining area is quite chill and you can relax with a book or hang with friends.
Amazing food, ambiance and weather (sunny and 3 on Feb 15??)
Focused on local sustainably raised food. Everything tastes wonderful! Not good for gluten free since its primarily a bakery, but there are some things. As well as macarons and a couple of gfree sweet treats, they also make gluten free fish cakes and several types of salad. If you're one of the lucky ones who can eay whatever you want, The Rocket will make you very, very happy!
The food and coffee are amazing and the service was wonderful!
Cute local cafe with lots of options to eat and drink. The pastries are extremely fresh and delicious. Would recommend coming here!
We were received by the owner, and she was absolutely lovely showing us how the system works. The food was wonderful and not pricey at all. Excellent live music as well.
LOVE IT... had the best latte! Food is great.
It was really nice to get out of the house. Had a lovely lunch at Rocket and enjoyed it outside in the sun.
The raspberry Danish was very good. More chocolate in the chocolatine would be better. And the butter croissant ???? was a bit salty.
Funky place that's fun to check out. Food is good enough. Coffee & baled goods are good too.
Lots of baked choices. Love the old store feel. Staff were just ok. Not really helpful but did do their job. Would be nicer to try a little harder.
Great store! Good coffee and awesome bread!! Staff are friendly and helpful for new customers!!! Jilust ask and they are more than happy to help! The store is like a horse shoe for covid so make sure you dont forget your bread or coffee!!! Will be back and highly recommend!!
Friendly staff. Menu has a little bit of everything for everyone. From bread, to hot chocolate, to beer to butter tarts.
Delicious and fun! I went during a trad session.
Great coffee and desserts... Sammie's sound delicious but I haven't had yet.
Great coffee and cinnamon rolls. So much character inside.
Nice atmosphere. I think the turkey soup should be called tomato vegetable, however, as it was 99% vegetables, 1% turkey. I only had one piece of turkey in my soup. Pretty pricey, too.
Great place for breakfast/lunch. Very good coffee, sandwiches, breads and pastries. Nice people
A high-quality bakery situation going on here. Visited twice while exploring St. Johns.
I'm not in the habit of writing reviews but feel compelled to comment on what I see as the short comings of the Rocket. 3 yrs ago I discovered the Rocket while working in downtown St John's and have gone there religiously on every trip to St John's, great coffee, love the food, casual atmosphere and service is good. On this trip I took my wife to the Rocket for a late breakfast thinking it would be a good experience. We placed our order were asked to be seated and our food would be delivered. There were no seats available so I informed the cashier, we were then seated at a table the size of a large dinner plate in the corner of what looks like a stockroom there goes the pleasant atmosphere. Our food arrived my wife had a speciality toast with avacado and it was quite nice, I had the breakfast hash it was poor quality, small quantity and over priced. The dish was mostly potato with a dry over cooked egg on top, the peppers and other veggies listed on the menu were spray on at best, this is not the Rocket I remember. The staff does not seem to be engaged in their jobs or their customers this is not what we experienced at any other business on our trip. The Rocket now seems more like a hang-out with "nobody minding the store" Unfortunately I think the Rocket has become a Dud
Awesome vegan options. I love everything about this cozy place. Warm ,welcoming ,friendly. Casual place to have very tasty homemade treats and lunch. Xo
The food is ok and pretty expensive. I paid nearly $10 for a piece of cake that was extremely sweet. A cake needs to be consistent and fresh not overly powerfully sweet. We also waited a long time to pay for a soda while there was no one in the shop. I'd go back only in case of hunger emergency.
Chic café but we found the price to be $$ for the quality and the service was aloof at best. At least the adjacent space was comfortable, cozy and wifi was available
Is open 365 days a year and serves some of the best baked goods in town. It hosts local and visiting performers fairly regularly, especially during tourist season. The coffee and service is pretty good. The only con about this place is that it can get a little confusing and chaotic when it's really busy and your ordering from 2 different counters.
All the food here is amazing, but the pulled pork turnover was far and away the best.
Really good coffee, pastries, and even better atmosphere!
Lovely authentic coffee and lunch. Worth it.
Surprised there was no fresh breakfast made. Not told if there is a time to come to get it. But 8:45 am was too early. Went home and made our own breakfast, which was delicous.
Great place much selections don't look at the prices they deliver in taste!
Some excellent baked goods, some slightly miss the mark. Great vibes, occasional live music. Friendly staff. I will definitely be going back.
Such a cool place to hang out. Nice mix of big bands/50s-60s vocal jazz, tasty simple foods, good coffee, great atmosphere, friendly staff.
Visited this past weekend. Ordered a chicken blt and a small broccoli salad. Also had a bottled water. A little disappointed with the $22ish price tag. Don't get me wrong, there are other places that cost more but there are others just as good for less. The sandwich was okay. The salad was okay. The atmosphere and location are fantastic. The coffee smelled great. The desserts and pastry looked pretty good. The staff were top notch. Will definately visit again to try something else and update. But 3 stars for now based on food/price.
Great fresh baked goods. Great soup and sandwiches as well. Friendly and fast service and a great atmosphere.
Great downtown coffee shop/bakery. Prepared foods available to take out. A bit pricey.
Always love the cafe here
Historically queer-friendly and accessible! The prices are fantastic for the top-quality baking. Everyone's favourite spot in St. John's!
Would I come back: Yes! Value: Really enjoyed the feel and ambiance of the store. Had a lot of personality and all of the staff were friendly and engaging. The Good: Food (we had the smokey) was tasty. We sat around for a bit using their wifi and saw the restaurant fill up with lots of people going in and out. The Bad: Wasn't "bad" just felt like the coffee could've had a bit more flavour. Bath/Rest/Wash-rooms: Clean (upstairs).
Coffee: delicious. The ideal place to stock up on a yummy, healthy picnic lunch. Nice rustic space too. A gem.
The Rocket is open for business on Water Street with a nice outdoor eating area. We stopped in on a sunny afternoon last week and had Tomato Basil Soup with a coffee and a chocolate croissant for dessert. Great again as usual! Make sure to stop by and support this great local eatery and be sure to follow their social distancing markers and rules.
If you want hipster-crafted delicious baked goods, this is yer place.
Great little place for a cup and a snack. Way more than you would ever want.
Popped in to grab a coffee and sweet with my partner today. The coffee was amazing, and so was the brownie that I got! I was extremely impressed with the price point of everything offered by Rocket Bakery. My partner got a London Fog and …
This was a phenomenal place to have breakfast at! Their breakfast croissants were amazing and also their cinnamon buns. And with a americano to go with it, it was tops.
Great location and decor. Lots of space to enjoy a coffee and a meal.
So many salads, baked goodies, burritos etc. Cutest little bakery with a very vintage feel
Good lunch specials. Great spot of you happen to be down town lunch time.
Prices were decent and location is good for tourists, although very small and cramped. Unfortunately the raspberry "flakey" we bought was just layers of raw pastry dough. The "sinful cinnamon buns" were lacking as well; a dry lump of …
Amazing fish cakes. Really chunky
LOVE the rocket, especially their scones and hummus, talk about WOW
We went to Rocket Bakery because it was recommended by others. Hmmm..., it was hardly worth it. The crab cakes we had were chewy and smelled fishy and the strawberry mint scones were very mediocre. The coffee was very good but when we return to St. John's we will not go back.
The 50s rocket theme of the restaurant is really fun and gives it an informal and fun-loving atmosphere where there is a constant buzz about the place. It's always busy from what we saw and when we went for lunch, we were pleasantly surprised with the fun atmosphere and the great informal service. They have a neat way where you head to the back and grab a numbered card out of a toaster and wait until you are called to give your order. The food is all delicious and there is nothing that isn't just what you'd want to eat. The coffee and the cafe is good and they do things in a simple and honest way. I loved the iced tea which wasn't sweetened. Perfect spot to get a quick bite. Worth checking out for breakfast/lunch if you're in the area.
In the morning - coffee, cinnamon rolls and chocolatines are excellent. But in the evening you are likely to get lower quality service. From 5pm to 9pm they seem like they are in their last 30 mins.
Rocket is a great place to meet up with a pal for coffee. The large seating area is very inviting and you're bound to run into someone you know. The place draws a good mix from students workings, to family outings, to people having a snack on their lunch break. Lunch is great, the baked goods are fairly good. Defiantly a great place to drop into in St. John's.
The quiche and coffee are both very good. Service can get a bit backed up but if you don't mind the wait it's worth it. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.
The morning service is fast, friendly and confident! Fruit salad, quiche and tall coffee make for a delicious breakfast on-the-go! And the tables outside added a good vibe to an already positive experience!
Rocket is the best place in downtown St. John's to go for coffee. The cappuccinos are my go-to. I also highly recommend the breads and croissants.
Nothing fancy, but they know how to make a croissant and other pastries. Free WiFi, coffee bar.
It’s unfortunate that this icon of a place how started going downhill; poor service, really touristy and quite expensive has made this place not what it use to be.
This place is bohemian. The atmosphere is nice, but the staff are slow, possibly stoned. The Baker goods are worth the trip back though.
A very cozy place, with positive atmosphere and really fresh bakery products. Absolutely amazing!
Fantastic food and staff! Highly recommend the bread pudding :)
Always try to get here when I'm in St. John's. Best coffee and pastries in the city
If you are visiting St John's Newfoundland, don't forget to add to your list of "Must do" at least a dessert Rocket Bakery & Fresh Food which is a place you can just sit, relax and enjoy a great coffee, sandwiche or amazing desserts. You can also buy local products in their store or take out if you prefer to eat at your hotel room. We totally recommend!!!
Delicious treats and friendly service.
Excellent coffee and baked goods! So glad we found this place during our travels to St. Johns.
Great variety of baking and desserts. Very cool atmosphere.
Ate our delicious food so fast I couldn't take a picture. Owner greeted us and toured us around. Delicious coffee, great food, lovely atmosphere.
Nice place to spend a bit of time
Most delicious cake and brownies I’ve had in St John’s. Looking forward to future visits and treats
For a pre made sandwich spot the food was excellent. Fish cakes are a must try. Only complaint is that it's a little bit pricey.
Come for buying treats and baked goods sure. But do not try to buy coffee here. I waited 30 mins for an Americano. If you see a crowd waiting by the coffee bar, just skip it.
Great food! Love the pulled pork turnovers! A must try.
Great atmosphere, good coffee. Try the fishcakes.
Rocket refused to give our wedding deposit back even though it would have been impossible for them to provide the services agreed upon at the time of booking. When we were forced to rebook our wedding plans at the Rocket Room due to Covid in 2020, we were initially told that our deposit would be held in trust until such time as the event could be rescheduled. When venues were again allowed to operate some months later, we were still unable to return to Canada from Australia due to travel restrictions in both countries. Then, near the end of 2020 we were informed by the Rocket ownership that they were moving from their old Water Street location and would, as a result, be losing the function room, and therefore unable to hold weddings in 2021. We were then told, after several emails back and forth with proprietor Dave Hopley, that we would receive no compensation of any kind from Rocket, despite the fact that the facilities we had paid for no longer existed. We got nothing at all for our money because of the supposed financial hardships that Covid had foisted upon Rocket Bakery; a company which, 18 months later, is now operating 3 locations. Covid has been devastating for many and outside anyone's control but I am absolutely shocked that they can get away with keeping our money, when they are still operating a successful business. It is truly shameful behaviour from a company that has the gall to associate itself with the traditional Newfoundland values of kindness and community. What is worse, I strongly suspect that we are not alone in our experience.
Awesome food, coffee and the tea is second to none. Excellent polite and friendly staff.
The food at this bakery was amazing!!! I had their sun dried tomato quiche and it was to-die-for. ଘ(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭* Literally, i died and went to heaven from the delicious mouth watering taste of that quiche. ଘ(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭* The space had great service and ambiance. Would go again 12/10.
The coffee is great. The food is good too, however the sandwiches are pre-made rather than made fresh upon order.
Great coffee ☕ and pastries on a main street. We revisited because it was so great on our first visit ????????
This was one of the most culturally rich experiences I have ever had. We stopped in for a coffee and some quiet time and didn't know that a Kitchen party was about to begin. Five men playing a bass guitar, a flute, an accordion a fiddle and a dulcimer. It was amazing. And the food and service was incredible
Fantastic spot! The staff are super friendly & efficient. Sandwiches and coffee a fabulous. The added sidewalk seating makes it an ideal spot for a snack and taking in the local scenery.
I couldn't choose what to get! Had the screech and pulled pork pie.. it was so good. Also got ginger cookies. The fish cakes were outstanding and the broccoli cheese soup was delicious. Place is clean staff are friendly and extra helpful. I could eat here every day!
You have to stop here! This bakery has the most incredible shortbread and soft ginger cookies. Their sandwiches also look incredible. Dont miss this gem!
I have been a patron of Rocket for over 5 years now, and have always been a big supporter of local businesses. However, recently I have noticed Rockets vibe changing and I wasn’t able to place what was different. Late last week it clicked when I was in for lunch. Nearly all the staff appear tired, lethargic and defeated these days, a far cry from the Rocket of a year and a bit ago. I was contemplating how an entire workforce gets this way when I noticed something. Down on the retail floor was one of the co-owners berating an employee’s. His conduct was totally unbecoming, unprofessional and outright embarrassing. It was almost like he went from talking to a child, to yelling and belittling in a blink of an eye. This is NOT conductive management behaviour and frankly I was disgusted. After seeing that I decided to reassess my shopping habits and explore some new locations in town, of which there are many. Hopefully Rocket can correct this staffs management approach before that mentality and behaviour so blatantly displayed manifests into a cancer throughout all the staff. Because what I saw was so out of line and unprofessional and I can only imagine what is occurring off the retail floor. Shame!
Beautiful venue for a wedding upstairs, just right for the group we had, drink options at bar could be more broad, more liquor types and more mix types, def will be way to hot in July and August, it was pretty warm in may, mini split or A.C. might be an idea someday
Little expensive but sooo worth it. Sandwiches are great, dying to taste more of their cakes and baked goods
Friendly, lively, energetic atmosphere, super friendly owner-going back in the morning for fishcakes and coffee! A must see and original Newfoundland experience with accordion playing and newfoundland cuisine.
Yummy fresh food and friendly service:) travelling from Cape Town South Africa and been to a couple of coffee shops along the way ☺️
Excellent place. They got chairs outside so I can bring my doggy and sit outside.
This is a pretty cool place. Coffee smells awesome and the snacks yummy
Great service and the breakfast sandwich is some good
Great coffee, good baked goods, cute decor, spacious, free wifi, and friendly staff. Highly recommended! ????????
Delicious food and drinks. Very busy during the summer months.
Very cute shop I had a matcha latte which was great
Food was amazing and well priced, servers were kind, atmosphere was amazing
Perfect place to spend some time drinking a nice cappuccino and croissant in a relaxing setting. Pastries a baked fresh daily and the coffee is top notch. Love the table area.
Greeted as soon as we entered...so delightful. Enjoyed a blueberry scone, cinnamon bun and the croissant breakfast sandwich. And the “Wicked Shortbread Chocolate Bites” are DELICIOUS for all those who love shortbread!!!
Great coffee & bread pudding! Looking forward to trying more!
Excellent coffee from phil & sebastian (Calgary, AB.), local roaster Bonavista coffee, and a few others. Also the Ginger cookies are superb! Can get quite busy, but worth waiting for!
I found the set up to be a little comfusing when I got in. Even if they had cute sign when you got in. The service, coffee and food was very good. Very busy coffee shop but loved the vibe it give.
Only had one gf dessert option and the cappuccino didn't have any foam.
Nice place for breakfast. Good coffee. Reasonable prices. Good to try.
Love the refreshing kale salad... the Greek yogurt and homemade granola... the frittata... the real dark rich cappuccino! The most wholesome breakfast in downtown St John's.
Delicious food! Breakfast, lunch and plenty of Sweets and savory items for in-between
My favorite coffee shop in town! Great coffee and baked goods, including super yummy breads and macarons. Great for any occasion!
Nice place, trendy place....Would get five stars if they had a better system for their lineups( confusing)to order and pay for stuff.
Cute resto with vintage decor. The staff is smiley and helpful. There's a good selection of pastries and sandwiches and warm food. I had the pulled pork turnover and it was ok. They used a lot of spices for their sauce so I wasn't taking it pretty well. Their coffee is supposed to be one of the best, but it can be a bit stronger.
Coffee & atmosphere very good. Unfortunately, they lost our breakfast order. Burrito was full and fresh, breakfast croissant was greasy, and the bacon fatty and tasted old. ???? Paying for atmosphere.
I do love Rockets. The service is always good and for the most part the food is always lovely (any food I dislike just has to do with personal preferences). Rockets can be pricey and sometimes it feels like it is too expensive for what you get-but that is a common trait shared by a lot of local businesses-since they make things onsite and use local ingredients. The food is always fresh and the staff always greets customers with smiles on their faces. However it can be loud/busy there and there is never a quiet time in the day to go. It has a great over-all atmosphere over-all and it is very warm abd homey. My personal favourite menu items are the pulled pork turnover (which is lovely) and the raspberry buttercream chocolate cake. I would go with a Mocha for my drink in the winter, and lemonade in the summer. Overall Rocket Bakery is a great Newfoundland style bakery and I definitely reccomend visiting especially if it is your first time visiting in the city.
Was an awesome place we really enjoy our meals. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful in point out some local points of intrest. Thank you
Visited this bakery for a cronut and I have to say that the cronut was dry, tasteless and was not worth the $5.00 I spent for one. Leads me to wonder how good the rest of their bakery items are like.
Popular. Pick your own meal or snack from the glass cases. Very tempting home-baked treats. I enjoyed my cheesecake tremendously.
Food is delicious and stuff are friendly.
Pricey but it's a nice, casual place to have a coffee and a snack.
Better than everything there for cofee and breakfest. The chef is a real master and that place rock !!
One of my favorite places to go for a hot beverage or lunch.
The most famous cafe shop in main street (water street) there are numerous stuffs and also provide seat and Wi-Fi.
Great lunches and coffee. Cool place. Popular.
Best fish cake I've ever had. And the bread pudding was amazing too!
Fantastic breakfast croissants! The London fog tea was delicious!
Just dropped in for coffee- decor like an old seaside cafe - atmosphere buzzing with local folk. Great place.
Nice place! Delicious cakes, tartes, pastries and cookies. Excellent coffees. Charming chaos, all ages, peaceful and nice.
Super over priced for mediocre food. I have eaten here a couple times in hope that my one bad experience would remain just that but each time has been a bigger let down than the last. The prices are absolutely insane $10 for a simple grilled cheese, very small discounts on day old sandwiches. I recently had a day old sandwich, a cinnamon bun and a lemonade which honestly was too sour to even drink and it cost well over $20. I love the atmosphere and I’m all about supporting local businesses but I just can’t support any business ripping off their customers like this.
What happened to the old location? When I was last in St. Johns, Rockets was in an amazing spot with great food, great drinks, lots of little trinkets and gifts, and a nice sitting area, etc. This new location is so much smaller with very limited options - not much of an experience anymore for a tourist. Why the downgrade???
They are refusing many people their deposit back for their wedding bookings. Even though the Rocket can no longer provide most of the services that were originally promised during the initial booking. My heart goes out to these poor couples who are having such difficulties while just trying to salvage their special days. It was out of everyone's control the restrictions that COVID-19 has brought on. That is no reason for a business to refuse to compromise in ANY way during these unforseen circumstances. I pride myself on supporting local, but I certainly won't be supporting a local business that has been treating local people like a dollar sign instead of human beings just trying to celebrate one of the most important days of their lives.
I'm a regular customer, so not much negatively to comment about. The regular staff members there now are very good. Maybe the cappuccino could be larger.
Delicious creamy espresso and the best blueberry tarts on earth!
Stopped for a quick brunch. Very nice decor, old fashioned charm, pleasant staff. Ham and Swiss sandwich was fresh and tasty. Would recommend to others for a visit. My first time, visiting from Hamilton, Ont.
Amazing Lattes. Some of the best I've ever tried. They used to get their beans from Phil and Sebastian. Their baked goods are great. Awesome breakfast burritos. Service is friendly. The only issue is the lack of street parking in the area.
Good food, live music
Great food Great coffee Great service Great vibe What else can you ask for?
Lots of sunlight. Good food and drinks. Nice sitting area. Colourful. For solo ppl, couples, groups of friends...it welcomes everyone. Love it there! It has a vibrant positive energy!
Best Chai Tea Latte and Cappuccino here :)
The most interesting venue for a bakery and deli that I have ever seen. Eclectic, interesting, historic, cosy like a huge woolen blanket.
Great food, as a large number of people hav already discovered
Great coffee, excellent croissants, and delicious fishcakes.
Had a really good lunch. The soups are wonderful.
Lovely bakery, nice place for lunch, good prices, busy atmosphere but enjoyable. Lots of different baked goods, not just the run of the mill usual baked goods. Good prices.
Tried your cowboy coolies..they were great..and purchased your chocolate almond fudge..haven't tried these yet..will be visiting Mt.Pearl location soon...looking forward tk your open at Bannister Sq.....
Had a lovely time experiencing a "kitchen party" with traditional Newfoundland music and yummy food!
Cute spot. Decent food. Super touristy but Slow as heck.
Good range of tasty food with smiley welcoming staff.
Can't recommend this place, at least not for lunch. I got their chicken burrito, which had obviously been made earlier in the day and then reheated in an oven. There were also premade sandwiches on display that looked like they had been there for a while. Their cakes looked nice so maybe there are some things that they do well.
Wonderful place with cornucopia of all things you look for to have a good time for a short coffee or tea break. Not up be missed
Love this place, their french toast is so yummy and really good coffee too
Amazing place for a first timer. Great and friendly staff. Will be returning for sure.
Delicious food and coffee. Different set up but overall nice atmosphere. Food seems overpriced for what you get.
Great sandwiches and burritos, and some of the best coffee in town.
Excellent coffee, great snacks, an excellent place to chat or host a small business meeting
Best fish cakes hands down best soup best steak dip sandwich best kale salad just amazing all around a must visit for tourists from all over
Nice place to sit and relax. Coffee was above average and the cheesecake was good, however the prices were a little high for what you get. Staff was very friendly and even remade a coffee for me after it sat too long when I didn't hear my order called.
Awesome baked goods
Def the most interesting sandwiches in St John's. Sausage roll, mac and cheese tart, and butter chicken turnovers are all first rate. Coffee and pastries are great too. My only complaint would be that the day old sandwiches are only 10% off.
Wonderful freshly cooked food. Especially recommend the pulled pork turnover. Delicious selection of baked treats, and some of the best coffee and espresso in the city. Friendly atmosphere and a casual welcoming atmosphere for a leisurely lunch or just grab a bite to go!
I was excited to try this place but I couldn't even get through the door. Had my daughter in the stroller and the staff just watched me struggle with the doors. Ended up just leaving. Very sad that they aren't supportive of the handicapped and kids
The bread pudding was out of this world amazing! Americano was perfect.10/10 would purchase again.
Had a bite and some great coffee at least 3 times during my weeklong visit to St Johns. Rocket Bakery is really worth a visit. Best cinnabuns I've ever had!
Great sandwiches. Friendly staff. A little pricy but worth a try for the atmosphere.
Our go-to coffee spot. Also lunch. Picnics. Bread. Pastries, sandwiches, sausage rolls, salad -- and terrific service. All this in a business with a social conscience and a community heart.
Once you get past the confusing separate order counter and serving counter, it's a fun and tasty place to eat a light lunch, snack or coffee. Lots of take-a-way foods available.
Great vegan choices and knowledgeable staff. Excellent atmosphere and ask for a fantastic price. We will be back for sure!
Amazing baked goods and excellent selection of beverages. Was recommended by the hotel I was staying at and glad I took their advice. Staff was friendly, quick and knowledgeable about their selections.
We rented the room upstairs for a 50th Birthday Party. Food and atmosphere were great!
Waited all week to get there, then they have no gluten free items. coffee good though.
A unique place with ambience oozing from the varied rooms. The staff are fantastic at helping you with food options. If I lived in St. John's, I would weigh a whole lot more because of this fine establishment.
I wish I could find them more stars… my chocolatine was disappointing though the pastry was decent. The lack of chocolate impacted my overall enjoyment. Their current scone (not pictured) was good though it was very dense and floury than …
Cute little bakery in the heart of downtown. Usually pretty packed and the seating outside is a little too out in the sidewalk but overall great place
